  • Saxophone Repairman Matt Stohrer of www.StohrerMusi... rambles a bit while showing off a relatively simple concept: on saxophone pad cups with a lot of concavity, you can put a bit of shellac in there prior to padwork as usual to make the job easier and avoid a void.

I believe those are made by Tenor Madness. I use them and they are great.

I love your chanel dude. I learn soooo much about sax repair. Very helpful being able to diagnose a faulty sax. Sometimes I can fix the problem myself, if not, at least I'm able to tell my tech what the problem is with ease, so they can save time looking for the problem (and saving my money too). Yesterday I just talked with my local tech and told him I was suspecting the bell to be a lil bit bent, because it had a ding on it and the low b and b flat were not sealing properly. He was very impressed, and solved it quickly.
Thanks so much for such a useful info.

There is a high-pitched whine in this video I didn't notice until after I uploaded it, sorry about that. Found out what it was- a new Android bug. I fixed it by turning off voice activation of google assistant on my phone (the device I use to make these videos) and my next video won't have the whine. Sorry about that!

Pads look so good and flat. Which brand?

Why don't you fill the key cup right to the edges? I ask because you are trying to flatten the domed key cup and by not going to the edges, you still have a bit of that dome around the edges.

Because the pad has shellac there already.

Do you ever use the old resources pads on older Conns. 20s and 30s?

They create an interesting dynamic on rolled tone holes. Not that I have done many that way....just a few.
