thank you for this beautiful lesson! I often wonder about such videos, why don't they explain how to get this specific sound. -which amplifier -which pedals are used -volume and tone setting -ect
As always, great info Eddie. Over the past few years that I have known you and the rest of the GMM instructors, my playing has done a bit of a circle. I only knew the G pattern pentatonic box before coming across you guys, but because I had been playing it for about 30 years I could get a lot out of it. Then I got carried away learning CAGED, the modes, etcetera. My playing then seemed mechanical, sounding pretty much just like going up and down parts of the scales. Melody and linguistics kind of went out the window, my playing sounded rather boring even to myself. Lately I have been trying to focus more on the very things that you demonstrated here, especially melody. The various "hot boxes" are great for keeping it simple and focusing more on what you can really get out of a couple of notes.
I wholeheartedly agree, tone comes from the fingers much more than the equipment.

Hear it in your head, then play what you're hearing. It's so simple, but it flies right over the heads of most players. I think it's like Jimmy buffet said in one of his songs "it was so simple, like the jitter bug, it plumb evaded me". Great lesson Eddie, I learn so much and am reminded so often of things I've forgotten about. Thanks for bringing my musicianship back.

Why would you do a guitar lesson about melody with your guitar not tuned to standard?
Because melodies aren’t exclusive to standard tuning
