While it's not uncommon for the youngest and weakest one to die, Osprey parents are actually pretty good at keeping all of their chicks alive and well feed.

Nature is truly amazing. Just as a human family the animals and birds too have their own families and they take care of each other just like us. Simply marvelous

I used to watch a live stream of Estonian Osprey and the pair of Ivo and Iiris in particular. So far all the packs of Ivo's offspring are grown healthily under his parenting including the times when he had 3 chicks at once. When Iiris came, the parenting process seems to carry on more smoothly bc Iiris is more independent and smart even she is much younger bc her color were still not completely adult. Most of the time she rather calls Ivo to come to take over the nest when she is hungry than to wait for him to bring her fish. She prefers to hunt her own food. Then when she sees the chicks are fighting, sometimes she would sit ON them to stop the fight.

At least the sisters didn't kill their younger sibling the way that eagle chicks do.

Good point. Some raptor parents and some chicks are better about this than other species.

Immediately after his first bite of fish, baby bro also spoke his first words: "Fish, which is my favorite dish. But widd-out no money, it's still a wish." 😂

Birds of prey near a source of fish can collect all the fish they want but most of the work is feeding the chicks the fish which has to be done very small bites at a time.

If the parents have a hard time feeding all 3, then sadly the mother will sacrifice the weakest to insure the others survive. It's called infanticide.
