That flux is pure bliss not even a scratch on the connector's plastic. Well done mate nice repair.
I love the fact that he says “we” did an amazing job , he really does care about teaching his viewers , amazing job btw 😊
even the scientist in the chat.😀
He's probably referring to big boss?
You had me going when you said you;re done after couple scratches on the board.
me too lol
Good job brother....the problem we have here in Africa is that we don't have proper tools ..but with your idea of selling some tools online you really helping us brother we love the good work you are doing ... though i haven't bought anything yet but soon i will .....
same here in Uruguay...
@@pablonunez194 agree with you and tools here in MVD are extremely expensive.
Depends where in Africa ,there's a few places to get the tools in JHB and PTA. Getting replacement IC,s that's a problem
Don't know how I got here but that was some amazing work! I subbed! Best thing I've seen on RUclips in a while. The brain surgeon of electronics!
This is a common problem with Asus notebook owners who don't know how this port works but still try to force it.
That is right, there's nothing wrong with the connector, just the lack of knowledge by the notebook's owners.
@@pinecedar180 I disagree, it is a lack of knowledge issue. Notebooks were not designed to be serviced by the everyday joe.
What was the connector for?

Hi NorthRidge, which brand of laptop among the major brands do you get least repair requests or complaints from?
Acer has the highest failure rate in my experience. Cheapest made!
Nice job!
Without the battery, you could do a continuity check between pins and motherboard/PCB.
Be Careful when replacing the battery on your Asus laptop. The battery connector on the motherboard has a metal cover that must be released before pulling up on the battery cable. The connector is weak. A Broken connectors with missing pads is a very common repair that we do especially on Asus laptops. I don't know if it's the user to Blame or the connector design. ( Thank You so Much for the Advice)
¿Do you mean the last aluminium part which he reassembled?
@@totikes Yes
You could apply to become a certified Asus repair shop, then you can order pretty much any parts you want.
I’m throwing away my automation career and get back in the field that really makes me happy when working. Can I have the same microscope from your site??
So cool...your jokes too!Love your videos!!
i just like listening to your voice and your wisdom
The steady hands of a surgeon! Maybe you missed your calling. Great skill.
As always a great lesson very thankful for these as I get older I want to learn more and more this is a gold mine of knowledge.
Good night my friend! I'm from Hyper Informática do Brazil, I've been looking for this resin a lot to separate the pads that come together when we clean with solder mesh in the reballing, so the balls don't come together and other services like this one from your video, what's the name of this resin? I have been following your works, they are fantastic, may God bless you in your work.
Your dexterity is amazing. Rock solid hands!
A professional work you got sir, i admire your skills.
do you mind if i may ask, what kind of soldering iron are you using Sir. am really in need
Very interesting...
I tore one of those connections off my own laptop a few months ago. :(
I levered it in what should have been the right way?
But it came away so easily...
When I finally disconnected the two halves later.
I was amazed, how it had stayed in place while I tore the whole thing away!
I am not generally bad at assembly etc.
But that connection was so flimsy.
open up the steel clip with your finger, align the battery connector flat on top of it and press down carefully, then close the steel clip.
I received my order yesterday , can't wait to use them when my shop officially open
Great videos Alex!!!!!!! I have just a quick question to ask you. I was wondering if you know what kind of batteries I need for replacement of the Mechanic VC04 short circuit finder. I posted my question in the forum 4 days ago and I haven't got any answers yet. I would really need the tester right now but it's not working at all.If you don't mind have a look at the forum and you'll see what exactly is my problem. Thank you very much. From Ontario, Canada
You might have better results from just opening the VC04 and looking at what's written on the battery itself.
@@Mueller3D Yeah!!!!You might be right!!!!!! Thanks for your answer anyway!!!!!!
This is satisfying. I can watch this for ever without being bored.
At one point early on in the video you said, "There's a million and one ways to skin a cat". I own an electronics repair shop in the east coast and I can't tell you how many times I say that to my customers. Usually I say it when I'm trying to fix their device and end up having to fix it a different way than I originally intended. I was amused hearing you say that in this video and completely relate 😂
I'm a big fan of your work and lessons. So much respect
A small remark is You look like Sheikh Othman Alkhamis
That one pad had me cracking up!! 🤣🤣🤣
A small hot spot welding device to make a solide joint to those small electrodes will be better than soldering them and adding green resine. Good luck.
The vids where you raise pads from the ashes are my absolute favorites. Beautiful, masterful work man. Btw, I was going to buy an Asus laptop before I started watching your vids - NOT!
Thanks for the video, I will like to have the link to the online store you just spoke of in the video. Also, how long does it takes to have the items sent to Nigeria?
Its too bad beeing a youtuber takes a lot of time, i would actualy watch a tv show about a business like this, greet customer process to delivery process. Not only the repair process is interesting, but the background process is also
in fact you can soldier battery wire directly as it is a non removable battery
EU Passes Regulations Forcing Manufacturers To Have Spare Parts Available For 7-10 Years After Product Purchase. The European Commission has enacted a regulation to push away the “throwaway” consumerism culture.
Nice to hear
Was that around the time of that ship port slow down, the Panama canal clogup, Asian auto car chip slow down?
I saw Stez Fix? use copper band for that pad job worked out pretty nice. Might want to check that out as well.
On this video I keep hearing clicking sounds out my left speaker. Is there a problem with your microphone?
When's Part 3 'Buying House - Inspection' coming out?
Soon my brother. working on it..
You are soldering just as good as Jonathan "sugarfoot" Moffett is playing the drums in Michael Jacksons Smooth Criminal.
Copper pad and this work very smooth.. Your tool is 💯 great
5:02 like Tony Stark with the fighter jets :D
Thanks for the video. Where buy this connector?
Some shipping companies will not allow consumers to mail lithium batteries for safety reasons.
Do you always use leaded solder? I moved to leadfree for some of my home projects some time ago. It's definitely a different thing to get used to.
I have a power supply here that have some burnt off tracks and I'm really not sure how to solder them back on. I used a thicker piece of wire, but it looks ugly and it'll be too dangerous to take a thinner piece of wire and bend it into the shape of the track. Is there some sort of tracing thing I can do similiar to what you did with the pads or not ? Thanks.
What a joke of a connector. Asus quite disappointing. You are a masterwork
1:30 I blew on the screen, you did too, I saw you do it. 😊
Awesome job! Happy Father's Day!
What’s your advice to someone just starting to get into this business? Where should I start to really start learning to troubleshoot electronics?
good to hear that they will sell just the connector. that's progress at least
Im Waiting for Part 3 of the House Inspection, M really Desperate to knw How its Going.
sir a question is running in my mind for a long time when you do soldering then at what temperature do you use the soldering station mostly if you have time please answer me thank you.🙏
he already said it in the past video, if i remember it's around 300 or maybe hotter if it has unleaded solder
6:04 so that green is like a cement that holds it in place even if temperature goes up ?
1:29 🤣I like your humor!
nice video, your videos inspired me to start my adventure with electronics :)
What tip is he using? I've always wondered. Crazy heat transfer for such a fine tip. Trying to find an equivalent tip for my hakko. My finer tips are worthless.
All of this is available on his website.

Looks so hard work. But you doing it well.
sent the link where i can download the software
Can you use a small amount of the solder mask to help hold the replacement connector in place?
4:58 my problem, always, when without using microscope. hahaha
I wouldn't accept for a repair an electronic device without its own battery as the "customer" could say when he/she will receive the(in this case laptop)device that is not working at all and there you are with an attempt of scam
This happened to me with an Asus Zenbook. I don't know what Asus was thinking when they introduced this connector.
With mobile devices there needs to be some sort of locking mechanism. A loose battery connector can lead to all sorts of problems that an ordinary user might believe is a much more serious problem than it is. While I don't like this solution due to the obvious pratfall of damaging the connector, the typical acetate tape solution isn't leagues better in my opinion, so I can at least see the logic behind the design.
معلم , ما شاء الله
piece of art!
Very good and clean job as always. I love your videos so much. Amazing. Greets
Does the connector get broken when the user does a battery swap, or are they just weak points period? Which laptops do you never get in to fix? :-)
It's on the tweezers Alex :)
Dear northridges , you are didn't reply to my question, is there your store gadget shipment to India or not ? I needed some items.
They shipped a bunch of stuff via UPS to me in the Philippines this week, so I doubt they would have a problem shipping to India.
No, they don't ship to India! He do specifically say that on a query from India on his forum!😢
Do you ship internationally? I'm in South Africa.
They shipped to me via UPS in the Philippines just this week, so you're probably good.
if you please what is the componant whitch have plus (+) what is his name if you please
E7 moto hard reset chip.
Have you found iron tips for a hako that are better than hako? Tips that last longer holding solder to the very tip.
Great job Alex!
asus have been designing power connector faults into all their laptops for 12 years.
why would anybody buy asus knowing it will fail.
(or why would anybody buy a dell pre-installed with Ants)?
Acer top the lot for refusals of service to customers.
MY Compukit UK101 & Sinclare spectrum & Comodore & Atari all still work well.
These connectors really are terribly easy to rip up and pull of the pads. Asus should change the design asap. They still use it on new laptops.
Can we use ink conductor if we don't have patch connector?
Ink connectors maybe good for signal, but I will not use ink traces for power. There is too much current involved.
Nice work bro. Do you think I can come work for you?
I would like know about if soldering paste or liquid of your type is used does it corrode after 2 years the applied areas,
Some of these are acid based, do you have same experience please tell us ? Thanks
Corrosion is why you always clean up the areas you work on with a 99% isopropyl alcohol, even if it's "no clean" flux, always clean the area before and after working on it.
your jokes Ok but somehow I still love you without them, Peace
I didn't know that laptops didn't start without a battery. I thought they could still start without a battery
yes they could
I received lenovo motherboard for repair and GPU power coils are overheating when touch it. But 0.8v is generating.what is the reason please advice.Thank you.
What is the opinion on gluing pads?
nice👍👍
Other way 'round ... When the going gets tough ... the tough get going ... 😎
Had a MacBook white screen and fixed it myself.
I would have been tempted to add superglue after soldering. Any opinions on this idea?
Superglue would crack and break apart from the high temperatures
It's fine if it's not conductive, but it will make any future work much more difficult.
@@EVPlays1 What temperature are we talking about in this case?
@@Jerupitus Well the point is to make future work less likely. I guess though I'd on;y do this for my own devices. Which is in fact what I do. No re-repairs so far. Is there as x fingers emoji?
Look man i trust your repairs I bought this laptop it’s a hp it doesn’t seem to take a charge like i plug in the charger nothing comes on no light completely dead anyway I could send it to you
They have a 2 month backlog he mentioned a few weeks ago (unless you pay for expedited service). So if you don't mind waiting just contact them using their mail-in form on their website. He's probably not going to see your comment and reply here, just go to their site and fill out the form for a quote.
Another good job, maybe they believe in your work so as not to send the battery?
Hye alex my question is can you use external DC power supply to subtitute the absent battery? Tq
generally yes. but some batteries have more pins than just + and -
in those cases, some devices may not work
also you should use correct voltage and better to have a current limit.
you can test and see if it will work or not
Hey guy's I want buy a gaming laptop with rtx 3060
What model do you suggest? I need something that not broke for no reason like this laptops Asus Rog or Lenovo legion 5 that have blue or black screen problem
What happened with soldering the second corner?
I love to fix laptops and other stuffs
good work bro Nice Information
Man your skill at soldering is a sight to behold. I've already learned so much from your videos but it still feels like I know nothing.
nice job , i want to see a gpu repair.
Great work as always
Hey NorthridgeFix your components are clustering the Nine Dimension over here! Please come over to collect your stuff!!! 😁🤣 PS love watching your videos in our Nine Dimension!
What solder do you use to finish your job? Unlead or 60/40?
I don't think Alex uses unleaded solder
@@josephshin9297 Most ppl use leaded solder cause of lower melting temp.
Only OEM production facilities use unleaded to comply with RoHS. No tech will touch the stuff.

i suggest using actual flux remover instead of alcohool for cleaning flux. flux is just too nasty for alcohool expecially those not no-clean, you are gonna have a shitty board with those
So what causes this? Is it a person trying to remove the battery too forcefully? Looking at that connector I would guess you have to pull the battery straight back from the connector to have the pins slide out. I assume it's also best to hold the connector down while doing this as well to help alleviate extra stress on it.
I'm not NF but I repair laptops for a living and that battery connector has a locking mechanism you have to slide back before disconnecting the battery cable, which is the metal piece he removed before soldering it down. My guess is that people are neglecting to disengage the locking mechanism before attempting to unplug the battery which ends up ripping the pads.
The reason why the connector was ripped off the board, is because most users do not know that in order to unlock the battery connector you need to slide that metal lock. It happens alot because alot of unexperienced users are trying DYI in the IT world.
Surface pro. Why don't you repair them?
Hi NorthRidge, I have a Gaming Asus Laptop which replaced the screen without taking off battery cable, after that the laptop doesn't turn on at all,not charging eaither !
if there is any solution for that issue ,I can ship it from iraq to your locaton.
Thank you !
