For those of you unfamiliar with mythology, let me break it down. Kraken: Norse monster; a giant octopus or squid said to drag ships underwater with its numerous tentacles Hydra: Greek monster; a creature with many heads on long necks, was killed by Heracles during his 12 labors Leviathan: Hebrew monster; a fish-like creature described in great detail in the Old Testament as nearly invincible Naga: Hindu monster; a specific class of divine being that took the form of a great snake Scylla and Charybdis: Greek monsters; occupied either side of the Strait of Messina; Scylla would always eat six crew members of each ship that passed by her side; Charybdis would create whirlpools strong enough to drag ships underwater if they veered too close Ahuizotl: Aztec monster; a dog-like hunter that would drag its prey underwater with its hand-tipped tail Medusa: Greek monster; a gorgon who could turn people who looked at her to stone Karkinos: Greek monster; a crab that was sent by Hera to distract Heracles while he was fighting the hydra Midgardsorm: Norse monster; a giant serpent that encircled the Earth with its body and gripped its own tail Cerberus: Greek monster; a three-headed dog charged with guarding the entrance to the Underworld Umi-Bozu: Japanese monster; a vaguely humanoid creature that would capsize the ships of any who tried to speak to it Vritra: Hindu monster; the personification of drought and a major adversary of Indra Kaliya: Hindu monster; a poisonous naga who lived in the Yamuna River and faced Krishna Dagon: Mesopotamian god of fertility, and then grain and fish and/or fishing Poseidon: Greek god of the sea and earthquakes Rahab: major sea demon in Medieval Jewish folklore
h0m3st4r Uh, just to be clear that Medusa in this game is a Giant Jellyfish right? I know which Medusa your talking about but I'm just giving you advice.
Pretty much summarises my early childhood. Going to "Fantasy World amusement park", rushing into the arcade with my little brother to play this game, and celebrating the end game with a platter of hot ketchup French fries. Ah those were the best days. Aint no days like the good ol days.
Same here I had a different story though this was my first arcade game when I was 4 I found it when I went on holiday to the Mediterranean islands and played it over and over with my father
Sadly it isn't going to happen. This game was designed as a coin muncher towards the sunset of the arcade era in the late 90s. Unless the remake is a completely different genre it won't get remade. Very few coin-op arcade games were made in the post 2000 era.
I remember seeing this game at my local Gatti-land. However I was frightened easily when I was little, so I got scared after my first run through... and even to this day I still get a little nervous. Same with the Jurrasic Park games.
Tomversal Well, if you faced phase 2 of the final boss in Deadstorm Pirates you are going to be really terrified! Same thing in Dark escape 4D if you get a bad ending.
OMG i have been looking this game for 10 years, when i was little with my brother and i went to bulgaria with our parents and this arcade game was near our hotel, we played the shit out of this game. Its been over 10 yeard since i last saw this gameplay. The memories....
It's a shame this game is only barely emulate-able. It definitely could have benefited from a console re-release; the atmosphere is unique for a rail shooter.
TimelordR unfortunately the video doesn't capture the white knuckle experience you have with the cabinet. because you sit inside a little chamber with cartoony turrets that rumble like a son of a gun, you get a real epic experience. anyways I would definitely like the see an HD version on this in VR
A part of my childhood, playing the big cabinet with 2x turrets but never made it past the Leviathan. :P I'll try to emulate this on the PC Thanks for uploading AND providing links. That said, it would be awesome if this gets a re-master, re-work for modern systems. The bosses would be straight up piss-in-pants material, like they were back then. (TRUE STORY, was actually afraid to go swimming after playing this as a kid)
Me and my dad would play this on the arcade for hours as a kid. Only reached Poseidon and barely died before beating him. Cool to see I was really close to beating the whole game. Only one boss away. Thanks for the upload!
I feel like Tartarus Depths should be the last level. Only because the pitch-black ocean floor makes the most logical sense as a climax level in a game based on sea monsters.
+Jaeger Newman What are the 2 seas Rahab missed? He seemed to cover all bases unless you count Antarctic. (Pacific)Kraken,(Indian)Leviathan,(Atlantic)Midgardsorm,(The Trenches)Charybdis,(Artic)Karkinos, (World's Biggest Lake)Ahuizotl,(Mediterranean)Rahab himself. What got me thinking is Karkino's case. If Karkinos is one of Rahab's 5 enforcers(Midgardsorm is doesn't count among his team because of his size), then why is it attacking whales instead of whalers? This is the perfect premise for whalers to get attacked.Secondly, how could Karkinos kill and eat whales in the first place? It's not big enough....
I finally found this game! My family would go to Wheels Inn in Chatham, Ontario every year and this was in their arcade. My dad and I would try every day to beat this game but he was simply too cheap to keep pumping it full of tokens.
I just finished this on Sega Model 3 (after finally getting it to work!) You can play a much better quality version if you use RomStation. The only real problem I have with this game is that you never have enough time to read the monster's crimes, and in the later stages the picture is overlapping with the text that makes it hard to read.
In my mind, this is the best shooter arcade game ever. I only played it five or six times. Last time I played, I was vacationing in South Carolina. I got as far as the Leviathan boss (my favorite boss). But now I can't find it anywhere. Why? Why? WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????????
It is always a great joy to embark on a difficult journey in beautiful, breath taking underwater locations, getting to encounter various creatures from all the world's mythologies...and wrap it all up by facing a god-like villain with an amazing backstory that resonates within the far reaches of your mind up to this day.
Basically every boss fight is the game saying oh my you got past every obstacle we throw at you but we want your quarters defeat me if you can but I'm going to make you spend more quarters
Hi there, can you send me the configuration.ini for this game? No matter what configuration I put I can't move the mouse up and down, just left right and shoot.
+Apinhaka IT WORKS! thank you so much, finally! The mouse only works when you're in the smallest res (496x384) whenever I increase resolution or change to fullscreen the mouse doesn't work. Any idea why?
You have to see this game in Supermodel now. Download the latest SVN build off the forums on Supermodel3.com or EmuCR. Thanks to a man named Ian, he has put a lot of effort into fixing missing textures and backgrounds for this game. It plays fine with a mouse :) Hard game, though. If you can 1CC this and The Lost World: Jurassic Park, you are an "arcade quartermaster".
I still have this game at this place called zacharys and it is still really fun. only made it to the leviathan but it is still really fun this game os an og, needs a console version.
I have downloaded the game and i can actually emulate it, but i can't move the crosshair, how have you done it? (Sorry for my bad english, i'm italian)
CocaColaLover99 You need to download the s.gui 0.10 for the emulator. Here´s a link:roadtoavonlea.net/smGUI.html When you´re done downloading, put the s.gui in the directory where you have the supermodel emulator and the roms. And then, just open the s.gui, select The Ocean Hunter, configure the emulation options to your liking, and play.
Apinhaka Now i can move both players crosshairs with mouse, but only on the X AXIS...can't you send me your Supermodel configuration file? I think it would be easier...
CocaColaLover99 I have sent you the config file through an email. If you use google chrome it will say that the file is a virus, but it's ok just ignore it.
Marco Dant Maybe the version of your emulator is old. Try downloading supermodel svn r272, the latest version of the emulator, which i have a link of in the description.
Apinhaka THANKS DUDE=) but with this version of supermodel the graphics decrease a few=( is there a method to increase graphic details and correct some black screen bugs?=)
Marco Dant There is a PC Frequency option in the s.gui, it is always set to 25, but you can change it. The PC Frequency is pretty much the graphics options for the emulator. However, I would only recommend 25 and 50, 25 if you want better performance and 50 if you want better graphics. The emulator seems to have some problems if you input any other number, atleast on my computer. Also, there is no way to fix the black screen bugs. This emulator is still a work-in-progress and emulation for this game is still not perfect as a result, so hopefully, someday, we will be able to play this game in an arcade-perfect state in our homes.
These aren't really the mythical sea creatures the title says they are. The Leviathan is really the Megalodon shark. Scylla is really a glow-in-the-dark squid, Charybdis is really a giant angler fish. Medusa is really a giant jellyfish and Poseidon... man that's the most fucked up one of all.
For those of you unfamiliar with mythology, let me break it down.
Kraken: Norse monster; a giant octopus or squid said to drag ships underwater with its numerous tentacles
Hydra: Greek monster; a creature with many heads on long necks, was killed by Heracles during his 12 labors
Leviathan: Hebrew monster; a fish-like creature described in great detail in the Old Testament as nearly invincible
Naga: Hindu monster; a specific class of divine being that took the form of a great snake
Scylla and Charybdis: Greek monsters; occupied either side of the Strait of Messina; Scylla would always eat six crew members of each ship that passed by her side; Charybdis would create whirlpools strong enough to drag ships underwater if they veered too close
Ahuizotl: Aztec monster; a dog-like hunter that would drag its prey underwater with its hand-tipped tail
Medusa: Greek monster; a gorgon who could turn people who looked at her to stone
Karkinos: Greek monster; a crab that was sent by Hera to distract Heracles while he was fighting the hydra
Midgardsorm: Norse monster; a giant serpent that encircled the Earth with its body and gripped its own tail
Cerberus: Greek monster; a three-headed dog charged with guarding the entrance to the Underworld
Umi-Bozu: Japanese monster; a vaguely humanoid creature that would capsize the ships of any who tried to speak to it
Vritra: Hindu monster; the personification of drought and a major adversary of Indra
Kaliya: Hindu monster; a poisonous naga who lived in the Yamuna River and faced Krishna
Dagon: Mesopotamian god of fertility, and then grain and fish and/or fishing
Poseidon: Greek god of the sea and earthquakes
Rahab: major sea demon in Medieval Jewish folklore
Obviously, some of these are nerfed compared to their mythological origins. :)
h0m3st4r Uh, just to be clear that Medusa in this game is a Giant Jellyfish right? I know which Medusa your talking about but I'm just giving you advice.
h0m3st4r
That was a good point that arcade doesn't make sense.
Wow some of these i didnt know thanks
Well made, I love mythology
Anyone else think that the narration and the music, especially the ending bit, were awesome?
You're not alone.
Scirvire The Shadow Blade I want a remastered version.
Yeah it was amazing.
Nope. Coming from someone who saw the ending back when this was a brand new game, the spine chills are still ever present.
Yep wish they made this a movie
Holy crap the Leviathan and Naga make the Predator roars and the gulper eels make the Alien hiss.
+Darby Bellisle YEah I was gonna say the same thing
In the ocean, no one can hear you scream.
Well, they CAN hear you, it's just that it's not very loud.
so they wont hear it
Darby Bellisle and your profile picture makes everybody cringe
Pretty much summarises my early childhood. Going to "Fantasy World amusement park", rushing into the arcade with my little brother to play this game, and celebrating the end game with a platter of hot ketchup French fries. Ah those were the best days. Aint no days like the good ol days.
Agreed, bro
+RoyalSapphireMods Cheers mate!
+Scirvire The Astral Walker :D
Same here I had a different story though this was my first arcade game when I was 4 I found it when I went on holiday to the Mediterranean islands and played it over and over with my father
Scirvire The Astral Walker I believe there are tutorials for emulating this game.
This was my favorite arcade game of all time, though I never saw past the North Sea and all those damn jellyfish.
I almost couldn't get past the part where you are stomped by the crab's legs.
I hated that level but got by

Yup

They're remaking House of The Dead so there's a chance
@@alecperdeau650 OMG SERIOUSLY
It took my brother and I many tries to complete this game back at our Gattitown arcade in the late 1990s. Such good memories!
I remember seeing this game at my local Gatti-land. However I was frightened easily when I was little, so I got scared after my first run through... and even to this day I still get a little nervous. Same with the Jurrasic Park games.
they can be nerveracking because the pace is very fast, things constantly jumping at you without a moments rest
Deadstorm Pirates and Dark Escape 4D are the scariest ones for me
Tomversal Is this has something to do with the final boss?
J Mac Hero
No, I just feel trapped while playing them and the games are very fast paced
Yes it is very atmospheric, especially when played in one of those big booths
OmegaManZX it’s still at a movie theater arcade near me
Not bad for a Sega rail shooter. Just imagine this being played with the Oculus Rift.
+TimelordR Yooo
TimelordR unfortunately the video doesn't capture the white knuckle experience you have with the cabinet. because you sit inside a little chamber with cartoony turrets that rumble like a son of a gun, you get a real epic experience. anyways I would definitely like the see an HD version on this in VR

I bear the game as a kid
But with free mode on :(
Ah man, I remember playing this game all the time at this one movie theater. Such nostalgia. It was mind blowing back in the day.
god this takes me back, life was so simple, and arcades were a good place to hang out.
If they were to make a remake of this, they are fking godly
I remember this game, is so fucking amazing and really hard to find an arcade machine of this game.
Me and my dad would play this on the arcade for hours as a kid. Only reached Poseidon and barely died before beating him. Cool to see I was really close to beating the whole game. Only one boss away. Thanks for the upload!
I love how the opening cutscene has this joyous music playing over tragic scenes of people getting slaughtered by sea monsters.
This game was my favorite to play its good to see it again
I still remember the felling of beating this game for the first time on the arcade with my dad... Amazing...
21 Years and still keep going.
Wow...I remember playing this as a child at Coney Island. Good times.
These sea monsters are Damn huge. I would certainly not brave dare go underwater.
I feel like Tartarus Depths should be the last level. Only because the pitch-black ocean floor makes the most logical sense as a climax level in a game based on sea monsters.
Finally, a player who actually can save the other divers and is somewhat competent
Childhood arcade game. Thanks for the video :D
A survivor at Tartarus Deep maybe Ernie cameo appearance
This is awesome like the detail and music in this
I played this game in an arcade on holiday when I was 4 and finally found it
These sea monsters were100% scarier than the dinosaurs as we thought.
I find it funny that this is referred to as a Seven Sea's Adventure when you only travel to 5 of the seven seas.

era el mejor juego de todos!
I was killed by that big angler fish when I played this the first time.
Miera Miujin The Angler fish was the Newbie killer. Every person I saw playing this game for the first time got killed by him.
On one credit, I normally made it just past him, but went down to either the piranhas on the next level or the jellyfish after that
@@hoshueyeplopper4465 fun fact charybdis (the anglar) is female

Who else watched this as a kid because they couldn’t find it at any arcade near them? Am i the only one?
Just beat it like a second ago and the ending story is very interesting almost like it was teasing a sequel.
I used to play this game with my father during summer holiday's at the seaside wow
Loved playing this game at Kennywood! Beat it twice and was so sad when they got rid of it when it broke down!
thwizardofroz shit u from Pittsburgh?
thwizardofroz I thought I would be the only one here who played this at Kennywood
If Bayonetta 3 doesn’t have an Ocean Hunter reference, we all riot.
Thanks for the nostalgia!
I see this midway machine in playland at the boardwalk arcade when I go to Ocean city Maryland.
The Hollywood Arcade in Ocean City, NJ also has it as well.
Lazbro Brony Hey, I was playing that in Ocean City in New Jersey as well!
Can someone help how to get the game properly well?? plz i want to play this because i was never finish this during my childhood such memories :)
