It's good to see a newer chassis like the gr86 used in these kinds of events. It's important for the future of this sport. (Even if they chucked an older engine in hehe)
Noriyaro streamed D1GP a couple of days ago, plenty of 86 and even some mk5 Supras there.
Most cars were running 2JZ tho, which seems to be japanese equivalent of "LS swap".

That green Subaru truck is called a baja. They were somewhat popular here in the USA
The Baja is also the successor to the Brat/Brumby, which was very popular in Australia!
I've never even seen them before, I thought the Ranchero and El Co were the only utes we had in the U.S

The Subaru was a Baja, and it was never sold with seats in the back. But it's an homage to the Subaru Brat which did have 2 seats mounted in the bed to get around the 2-seater import duties of the time.

iirc it was a trend in zokusha/shakotan or just plain kyusha scenes to have musical horns, and a classic choice was the Godfather theme (distorted by the doppler effect), which I believe we hear in this clip. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong!

the subaru camera car is neat. the owner stayed in indiana for a while for work and came out to some of the events and he's super cool. he's got other drift subarus and they're neat af.
The green subaru is a Baja, which I think are one of the ugliest cars, at least in stocks form.

Was an overwhelming event to attend this year. Made better that some of the best cars at Wekfest the day before were there being driven so hard the following day, especially the Silver Crown at 9:55. Wins "Best Sedan" then shreds it sideways at Doridore. Beautiful.

That's definitely the best scene, so much more entertaining to watch than all the modern overpowered massive angle machines in D1GP.

One thing about the Rotary GR86. Is that its actually kinda a nod to a "What-if" scenerio of what the GT86 and GR86 could have been. Since apparently in development of the GT86 many years ago Toyota wanted the engine to be set low in the car to give it a great balance and center of gravity. And the only motors they could achieve what they wanted were by either partnering with Mazda and using a 13B or some form of Rotary engine. Or Going with Subaru and running a Boxer 4-cylinder engine. In the end Subaru won out and we have the FA-motor in the GT86 and improved version in the GR86.
But the 13B GR86 is definitely a "What could have been" had Toyota gone with Mazda instead for the engine platform partnership. Always wondered if someone would ever do a 13B or some form of Rotary in a GT86/GR86 chassis. Since I figured given the cars light weight and having a relatively light motor/well balanced motor must/would be amazing to drive.

4:40 Subaru Baja four-door truck thing, back in 1978-1987 Subaru made the BRAT, two door truck with two seats, facing backwards to make it a car. Japanese trucks had to pay a big tariff because they were selling against American trucks.
As a Subaru Baja owner, words can't express my pure childlike excitement when I saw one in your video, lol. Words can, however, express my wife's anger when I yelled "NOOOOO" after seeing it on the tow truck and made her jump 😂

Alexis never seeing a Baja isn't surprising, as he pointed out they weren't in Australia or Japan, plus they haven't been in production since around 06-07. But he surely must have heard of or seen a subaru brat before, and the Baja is just its successor, so the concept of the car shouldn't be too surprising.
Are you telling me you've never seen a Subaru Baja before? Those things were pretty ubiquitous for awhile out here. Nowadays prices on them are stupid.
