I tried this and it did not go well at all. The jig saw blade is just too flexible to assure a straight cut. Mine wandered all over the place and ended up a mess. I then used the technique of screwing a board to a piece of plywood and then making a cut in the plywood with a circular saw to establish an edge., then aligning to the door and cutting the door. Worked perfectly. I scored the cut with a box cutter first, then taped the edge and had zero splinters.
Thanks for your input and for watching. Here is another option for cutting down the doors.ruclips.net/video/np__3H8Gvnc/видео.html
I bought one of those bifold unfinished wood hollow doors and it's 80 inches and need it to be 74. Thanks for the video so much. Really was just what I was searching for.
Glad to help
Very well done. Thank you. Need to cut down two sliding closet doors. This answered all my questions.
Thanks for watching.
Thanks a lot for this video, just what I needed!!!
Thank you. This was super helpful! Can I cut a hollow door in width also?? I have a door that needs to be made a bit shorter and less wide.
Just made trimming bathroom door job easier !..thank you
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching.
Got to do this job today and was wondering whether to use a circular or jig saw. Would prefer to use the jig and especially now I have one with thicker blades than many of the usual diy machines. I got fed up with wavy cuts and the thicker blades prevent this.
Many thanks for the video.
Thanks for the video.
You are welcome!
Good video. Thanks! One odd thing though, at 4:33 did a mouse run out of you pants leg?
That's weird it actually came from the wood he was standing on
I've just watched this at 0.25 playback speed and it sure does look like the mouse comes out of the trouser leg 😂
Hahaha. Actually it was under the wood.
Great video I was going to plane the door bottom this looks like a better idea
Glad I could help
Very informative, well played
Thank you for watching. This project went very easy and looks great
Really helpful - Thank you !
Glad it was helpful!
Well done Jim. Just remember to do a light sand where you made the cut around the door, to keep it from being snaggy on the carpet. Take care and good to see this channel growing.
Oh yes for sure. Thanks for watching
Thank you
You're welcome

Hahah if I put a doggie door in the this one it would be a big door. Thanks for watching

Thanks for watching.I'm happy to help.
zumba you did it..wow
I'm happy to help Thanks for watching.
Thank you, sir, for simplifying this for us non-carpenters dummies. Some carpenters make it so complicated and use terms that make no sense to us non-carpenters so thank you. I have to do this very job right now so I am looking around for the simplest way to do it. I would like to ask, what kind of jigsaw are you using? It looks very easy and lightweight. Which is exactly what I am looking to buy.
Check my Amazon store in the description below for the tools that I use. Glad it was helpful!
@@getitdonehomerepair Will do!! Thanks again.
I placed a guide and used a jigsaw on the first door. Disaster! The bottom came out wavy even with the guide. The second door I used a circular saw. Perfect!! No rough edge. Perfectly straight.
Thanks for watching.
Can I do it with a hand saw with a tape on it?
You could but it will be very very difficult to cut it straight. I would use either a circular saw or a jig saw.
Not like my hollow doors.....did not need to add wood inside after the cut. Trimmed 3/8 off, inside wood slab was over an inch. Also, would not even try a jig saw, circular using tape or cutting first with a knife will not chip either.
Thanks for watching.
Was that a mouse at 4:32?
Thanks for watching.
I saw that 2 and was like did it come from his pants lol
Thank you
You're welcome
