Sarah Vaughan, George Gaffney -- Piano Andy Simkins -- Bass Harold Jones -- Drums Recorded in the Michael Fowler Centre, Wellington, New Zealand, April 1988.
Sarah, like her contemporary, Carmen McRae, started as pianists who accompanied their vocals in small clubs. This is a fine example of that art. Both Sarah and Carmen did it to the end of their careers, and did so masterfully.
Sarah Vaughan, the Divine One; vocally extraordinary and musically resilient. The fact that she took time with her craft. Every note she played and sung was so effortlessly beautiful ❤️
@@davidvscalvim2836 Ella Fitzgerald was from Newport News, Virginia I believe, and yes, sadly, she suffered from Diabetes and lost both legs to the horrible disease. I believe below the knees, but not sure, but it was not good to have to go through and she passed not too long afterwards. Very sad.

Great sense of humor. This kind of talent doesn't come around very often
I love her
Now that was real talent
Can't believe she performed at this level considering within two years she was dead of lung cancer
Oh I didn't know that. I read she passed from complications from diabetes.
