Such a difficult song to sing yet he glides through every note beautifully ❤
What a truly melodic voice Calum Kennedy had....most impressive!
ruclips.net/video/tUY5m36ss0I/видео.html 👈 this is way better pal x
A true Scottish legend sadly missed. Such happy memories of him at the Tivoli in Aberdeen. I was lucky enough to be
in the audience the night the Tivoli closed.
This brings back memories of my dad singing this. Back in the days when we still had a traditional new year party. Sadly my dad passed away 30 years ago at 53 years old. Love this song.
My dads favourite song loved to hear him sing this beautiful song Sadly he passed away at the age of 96.and can find no better tribute but to have this played at his funeral
Such a beautiful song sung by the best singer. Touches the heartstrings again and again❤
Why on earth would anybody dislike this? Lovely words and a pleasing rendition.
This song for me is not about Scottish nationalism, it is about Romanticism. Lord Byron was an Englishman but he managed to touch the hearts of all humans with this masterpiece. With the voice of Calum, we have one of the greatest ballad masterpieces. Tks for posting this! Blessings
Definitely not an Englishman, in case this has not been pointed out since comment logged.
No voice can touch his ♥️
The most beautiful song in the scots repertoire. Sung by arguably our greatest singer. What a combination Calum and Lord Byron!
Alas there ate no ore Calums, where is our music going, may we treasure these memories and hope that some young people will keep the beautiful culture is Scottish and Gaelic song alive.
Wonderfull rendition. Thanks to the initiator AND all the great comments. Calum was a genius. Also saw him singing this great song, live at the Metropole. His version of Kishmuls Galley is another masterpiece. Go listen please
Calum, you were always a beautiful singer but, this realy takes some beating. May the Lord always shine his love on you.
My mother sang this song many times in the clubs and to my dad now he's just passed away they'll be singing together in heaven god bless rip❤
As beautiful and majestic as the first time I heard this song. No one can beat Calum singing this song. Still brings a tear to my eyes and a lump to my throat. Cuimhneachan phrìseil gu dearbh.
First time I've heard this version
totally magnificenf
always the best -gaelic singers singing in english / Scots. Fionna keeps Calums times with us now.
there's not a man will ever match this man singing this song..not ever
What a superb voice! There was never a voice like Calum Kennedy's - a unique and incredibly beautiful gift!
Thank you he is my papa. My mum misses him so much. My mum is his youngest daughter eilidh
He was a great singer. I loved him over 40 years ago
This makes the hairs on the back of my head stand up, my mum felt the same, she is sadly gone this 4yrs passed, we played this at her funeral, Callum Kennedy one of the greatest gaelic/Scottish singers, memories of Corpach village hall with my mum. Not happy times in many ways as our homelife with a drunken / violent husband & abusive father marred everything but music never fails to lift the spirit & give you reason to go on.
I actually got to meet the man, I was a child and I was sick but he was visiting Los Angeles and he was friends with my parents he sang to me, I was only 7 or 8 but I remember it so vividly kinda wish I could go back to those times.
This is one of the most difficult songs to sing, respect Calum
The great callam Kennedy, who has sadly died and is missed R.I.P
Wonderful nostalgic memories from a lost bygone era. Callum sings the song with the best passion ever.
I heard him sing this at the Kings Theatre in Glasgow, the best live performance I have heard without question
One of my all time favourites -awesome by Calum xxxx
This song has been sung by many great singers, but no one sings it like Callum does. By far the best rendering ever. I have had the pleasure of climbing the mountain many times.
the corries made a good job of it but Callum is 100pc the best
Excellent going on and on as I have got him saved on my RUclips channel
Too slow man
My Favourite Scottish singer.I knew the man.Nobody can replace him in the world
I always remember watching the calum kennedy show on TV on a Friday night in Black and white with my granny lol how much years have changed
This is the best rendition I have ever heard and I am likely to hear. What and incredible range Calum had, going into falsetto so smoothly and those fabulous ornaments/trills. Mercy, what a singer.
When I listen to this song memories of my granny come to me and I get goosebumps, she was a remarkable lady loved by many and sadly missed .This was her song at family gatherings when she was singing you never made a noise yes I have great memories of her and sadly still miss her.
William Grant Old tradition as my family all had their song to sing at gatherings too. Nice comment
I am sitting here with my Mum @ 100 years old also a Grant from Tomintoul - Her father sang this song. Always be special
Just perfect - Calum at his best. A poem by Lord Byron, written in 1807. Although his father, a rogue known as ‘Mad Jack’ Byron, was English, his mother, Catherine Gordon, was a Scot and an heiress and the inheritor of a substantial portion of the family fortune and Gight Castle in Aberdeenshire, as well as becoming the 13th Laird of Gight.
hard to believe hes been gone these past 13 years
Nobody can ever sing that song the way that The great Caulum did.
What a giant and such a great song of Byron!
Just love this song. Never ever been sang better. I could listen to this song and it’s words every day and never get fed up listening to Calum Kennedy. Never thought that I would say that 🥃. 👍
Just magical from the greatest voice ever
Marvellous. Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful 🎵 love brings back memories ❤️
Neil Munro (author of the The Vital Spark) had a character - Duffy - in 'Erchie, My Droll Friend' who was much given to singing 'Dark Lochnagar'
Calum's version was always the best. We always went to see him at the Kings Theatre in Glasgow and he HAD to sing this or there would have been a mutiny.
nah the corries
King off Scotland with his music
What a singer and a beautiful song
BEAUTIFUL CALUM xxxx
Brings back great memories
Has such a song ever been sang better? NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!
Dickie Bird I couldn't agree more! This is one of a dozen or so pieces of music which, on my 50 years on this planet, on hearing for the first time I was simply not able to believe how good it was! The man had one of the greatest voices of any era in any genre.
+Dickie Bird Never
violet aura v
Yes, by the corries
This is the best version ive ever heard. What a voice!
This was my father in law song just loved it when he sang it everyone was so still it was amazing ❤❤❤❤
Back in 1972 I was a vocalist with The Glengarry Pipe Band Concert Party, a troupe of Canadian entertainers that toured Scotland, offering Scottish music to the Scots! I had the honour and priviledge to meet Callum and to hear him perform Dark Lochnagar at the King's Theatre. A very pleasent man with an unbelievable voice.
It would appear that Lord Byron - wrote this with a singer like Callum in mind: Many have sung it, but none better. Having climbed Lochnagar - this rendering is magic.
I load my my in March and I can't stop playing calum kennedy I love Ian Anderson sing it what a voice
Simply beautiful.
Amazing, just simply Amazing.
Positively beautiful

Cha robh ann a leithid! = The Greatest!

I forgot how great a singer calum was, what a voice simply tremendous, just brilliant, what a talent love it, Jim Bergin. 👍👍👍🏴🏴🏴
beautiful...
This was also on "Scottish Working Man". My LP is long worn out and no longer available. The version on that LP was better, I think.
The king of the Highlands
Thee very best xx
The best !.
Calum is my papa he is my mums dad my mum is is youngest daughter eilidh. I never got to meet my papa but my mum said he was such a nice and funny person xx
Hi Asmr - I never got to meet Calum either, or hear him singing live; I only know him from his records. He is a musical hero of mine, and an inspiration to those who have come after in the Scottish and Gaelic traditions. You should be very proud of your papa! Thanks for your message / le dùrachdan, Cailean
Love it
One of the most beautiful things I've ever heard!
Away ye gay landscapes, ye garden of roses
In ye let the minions of luxury rove
Restore me the rocks where the snowflake reposes
If they still be sacred to freedom and love
Yet Caledonia how dear are thy mountains
And around thy white summits though elements may war
Though cataracts foam 'stead of sweet flowing fountains
I sigh for the valley of dark Lochnagar
Years have rolled on, Lochnagar, since I left you
And years will roll by ere I see you again
Though nature of verdure and flowers has bereft you
Yet still they are dearer than Albion's plains
England thy beauties are tame and domestic
To one who has roved o'er the mountains afar
Oh for the crags that are wild and majestic
The steep frowning glories of dark Lochnagar
Mark Rae 8u
Brilliant singer
Wow❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This should be the national anthem of Scotland.
Much superior to, and with much more historical relevance than the simplistic Flower of Scotland. What's more, it ranks alongside, if not beats Danny Boy for melody.
Alasdair Milne
💜💜💜🏴🥰
I like your song s
Would you ever consider posting the rest of the LP? I can't seem to find this version of the song anywhere else.
Wallace ! wie voice ! ............. Coorie! ...... Coorie ! ...... Barin! Maws here
I am Scottish too in my 60's so I am old enough to remember Calum. It's ridiculous to say he was one of our best singers. He absolutely ruins this song here. I agree with another commenter here, this is not what the song is meant to sound like, this is what Calum sounds like. I agree that the Corries version runs rings round this.
Let’s not have that as Scotland’s National Anthem, let’s have a wee rumty-tumty wee pub song instead.
whit a chanter
Its so sadly sung thou. Its like a man who has accepted his fate. He will never see them.
The corries take is more optimistic, its the hope of returning that I find more appealing.
That said. If I was on the other side of the world , with a wee dram in my hand I suppose I would lament like this.
Thank fuck for the corries.
The Corries sang it with much more umph

I
I am a Scottish dancer and been with alot of sco singer's but not you
Well, it was an unusual voice and he certainly
could put across a song with conviction. However, to suggest that this is the acme of perfection takes hyperbole to a new level. Apart from the outrageous liberties with time and stress it's a pretty good rendering, but 'best ever'? Hardly. Peter Mallan does it for me. Voice, musicality and understanding of the words put him a notch or three up the scale!
such comments. shows why you are in the minority
I still think Roy Williamson sang it better. They have pretty similar voices, but Roy's version seems to be more bittersweet.
All due respect to Calum, but Roy's arrangement is genial. I think the difference is that Calum had a trained operatic voice, while Roy's was more emotive and creative.
I'm sorry. I'm Scottish and grew up in the late 60's and 70's. To my ears Calum is murdering this beautiful song. The Corries version is the definitive version. The way Kennedy sings it, the song is all about him. I can hear no genuine emotion just showboating.
shame
nice tune but this rendition is overmuch
Calum Kennedy murdered this song and did not sing it to its true tempo and proper gaelic style. It was popular with folks who liked chocolate box advert music. The song, lyrics and tune are great, there are much better renditions
Boring 😴 🪴 😴 🪴 😴 🪴 😴
Very slow but with feeling.
