I saw him live about 5 years ago and he was apologizing for his singing because he had a cold but he still sounded just like his recordings. Beautiful voice.
There is a quality to Rufus’ voice in person that cannot be recorded, have heard him live many times and the only way I can describe it is that his voice resonates right through your body, like a a vibration. It’s a once in a lifetime voice. Hear him live if you ever get the chance and you’re welcome.
Saw him yesterday in Belgium...Rufus solo on piano for an hour and a half...you could hear a pin drop during every song he brought...Rufus is simply a great songwriter and performer!
This is a brilliant song. Chosen by George Michael for its meaning and this song does suit Michael's strong voice. During his Symphonica tour, Michael acknowledges Rufus as the writer and describes what the song means to him. It is an important song no matter who sings it (there are a number of covers) as it is a protest to the continued campaign to erode and limit the rights of people in the name of religion. An example of this is the Religious Liberty Task Force set up by the US Justice Department joined by the Alliance Defending Freedom, a conservative Christian advocacy group.Note that Rufus has done a cover of Careless Whisper and often appears on stage with the likes of Billy Joel and Sting besides his own great concerts.
Wow I didn't expect this fuss when I clicked on this video. It's not a competition people, both Rufus and George are brilliant, unique and brave artists, they have different voices but the sentiment is still there whichever sings it. Of course Rufus gets extra brownie points for writing such a powerful song but George is no slouch in that department either. Let's just enjoy this masterpiece and save the fighting for the playground. I love this song no matter what.
Hang on..Rufus Wainwright wrote this song, it's his song..that George Michael choose to make a version, fine but this is the composer and performer, understand what that means and show respect, thank you ..
I bought "Poses" at an indie music store shortly after its release. I'd never heard of him before but they were playing a few tracks from the album in the store that day as I walked in. I ran over to the counter and demanded to know who I was listening to because I wasn't leaving without purchasing the album! Not many artists have ever done that to me!
This is a great song. I never heard this before ....Did this always exist? Is this a Mandela effect? ......Anyways.... this equals George Michaels performance. I'd kiss them both on the lips. 💋
We really miss Billy Joel.... I don't think he is honest as this guy is. Well it's a (FREE) thinking world, THANK YOU, for your patience and consideration. best regards your name here____________________________ (whatever)?????
78bobbles - PERHAPS YOU ARE THE ONE WHO NEEDS TO CHECK OUT YOUR BLOODY EARS! FUCKING IDIOT OR YOU’RE JUST PROBABLY IGNORANT TWAT! GEORGE MICHAEL VERSION WAS SUPERB!!! FUCKED OFF
hoorah arguments about relative music quality. The two versions can't even be compared. Completely different interpretations. This is like the Jackson Brown-esque songwriter version. The George Michael one is the cheesed-up "everybody likes something when it has a symphony playing with it, right?" version. Both good in relative ways.
That backup singer ruined what would have been an amazing piece. Just ruined the parts she sang in, mic for her was way too loud. Gosh. It was still beautiful without that though.
jabah jabawoki Rufus's "version"?? Rufus WROTE this song! It's HIS song!!! GM's honeyed vocals are all well & good, but Rufus has a more authentic & genuinely soulful voice. And they're his lyrics! Only Rufus truly knows the full meaning of the lyrics - because it's his song, not his "version"!
It's just amazing how his voice sounds exactly the same way inside and outside the studio. That's a true singer.

This is the best interpretation of this song. It's 100% emotion.
Well, he did write it.

George Michael was strongly inspired by this precise interpretation 👂🏻 Backing singers are useless here 😉 What a Magnificent song ✨
Saw him yesterday in Belgium...Rufus solo on piano for an hour and a half...you could hear a pin drop during every song he brought...Rufus is simply a great songwriter and performer!
Really you saw him, and you didn't slap his ass down.
This is horrible. Thank God George Micheal did a awesome cover on this crap.

Rufus wrote it, idiot.
No one's an idiot here, his sister Martha does a version of this too. So wonderful his family's extraordinary talent.
BohemianWaxwing which is exactly what he said. Work on comprehension before commenting.

Rufus created a diamond...George sold it
Yes George Michael's version is superb. Sung with such emotion and feeling. I personally prefer it.
I loved it, he has an amazing voice
G Michael's version is also symphonic and preferred in my personal opinion. Freedom of choice that's all.
Wow, stunning!
Both the singers are good. No comperision at all. Have respect for Artist.
The distinction being, with regards to this song, one is a singer, and the other a singer-songwriter.
Восхитительно поет эту песню Джордж Майкл!
Только Джорж Майкл!
only George Michael!!!
Rest in peace; return in harmony; enjoy your trip Kate Spencer. I know.
Beautiful pipes
This is a great song. I never heard this before ....Did this always exist? Is this a Mandela effect? ......Anyways.... this equals George Michaels performance. I'd kiss them both on the lips. 💋

Me encanta esta canción!!! Y como la interpreta mucho, pero mas cantada por George Michael!

Absolutely brilliant, how anyone can think GM's version is better needs their ears Syringing!

Much respect for Rufus, but George's tops it by a mile!
Gm much better by far 👍
78bobbles - PERHAPS YOU ARE THE ONE WHO NEEDS TO CHECK OUT YOUR BLOODY EARS! FUCKING IDIOT OR YOU’RE JUST PROBABLY IGNORANT TWAT! GEORGE MICHAEL VERSION WAS SUPERB!!! FUCKED OFF
Gm is a master piece. Both are great no doubt
George Michael ne ha fatto una cover, ma preferisco quella di Rufus.Pop singer George Michael made a cover of this song, but i prefer this one!
+antonio amore

Georgies version smoother and just better all round.. soz Rufus
Yes watch it and see. A million times better and with emotion which this lacks sadly.

Georges Michael is the best for the sing !
aşığım ulan
George tries to sing it in its original key, it's too low for him
For this song, George Michael was killed by US intelligence agencies
I agree. George Michaels version is much much more heartfelt.
Props to Rufus for writing this wonderful song. But George Michael shows how it should be sung.
George Michael = STREETS AHEAD............................
Gee guys I'm hurt, so deeply hurt. Boo hoo hoo
A great tune but so prefer George Michael's version.

Nice compliment to the actual songwriter.
The DNC National Anthem
2 failures from the drummer...3:00 Aaauuuww!
As for me George Michael sing this song better. Don't punish me)
That backup singer ruined what would have been an amazing piece. Just ruined the parts she sang in, mic for her was way too loud. Gosh. It was still beautiful without that though.
George Michael sang Rufus song way better.
anyone heard george michael`s version?? it buries this..sorry rufus fans..youtube it..
So agree. Far beats RW's version any day of the week :-) This version is so very very dull :-(
george michael`s voice is amazing..he sounds even better in concert ..
jabah jabawoki Rufus's "version"?? Rufus WROTE this song! It's HIS song!!! GM's honeyed vocals are all well & good, but Rufus has a more authentic & genuinely soulful voice. And they're his lyrics! Only Rufus truly knows the full meaning of the lyrics - because it's his song, not his "version"!
How could it bury Rufus's "version". Rufus WROTE this song - only he can sing it with true feeling.
carl perkins WROTE blue suede shoes but he never sang it anywhere as good as Elvis Presley
Gm loads better 👍
Horrible absolutely horrible, Thank God for George Micheal doing something with this bull shit.
Serious??!
Background singers should be quiet… not good
Less drums please.
