Thanks to the legendary Godfather of Soul, we will never have any band of musicians that can compare to Fred Wesley, Maceo Parker and the world renowned JBs.
Though some have come close, these guys will always be the very epitome of excellence.
Yep legendary horn sections,,, there were a few great groups that had tight azz horn sections back in the day🎉 and that made the difference to me,, like icing on the Cake,,🎉 but I’m a horn player, so I’m prejudiced,, dam!!!!😮😮
@@rodtrues1 Interested what you think of Lettuce? Not the same straight up funk, but HEAVILY HEAVILY influenced by JB at a very deep level. Hope you dig it! This recording is sick as hell! Fred and Maceo together is just so money. Zoidis from Lettuce gets my goat in the same way Maceo does but its obviously different.. but very reminiscent.
Jerry Preston added some incredible new life to these Jazz and Funk classics, showing a skill, range and timing that only a true Funkmaster can
37:42 omg his saxophone skills are just…. I’m speechless I love Fred’s music so much
25:45 Maceo Parker annoucing they play 2% Jazz and 98% FUNKY STUFF... and the emotion he puts into saying "funky stuff" is exciting!
Ahhh thank you , you added to the goosebumps I got during that part! I wish I had funk friends locally
maaaaan I wish I was there and I wasn`t even born
Dear friend, bassist Jerry Preston showing some vintage chops as only he can!
he's amazing!!
Yes! Amazing! I love how he slaps the Bass. Great! Funk pure
Really!
Yes wicked bass slapping wow
Damned!!Sir Jerome Preston's killin; it!!He's badd ass Bassist!!!

i was allso there 21 years ago, time flies, what amazing show and music,
after this Bootsie Collins with super Bass
Oh my god bootsie collins too!? You’re spoiled ! :)
Maceo Parker is the Charlie Parker of funk!!!Darn right, I said it!!! HAH!!! GOOD GOD!!!!
just awesome, all the musicians are fantastic, especially the bass guitarist, the guy is just great I, as a musician too, bow before such a performance
2% jazz, 98% funky stuff. Such a shame, all YT children will never see/experience a performance like this.
It is there to inspire YT children into creating new bands and keeping the funky fire alive
Hahah half the audience is white, funk is part of what bridged the gap between black people and ignorant racist white people to realize hey, they’re just people who like to get funky and listen to James brown too. James Brown was actually instrumental in bridging that gap back then.
Bruno Speight guitarist is sharp and locked. love his style and no pedals.
1
i'd say Bruno is one of the very few guitar players who can do a rythm comp that sounds like a bass line but ON guitar !!!
I thought there can not bee anything that is too funky, but this is so funky that I surrender.
Have you listened to his album “Breaking Bread”? It’s the first vinyl I ordered for myself and still my favourite . In real life I only show people who are close to me because it’s very special to me, but I’ll help a funky friend online!
Jerome Preston (Bass) you are the best.. im so glad to be your friend,, thanks to you i Can play songs for littel Spencer 🙂
Hi Sonny. Do you know why he stopped playing with Maceo ?
Acompañándome este hombre a las 2:10 de la mañana mientras estudio para el examen de mañana, que mejor manera de hacerlo más ameno, sigo a lo mío, recen por mi si están a tiempo😂
34:47, man there is just no end to Fred Wesley’s talent. Adding scatting to the song like that for the jazz festival -purrfect and he’s so amazing at it too. He blows my mind. Holy shit that was an amazing breakdown.
I thought I'd seen it all. This is an exceptional performance by Maceo and his band.
OMG!!!! Dig what these legendary cats did with “Cold Sweat “ at the end of the concert. Mind blowing
Amazing. Saw these guys at Blackheath Halls, SE3 about the same time 95/96? Amazing gig. Manager had to drag them off the stage around midnight. Can't stop the funk!

Great Maceo Parker and The Band
My goodness at least the is ONE (almost full) Maceo live performance !!! Why are they so difficult to find with that band set up ??? Jamal Thomas almost at his very best ... 5 Years later he'd kill it all during full concert !!!
You found it! 🤘
The most fun you can possibly have; Around 45 minutes is just insane!
Amazing love it!

James Brown (Superfit !) begins, then Van Morrison, then Maceo Parker. In the same hall. Fantastic !

Это охренительно! Грув, подача, соляки, не фанк, а фанчище! Фред Уэсли удивил, разошёлся не по-детски, просто уничтожал и лишний квадрат даже сыграл😅 Ну басист Джерри Престон просто красава, вкусно играет
Agreed! I love when he starts scatting through the funk song. Such an amazing homage to the jazz festival to add scatting to the funk song like that
HOLY F***ING SMOKES!!!!
OMG!!!!
Mr Jerome Preston ! Ouch!
🎼🎵🎼🎵🎼💯🎧🎼💯
Pump Maceo,, play, u are a National Treasure also , to me,,,🎉
MANNNN he KILLS THE SAXOPHONE holy shit
I'm from New England but I know a Southern Bell when I hear them. Who is that announcer Lady that chimed in on the drummer riff
It‘s Natasha Maddison, Maceo‘s Manager since the early 90‘s, until the end. Unfortunately Maceo stopped touring. Well, with 80 years of age, well deserved to take rest
Has to be a strat
How the hell are they playing in those suits. warriors

27:35 Shake Everything You Got
A TDOS OS BLACK PANTHERS AGORA 22 HORAS 44 MINUTOS ALESSANDRO DE SOUZA
6:02
42:12 The organ player thought he was playin a modal jazz gig, forgot the funk at home.. lol
BabylLajf That's the "2% Jazz" I guess ;-)
where's pee wee??
I was thinking the same thing ?
Ongeëvenaard 🙌🏼🫶🏼💥
any body know who the players are?
Andrew Waltman Definitely Fred Wesley on trombone, Will Boulware on organ, it's Bruno Speight on guitar, I think it's Jerome Preston on bass.. wish I knew the drummer's name. He is absolutely in the pocket. No wasted beats. I guess Peewee Ellis called in sick on this night. I don't see him.
He starts to shout out the band at about 11:00, but I can't understand exactly who he's saying it is. I'm only about 15 minutes in, maybe I can recognize the others. He DOES say, "What about the band?? What about Incognito?" Maybe Incognito opened for them or something. I don't think anyone from that band is playing in this set.
Great players all around, though. I am always in awe of Fred Wesley's incredible sense of style in his playing.
wholewurld Melvin Parker is the drummer. It's Maceo's brother.
The other Drummer was, Jamal Thomas
what would music be today without the 60s/70s (Ray Charles, King Curtis, JBs with James Brown, Soul, Motown) - unbearable. for me today as a musical alternative (not vocally) "Osaka Monaurail" from Japan
Peter van Cooten. I agree. Wrong festival. Plus, soloing Hammond jazz figs./phrases, over soulful, blues-funk?! Nope.
He is much better on the funky organ he’s playing in the SF Jazz concert from 2015.
Will Boulware is great here, you're not enjoying by being such a purist
