did you know that song was written from the persective of a young girl...his mother. from what I remember this was his mothers story not exactly but inspired by.
Recently discovered Rufus Wainwright, and I think he is amazing!!! Can't understand people who have to make negative comments about his sexuality. He has an amazing talent, and, if you love music that's all that should matter!
Yes, he performs so well and loves It! He is just so relaxed .and projects himself with such a powerful voice. It really is such a complete captivating experience for us! I like him ... Its just easy to like him. A real musician, and writer of imagination, and even better to see and hear in a live performance .
I discovered Rufus almost 3 years ago and got to my first concert at Carnegie Hall June 16, 2016. Since then, I see his shows whenever and wherever I can - Canada, Netherlands, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Illinois, Missouri, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Colorado, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia. I’ll soon be catching 11 more performances in New York, Germany, Switzerland and South Dakota. I just love everything about him - his songs, his voice, his sense of humor, not to mention his beautiful face. Seeing Rufus perform is currently my major hobby and how I spend the majority of my discretionary income.
Gay or not rufus is adorable and gorgeous and adored by gay and straight men and women all over the world. He's an inspiration to the likes of Kaiser Chiefs, Keane and the Sisscor Sisters. On top of that he writes beautiful songs and manages to stay authentic and doesn't sell out. He's a iconic hero!
I only recently encountered this utterly brilliant musician when I watched a video in which he sang ‘Wrapped around your finger ‘ live at Sting’s birthday concert. This song is also gorgeously delivered. I find the lyrics deeply disturbing in May 2020 because they are so prescient. ‘Sword of Damocles ‘ is another haunting song.
smoothjazzweolfe, we are sharing same feelings and thoughts about this man. Im straight too, but cannot deny that he is exteremely attractive for a man, especially how he looks to you. Anyway the song he is singing is "going to a town", wonderful.
Ok...I am a straight man. I am telling you, besides being one of the most talented singers/songwriters/Pianist...He has got to be the most attractive man since Elvis Presley. I am serious; This is a beautiful man! My sister is a lesbian and I really am disapointed in some of the incredibly immature and homophobic statements. What is the name of the song he is singing on this video? It is fantastic!
Thank you, Hemanthemannequin, now it's clear to me. So to be born in the living room is an idiom for not to have secrets / to be watched by people / to go public?
Sorry, I'm not good enough at English to understant what Jonathan is saying just before Rufus answers "No, no, I was born in the living room," which is obviously funny, but I don't get the point. Can anybody help me pls? What is Jonathan saying and what does that "being born in the living room" mean?
protbox, he means that his being gay has never been a secret, he has been open about it since birth and has never been “in the closet.” Jonathan says “you have been out of the closet for many years, if indeed you were ever in.”
It's not really a common idiom at all, just an example of Rufus' quick wit. The more used idiom to describe a gay person becoming public is to 'come out of the closet'; the phrase 'to come clean' would be a more general term to describe someone or something becoming truthful, or to go public/tell their secrets :)
I've always wondered about the whole "gay voice" thing. I mean listen to this guy sing, and then to hear him talk. Not a gay/strait thing, not even an attack on the voice. Clearly not all homosexual men have it, I've just always wondered about it.
Are you serious? I'm sure he was just trying to show his appreciation for Rufus as an artist regardless of his sexuality...Sure, he may have chosen the wrong words, but there's really nothing to gain by flaming him because of it. Ease up...Throwing our guards up at the slightest sign of offense is but only one of the ways we as the gay community are isolating ourselves further from the general population...Tolerance goes both ways, yes? sorry, but that kind of reaction irritates me...
Sublime and under rated. He is one of this generation's top songwriters and singers. When he sings the Art Teacher it kills me every time.
did you know that song was written from the persective of a young girl...his mother. from what I remember this was his mothers story not exactly but inspired by.
"I have to win over one fan at a time"
Well, you didn't have to win over me, I won myself over the first note I ever heard you sing :)
right? me too. him and David Gray.
Recently discovered Rufus Wainwright, and I think he is amazing!!! Can't understand people who have to make negative comments about his sexuality.
He has an amazing talent, and, if you love music that's all that should matter!
I saw him at Place des Arts in Montreal. A Genius!!.
You won me over completely Rufus! Funny, good looking and so talented. Love your music and your humor. 😘

He's a iconic hero!
For six years I've been teased by my brother and sister about my love for this man; wouldn't want it any other way.
He's so fabulous.
Magnificent Talented Artist RUFUS! The best music composer and performer of this Century! I listen to him every moment

Tee hee, Rufus doesn't like that camera being in his face. Can't say I blame him. Gorgeous performance, as per.
Rufus is BOSS!
wow, he's cute.
@ hummer14455 thank you very much!
he is so talented
Yeah, he does. haha It's rather like hearing Hugh Laurie speak with his natural British accent after watching a House marathon or something. XD
This is the guy from tommy tricker and the stamp traveller
"I was born in the living room"

Your parents must be so proud of you.
What song is this? Really nice voice.
Thank you, Hemanthemannequin, now it's clear to me. So to be born in the living room is an idiom for not to have secrets / to be watched by people / to go public?
Woofus Wainwright!
You're welcome ;)
I totally agree with you.
And not just because I'm gay myself.
If I was only 20 years younger and if he was heterosexual..it would be our destiny to be together.I love you Rufus!
@Joleine28 It's live!
That is because you are Canadian. Montreal raised.
he is speaking like barbara "babwa" walters!
Woofus Wainwright!
=P
it's about the level of david bowie for me
What's the name of this song?
you might not agree with his lifestyle. why whats his lifestyle?
Great song. Great artist. (Nearly as good as his sister!)
Born in the living room.. as in, never in the closet.
Who else hate it when video starts with klaps?
You mean AND a great singer?
We're getting married... once it's legal of course
that is not even worth to give you a thumb down, is it
I wanna marry him too...(I'm a 60 year old woman)! haha
Well Brits usually appreciate gay artists straight but sometimes we can't help but contort.
Thank God he's gay? That's a bit counter productive...But I completely agree haha

"woofus wainwite" This guy's speech impediment is a little much.
Is he a baritone or a tenor?
Chris Serpicø Baritone
yes.
Chris Serpicø tenor with a great range
Why even mention the fact he is gay?
i think you've misunderstood me. i meant a waste of me fancying him because he's gay. i wanst being homophobic. i think he's amazing actually.
Love his voice but sounds a little too like Billy Joel for my liking here. However Rufus still rocks

How can he talk like that when he sings like that? o_o
Not trying to be mean, or anything...
oh hey, didn´t see it is you:)
why is that funny? what does he mean?
Are you serious? Falmboyantly.
yeah, i never knew he was gay because i'd only listened to his singing and his singing voice is so deep and kinda manly. maybe that's just me.
dont like him
