i like how jay was like 'meh i just had these parts laying around'
+Nathan McClymont It's a hard life having a Hardware store in your own home :(
Rax Pax I personally don't haha, it's took me 2 years to get where i am with my build. was referring to Jay.
+Nathan McClymont Only thing i have in large quantity is ram lots of it and some hard drives.
Bike Dude Not being a douche but..when he receives 4 Titan x and doesn't even advertise Nvidia with banners/links or video mentions, makes me wonder what side deal happened haha.
+Nathan McClymont I need a new Power Supply and i can't aford it at all :D Bu he has things what he never ever used, :D
No skunkworks is like the best yellow build on RUclips (if not the only) dont change it :(
+brian philips He's got to, pretty much. The fluid he used was having all kinds of problems
+Commander Steel if he uses green Nani fluid he'll have the same problems, which I think he might do
+arpwithm3rk Or, he could just use the upcoming Mayhems Pastel Extreme fluids. Where instead of a dye being used to color white nano particles, ala the current Pastel fluids...The new Pastel Extreme uses colored nano particles to achieve its color. So in theory, it cannot change colors.
+brian philips skunkworks must stay yellow, no question about it.
+Michael Weiss But the videos won't go away. The build was complete as a build. There is nothing wrong with change and I would much rather jay experiment with different styles than stay stuck with Skunkworks, a build which there is virtually nothing to improve upon.
Build name: Slimer (Ghostbusters)
I agree. Awesome name.
Nice idea!
That is not bad or maybe Ecto / Ectoplasm.
+Shawn P More like Chloroplasm
I'm nvidia (jealous in Spanish) or so my girl tells me who is Spanish
why not a AMD build for us AMD fans? To much intel.
+Alex Rubio rip
***** yeah and will see Intel and nvidia pay off reviewers and benchmarks close source software.
+Alex Rubio Or you could just go watch my AMD videos and stop being a dope head.
+JayzTwoCents not being a dope head here. Just stating the truth if its close source we don't know what nasty hidden code there is. why don't you try running some benchmarks with real world examples. Also you make more intel and nvidia then AMD just saying.
+JayzTwoCents I do enjoy the AMD videos you make. I would just like a it to be a bit more AMD stuff.
I have A Intel/nvidia build so im no fanboy here.
Am I the only one that still prefers the Noctua NH-D14/15 as opposed to AIO liquid coolers?
+Nathaniel Graham Nope. I opted for NH-D15 when I did my Skylake build a month ago. Great cooling with low noise.
+Nathaniel Graham well, my Hyper 212 EVO performs just as good as my H100 with a 4.4Ghz 3570K, so i don't see a need for AIO's if that little cooler can do that...
+TheNerdyCanadian I don't personally believe that, but hey if it works keep using it.
Meteor Shower idle temps for my H100 were 37C, 212 EVO is 39C, load temps H100 65-70C (depending on GPU load), 212 EVO is 68-73C...you were saying?
TheNerdyCanadian Yea, and every other test comparing cpu coolers is invalid cause it clearly shows better performance from Noctua and AIO coolers.
The handpicked ones are just so reviewers make their product look better than what it actually is
omg its derpy goku
+Morgan Evans like tv
+Morgan Evans
Except for when the review samples and retail samples actually match up fairly well.
***** Yes, but they shouldn't have extra just because it's a review model I want and I'm sure plenty of people want to not see what the review model looks like just to go and buy the item and it be completely different from the tests
+Morgan Evans ... yet Jay somehow got 4.9GHz out of his retail sample.
Seems like all your builds with EVGA mobos are plagued with issues and most folk also have a lot of problems with them.
Ignore me if I'm wrong, but you don't happen to be from the LTT forum? (Recognise that avatar)
Guilty as charged
+dimitriid Yea, that's why I won't buy EVGA motherboards. Inferior feature sets at a premium price point.
+dimitriid
Gigabyte is my go to for most everything.
I did settle for EVGA for my PSU.
+Dillan Turner really? i've had nothing but problems with Gigabyte...motherboard can't hold a stable OC (can do it fine on my ASUS board), PCI-E locking clip broke the 3rd time i used it, heatsinks get stupidly hot, and no utilities (and what they do have look like they were made when XP was new). i also have a 7970 and 280X by them and they get insanely loud (fans running at 85% at 50C, 100% at 60C+) ended up running a custom fan curve and got the same temps...and both cards had to go in because some power delivery stuff burnt out from not being cooled properly, if i had the money i would be dumping the cards and going with another brand, but i don't, so i'm stuck with them for now
Smooth Jazz instead of Crappy techno? Sweet!
5:45 lmao that music, "smooooooooooth jammmmmmmms"
+Jerry Neutron Pleasant to see you here!
Im 14 and just got into building a pc and I watch a ton of tech channels but your channel and you yourself always go so deep into the information and thats what I like the most. Keep up the awesome vids!
"Bad ass motherboard with NO COMPROMISES." Wasn't that the quote from the add at the beginning of your video's recently?
Miles McDonnell It was the classified not the ftw
+Pu55y Destroyer ahhh my mistake.
+Miles McDonnell classified still doesn't have USB 2.0 lol
Damn, Jay is looking good these days
But really though he lost weight and looks healthier with more energy
+Stephen Bergman Indeed, I subscribed just a couple of weeks ago and when i went back and looked up the old vids I was shocked. Damn good job on his part.
+Stephen Bergman anti-depressants ... everything must look good to you
A bit of bromance hey?
One thing I didn't like here was the NZXT S340 Razer edition case... Don't get me wrong I love NZXT but I hate Razer
Razer would be good if everything wasn't overpriced
AgarBola Indeed it would
+AgarBola Also if it didn't break constantly.
+Dncmaster Hate is a strong word, Did Razer burn your village to the ground?
***** Rip ;__;
I just finished building my skylake b\6700k build. I watched your review on the MCI GTX 980TI Lighting and went with it. It does a great job and I really appreciate your passion for tech. For a first time build it went really well.
3:10 "simply because... *ding* I have two" I don't know why that pause cracked me up lol...
I just built my first pc a couple of weeks ago 6700k 16gb 980ti. I Look at my ps4 like its a VCR now.
That's an expensive pc for your first one
and I'm here saving for a grand for my first build :/
Nice!!
+Invective I have seen people water cool for the first build so his specs are not that surprising.
+Larry Hamilton True that.. My first build is going to have 6700k but an R9 390 and some other higher end parts I guess you could say idk. Though it could be looked at as stupidly expensive since I am 16
Can't wait for green skunkworks! Not enough green builds since the gigabyte sniper boards went out of production
+Boogie Robot oh right I haven't looked into sky lake much yet, didn't realise they were a thing, thanks
+Boogie Robot oh right I haven't looked into sky lake much yet, didn't realise they were a thing, thanks
+Boogie Robot I think that's the 1 Jay should use for this and kick the EVGA to the curb.
+Louisa Mitchella There are too many green builds... Almost more then red ones...
***** Most people atleast green setup, Razer shit etc. There is alot of green builds, but there may be more red, but there are way less red setups...
Alright HardwareCanucks, enough cinemati - oh wait it's you Jay. Erm. Okay...
btw, the s340 is such a good case. it has its limitations, but in return you get such an awesomely sleek case with no excess bells and whistles, yet there's everything in there for pretty much every imaginable gaming oriented rig while being such a small package.
"The Green Lanternator" saying: please keep me alive Jay!
Dat porn music tho
+Zolbat I was thinking of one of the softcore Skinemax films lol!
+Zolbat I turned down my speakers at that part, someone might get the wrong idea...
Pelser Lategan Headphones FTW!!
+Zolbat You beat me to it! lol
+Gelo Roldan Ya'll Know the song names perhaps?
thumbz up 4 free used amd athlon
What's the point of the core i7 for skylake this year? A 5820k is not much more expensive now because x99 boards and drr4 is MUCH cheaper.
+Alex Clanton X99 is slower, but a bit of overclocking could solve that.
+Alex Clanton I think it is probably meant to exist with the broadwell-e chips which will bring the low level extreme chip back up to a fixed $400 and much more expensive motherboards thus a much higher lowest price on the cheapest motherboard. My guess is that it will probably become:
I7 6700k ($350) + $100 average motherboard = $450
i7 6820k ($400) + 250 lowest costing compatible motherboard for $650.
+Alex Clanton The cost on the skylake setup will allow you to put more money in your GPU choice. For people with no budget limitations, X99 is the best. There are good skylake boards that up to hundreds less than most X99 mobos. You also need to fill four RAM slots, so you have to buy 16GB when you can get away with 8 on Skylake.
+nimrodery Thats not true, you don't have to run 4 sticks of ram for x99. For anyone reading my comment, check your manual for proper ram placement. Please don't spread false info
Alex Clanton So how do you achieve quad channel with two sticks of RAM? Quad meaning "four" and all?
Edit: oh I see. You can use less memory by LOWERING MEMORY BANDWIDTH. Yeah, sounds like a great option for hobbling your PC. Yet another advantage for Skylake when you're on a budget.
I never stop checking out new builds even though I've already got a badass build myself.
Asus new ROG mobo line looks very nice. There is a little bit of red which is just right so the mobo doesn't look flashy.Plus you can easily paint the red parts to fit your build.
lmao @ 5:44 music change....smooooooooooth aaaaaaaand sexyyyyyyyyyyyy awwwwwww ya baby......
Jay sounded like a spoiled kid xD. "I have two of them so why not"
Filly Skippy n
"I love EVGA motherboards because every time I do a video with them I get to explain the basic things they fail at. Remember when another one couldn't manage my PSU? I do. I still drive that boat on the weekends."
Skylake isn't worth adopting in the UK due to supply shortages, retailers are hiking their prices up. A 6600k cost me £220, some retailers are selling the 6700k for £360 which is damn right insane.
I am the same way about the colors on motherboards. That is why I am ordering the Z170 classified
5:45 Porno soundtrack & slow panning camera mode activated!
Don't like the EVGA motherboard? We all know the solution to this problem.
Get the power drill.
He was kind enough to include the footage in the video, we don't have to keep reminding him about it.
+il2xbox "You know what this motherboard needs.... MORE POWER!" *Tim Taylor grunt*
Finally a skylake
I'm opposite, I love colorful builds. I was budgeted so mine is all black, but would love some orange or green.
I have learnt so much more about watercooling because of Jay. I am looking to get a thermaltake case, with the Asus X99 Deluxe 2 motherboard
What song is that @ 5:42?
Why cant intel send me one ;(
Cuz ur a nobody
Mostly because you don't have a following big enough to warrant a computer part.
11:15 what happened there? lol
I was waiting for Barry White to start singing to us at 5:44. Also, I miss hearing the old transition tune! Such a difference between then and now in your videos.
Good work. Would love to see a red and black build, I know they are really common but they are really amazing.
Call it the emerald dream :) Lets see how many WoW players u got ;)
why do they call it skylake
Skylake is the codename used by Intel for a processor micro-architecture which was launched in August 2015 as the successor to the Broad-well micro-architecture. Skylake is a micro-architecture redesign using the same 14 nm manufacturing process technology as its predecessor Broad-well, serving as a "tock" in Intel's "tick-tock" manufacturing and design model.
Knottybigdog thanks
Knottybigdog
Hm?
Will you be my Dad?
YEASS!! i love the color green, and i've always wanted to know what skunk-works would look like if it had a green theme
Cant wait for more skylake vids. I just finished my 6700k upgrade last week. Got rid of the old fx8350 (OC'd to 4.7ghz) which I was having terrible performance with when it came to gaming, the frame times were terrible in a LOT of games with my GTX 980.
I chose 6700k over 4790k because DDR4. Plus all i needed to swap was motherboard, ram, and cpu. Its my first intel build and I love it. MUCH better performance with the 980. Haven't overclocked yet though. I'm using a Noctua nhd14 so I cant go too crazy although the temps are crazy low at full load so I probably have a decent amount of headroom.
I went from an FX-9590 with Asus Crosshair V Formula Z and 16GB-2400MHz DDR3 Team Group RAM to my new rig which is a 5820K + Asus X99EWS + 16GB-3000MHz DDR4 Team Group RAM. Was it worth it?. Did I get the blistering performance improvements that intel fanboys are always harping on about?.
NO!.
I saw very little performance improvement in games and as far as my video production and rendering projects go, I only saw a performance 'improvement' of between 7secs-12secs (depending on size of file) over my trusty FX-9590. So pretty disappointed.
Glad I didn't go for the 6700K as that would have been rip-off city. Fortunately, I managed to buy my 5820K from ebay (new!) for £230 (rrp is £300+) and my new X99EWS for £230 (rrp is £400) and my new DDR4 RAM for £99 (normal rrp is £130). So I managed to make a big saving. I sold off my AM3+ rig for £320.
At least the X99 rig will have good resale value when Zen comes out. I cannot wait for Zen.
nice
nice
I don't think anyone would recommend the x99 platform for gaming, the 4790k is more than enough.
I think it's more about bragging rights than anything haha
+Hugo Olloman - yeah you are right about bragging rights!. TBH, the only reason I got it is because they were available at heavily discounted prices. I made a saving of £300.
+Nynjaw - thanks man.
Jay, PLEASE do a video talking about the difference between different kinds of SSDs.
8:18 I like how the LED from the case flows into the wallpaper of the monitor
Your m.2 should work fine with SLI on a skylake build since the chip set has 20 lanes from the chip set itself
i have that case and a front mounted rad... it works great and temps are better
Thanks for talking about the issues and how you resolve them. For beginners like me.
I've been watching Jay's videos for a few years now. You would think Jay would of saw these "issues" ahead of time.
Anyway, it's a nice looking build.
Since Jay will tearing apart this build anyway, here's my suggestion for a name: Triple FFF (Flourescent Failure FTW).
Good luck with your next build, Jay.
I like the red Msi colors but black is looking perfect
I run a build pretty similar to this. I intiailly was really worried about the airflow to my cards (2x Gtx 970s Reference Cooler) , but after gaming the temps do not even get that high. With a modest overclock the top card gets only to about 75C.
I sympathize with your USB plight. I was forced to add a USB addition block, wich caused my gigabyte 990 Board not to post. Now I also have 2 sticks of 8 gig for a total of 16 gig that i can't use because gigabyte board will not post over 1333 Mgz with all 4 slots filled. They never put that on Box!! On and on. This is why we depend on your honest and thorough info on products. Gawd knows manufacturers won't warn us until you already blow your money.
Now I've got that smooth jazz song stuck in my head. I must be over tired.
It's funny you put this build together in the S340... I just saw it for the first time today lol. I was putting together a build sheet for a friend, browsed the NZXT website, and put one of them on in his list. After seeing this video, I definitely think it will work out nicely for him. Might consider getting one myself... but I still want to snag a 760T before they're all gone. That case is just about perfect for my plans lol.
Nice build, Jay. Definitely looks good. Very interested in seeing some performance benchmarks, and OC results.
Looking forward to your insights on the new skylake processors. My systems are all Haswell based and performs well. I did a recent upgrade from LGA 1155. Microcenter wanted to offer me a Skylake mobo bundle after I told them my situation and I told them no because it would mean I have to purchase new memory and I don't know too much about their new processor lineup at the time, vs just purchasing a LGA 1150 combo that I wanted and spent a good about of time researching. I didn't ask for them to lecture me about Skylake because I was in a hurry that day. Ended up getting what I want and in about 3 hours of building and testing, My flagship runs great. Time and money well spent.
The Green Blob! Awesome clean build there Jay.
I ran onto the same USB problem with my mobo, only 1 2.0 header which is taken up by my h100i, something I didn't take into consideration when I was shopping for my z170. Love your videos J, keep it real!
Lol I always end up commenting on old yt videos
I wanted to build my own PC but after looking at parts prices I decided to just buy a pre-built. I settled on a 6700k PC from CyberpowerPC off newegg for $1,257. Returned it. (the R9 380 card failed after less than 1 day) It came with a cheap PC mate montherboard, 8 GB basic patriot ram, 500w PSU, 1 TB HD, Asus DVDRW and a AMD R9 380 graphics card.
I then bought a used PC in like new condition off ebay for $699 shipped that came with a MSI gaming 5 motherboard, i7 4790k, 750w thermaltake gold PSU, 8 GB Gskill ripjaw ram, nvidia 660GTX card, Asus DVDRW all in a decent Corsair 230T case... I then replaced the 660GTX with a used AMD R9 390 that I scored from ebay for $285 shipped, added a 240 GB SSD, 8 additional GB of matching ripjaw ram, Intel branded all-in-one water cooler plus some more and better case fans- all for around an additional $550. I was planning to do similar upgrades to the CyberpowerPC anyway so I saved a ton of money. I couldn't be happier with the 4790k! Since then I added a NZXT 5.25" card reader bay and just ordered a NZXT Sentry 3 fan controller for my case fans. I'll probably post up a video of my PC after I get the fan controller.... I love this thing!
For some reason I wasn't happy with the performance of the CyberpowerPC with the i7 6700k. When watching videos in 4K on youtube I was still getting a few stutters here and there. Maybe because of the R9 380? I don't know but there were other hick-ups such as while surfing online and I do have 100mb internet speed. With my i7 4790K/R9 390 everything is flawless and except for GTA5 I can play all my games such as Battlefield 4 maxed out in 4K. And finallyyyyy..... I can play FSX maxed out 8 years and 3 PC's later! LOL
To incorporate the theme of green and Skylake, I'm going with project "Raw Empyrean Reservoir". 3 synonyms for green, sky and lake. Or just "Empyrean Reservoir". My random input for the day. Off to sleep I go now.
My 6700k overclocked to 4.9 right out of the box just my changing multiplier with an Asus Viii Hero. Got lucky. sweet spot is 4.4-4.5 for temps for quiet fan profile.
A time when Jayz didn't have everything under the sun... Interesting.
Jay, you know, that the Swiftech H240X, also has a green insert for the pump/ heatsink unit...
If there was a twin fan mount at the top I would have pit the rear fan as intake to help cool the CPU area, I do like the idea of have the radiator at the front since clean cool air is best for a radiator in my opinion.
"Poison Blade" that is why is green....nice build
I still have his old processor in 2020 these are my parts
GTX 1660 Super
i7 6700k
16 GIGS of RAM 2197 mhz
Primary Storage-SSD 960 EVO 250 GB
Secondary Storage- SSD 850 EVO 250 GB
Omg I love green. Can't wait to see how the new skunkworks looks!
Thank you Jay for letting us know not to choose EVGA,problems, problems, problems.
Those compromises on the EVGA boards have driven me back to Asus. I had a EVGA X79 Dark looked awsome, but the ufie and the compromises with the setup of the controlers was too much.
Can you do the video about bending tubes that you said you will do ?
Green Goblin, The Ork, Yoda, poisen ivy. idk lol
Love that you did another build, and can't wait to see the updates on skunkworks aswell!
I loved that graphics card, just upgraded to a Zotac 1080 Amp
wow Jay I haven't seen any of your videos for about 3 months because of school...just realized you look so great! good job with your fitness! :)
Best build music I've heard so far!!!
Looking good Jay. Please do some more headphone reviews when you have the time, I really enjoyed those
People complain about front mounted radiators? Really? I have a Fractal Design Define R4 and my radiator works just fine mounted to the front of the case. In fact, I prefer it there because then I can cover the top vents and keep the rig silent.
I love the S340. I think it will be my next case. But not with a EVGA board. The other brands are much better I think.
You should try the corsair d450 I think it's a great mid tower with surprising good amount of space for water cooling and cable management
i like how honestly you admitted ur faulty decision with the mobo which i had a feeling when u first justified the reason for your pick simply because of the color but thumbs up. ur mistakes taught me a lot about mobos and how to pick mine. thnaks
Jay, i don't know for sure, but i imagine what those people are saying is not that the world will melt with an Intake mounted Radiator - but rather that if you have the option, Exhaust mounted would be preferable.
your shirt is a nice shade of blue. Your chair is one of nicest of the 50 shades of gray.
Jay, thanks for not covering up that the EVGA board is rubbish :-) I think Gigabyte boards with Alpine Ridge controller make much more sense. I went more budget, with a cheaper Gigabyte board without USB3.1 and i5-6600k in a white NXZT s340 and I totally love it! The s340 is really nice for the money, like the compact size, great presentation while elegant, feels more premium than the price suggests.
Lierally just finished a Kaveri build with this same case...I feel better about myself now.
yes. finally. someone finally said it. im sick of these light shows. you are awesome bro. thanks for saying that
My OCD was hoping you would use the kraken X61 for this build because it can perfectly fit in the front and you can change its LEDs.
So can the h115i and most if not all aio coolers have rgb lights
Should've went with the MSI Z170 SLI PLUS. Wouldn't have had to compromise on anything
Asus New Sabertooth Z170 or Hero VIII would have been better IMO no USB 2.0 is very short sighted. I've been looking at a X99 build, like the look of EVGA but don't like the lack of features , no USB 3.1 for example.
for a full black build, you could chose the SLI PLUS model from MSI wich is full black!!
(Sorry if my english is a bit wrong... I'm a young french student and I don't speak English fluentlly... :( )
call the build "Duke Salamander" keep making great videos Jay
I can't lie.. I love a flashy looking mobo.. not all of us are running SLI and you see a lot of that board in the window. I really dig the Asus White setups that are out for skylake.. currently building one for a buddy now and it's a sexy board. I don't know how you can stand the motor noise of those fans that come with that cooler lol.. drove me nuts. I frequent Silent PC Review often because I cannot stand PC noise.
Totally agree with you Jay on the USB2.0 headers.. I was about to buy the FTW edition and when i found out about the USB2.0 headers i thought about the Classified K but the price on that motherboard i could not justify just for the usb headers.. so i went with Hero VIII
Flashy mobo I like, want one that has lights like Tron cycle races going on while I play.
@JayzTwoCents Absolutely love the switch to "adult themed music" for the B-Roll!!!
The build made me fall in love.. and it's not even water cooled
My body has been waiting for this build...
My i7 6700k is still rocking. :)

Love your content so much man im making a second go round on these amazing older vids in nov 2021
almost died when he said "i have two of them, so why not." I WISH I HAD TWO 970S!
