I think it’s really nice that Stuart is interacting with you more in your videos.
Yes I love it too!! And seeing the kids.❤❤
Agreed. I think they’ve really elevated their quality of videos over time but it actually feels even more natural. I’m impressed. It seems like there’s so much thought and intention that goes into their content.
Absolutely. They've come along way. It's so nice to see the children growing and helping out more...but the sweet banter back and forth with Stuart is heart warming. Always knew he was there supporting Shaye but it's super nice to have the interaction.
Definitly ❤
Yes. Yes. Yes!!!!!
Watching this, as its -40 celsius outside 😂👌 good ol Canadian weather here, never let yah down haha🇨🇦
It’s -22 here tonight in Canada. Cows are bedded down in fresh straw and fed high quality hay in the barn. It’s so important to take this weather seriously. Luckily we aren’t calving yet. 💕 loved this video.
These videos will be so comforting to your children some day. ❤
Homemade Soup is so earthy and comforting, as well as the warm fire in ur stove. I remember as a child hanging around our woodstove keeping warm in the winter time.
Sorry to hear about your hen Phyllis, I'm sure she lived a good life on your lovely farm ♥
We bottomed out at -9F in Tennessee about an hour southeast from Nashville. About 6 inches of snow. Now, a few days later, we are going to be seeing single digits again for two nights. I think it has been a few decades, at least, since we have seen low temps like this. BTW sheep and cows should be very, very cold hardy. Just give them a place to get out of the wind if they want. If you see frozen preceptation on their backs, that actually means their coat is keeping them warm.
Thank you for loving your animals. You earn jewels in your crown every time you show kindness to those who need it, especially helpless animals.
It's lovely to hear your husband playing the guitar so beautifully while you talk and cook wonderfully. I love it!
I’m still learning to embrace winter like I did as a child.
Videos like this help. ❤
Me too.
@@theelliotthomestead Thank you for your videos. ❤️
The animals all looked so adorable grouped together in the barn.
I made pot roast tonight and decided after seeing your pantry soup that I will use the left over meat and make a beef pantry soup tomorrow.
Love your videos. Stay warm.
Learning to except what each season has to offer is so important.
I enjoyed this video as I swelter in high humidity in my country. It is so interesting to hear your comments on the benefits of the snow for your water supply and what you need in coming seasons. I appreciate your channel so much, for my down time watching and learning new things. God Bless.
Cold here in northeast kY and about 5 to 6 inches of snow on the ground. Unfortunately it will go back to the 40s and 50s in a few days. I love winter and especially snow so I’m grateful for our first snow storm. It looks so beautiful outside where you are and your soup looks delicious.
We are dealing with the same thing in central Kentucky. Lots of snow and sub zero temps. It is so quiet and beautiful.
Nothing like a good hot soup when it’s cold outside. I’m also very glad for my home canned tomatoes. It’s a good feeling to fill the jars but also a good feeling to empty them!!
There's so much warmth in your videos....even though it's negative 12 dgrees there. That soup looks so good and very easy. I'll have to try it. Stay warm Elliott family and farm animals. 💗
At our homestead, winter is great, but you're right, it takes FOREVER to care for livestock in this weather. And we have a high water table here too, so its really tough. Thanks for sharing and making it less lonely in this lifestyle ❤
You should try it 😊at -45. That's what we have had for the last 2 weeks.
OMG where do you live?
I bet it's REFRESHING!
Same here 😂👌
Goodness gracious!! We are getting into the teens at night here in Fair Play, South Carolina - but I cannot imagine -12 🥶
This is the first year I’m attempting winter gardening here in SC and we are having lows in the teens. I have frost cloth and incandescent Christmas lights around my broccoli plants hoping they can pull through this cold snap! Before gardening, I never paid attention to the lows and now I check everyday haha! Stay warm!
Soup looks awesome, and the biscuits. Yummy. Stay warm. In central NC it’s presently 30 with expected low of 6 tonight…. Burrr….. bring on Spring 🌼🪻🌷🌸
"And we only lost one chicken....and she was very old." 😂 Love you guys!
We miss seeing your house tour and decorating videos. Would love to see it if you could. Thank you!
Hair sheep can absolutely stay out in the snow and cold. The wind is a bigger factor
It’s been frigid here in West Central Indiana too. My niece lives in Wenatchee & sent pictures of all the snow. Stay safe! 😊
I'd love to see a video where you record your groceries over the course of maybe a month, so that we can get a collective view on how you manage the food you need to buy in. Orders from Thrive and Azure, and any costco/grocery store pick ups. It would be so helpful!
Our house was built in 1898 and we are in Oklahoma. It’s been cold here too, but not -12. It felt like that with the wind chill though! We too only lost one old chicken thankfully. Anyway you are totally correct about old houses not being able to get warm. We had multiple heaters going and yet the house couldn’t get over 56° no matter what we did!
The extremes push us and our animals. I am so touched you worked so hard to help your animals. Here, the extreme i heat and it has its perils. I lost a broody hen by losing track of her needs and nearly another broody to the same situation - thankfully I have got Claudia back - with hydration. Bless you and your family x
YEPP, I always say rearrange your mind and to learn to appreciate those aspects of life others find to be negative. Life is a blessing, not always easy, but a true beautiful blessing that’s always a journey, let’s enjoy it!!💛🫶🏼✨
We also had wind in blizzard conditions at our cabin in cascades. Sky river lodge is our beautiful log cabin. I wish I had your garden but get to live vicariously through your channel. Thank you for showing us your lifestyle.
This soup looks delicious I have all the thing’s needed. Going to make this up tomorrow we have a high of 10 here in Illinois tomorrow 😊
Those buns looked delicious too. Have you shared the recipe? I just made soup with ingredients from the market and pantry. I was thinking about how nice small buns would go with it. And here’s your video. 😊
LOVE LOVE your attitude. Winters are to value spring and summer. Also in winter I learn to cook and do a lot of handmade like sewing etc. So by summer time I have some beautiful things to wear and new skills owned. If you wear fur coats and wool (not cold synthetic clothes/shoes) you come through winters easily like we do in Russia 🥰
How do you prevent moths from eating the wool?
Clean the house! Also keep wool in plastic bags. Not a problem really.
Wow that’s so cold .
My husband had the flu while I winterized our 10 acres by myself. Our cold snap has passed. Yesterday my husband said, What are we doing today??? NOTHING. I'M GOING TO SIT!!!!
It's been pretty darn cold here in Georgia!!
Yes, everybody is getting some type of this arctic blast here in the south in Texas. We are not used to these cold temps my little 1925 home it’s on pure beam so we fill the draft from underneath. We have central air heat and I even have extra plug-in heaters, it is freezing I had some area rugs that I bought because my house is wood floors and that helped a little bit. You know every little bit helps. We had busted pipes for two days. They were insulating everything but they probably just couldn’t handle this cold weather, but my husband repaired them already as soon as the weather gets better because now after the freeze, we’re going to get a whole week of rain, once that’s done I’m gonna have my plumber reroute my plumbing and re-insulate everything. Hopefully that’ll work. This is the second time that we froze like this and our pipes busted. I did put some water in Big 55 gallons to the side and that helped believe me, but we are not made for this cold blast, I told my husband will probably have to do some upgrades or different things to the house this spring for next year because I feel that these little arctic blast is that we are getting is going to be the norm
That cold snap was crazy! Never have I ever seen it get down to single digits around here. Lowest was 1 degree in little old Granite Falls, WA. Farm chores were a bit difficult 😅
That soup looks delicious!
Simply stunning!! Mesmerizing to watch this beautiful video of a hard working, close knit family!! Thank you for sharing the beauty!!!!
lovely! ❣
Hi there, Yes it sure is cold , and I feel for all the farming families trying to keep the animals safely warm. I live in Montreal ,we are covered in snow and it is quite cold here , but that is Canadian life. I read that your cold snap is going to wrap up by next week with overly warm weather for this time of year. I wish Mother nature would find her balance and bless us all with the perfect weather for all plants ,trees , animals and people...
We do deal with it regularly. And we are set up for it. What you are dealing with is a huge challenge. Good job.
It also got to -12 for our coldest night here in the Mountains of Cashmere. I fed my chickens rolled oats, rice, corn and ham with crushed red peppers to keep them warm. They made it through just fine. The stray cat had a nice cat bed with lots of fleece in there to keep him warm on the bench of our covered porch, he did great. I have no idea where he came from but he is here and we are taking care of him. Just love the way the mountains with the trees covered with snow, so beautiful. Thank you for the videos you post that gives us ideas and how to cook healthy for our family.
Growing the Appropriate amount of hair on my ears 😂😂😂 too stinking funny. But -12 man that is cold. Your southern roots would even be cold down here bc even in deep southern MS we got down into the low teens and low 20s for several nights. It’s just cold!! God bless!! 🙏🏼
Mmmm! I think I'll make this tonight! I made the oven baked meat and potatoes from the last video. It was delicious! The lamb makes all the difference. My little doxie was SO excited while it cooked. Lamb is her favorite!😆 Thank you, Shay!❤
Hi Stu and Shaye, sorry to hear that you lost Philis😢.
At least she was warm and loved💕.
Now that you know wich pipes are vulnerable, heat tapes work fabulous. You can leave them on year round , then plug in when needed👍.
I made Chicken Stock as well and put together a beautiful Shrimp Pho perfect for these simgle digit days😋.
Thanks your soup looked inviting!.
JO JO IN VT 💞
What a beautiful, peaceful, and relaxing glimpse into your life, Mrs. Elliott. A joy as always! Much love.
Hope it warms up for you soon. I am in MA and it’s 9 tonight. The cold is tiring. Lots to do to stay warm and keep the homestead going. It’s postcard beautiful tho.
Beautiful appreciation for the season ❤
I cannot tell you how much I love the conversations between you & Stuart.
Funny we just got to -25 tonight in Ontario. 🙂🇨🇦
Another lovely video from you both. That soup looked delicious 😋 So cosy for this time of year.
You're so right about how important the cold weather is for killing off pests and disease on plants etc and also it is essential for stratification. Several plants need freezing cold temperatures to help wake up their seeds when the weather warms such as Echinacea and Aquilegia. Garlic and parsnips need a good hard frost to develop their flavour properly. We've hit another mildish period but undoubtedly it will turn cold again here in Shropshire, UK.
Really enjoyed this ‘newish’ style of video. It had the right amount of everything you do so well. Lovely to see the scenes at the end. Thank you, as always.
Just read this poem and thought of you @theelliotthomestead : The shortest month by Adeline Whitney, 1824-1906 " Will winter never be over? Will the dark days never go? Must the buttercup and clover Be always hid under the snow? Ah, lend me your little ear, love! Hark! 'tis a beautiful thing; The weariest month of the year, love, Is short and nearest to spring."
How is it determined the reservoir is frozen enough to walk on? As a younger person, the river froze solid enough to skate on. We don’t have enough days of freezing temps any longer.
I'm so sorry Phyllis died, but happy you are able to keep your other animals warm and safe. I didn't realize that you were dependent on snow for your water? Thank you for educating me on this. You all keep safe and warm. God bless 🙌 🙏 ❤️
This weather brings out gorgeous sunrises even here in Indiana. Love your videos and recipes.
Thanks for the video. I loved it! You are definitely an inspiration!
I loved this video. Thank you for sharing.
Wow, that's an intense desciption of reality in your -text- post. I knew the homestead life is an intensely different reality..however I did not then realize ..how intense
Beautiful video. Thanks for the reminder that winter has wonderful benefits. It brings us water, kills bad bugs like fleas, ticks, and garden and orchard pests. I just need to learn to survive the long cold months that seem to be spent sick and tired.
That looks delicious!
Rest in Peace Phyllis. I’m glad she was able to pass indoors, warm, with the family that loved her.
I love your positive perspective
Yes -40 for almost 4 consecutive days here in Alberta, Canada... so cold
Great work guys, such precious faces there in your barn 🐑🐓🐂 🎁❤️😊 love this one! God bless you all 😇🙏
We have been cold, but not nearly that cold, on the Atlantic Coast of Canada this week. I was just thinking today as I was walking down the road, how lovely the Spring Peepers are going to sound :)
That looks like the best meal ever❤So warm and cozy😊
Keep in mind Canada deals in Celsius regarding the -40, either ways its brutal
6degrees here in Georgia the past week.
Ive never put artichoke in a soup before, now i absolutely have to try it! My children do tnknow but im sure they hate this plan already 😂
are you kidding? how can you think "still" when the wind is howling at 40 -50 mph? it feels like chaos to me. But your farm is very pretty in the snow. Sounds like your have a critical new barn issue if you can not keep it dry.
What did you add to the meat, broth, and tomato? It looked great!
Shaye,
Did I miss something? I went to buy one of your photography prints and all the prints I used to see are no longer on your site. When I clicked on the archive link, there were no prints.
Is the still life of the green vase with the oranges no longer available?
PHYLLIS ❤️🩹
i live in a 135 yr old house and there have been nights that I have worn a stocking cap to bed. In some areas its fashionable....😏
I'm really surprised at the amount of boxing with Thrive foods. That's a lot of trees, and you pay for that packaging, too.
Geo engineering or climate engineering is creating these crazy weather patterns. So many animals affected by it.
I think you put to many things in the soup :D looks like a stew :D
Our house was built in 1898 and we are in Oklahoma. It’s been cold here too, but not -12. It felt like that with the wind chill though! We too only lost one old chicken thankfully.
