With a homestead and three children including a 2yo I have to be very diligent about how I do things so the house doesn’t fall apart daily. I have five things that I do daily that help so much to maintain a certain level of organization. 1- Make beds 2- Wash all dishes 3- Clean all counters and stovetop 4- Wash one load of laundry 5- Run the robot vacuum.
When I turned 40 I could no longer marathon clean my entire home in 1 day 🫡 I just had to be honest with myself that slow and steady wins the race and one small step each day was enough . Life is much more simple now and that is a good thing ❤ 🏡
The children participating in the chores daily will help them be well-rounded strong work ethic adults. I am glad you and Stuart worked hard to create a home based business. Your family life is inspiring.
In my Italian family i grew up eating dandelion salad. Sweet onion, salt and pepper, olive oil and red wine vinegar made it just perfect. But you can add tomato or anything more you desire. We Italians love our bitter greens. Everything you make is amazing! Great family!
Shaye, everything about this is BEAUTIFUL! Your family, your flowers, your bedroom (oh, my goodness!!!), your clean and comforting kitchen. I am so inspired to go DO something! Thank you for rekindling the homemaker flame in me!!! ❤
When I see your home, your daily routines and family life...farm, animals and gardens, good cooking...I think of the song by Crosby, Stills and Nash..."Our House". It's one of my favorite songs and it depicts a very warm, comfortable and real home. It describes the home of my dreams. Your life is the perfect visual.
The Elliott Homestead DEFF has always been one of FAV homesteading families!! Yall tackle alot I would have to say your a family that most can relate to, you don’t put on something that your not, EVER, and that makes you relatable to the general audience trust me!! Take care out there, and another great video like always 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Beautiful dandelion greens! When I was a child my Nonna (yes, she was from Italy) would come over and we would go out for a walk down one side and then back up the other side of our country road. She would use a long knife and circle the greens to cut them out of the ground. She would shake the soil off and toss them in the giant bowl I was holding. After the bowl was full we’d head home with a beautiful harvest. Using the garden hose to wash them off was easy to do outdoors. Next she would dress the greens with vinegar, olive oil, salt and pepper. Glorious salad!🥬 Thank you for your video ❤
Your 'day in the life' video brings back a lot of memories of my own upbringing on a farm. Sadly our beloved farmhouse is no longer standing but I have many (mostly) good memories of those days with all our animals, thousands of cats (some exaggeration maybe) and good old fashion farm food. I miss those days. I would dearly love to live in the country again. Thank you.
@@theelliotthomestead Our farm was way up in the northern plains of Minnesota. My mother did most of her growing up there as well. Her dad was a farmer who emigrated from Sweden and ended up here in Minnesota. I live in a town now but the farm site isn't far so I drive there every so often just for memories sake. A little bittersweet but nice to think back. I miss farm life but love to watch your videos...and just remember.
What a beautiful & encouraging video. Thank you! Our family is not on a homestead (yet 😉) but we are all home, all the time. Work from home, homeschooling & the like. So refreshing to see another family living life fully together as God intended & also admitting that this type of life comes with it challenges, but also what wonderful blessings! God's blessings over you all!
No two days are alike with all the moving pieces... so true - and no two families are alike! When I saw your kitchen shot toward the end of the video, I can't help but think how different it is now from when you first started renovating it! One thing at a time, one day at a time, one year at a time... Such an evident testimony through your videos on how a home (not house) is created ❤ Also, ever since I've learned from Clara' Kitchen about the dandelion salad back in the Great Depression era, I have never looked at them the same. I love seeing them in our yard now, knowing they are working hard to draw out the mineral and to aerate the soil! What a hard working plant!
Just read your post on a different page, which struck me to the core. I like many love to and enjoy the taste of meat, but if I had to butcher it, well it would never happen. In today's world perhaps we don't need to kill anymore. So many better ways to nurture ourselves with the knowledge we have. Perhaps we would stop killing each other and our planet too. Today was a sad day. Stuart and I got up at the crack of dawn to load our yearling steer into the trailer and make the small trip to the butcher. I cried. Then my kids cried. And I realized that two things can be true at the same time: we can be grateful for the provision, looking forward to the meat, and be thankful for the nourishment it will provide our family and ALSO be deeply sad because killing anything is hard, I love and care for my animals deeply, and I will miss his little spirit here on the farm. I’m trying to focus on being grateful today.
I love the way you guys find balance. You put in the necessary work, but you intentionally add/delete animals/projects to consistently streamline things, and you purposefully make time for self care like learning a language or playing a guitar so you don't lose yourself in the madness and burn out.
Love your beautiful home. I enjoy listening to all your podcast eps, and I haven't had time for a video of yours in a while so this was a fun one to see. You inspire me with the daily Italian as that's my goal this year too!
We do. She isn’t’t in milk right now and we are potentially moving towards focusing on more sheep for our milk needs. We are constantly adjusting and re assessing what works best for our little farm
Shea , I love your videos , they are one of the things that keep me going ! I especially love your peaceful way of speaking , and sharing ! It’s very comforting ! Keep on teaching your children about the Lord , it really is showing the fruit ! Love you thank you ! Blessings !❤️
You’re DOING it Shaye! You’re showing up and doing the thing and your family is thriving from it! Thank you for this peek into your day, these are my favorite types of videos and take me back to the earlier days on your channel :) Be blessed!
This type of family togetherness is the solution to all the problems in our country today. Shoulder to shoulder with your kids every day. It’s hard and so so beautiful.
Hi it’s my first time commenting but I always watch your videos to give me some inspiration for my mundane home making days . I love your enthusiasm and how hard you work! Your entire family works hard. Love your videos .
My husband and I both work from home and homeschool as well and it has been the hugest blessing. I don't know if my kids will ever even understand it until they're older since it's all they've really known... but my husband and I are both full of gratitude to be "shoulder to shoulder" all day.
I would LOVE an in depth video on how you choose which pots to cook in! I love your copper and love that you still use cast iron.❤️ How do you choose?? 🤣🤣 Also any advice for moms of young children would be so welcome 😍
I look forward to and enjoy your vlogs so much! Still enjoying oil-packed roasted eggplant and tomatos from the summer (thanks!) and caramel popcorn (fall picnic)!
What happened to CeCe now that you’ve made the switch to sheep’s milk? Are you keeping her on just to see how it goes or did you sell her or is your freezer extra full?
It is absolutely laughable how easily you picked the dandelion. That is absolutely not happening here in Pennsylvania. It takes much more effort and even so you leave much of it behind.
Your family is beautiful and your daily life makes me smile. Although my 3 children are adults with families of their own, I still enjoy your vlogs of garden knowledge and food preparation. Thank you.
I really enjoy your channel. I can understand where your coming from with cleaning so its not overwhelming. I had a hysterectomy 2 weeks ago so Im doing the same thing. I got my stove top and dishes done today and that felt good. I like the bit about cleaning hearts up. ❤

Is this a podcast? Movie? Book? Curious. 🥰

Love that series.

It is much easier for us to get them out of the garden beds because the soil is much more loose and fluffy. Not so much in other areas of the farm.
Spanish.
Wish someone would've told my younger self that it was ok to live this lifestyle. ❤️ Just figured this out maybe five years ago. 😂
