Today we're cleaning the cottage. It needs it (doesn't it always?). I hope you enjoy our time together as we work through the living room and dining room together: watering plants, freshening up spaces, redecorating, and ultimately finding joy in our home.
I used to love decorating for seasons and keeping my house so clean, but I am 75 now and just don’t have the energy I had. It is sad and hard to accept but we finally can’t do all the things we used to love . Enjoy these years when you feel good because it goes sofast
You bringing up the need to let go when it comes to "aesthetics" really made me smile because I'm 22 weeks pregnant and so often I see bloggers and influences with a color coordinated kitchen or the baby nursery perfectly designed and thats just not my husband and I. I LOVE the way it looks but practically, we use everything in our home. To start over with new stuff just because they match seems ludicrous. Thank you so much for remaining relatable.
When it became clear that my time for raising little children was small, and finding random toys became fewer and far between, I took a large apothecary jar and every day as I cleaned, I began putting each random toy, block, nerf bullet, marble, etc, into that jar, one lonely item at a time. I knew that as the days passed, one day soon I would find that final lego, and it would be the last I would ever collect….from my floors, or my couch cushions….I timed it just right and it was painful, and suddenly they were all grown. Now, as a decoration the apothecary jar sits on the mantle. It is so real. And it reminds me of the days I long for.
Love this ❤️ as someone who is constantly picking up little trucks and nerf bullets all over I know it won’t always be like this and one day my home won’t be littered with little toys.
Ohhh, thank you for this! Poignant feelings for sure... when my 4 kids grew up, it was quite an adjustment for me. But with grandkids visiting often now, I'm happy to say I'm finding little "reminders" under the couch, etc, of the joy of childhood again♥️
I watch way too many of these clean with me videos, but this one was such a good reminder that we live in our homes! They should show evidence of life, if not, it is just a house! And our homes shouldbe a true reflection of the people who live there. Beautifully done!
That green hutch, blue bar, and snake plants in those stunning planters are *chefs kiss* perfection! That green hutch is especially stunning! The care you have for your home is so infectious, so beautiful, and so heart warming! Thank you for sharing this with us Shaye, I really enjoyed watching!
This is, by far, one of my very favorite videos you've ever made. Thank you for taking the amount of time you did to make this. Your home has always been my favorite and I so much appreciate that you don't feel like you have to buy a lot of stuff to make your home beautiful. I'm frankly so tired of seeing people buying constantly. And I love your red trim!
Oh my gosh, I think I have watched this video like 6 times now, each time I look around her home and just take in all the color and vibrance I am loving it!!
I’ve just finished giving my granny flat a good clean. 2 rooms and a shower. Decorated with my pre loved treasures and brick-a-brack that I’ve collected over the last 75 years. I love it all, from my Gran’s wedding plates to the paintings my grandchildren put on my walls. It is so wonderful to sit down at the end of the day and look around at a life that has been well lived and enjoy the company of my old cat on the balmy Aussie summer nights. I loved this video, you seem so peaceful and contented with your lot. Blessings! 🦘🇦🇺
I am visiting my son and beautiful daughter in-law ❤ and I got inspired and ripped their kitchen apart hhahahaha watching your video. My daughter in-law is doing her Doctorate in Psychiatry and this is my way of showing her how proud I am of her and how I love her❤ Thankbyou for your beautiful videos. Dominican hugs and love from a snowy NYC
I love a patterned rug in every room. Once someone commented on my video that there should be two things under a dining room table. A rug and a dog. Loved it!
"This is my home and it's a great privilege." Thank you for saying that so succinctly. My house is also filled with things well-worn and well-loved, by me and before me by others. Thanks for the continuing to give encouragement to be joyful in the small things of every day. You shine with the light that Mother Teresa talked about when she said "We can not do great things. We can only do small things with great love."
This is so encouraging. I listened to the recent Homemaker Chic and felt liberated by the comment that we should decorate our homes to our individual liking and not necessarily a specific design defined by others. As much as I appreciate Joanna Gaines, (she does beautiful work) it’s not my style. I like bold, I like fun and never really gave myself permission to express that. So thank you!
I agree with you. I loved to decorate to make our home feel cozy and inviting. Nearly everyone’s channel and magazines decorate in the same style and fashion. I too like color and not just soft neutrals and grey. Be well and wishing you many blessings
I watch quite a few "clean with me" channels and I am so grateful you showed dust and dirt in this vlog. THANK YOU!! I felt like you were more real and relatable for it.
These and always will be, my favorite types of videos from you. I love the everyday cleaning, updating with new items, and living in your home. I would love to see more of your home especially when you makeover your basement into a master bedroom. Your home is so delightful and charming. It gives me so much inspiration to do more around my own home. Thanks for sharing it was fun.
I can never get enough of watching people rearrange and refresh! It makes me feel so good! I loooove the simple corner with the banana plant on the table and the red trim and baskets. A very beautiful English cottage moment❤️
This is one of my favorite videos of you , What a beautiful and inspiring , the beauty and simplicity reminds me of the life in Country France 🇫🇷. You and your husband made that house a real HOME. Please please I will love to see a tour, saw the other tour but a recent one. Keep living your dream life in Washington.💕🪴🪴ps love all your plants and cats!
Although not so aesthetically pleasing, aluminum foil crunched up in plant pots keeps the cats out. I appreciate the beauty you create. And I LOVE that chair by the fireplace! Have a great day!
The epitome of “Home”. How lovely and welcoming for a all living things to reprieve and rest in your cozy cottage! I too live in a smaller home now for 30 years and my 3 children were raised here. Within these walls holds our love and memories. I couldn’t imagine a bigger home capturing it as well. Contentment is the secret to a small happy home.
That green paint color on your living room walls perked me up SO MUCH! You wouldn’t happen to remember the name of the color and brand, would you? Such a beautiful home, Mrs.Elliott. Thank you for sharing it with us.
looks like i've found my new lil' happy place with this channel, the calmness in your voice and demeanor makes me want to just sit and watch for hours and smile and feel happy, i love it 🥰
Your home is so lovely! Your personal philosophy on life is wonderful. Please tell me where you bought the greenery you had draped in your fireplace? It’s beautiful!
You're home reminds me of mine, I took over my parents house when they retired and moved to warmer weather. Decrepit ferns, broken dining chairs, excessively used fireplace chairs and marker stains on the table- all here. I redecorate only with the antiques my mom left about this house. It's cozy and beautiful.
Gabrielle Butler -I hear you. Our farm cottage is filled with vintage items that date back to a 1935 household. The Home Comfort kitchen wood stove is 1930, the Hoosier is 1927, plus a Hoosier metal top kitchen table and the Faultless treadle sewing machine is 1900s. Like yours, the pieces were well loved. It is cozy and comforting. Feels like walking into my grandmothers house for fresh baked bread and a cup of tea~ Diane
It is very true that cleaning and decorating a smaller home is far more enjoyable. We live in an massive house, and noticing how neglected the far corners of the home became with the birth of my 8th in December, was so disheartening. Us homeschool mamas especially love our homes. And the esthetic is so important to the atmosphere inside in the long winter months. Yours is so beautiful. Thank you for the inspiration!
I love your jackpot moment find! Those planters are gorgeous!! I have been through coffee table after coffee table from the thrift, all of them beautiful, but none of them feeling quite right for my space. So back to the thrift they went for other people to purchase them. Finally I found a beautiful mid century table at the thrift for $25 and it’s perfect. I found it on 1stdibs forn$2,600!!! That was my jackpot moment lol.
I'm spending my day cleaning the house so might as well have you cleaning in the background at the same time. 🤣 Nothing like cleaning with a friend to make the time go faster. 😉
Those pots are amazing and the snake plants look wonderful. I’m sure the fern will pop back in the greenhouse. I had an indoor Boston fern that was down to one leaf before I relegated to what I call my last chance planter on the Juliet balcony outside my bedroom window. It not only came back, I’ve since divided it and have two that are thriving outside my bathroom windows, where the loss of heat through the glass is enough to keep them going through the Paris winter!
It was your original home tours that drew me to your channel, as I love your aesthetic. I didn’t think it possible, but, your home really does keep getting more beautiful. It’s wonderful. Xx
I am not a big fan of very cold air! Brrrrrrrrrr. I love the soft and cozy feel to your house. I love fireplaces and I can imagine some scotch or bourbon in a glass sipping and reading. I am putting my mind toward renovation s and redecorating when I will be thankfully alone again. This has been such a relaxing video. Thank you.
It’s so lovely to see a homemaker with a small house too. My home is 980 square feet and we also just have one lounge room and a dining room (a tiny kitchen, one bathroom and three modest bedrooms with a tiny laundry off the back door). I’ve always decorated for me too. I think the eclectic style is the most interesting as it can say a lot about the family that lives there.
Very much enjoyed. You always inspire me. Nothing does feel better than a little changing up and tidying and your little cottage is gorgeous and well loved. hugs
I have cats that like to dig in my plants 🤪I herd if u put tinfoil all around the bottom of ur plant were they would dig they won’t go near it .It’s true I did it to all my plants 🌱 there something with the tin foil they hate it lol so it’s awesome no more digging in my plants 🌱 ❤️😻
I do this too! I love to open up all the doors and windows to let the fresh brisk winter air fill the house once a week, "out with the old and in with the new"...it's invigorating! and I also have a tendency to collect a few too many houseplants this time of year as well...
Nice creativity. I understand your comment regarding working in a flower shop. A shop has changing niches with the seasons. We built an open concept, 988 sq.ft. cottage in 2016 with a full walk out basement. Two households got stuffed into it. No attic no garage, no shed as yet. Its just the two of us and my many-many hobbies! We are a working farm family. Now I'm housebound for the NH winter and looking at ALL the cleaning and moving of " stuff " I have in front of me :-O Thanks for taking us along on your cleaning day. Your living room looks great! I am inspired :-)
This was just what I needed today- a direction! Battling anxiety and feeling a bit rudderless. Just seeing you open the window helped lol! We're locked in a subzero weather pattern and its tough. Cleaning gives me a little control; thanks for the reminder!! ❤
I know this is a few years old but if you happen to read new comments here’s one. Take your spare forks or like I did I went to the thrift store and bought some old forks. Put stem in the soil leaving the forks atop the cats will leave the plants alone and you won’t have logs 😊 so to speak in all of your plants. I had the same problem until someone shared this trick with me. Happy homesteading I love your heart and organization within your home thanks for sharing.
I love the organic feel and look of your home! It really resonates with my soul. Thank you for sharing the beauty of your life with us! I watched this video 2 times in a row 😁. I never want your videos to end! The inspiration you share is priceless!!!💖💖💖
Your home looks beautiful, I'm a plants person and we have a small house, it's a juggling act to make room for Christmas and plants and ornaments have to be moved into the hall and up the stairs and then you have to juggle the stuff to get to the tumble dryer or the airing cupboard, it's almost a releaf when we can put everything back to normal.💖
Wow! Just wow... I am swooning , this was not only beautiful but JUST what I needed to stop pouting as I longingly watch Monty "play" in the Jewel garden and have a "play date" with my own inside treasures! Thank you 🌿🕯️🧵🧺🧹🛋️📚☕🕰️🗝️ Many Blessings💙
I share your sentiments regarding enjoying your space as you live, use, need it be be. Our home is our sanctuary from the outside world. It is a intimate reflection of our true selves. As I approach midlife I live this truth deeper each season. Our hearth is the heartbeat of our home too during the cold WI winters. We just adore the serenity and opportunity for reflections, rejuvenation for the season ahead.
Yup! It’s that time of the year. Love “changing” the air in the house as my Grandfather used to say. People think I’m crazy for airing out the house in winter but it makes things feel so fresh and lovely. Nice to see I’m not the only one. Love your lemon apron. Stay well 🙏🏻💜
For breakable items you are afraid might get knocked off a surface; check out museum putty. A tiny pea sized bit of putty under a precious item is enough to keep it in place so accidents can’t happen. I also use it for that one picture frame that alllllways hangs a tiny bit crooked.
I really enjoyed watching you cleaning your lovely home. It seemed to be a labour of love. You are so happy and thankful for everything that you own. A valuable lesson for us all. Cherish what you have. Hello from Ireland
A beautiful bright sunny room ,You give me hope as I see you put a lot of stuff on your mantel as I do,I don’t think I’ve ever seen your library area before ,love it ,I bet reconstructing your chairs would look good ,I’m going to do that with a French chair and footstool I have in my office /library ,
Yes! I always feel the same way when people enter my house - what are they thinking? It's nice to hear that I should just not care... I love that thinking. Going to adopt it...But your home is lovely I can't imagine anyone finding fault in it...
My mother always kept the dining room window open a few inches, even on the coldest snow day, it did make the house so fresh! I love your home, your style, so real and cozy.thanjs for sharing your unique self with us.
I love that your home is unique to you and your family. ❤ It's so gorgeous, and not something we can perfectly replicate, and I so enjoy that! Retail stores are great and a link in the description can make things easy, but so many homes begin to look the same when that's the case. I love your use of various shades of green. ❤ My home is full of various shades of pink. ❤ Your home is so warm and inviting. Thanks for sharing it with us. ❤
thank you for sharing this with us!with 4 kiddos under 6 and heating with a woodstove it seems im always cleaning.i could see you truly enjoyed it.you look so sweet with your apron and fuzzy houseslippers😊i would love to see more of this type of video.
We have similar tastes. Plants, books, antiques, paintings. Love them. The hardest thing for me to do is downsize books. I was happy to see your book stacks. Somehow it made me feel better about mine. Nice video, now to get out my dust rags!
I loved this so much. I don't really have a "theme" in our house. It's whatever we like and makes us feel comfy and cozy. But I do tend to go towards the coastal cottage feel lol. And most of our house is light blue for the paint color which we love! 🥰
Wow you took the words right out of my mouth, i was saying this about my home just the other day, what you said about how you feel about your home and the way it looks i also have a mix of colors and textures and styles, slot of old used furniture and it makes me so very happy, I'm so in love with my little cozy home now more then ever!
Your space is so beautiful, comfy, & cozy. I open the windows in the winter too, the air really is refreshing. Love your videos. Thanks for sharing my friend 🤗
Just wonderful to see a lived in home! Beautiful, I wholeheartedly appreciate your style and it has given me some great ideas for adding some quirk/spark/personality to our new (to us) home that is overly modern and white with no personality
The layering of what looks like different rugs in your dining room wood floor gave me an idea to do the same. Dog scratches. Your "little" cottage has large spaced bold colored and nicely decorated rooms. Love it!
Had the cleaning bug this weekend. Ended up swapping the living and dinning room. Such a small thing but, really lifted my spirits . Thank you for sharing your home with us. It is truly lovely.
Shea you have no idea how much you've blessed me with this video!Everything you have shared is such a blessing.Thats the best ,I feel the same way.I think your home is so beautiful , and so loved !Its the best !love you and you bring such peace .
Yes, life is (too) short. My perspective is, the (beautiful) stuff is only a (motivation) backdrop for our relationships, activities. You make it beautiful. Ty for sharing it!
I love your cottage. We are in the process of building our forever home on our land. I have taken so many ideas from your home so mine doesn’t look so new. I want a cozy, lived in home that is welcoming and us😊
Regarding your fishtail fern/ sword fern (and I apologise if people have already spoken about this), they are native to where I live in Australia and often considered a weed. I absolutely love them and they are great space fillers. They love the shade, and especially love a good prune! You can cut the leaves at any level, but even chopping them at base level they will pop back up with renewed vigour! I’ve seen them grow in bone dry dust between pavers, but I water mine daily during our summer! My advice is to chop the dead leaves off at ground level and cover any lower sharp dead stalks with soil and give them a good mulch! Xx
I love that concept of having no other space to go. Good way to ensure that your family spend time together😁. I also love the green of the walls! Unique and cozy room♥️
I love to see you clean because like you sad is your place I like the plants lookes fresh and greens it's nice you open the windows and the house get fresh air. And be mom and wife . God bless you and your kids. You in my prayers. You're amazing women. I'm do the same. And very clean. Congratulations.
Happy day. I love refreshing the house. This is the boost I needed, as i have been taking down and boxing up Christmas. Everything you did looked lovely. Your cold air therapy made me think of school in Switzerland. We had to open the windows and hang the bedding out every morning. The housemother looked at tbe windows as we went to breakfast. We would push the iron beds up to the windows to save time in remaking, so we could hang the sheet and blanket out from the foot of the bed. I am sure they aired out a lot of germs that way.
Hi Shaye, I was going to clean up yesterday and we'll , I didn't. You got me up and at em 😂. You have a way with things💝. Aaah all better🐦 I didn't just snap my fingers either LoL. I paused you and kept going ,thanks for the push🌈. JO JO IN VT 💕😄☃
Yes... surround yourself with your flavour. I have a similar looking chair, like your green one, that I bought at the thrift for $6. A small house means multi-purpose and lots of use of some rooms! Thank you for sharing.
Love this! I do the same thing! With having the fireplace and heat going during the winter, the air gets stagnant. So when we have a beautiful sunny winter day I open windows and doors. The family doesn't appreciate as much as I do but I'm the one cleaning so....lol.
I can so relate to this video. I have a small older home as well. For years we belonged to the artists and craftsmen guild of Kentucky and we did shows with my husbands instruments. At the end of the shows we traded with other people. I have so much artwork, pottery, blown glass and stained glass. I don't even have room to put it all out. Your video has inspired me to get moving today.
Totally agree with letting fresh air in!! What a difference this makes in the air quality & freshness of the home. Ill often work up quite the sweat anyway on big cleaning days so I barely notice the chill lol
Today we're cleaning the cottage. It needs it (doesn't it always?). I hope you enjoy our time together as we work through the living room and dining room together: watering plants, freshening up spaces, redecorating, and ultimately finding joy in our home.
Where is the garland from?
Wondering that too-source for the garland?
Same! Love the drapery evergreen look! 🌲 Where is that lovey garland from?
This video resonated with me soooooo much in so many ways - thank you so much for sharing! You really inspire me!

Homes are to be lived in. Houses are for show. You have a beautiful and welcoming home! 💝
This is my absolute favorite inspirational video…I watch you clean over and over! It gets me going too. Thank you!
Very much enjoyed. You always inspire me. Nothing does feel better than a little changing up and tidying and your little cottage is gorgeous and well loved. hugs
I have watched this more than once, and I always find it so relaxing to watch. So lovely, all of it.
That mirror is so beautiful but you coved it up with all the flowers
I do this too! I love to open up all the doors and windows to let the fresh brisk winter air fill the house once a week, "out with the old and in with the new"...it's invigorating! and I also have a tendency to collect a few too many houseplants this time of year as well...
"This is my home and it gets to be what I want it to be." the definition of a peaceful sanctuary.
Hi 🖐 - I know how tough that can be. This is a reminder from a random stranger that you deserve a vase of spring flowers 💐and a nice cup of tea 😊
@@valkyraevixx5710 love your reply! 💜
It's a struggle. But if you can catch just a tiny wave of inspiration it helps.
@@mapleleaf3803 yes!
Just lovely! Yes, beauty motivates, beauty inspires, and to my way of thinking, sometimes beauty saves!
Hi Shaye. Your kids are so lucky keep encouraging creativity. It’s worth all the little messes. Your home is so inviting.
Stay well 🙏🏻💜
Yes, letting the old air out and bringing in the new!
Yep if it's at least 40 degrees I air out the house

For breakable items you are afraid might get knocked off a surface; check out museum putty. A tiny pea sized bit of putty under a precious item is enough to keep it in place so accidents can’t happen. I also use it for that one picture frame that alllllways hangs a tiny bit crooked.
I really enjoyed watching you cleaning your lovely home. It seemed to be a labour of love. You are so happy and thankful for everything that you own. A valuable lesson for us all. Cherish what you have. Hello from Ireland
I love that you had built a library. That was exactly what we had needed. What a beautiful home! ❤
Glad you find so much joy in the place where you are planted!
What a beautiful, cozy home. And I also have a plant 'problem'. I love the greenery and life they bring and the air purification they offer.
Wow.. I get fairytale vibes of your home. Beautiful!
thank you for sharing this with us!with 4 kiddos under 6 and heating with a woodstove it seems im always cleaning.i could see you truly enjoyed it.you look so sweet with your apron and fuzzy houseslippers😊i would love to see more of this type of video.
We have similar tastes. Plants, books, antiques, paintings. Love them. The hardest thing for me to do is downsize books. I was happy to see your book stacks. Somehow it made me feel better about mine. Nice video, now to get out my dust rags!
I love homes that look lived in- like wrapping up in a cozy blanket drinking warm tea!
I loved this so much. I don't really have a "theme" in our house. It's whatever we like and makes us feel comfy and cozy. But I do tend to go towards the coastal cottage feel lol. And most of our house is light blue for the paint color which we love! 🥰
Love, love, love all the books. I spied several that we own as well...classics, classical, and theology. ❤
Stumbled across your video while laying in bed sick-CoVid! Was so enjoyable and inspiring. Love your cottage. You’re sure a talented housekeeper!! 👍🌻👏
These are my favorite videos; cleaning and decorating.😊
Your home has old world charm and is very inviting and cozy. That’s the advantage of having a smaller home.
I love watching your RUclipss when you are in your home. Thank you for sharing with us. Be blessed!
I absolutely loved this. I got up, had your video playing and I deep cleaned my dinning area. It looks so fresh and inviting. Thanks for sharing.
I collected a load of nice looking rocks and pebbles and layered them on the soil of my potted plants. Works marvelously to keep the cats out 😊
I use Vintage Childrens marbles on the soil of my plants. I don't have cats, but I love the novelty of them.
I love to see you clean because like you sad is your place I like the plants lookes fresh and greens it's nice you open the windows and the house get fresh air. And be mom and wife . God bless you and your kids. You in my prayers. You're amazing women. I'm do the same. And very clean. Congratulations.
Your home, you and family are so amazing. Thanks for allowing us to see!
Une ambiance chaleureuse, c'est tout doux j'adore 🇨🇵🖐🖐❤
I love your thoughts on home making. We too live in our home and enjoy the spaces we have. Thank you for sharing! 🏠
Beautiful video. Pots are indeed beautiful treasures. Again, such a nice, calming, and inspiring video. Thank you.
Hi Shaye,
I was going to clean up yesterday and we'll , I didn't. You got me up and at em 😂.
You have a way with things💝.
Aaah all better🐦
I didn't just snap my fingers either LoL.
It’s so satisfying watching someone clean their house. You do have charming things.
Love this! I do the same thing! With having the fireplace and heat going during the winter, the air gets stagnant. So when we have a beautiful sunny winter day I open windows and doors. The family doesn't appreciate as much as I do but I'm the one cleaning so....lol.
I love your windows!!! So much sunshine can come in!!!
Thanks for sharing, Your a joy to watch baking and making savouries
Love all your books and the lemon apron and.....the horses! 😊
Totally agree with letting fresh air in!! What a difference this makes in the air quality & freshness of the home. Ill often work up quite the sweat anyway on big cleaning days so I barely notice the chill lol
