Hi richard my name is Chris and im 24 years old my grandpa who was also named richard loved cat fishing like you so watching these makes me think of him while fishing
Haven't been fishing in years. Just now at a point where I'm starting to put together some rods and build my basic tackle. Stumbled upon the machine here and man I've learned so much in a short time. I really really appreciate these videos that you put the time and effort in to put out Mr. Gene. Now if I can just get out and go apply what I've learned...
I love how knowledgeable he is and how freely he shares that with all of us. I find myself taking notes during these videos. Fishing genius. I hope you enjoyed that moon-pie! Keep up the good work.
Agreed. Get a 7 inch leader with a size 1 or 4 baitholder tied to the leader. Then use a good uniknot tie to main line. Put a moderate sized split shot a 1/4 to 1/2 inch above where leader is tied to main line. Put a nightcrawler on an throw line. Let line settle once line settles pop rod tip led rod settle pop a couple times more let line settle then pop a couple more times let it settle. Then do as slow as you can a 1/2 reel turn then let line settle this rig will get crushed once you find the fish. It's a go to of mine main set up I use when fishing I catch 6 to Sometimes 10 fish each trip. Try it you'll be glad you did. After learning this only lures I have now is 2 small spinner lures so they sink slow and top water lures. Then I use a 7 inch leader with a size 4 or 1 baitholder. I tie to main line. Then I measure 18 inches at 18 inches I put 1 1/2 inch bobber or I tie a drop shot these are my 3 go to rigs. You fish a drop shot the same way as the rig with baitholder hook tied to main line with a split shot above where leader is tied to main line.
Your videos are great. I have learned so much from you. It seems that there is a gold nugged or two in every video you produce and release. Even with me at 61 and fished all my life, all over the world, I learn Mr Gene, the fishing machine. Thanks for the great content, stay safe and keep the family safe... Joe
Richad Gene, I'd rather watch you than Bill Dance, Roland Martin or anybody. Because you tell more of what you do and how youre doing it better than anyone ever. I'm handicapped and can't fish like I use to so watching you gets my juices going. Shout out to Mama Sue.
I have been off of work for two weeks and have watched a tn of videos by this man, love them and him, i remember as a kid watching Bill Dance, Hank Parker, Roland Martin and the like Richard sir you have the best outlook, personality and attitude I have seen. The world could use a few more gooduns like you. I have gotten to take my daughters fishing a few times during my off time and have loved every minute of it thanks for rekindling the fire sir. You sir should be on TV as a role model on how to act and fish can;t believe someone hasn't offered your knowledge is unreal to me. I want to end by saying Thank you Richard for the great videos. AND REMEMBER GO FISHING WHEN YOU CAN CAUSE ITS GOOD FER YEE AND US TOO
Richard stop apologizing, you are doing an amazing job! Your very articulate an detailed where you need to be. Ive watched ALL of your videos, some more than once an even though I've fished since I could walk I've learned a lot from you. Thank you for all that YOU do, Wooooo!
this is why i watch , i been in the same situation with animals, herons, geese, raccoons, one day i sat and watched afox walk of with ham sandwiches, but i dont mind sharing.
Hello.Your a great fisherman but most of all I enjoy seeing your videos not only to learn better ways to fish but also to put on a smile!Great videos!Keep them coming!
To the 28 people who have disliked this video yall should be ashamed Richard Gene puts out great videos and clean, helpful, and informational content. Keep making videos I love your channel I'm new and it's the best I've seen yet!!!!
Those "small" ones he's catching are about the average size you'll probably land channel catfish. Blue cats are A LOT bigger compared to channels. Don't think I have ever caught a blue catfish. But someday I will. Largest channel catfish I've caught so far weighed around 12 lbs. 15 lbs or larger are trophy sized.
Tough conditions and Richard figures it out, again. I really enjoy Richards videos because he explains exactly why he is fishing the way he is, conditions, location, and history. Way to go Richard Im ordering my RGTMF tee shirts.
Because of him saying this, I’ve been off of work for over a month (still paid) and have literally fished every.. single.. day lol. I never thought hauling the boat around would get tiring 😂
I was watching an old video of yours from a couple of years back. You were in Gadsden, under the old Emma Samson bridge on the Coosa. Sure brings back memories since I was raised there. Left there back in 65 when I was 17. Good fishing in that area, especially when you go east on the Coosa close to Hokes Bluff. Your channel has grown fast in two years from 8,000 to 150,000. Congratulations!
My daddy would have liked your videos. He passed in 2011 at the age of 90. He liked catching all fish, but catfishing was his passion. He liked catching them with a rod and reel, but he was a master at setting and running throw lines, and limb lines. He taught me a lot about reading a river, or any body of water for that matter. We always seined our own crawdads and minnows which is what we mostly baited with. Thank you for the great videos, and God bless you for all you do promoting this great sport!
Richard Gene, your the best! You can turn my day from an ok day into a great day! I love your enthusiasm and I learn so much from your teaching! Continue on Brother! Whoo!!
The best fishing channel on RUclips right here. …okay. We don't see too many of the good Moon Pies made in Chattanooga around up here in Washington state. When I see them I always grab me some. Sometimes we even get vanilla and banana. I was sitting on the bank with you, Richard. Watching my rod tip. Good times. Thanks for taking me with you.
You definitely are the fishing machine Richard. I’m not new to fishing by any means but I’m trying to get better at catching crappie and cats, and your videos sure help. Shout out from Kokomo Indiana, and keep up the entertaining and informative videos
It was good seeing you this day. Made my boy and I happy to catch the YT Legend in action. Especially it being his first time seeing you. Tight lines bossman keep up the good work.
I grew up in Iowa, and live, fish and hunt in Minnesoter and Wiscontsun. I've fished and hunted in Mizzura too. There just aren't many fellers like Richard up here, which is why I love goin' down south. My blood pressure goes down about ten points just watching him fish.
Well I'll be I have the same reel the ol ambassador, its tough and still kicking like a mule, very unique video ol gene I enjoy all your videos that you make and you sir are awesome 🎣🎣🎣🎣
What is considered high barometric pressure and what’s ideal Richard? You’ve taught me a tonnn about freshwater fishing, Thanks for taking the time to share with us
Some good ole fishing the old school way. Watching this video brought back lots of good memories for me too Gene. Love the videos man and the positive outlook on life. Can not wait to see more.
Richard Gene is the Fishing Machine, and like the sport of fishing, he is "second to none". This 69 year-old would sure like to fish with him sometime, but wouldn't we all?
My husband watches you all the time...now I'm watching too! Love the "extras" in the set- the goose and the long-legged bird(forgot the name of it)...also, appreciate the fishing off the bank vid....some of us don't have boats. God bless.
Man I just love your videos, the respect you have for nature and wildlife is respectable in itself! Most people don’t believe in catch and release but it’s necessary to keep the sport alive for the next generation!
Machine, as I have told you , I started bass fishing about a year ago when I moved to South Carolina from Baltimore, Md. I have learned soooo much from you, you have inspired me to try lightening up my tackle lately and not horSing those fish in lately. I also recently joined a bass club. Cooper River bassmasters. I would love to see you do a video where you go out as if you are fishing a tournament. What you would start with, top water, worms, whatever. I would love to see how you fished tournaments. Anyway u have taught me soooooooo much! Brian McClung. Summerville, SC
Looks like a fun catfish day. They must have some kind of spillway capacity, to be able to dump 2 feet from the lake in two days. That would be fun to see in itself.
They were having to dump in a hurry to get ready for the next round of storms. And yes, when they open the spillways on Guntersville, they can drop the water quick.
I sure enjoy your videos. I just started my own channel Jchestnut Outdoors and am recording videos like crazy and hope to start posting them soon. You are a great inspiration, keep it up.
My jaw dropped when I saw where you were fishing. Before this virus, I would fish that first spot on Guntersville every weekend. Maybe I'll see you one day. I've been subscribed for a long time now, and I've caught many catfish out there, toward that pumphouse. As a 14-year-old, I've learned so much from you, and I've looked up to you as a fisherman. Stay blessed and stay safe! p.s. where can I find a Gander Mountain rod?
12:00 flathhead catfish here in memphis tenn in the wolf river get up to 90 pounds and bigger. ive caught a few 40 pounders before but not the 90 pounders my friends father caught ten years ago.
Hey Richard Gene I just bought a shirt from you. Great fishing channel me and my son have subscribed to your channel God bless you and keep the videos coming!😀😀👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Richard Gene...me and the Crisco would've been mighty fine with those channel cats you caught! LOL! Thanks for sharing and for providing some good tips when fishing discolored, high water...never thought to not use a weight when fishing in a rocky reservoir. Hats off to you and God bless you and Momma Sue.
Love your videos Rich Gene the fishing machine lately I've caught a bunch of catfish. I've caught a couple hybrid catfish between channel cats and white catfish 😊

Finally a catfish video. I've watched the other ones so many times. Thank you Richard.
The secrets to this man's success are the chuck taylors on his feet
But they gotta be Red. No other color will do.
I noticed that! His good luck charms!
Good morning Mr Gene! Thanks for taking me fishing today.
That was the most inspiring WELL GOOD MORNIN FOLKS! I have heard to date. Thanks for the priceless information.
Richad Gene, I'd rather watch you than Bill Dance, Roland Martin or anybody. Because you tell more of what you do and how youre doing it better than anyone ever. I'm handicapped and can't fish like I use to so watching you gets my juices going. Shout out to Mama Sue.

Tough conditions and Richard figures it out, again. I really enjoy Richards videos because he explains exactly why he is fishing the way he is, conditions, location, and history. Way to go Richard Im ordering my RGTMF tee shirts.
I’ve been watching Richard, and every time he says “quit” on a fish they actually quit lol
He's actually got me saying "Quit it!" the way he does when something I'm doing goes wrong.
Hes the fish whisperer
Words without saying
For real😁😂
😂🤣😂
One of the best fishing channels on RUclips. Great work Richard, great content as always.
I can watch him all day ‼️
GO FISHIN WHEN YOU CAN....
Because of him saying this, I’ve been off of work for over a month (still paid) and have literally fished every.. single.. day lol. I never thought hauling the boat around would get tiring 😂
Love your videos definitely praying for the Tennessee valley area
I love using old bass baitcasters for catfish set ups

CoCola ... gotta love this guy
I like to listen to these videos if I’m fishing by myself. I love this stuff.
I've been missing these catfish videos a long time, thanks for sharing.

You definitely are the fishing machine Richard. I’m not new to fishing by any means but I’m trying to get better at catching crappie and cats, and your videos sure help. Shout out from Kokomo Indiana, and keep up the entertaining and informative videos
Great to go weightless. If there's current a moderate sized split shot helps it sink. Plus it'll help you get a little extra casting distance. 😊
When Richard says wooo wooo he's gona catch some more fish this guy is the king of fishing
Thanks Gean love watching you catch them cats
It was good seeing you this day. Made my boy and I happy to catch the YT Legend in action. Especially it being his first time seeing you. Tight lines bossman keep up the good work.
