I read somewhere that he actually had a pretty bad alcohol addiction when he was cast. But knowing he had to look in peak shape for the naked shots, he managed to do a lot of exercise that helped him getting a grip on it.
It's not crazy or amazing. What's crazy is how modern filmakers refuse to use practical effects and just throw money into CGI-ing everything. That's why modern movies suck comparatively in terms of special effects. Practical effects when done right will ALWAYS look better.

They did indeed blow up that building. But more than it could be restored. It's basically just a big gasoline explosion, wit5h not much of a boom. Building still stands to this day. They actually used a lot less CGI, than many people think. For example, the "naked" terminators in the beginning were all animatronics - controlled by people. CGI was still in its infancy, when the movie was made. So a lot of practical effects and miniatures.
@@rodgerlang884 Done right, you can't tell the difference between the two. In fact, many believe that the skeleton terminators in the beginning of this movie, are CGI. And just take Top Gun: Maverick, where they claim no CGI was used, but in fact mist of the movie is.

The bonus "making of" that comes with the DVD shows them blowing up the building. It was a building that was scheduled for demolition anyway, but the movie got permission to blow it up. But if was a proper explosion (with a couple of added CGI explosions), so they had to get it right first time
I was 20 years old when T2 came out and I am so glad I saw it in the theaters. Prior to filming, Linda Hamilton spent three months in intense physical training with a former Israeli Special Forces commando; she could take apart and put back together a gun blindfolded. Robert Patrick, the actor who played the T-1000, went through the same physical training. For the blowing up of Cyberdyne, that was a real building. When this movie came out, a book was published about the making of T2. For Cyberdyne, they found a two-story building and built the facade of a third floor over the second and that is what they blew up in the movie.
Truck driver comes back and is like, "How the hell did that happen? When the Terminator's fight in the mall for the first time, there is a guy taking pictures. This guy was the cop who had his car stolen by the first Terminator. He sees what he thinks is the same guy, years later.
I love that during the scene where the T1000 is chasing the bike, Robert Patrick was told to slow down cos he legitimately kept catching up with it. He used to be a track runner and is an absolute beast
Eraser (1996) is an underrated Arnold classic, IMO. Really silly and campy in some parts, but loads of fun! And True Lies (1994) is another great one directed by James Cameron.
I know why you like it so much! because of the sexy Tia Carrerre of course 😂 especially when she was trying to choke out Jamie in that car scene. who doesn't like a sexy Asian woman?? LOL!
Terminator 2 is a really good classic. Thank you for your reactions to this and other films. You show a lot, you don't make exaggerated gestures, you don't stop every few seconds and you don't tell stories. In short, it's fun to watch with you! Greetings from Germany .
10:10 The actor held his breath when running to improve the illusion he was a machine. Even so, he ran so fast they had to reshoot the scene a few times as the actor outran the car. I'm not sure what is more terrifying. That such a machine might exist in the future, or such an actor existed in 1991.
I lived in California when they made this movie. (The Bay Area) They shot the office building explosion in Fremont CA. I got to watch it in person. They told the public ahead of time and let big crowds form, from a safe distance and watch the explosion. It was awesome. I couldn't wait for the movie to be released to watch the whole thing after that.
The smirk when he picks up the minigun is a "replica" of John's. Also all the scenes of duplicates were shot with twins. The cast also dedicated themselves. The T1000 actor trained at running with his mouth closed and almost caught the dirt bike in the parkade. "Sarah" did workout to become the boss she was in this movie, etc. Also notice that the dialog helps explain the events. For example, John asking Arnie "Your not here to kill me..." and Arnie explains to John AND us that he was reprogrammed.
Most of the films from the past still look good today because everything was model-built...no CGI like today. Whether it's Lord of the Rings / Jurassic Park / Alien or Terminator
32:15 Fun fact: The "somebody" that flew that helicopter was the guy who was told to get out. He's a Vietnam veteran who is known for his super risky stunts in movies like Predator, Scarface, Furious 7, Blade Runner, and this stunt, where he could have actually died.
That's smart. Army veterans are the most likely to perform dangerous stunts. With that being said, it was still pretty risky, so directors should avoid putting them in these 50/50 life-death scenarios.
It's nuts what they could do on early 90s computers when you think of how little performance there were in CPUs back then (I had my first 33 mhz PC around that time). They were just so smart about it and pretty much developed superb tech for this movie.
The very first thing - Arnold being the good guy, and the final scene - where terminator says he cannot self-terminate and she has to lower him into the steel, both came from Schwarzenegger himself. I can't believe you missed another ALIENS star. Jenette Goldstein, who played Vasquez, is John's foster mom. Also the mom with the kids in the nuclear holocaust scene is also Leslie Hamilton.
Great reaction you two to this action/sci-fi classic sequel. This movie was so huge back in the day that it spawned multiple video games adaptations of it (many featuring the digitized voice of Arnold Schwarzenegger) for several platforms (including Arcade, Pinball, NES, SNES, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis/Maga Drive, Nintendo Game Boy, Sega Game Gear, Commodore 64, PC, Mac, etc)...Fairly recently the 'Arcade 1UP' company made a DIY home version of 'T2: The Arcade Game' that you can pick up at many fine retailers as well.
One of the best "first time watching " videos I've seen, in large part to the fact you guys obviously know a few things about movie-making and how these things are crafted, as well as the editing work you two did in showing viewers the clips and your reaction without either piece going on for too long. All of which makes for an entertaining time, thanks ! T2 continues to stand the test of time in cinema, representing James Cameron, as well as the vast crew and cast, at the very pinnacle of their careers. We can discuss the next-level special effects or make-up or the terrific casting and acting but we'd be remiss if we didn't explore the top-notch story-telling and pacing. Cameron is to be celebrated for this extremely compelling screenplay and editing where the move-makers made sure that not one moment of our time as viewers, was wasted. Every single second of screen-time moves the story forward and adds value to the experience we have. Definitely in my list of "top 10" films.
Schwarzenneger in "Total Recall" is exceptional. That movie is not only fantastic sci-fi and big screen fun, but it also has a place in my sould because I spent years in Mexico City and it was filmed there and I recognize many of the locations.
i worked at a movie theater..and we got to see it before opening day. we always had to "check the print" (actual 35mm film) to make sure it wasn't damaged or anything. don't want to find out you got a bad copy during the first show! lol
John's foster mother was played by Jenette Goldstein who was Private Vasquez in Aliens. A connection between The Terminator and T2 that most don't notice. In The Terminator Arnold runs over a toy semi-truck. The truck that the T-1000 takes to chase John is painted exactly like the toy truck from the first movie.
I imagine that John Connor broke up with his girlfriend after finding out her last name was Reece. However, she was already pregnant. She named the baby Kyle.
The helicopter stunt was done by a Vietnam war helicopter pilot. im pretty sure. The cameraman was afraid to be on the helicopter, so James Cameron did it for him.
Robert Patrick, a young actor who was living in his car when he was cast, worked out to improve his physique and running style. His running speed improved so much, that he caught Edward Furlong on his motorcycle in the garage on the first take. Edward Furlong was also an unknown but that was Jame Cameron wanted as most child actors came from kids shows and were taught to be perky and funny all the time. He want angry and defiant with self-reliance. He found it.
18:31 is a straight up boss fight scene from video games. movie had and still has awesome vibes. And with real stunts, like the vietnam vet who flew the helicopter under the bridge.
Kudos to the great helicopter stunt pilot Chuck Tamburro, who agreed to do the low bridge underpass TWICE (For the second one, the camera crew refused to film it, as some others pointed out, so Cameron did it himself with a stationary camera at the back of a van) in addition to all the sequences. Cameron was so happy he gave him a small cameo on the film (he's that guy bailing out of the chopper after the iconic "GET OUT". And funny enough after bailing out you can see it's his body shape flying away from the scene lol) . Any and every major action film where there's a chopper, he's the man flying it. Scarface, Predator, Die Hard, that's him.
Okay, you got it... my recommendation for the next Arnold movie is "TRUE LIES" (1994). Serious action scenes, a truckload of humor, and a stellar cast. It's white knuckle laughs all the way, you will love it.
The scene at the beginning was shot in a facility with physical objects, then the digital effects like lasers were added later. Everything was done with necessity. & the early 90's was a special time of quality, wonder, goodness - it was golden. Probably could say: The Golden Era. I mean THE Golden Era.
The Protectinator. As a kid in the early 90's this movie was absolutely amazing to us and still is. We were just like John Connor. "Easy Money" This was during the birth of CGI and it was mind blowing, just like Jurassic Park. They didn't depend on it, they utilized it in its infancy. There are actually two sets of twins in this, the cop's and Sarah's. I honestly cried at the end the first time. I can't lie. "It's when there's nothing wrong but, you cry any way."
"This war doesn't seem to be going well for humanity." Funny you should say that, because the opening future war scene is actually the human resistance breaching Skynet's main facility to shut it down and take control of everything. It's literally humanity winning the last big battle, lol.
The building explosion was real The Helicopter chase was real The Truck chase and drop in the LA waterways was real The bike jump down there was a stunt man and real The behind the scenes special is really worth a watch James Cameron is a legendary director.

For fun, on your own time, you should check out Arnie's first film. It's 'Hercules in New York', from 1969, when he was 22. Originally his voiced was dubbed, but the DVD has the undubbed version, with his heavy Austrian accent. You'll see how far he's come.
This is one of my favorite movies, I seen this when it went to home video in 1992. I must say both of y'alls reactions I love and loved hearing your thoughts. Great reaction video. 😁
Yeah it is one of the better of movie examples of a nuclear explosion. First the (literally) blinding light that ignites and burns everything within its radius and then the shockwave that annihilates everything that wasn't first destroyed by the burning light. Chilling stuff.
Well that's never actually been observed so it's impossible to be certain what happens. I doubt people would burn as shown here, more likely the soft tissue would evaporate instantly
The reaction was simply incomparable and amazing👏👏👏👏👏. I am very glad that you have watched the extended version. And special thanks for this moment 21:27- 21:29.
Something I didn't notice for the longest time: Arnold's Terminator started copying John Connor's wry, lopsided grin. Wonderful little detail, and it took multiple viewings over the years for me to see.
Actor Robert Patrick (T-1000) was in such great shape that he ran too fast during the chase scenes. They had to reshoot some scenes because he was catching up to John on his bike. 😆
Fun fact: Robert Patrick (the guy who played the T-1000) and some friends of his in college were out on a boat in Lake Erie when it capsized and he had to swim three miles to shore to get help while his friends waited on the overturned boat.
I absolutely love watching these reactions where the Terminator twist isn't ruined for people. The look of surprise on their faces when he saves him! This has always been one of my top favorite movies. Absolutely great time watching this movie. I am curious if Mr. Maplenut has ever seen the Extended Cut (or any other longer cut) of the movie. Some cool stuff in those versions although a lot of it I'm fine being on the cutting room floor. One scene, at least, I wish they would've left in though. Get to see the real operation.
I can't remember exactly from the DVD bonus disc back in the 00's but I think Robert Patrick used to run Track & Field and at full sprint was able to keep up with the dirt bike in the parking lot to such an extent that James Cameron had to ask him to slow down but they worked together for the close up shots to show that the T-1000 wasn't breathing or got out of breath
A lot of nice details. For instance, at 18:12 T1000 steps on the guy's glasses. The body of the glasses disappear, probably lodged into his foot. Or at 19:11, as he is dragged on the ground behind the car, you can see a trail of metal dust he is leaving behind.
The use of Linda’s twin sister at towards the end and the psych ward guards who were also twins was a brilliant way to capitalise on the “practical” effects without needing to use scene cuts and body doubles
Fun Fact: James Cameron was contacted by the FBI because of the nuke scene. They wanted to know where and how he acquired the knowledge to make it so realistic.

😂😂😂😂
Above all the whole thing, my favorite scene with Sarah is where she holds Dr. Silberman hostage at the beginning of the breakout, Linda Hamilton DOMINATES the sequence, showing she's a legit badass. Until the T-800 shows up 😁
OK, simp...
@@Blutteufel Was that supposed to be some kind of a put down? For Linda Hamilton as buffed up and badass as she is for this movie you're goddam fucking right I'm a simp too.
She's literally the baddest woman in cinema. The part where she's holding it down against the Terminator in the helicopter knowing she can't kill it is wild
The liquid metal effect was first made by James Cameron's team in The Abyss which they were so happy with they refined it and brought it back for this movie :)
Robert Patrick's audition vid was just 5 minutes of him staring into the camera _menacingly_
I read somewhere that he actually had a pretty bad alcohol addiction when he was cast. But knowing he had to look in peak shape for the naked shots, he managed to do a lot of exercise that helped him getting a grip on it.
To think that this movie is as old as it is, yet the special effects still look so amazing...it is crazy.
Absolutely pioneering for the time, what do you expect from Cameron?
It is only crazy if you think that newer always means better.
@@Diomedeneexactly older films look so much better than now a days
James Cameron doesn't do what James Cameron does for James Cameron. James Cameron does what James Cameron does because James Cameron is James Cameron!
It's not crazy or amazing. What's crazy is how modern filmakers refuse to use practical effects and just throw money into CGI-ing everything. That's why modern movies suck comparatively in terms of special effects. Practical effects when done right will ALWAYS look better.
I saw this in a theatre in Japan just after it came out and the whole cinema cheered when Sarah was revealed doing pull-ups on the upturned bed.
She was the perfect amount of jacked for this movie. Like lean and strong, but not big, so she'd be fast too. Bruce Lee strong.
@yt45204 No, that's a recent thing, like incel forums and Jordan Peterson videos.
Was it in English?
@yt45204 "Always"? In your experience? What are you? 16 years old?
In 1991 I was 23 years old and living in Poland. A year earlier I had bought an Amiga 500 and in 1988 I had a VHS video recorder and watched a lot of films on video cassettes.
Greetings from Poland🎞🎞📽📽😉😉👍👍
They did indeed blow up that building. But more than it could be restored. It's basically just a big gasoline explosion, wit5h not much of a boom. Building still stands to this day.
They actually used a lot less CGI, than many people think. For example, the "naked" terminators in the beginning were all animatronics - controlled by people. CGI was still in its infancy, when the movie was made. So a lot of practical effects and miniatures.
and that's why it looks so good. It's the mix of practical and CGI
@@rodgerlang884 Done right, you can't tell the difference between the two. In fact, many believe that the skeleton terminators in the beginning of this movie, are CGI.
And just take Top Gun: Maverick, where they claim no CGI was used, but in fact mist of the movie is.
CGI was not as advanced as today but it was not exactly in it's infancy either. James used the latest advancements in CGI for this movie and developed new concepts as well. The effect not only hold up but are outright better than 99% of effects in modern movies. Because they perfectly blend practical with CGI unlike today when most movies only use CGI.
What about Linda's twin sister, wouldn't she also need to go through the same physical training to still look like her for particular scenes?
How did she get so buff by going through training with a baby killer?
Truck driver comes back and is like, "How the hell did that happen?
When the Terminator's fight in the mall for the first time, there is a guy taking pictures. This guy was the cop who had his car stolen by the first Terminator. He sees what he thinks is the same guy, years later.
I love that during the scene where the T1000 is chasing the bike, Robert Patrick was told to slow down cos he legitimately kept catching up with it. He used to be a track runner and is an absolute beast
This fact is always hilarious lol
WAS a beast. Man's 65 now, and unfortunately, time catches up with all men.
Eraser (1996) is an underrated Arnold classic, IMO. Really silly and campy in some parts, but loads of fun!
And True Lies (1994) is another great one directed by James Cameron.
True Lies is very underrated.
Same for Last Action Hero.
True Lies is my favorite Arnold movie, I think you would love it :)
True Lies (1994) - another fun Arnold/Cameron combo.
With that he she Jamie Lee Curtis
After 33 years, it's safe to say that this is the movie with the best aging special effects ever made. Even today, it's still very impressive.
Robert Patrick DID catch the bike on the first take....
Most of the films from the past still look good today because everything was model-built...no CGI like today.
Whether it's Lord of the Rings / Jurassic Park / Alien or Terminator
After the first Terminator, nobody thought they'd ever be rooting for him in the second movie.
One take of that stunt was already dangerous enough, but they did it twice. I wouldn’t. Well, then again, it’s not like John Landis was directing.
The cameraman refused to film the stunt because of the danger - he didn't want to film someone dying. So Cameron filmed it himself.
Actually him playing a positive character was his requirement and that lowering-down was an on-set idea of his
Last Action Hero. Great Arnold actikn comedy with a fabulous soundtrack.
And Robert Patrick (the T-1000) makes a cameo in it too... 😉
@@MLJ7956Robert Patrick also does a cameo as the T-1000 in the movie Wayne's World.
My favourite movie of all time. I watched it way to young, but fell in amazement. The opening theme is great. The acting is great. I love this movie. Can watch it anytime. Anywhere. Watching people react to the twist is awesome. Like, wait, what?
It's rare to find someone who doesn't expect the twist at 9:30. Awesome.
he's seen it before, many times, nice acting though
T-1000 being in shocked by his frozen hand being broken off was funny lol and clever
I loved "Tod's" line "Hey! Shut up you stupid piece of shit." Makes me laugh everytime.
Schwarzenneger in "Total Recall" is exceptional. That movie is not only fantastic sci-fi and big screen fun, but it also has a place in my sould because I spent years in Mexico City and it was filmed there and I recognize many of the locations.
32:19 the chopper under the bridge stunt wasn't approved, but Cameron did it anyway.
"Action, explosions, and butts."
That sounds like a winning formula to me.
"Hold onto your butts."
It's why nothing will ever top the 80s.
im pretty sure "Action, explosions, and butts." were Mother Theresa's last words.
@@joegreene7619 This was the production goal for every 80s action movie, that's true.
@@AlsoCuteAndFLUFFY If they weren't, they should have been.
I am going to endeavour to make them my last words from this day forward.
i worked at a movie theater..and we got to see it before opening day. we always had to "check the print" (actual 35mm film) to make sure it wasn't damaged or anything. don't want to find out you got a bad copy during the first show!
The guy mindlessly snapping photos of the T-101 at the mall is the young patrol cop who got roughed up by the T-100 in T1.
The reactions of the streamers are priceless. Thanks guys!)
I imagine that John Connor broke up with his girlfriend after finding out her last name was Reece. However, she was already pregnant. She named the baby Kyle.
The Cyberdyne building was a real explosion. There's an office building that was going to be demolished so Cammeron bought it and blew it up!
One of the greatest sequels ever. Up there with Empire Strikes Back, Rocky 2, Aliens, Return of the King, Endgame.
The Dark Knight
Gremlins 2
I think "get down" would have been the next "I am your father" if the trailers didn't spoil it.
Godfather 2 is the greatest sequel of them all.
Full stop.
@@NeverMeAlwaysYou no it’s not. Full stop.
The helicopter stunt was done by a Vietnam war helicopter pilot. im pretty sure. The cameraman was afraid to be on the helicopter, so James Cameron did it for him.
The T1000s noise at the end is the same noise Cameron used for the Alien queen in Aliens
How is it possible that a man with such a mustache has never seen the Terminator before?
Literally JUST finished watching ur reaction to the first one and im pumped to watch this reaction so soon! You guys are great, awesome commentary!
"This war doesn't seem to be going well for humanity."
Funny you should say that, because the opening future war scene is actually the human resistance breaching Skynet's main facility to shut it down and take control of everything. It's literally humanity winning the last big battle, lol.
The building explosion was real
The Helicopter chase was real
The Truck chase and drop in the LA waterways was real
The bike jump down there was a stunt man and real
The behind the scenes special is really worth a watch James Cameron is a legendary director.
To be fair, the bike jumping down was on wires which were digitally painted out so "real" sort of...
@@Jaydogg222 ohhh ok ;)

little bit of trivia, Guns N Roses sang You Could Be Mine for the movie, the music video even has T2 incorporated into it and as a little hidden cross-promotion, the shotgun Arnie has is hidden in a box of roses. Gun and roses!

True Lies = Arnold, comedy and action. A must watch
I love Robert Patrick who played the T-1000 I got to meet him at a terminator 2 panel in 2022 at the steel city con in Monroeville Pennsylvania.
For fun, on your own time, you should check out Arnie's first film. It's 'Hercules in New York', from 1969, when he was 22. Originally his voiced was dubbed, but the DVD has the undubbed version, with his heavy Austrian accent. You'll see how far he's come.
Has anyone watched Cactus Jack (or The Villain) from 1979? This time Arnold stars in a comedy western.
Or even as a reaction. I think every reaction channel could use some not-so-good movies for the fun of it.

This is one of my favorite movies, I seen this when it went to home video in 1992. I must say both of y'alls reactions I love and loved hearing your thoughts. Great reaction video. 😁
The dream sequence is pretty damn accurate. If you were in a certain zone, you’d combust and then get blown apart. Absolutely horrifying.
That , and when John is talking to him the T-800 is sitting slightly hunched and more relaxed like a human
In subsequent movies, we found out whom Arnold's T 800 was modeled after but whom was the T1000 modeled after from Skynet?? Storywise, I mean.
Actor Robert Patrick (T-1000) was in such great shape that he ran too fast during the chase scenes. They had to reshoot some scenes because he was catching up to John on his bike. 😆
He was a track and field star at Bowling Green. Not just in shape but actually had trained as a runner
Didn't he suffer a knee injury? I kinda remember hearing that. If so, imagine how fast he'd be in the running scenes. LOL.
I love how he modelled his movements on a cat stalking prey.
Fun fact: Robert Patrick (the guy who played the T-1000) and some friends of his in college were out on a boat in Lake Erie when it capsized and he had to swim three miles to shore to get help while his friends waited on the overturned boat.
Commando… is a classic Arnold movie, very entertaining
In my opinion, True Lies is Arnie's best movie. Also directed by James Cameron.
Just saw a video that pointed out that the mall scene where John runs into Arnold the first time was a possible homage to Guns n Roses (the shotgun hidden in the box of red roses) as they made a song for the movie soundtrack, you can hear it playing while John and his homie ride around in the dirt bike .
I've been waiting for this one.
