  • Pharmacist Abraham, discusses Turbohaler. How To Use A Turbohaler. Symbicort, Pulmicort, Bricanyl Turbohaler.
In this weeks video we’re looking at How To Use A Turbohaler (Symbicort Pulmicort Bricanyl). This video consists of the current information on How To Use A Turbohaler (Symbicort Pulmicort Bricanyl).
    VIDEO BREAKDOWN:
00:00 Turbohaler | How To Use A Turbohaler (Symbicort Pulmicort Bricanyl)
00:45 What Is A Turbohaler (Symbicort Pulmicort Bricanyl)
02:46 How To Use A Turbohaler (Symbicort Pulmicort Bricanyl)
09:22 Cleaning And Storing Turbohaler (Symbicort Pulmicort Bricanyl)
    WHAT IS A TURBOHALER:
Turbohalers are commonly prescribed for patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) as they are very effective at delivering the medication straight to the lungs where it is needed. Using your turbohaler correctly is an important part of asthma or COPD treatment. You should be shown how to use turbohaler properly by a healthcare professional when they are first prescribed.
    HOW TO USE A TURBOHALER:
    Why is technique important,
    • It allows the correct dose of medication to reach your lungs.
    • It gives you better control of your condition.
Please watch the video for the full explanation on how to use a turbohaler and how to prime a new device,
1- Breathe out gently and slowly away from the inhaler until your lungs feel empty and you feel ready to breathe in.
2- Hold the inhaler horizontally, but don’t tip it upside down as the powder may fall out.
3- Place the mouthpiece between teeth without biting and close lips to form a good seal. Remember, do not cover the air vents.
4- Then breathe in forcefully as strongly and deeply as you can until your lungs are full. This is key to make sure that a full dose can reach your lungs.
5- You may not be able to sense if the medicine has entered your lungs from inhaling the device, this lack of sensation does not mean that it hasn't reached the lungs, you should not repeat the dose even if you do not feel this sensation.
6- For those of you who can’t inhale strongly or deeply, maybe a turbohaler isn’t the correct inhaler for you. You can usually tell if you can't breathe in enough by tasting the powder from the inhaler, as it can’t reach your lungs or with some inhalers, not hearing a ‘click’ sound. Please speak to a healthcare professional if this happens.
7- After inhaling take the inhaler out of your mouth and hold your breath for up to 10 seconds, or for as long as you comfortably can.
8- Then breathe out gently away from the inhaler. If you’ve been prescribed a second puff, repeat these steps.
Common mistakes that are made with Turbohalers include:
    • Not holding the Turbohaler upright when loading the dose.
    • Not twisting the grip in both directions to load the dose correctly.
    • Not inhaling strongly enough to draw the medication out of the Turbohaler and in to your
    lungs.
    • Moisture from breathing out getting inside the Turbohaler and leaving the cover off.
    Useful tips
    • Place the Turbohaler on a table to keep it upright when loading the dose.
    • Replace the cover after use.
    • If your Turbohaler contains a corticosteroid rinse your mouth out with water after your
    dose.
    • Speak to your healthcare professional if you experience problems using your Turbohaler.
    • Always read the patient leaflet provided with your Turbohaler for any specific instructions

Yes I agree and my chest hurts to suck in the air I have had the flu chest congestion and fell and now have a probable hairline fracture on my ribs right side kinda sucks but I’m a first time user of this turbo haler I will give it time mines steroidal and regular bronchodilator but to fast inhale is kinda hard, for me but due to my rib injuries it should be fine regularly. Thanks 🙏I don’t think mine has a whistle though or my inhale is not strong enough ? It looks the same but ? Heellllpppp

The counter does not show single doses. If I remember correctly it shows per 20 doses or so. At he end, when the counter shows zero, there is still a lot of powder in the base of the turbohaler. Now am wondering. This could be because the doses were not properly inhaled (not strong enough) & does that mean that though the counter shows zero one can continue using the remaining powder in this particular inhaler?
