Positions matter. That is why the backswing position where the trail arm is bent produces an angle. this angle allows for the production of speed and power.
In this video I define Moe Norman's backswing position and how he produces leverage and power.
About the Single Plane Golf Swing
The Single Plane golf swing is not a quick fix golf technique. It is a system, beginning at address, that simplifies the most important moment of the golf swing - impact.
Starting at address on two planes where the arms hang straight down at address, the Conventional golf swing is complicated. Because the arms are hanging straight down, a conventional golfer must lift the body into impact creating stress on the back.
This upward movement to accommodate the two planes is unnecessary.
The Single Plane Golf swing simplifies the golf swing by eliminating the need for the upward movement by starting and impacting on the same plane.
To find out more about the Single Plane Swing, I have created a "Single Plane Pocket coach" that you can take to the range, or course, and learn the fundamentals of the swing. Find out more about the Pocket Coach here: SwingPocketGuide.com
Look how Moe put his hands on the club.
No explanation required. Your eyes arent lying.
Bracing against the right leg is a game changer! I originally bent my knee on my tilt at address, but since straightening the knee, I'm hitting them more flush!! Thanks, Todd!
Imagine what Mie could do with today's clubs.
MOE
The shot tracer is awesome. For the first time I can see, with my own eyes, how good Moe hit the ball.
@@jfboomerang1310 agree!
Great to watch….The ‘Feeling of Greatness’ !
Great work on that old footage!!! 🎉Praise God !!!
Thanks Todd for your dedication to an easier way to play the game 🎉
Todd, is the fact that Moe keeps his right foot planted at impact help him take pressure off his back and his high hand at address save his back from wear and tear? When I tried this swing I noticed I did not feel and back pain. Just wondering which aspect of swing is saving the back.
impact
“Pure as the driven snow!” 😂 So true…so amazing to watch. Over and over.
Its been a long journey learning on my own. The videos of Murray on YT have been a great help. Slowing this down to quarter speed one can clearly see he bottoms the driver well behind the ball. Who teaches that? I never heard it from Graves. I discovered it on my own several years ago before Moe videos. Also, not many teach you to look at the ass end of the ball when it is on the ground. It may seem like common knowledge, but it is never really taught. "KEEP YOUR HEAD DOWN AND LOOK AT THE BALL." Not good advice at all. On Teaching kids, Moe said he would start them with the putter and then the Wedge, irons, and on to the driver. Can you see the logic in his thinking? It is very clear to me... now! We all must learn to think and reason on our own. How do we move the ball to a target using this crooked stick? Basic fundamentals never taught. Take nothing for granted. Questions everything. Thank you George Carlin & Todd Graves!
Bottoms the driver ??
Excellent video and nice to hear Moe's commentary, with shot tracer, on hitting his positions.
Thanks.
Todd, another outstanding video, great content.
What an honour it was to have watched him hit ball-after-ball in person. Sadly, at the time, I had no idea of the magnitude within his ability. It looked SO easy.
It IS eash. I'll give you that.
Ben Hogan wrote to use our thighs as we are bending our knees in order to secure heavy buttocks thus placing us is a sitting on the stool position with springy legs as Moe said he does. I then expand both arms out-club head away from my ball-swing back and forth; and my club head now is mysteriously going directly through my ball directly to my target. No more shoulders or hips spinning out of control; and the left side of the fairway is no longer a concern of mine. Amazing!
Thank you Moe and thank you Todd and thank your Ben Cheers 👌👍🥂
Todd, you are the exception to the rule that: "Free advice is usually worth what it costs...". Thanks so much for sharing Moe's (and your) wisdom, it is a great help in this golfing adventure.
Todd, thanks for sharing simply AMAZING golf lesson from the legend..Mr Moe. He was a natural born athlete, who practiced for his own enjoyment and betterment. Love the extension backswing, and right elbow bent...ever so important...its the opposite of present day coaching's.
If you go far enough left with your right side against the trail brake you will transition to the lead brake automatically. Game over!!
I would like to see his complete swing in super Slo motion.
Try using the x.25 (one-quarter speed) option on RUclips. On the "gear" icon under the video screen, adjust the Playback Speed, or like I do simultaneously press the Shift key and the < key (less than key, aka the top portion of the comma key)
Why are the hundreds of tour pros not using this way of hitting the ball if its so amazing.
Just a thought. Tiger Woods for example, nothing like this swing
Because they are not Mo Norman.
I never have hit the ball as pure as I do now . I study this and practice every day or most days
0.25 x playback speed - SLOW MOTION Moe!! What a player!!!
Moe had to been an actual Genius
The one @ only Moe the original - I will Do It My Way - I bet you are all singing LOL. @ thanks to Todd for keeping is memory alive .it has to be the most repeatable golf swing ever removes all unnecessary moving parts 80 years down the line I am at last playing the best golf ever and being a Spinal Consultant still in practice . Moe's swing virtually eliminates stress from the spine @ other joints in the body .It was not the first time at So called golf lessons I was told my swing was like an octopus every thing moved but my bowels LOL .Todd keep up the great work in Moes Memory
well done, great upgrade to the video of Moe's swing. Easier to see what he is doing.
Thanks.
Is there a Moe Norman video at higher frames per second and good resolution?
I watch these videos and just laugh at how Canadian Moe is 🤣 legend
That Armswing is Power baby.
Great video. Thanks graves golf.
Thanks informative content
It truly isn’t single plane swing if he is bringing his arms straight down to P6 correct? Honestly asking.
right arm does nothing
Go to videos where Todd break down his swing.100% single plane
Why is my comment getting deleted?
You don't need shot tracer on Moe!!!
Very nice video. Would you say Moe was a trail-arm swinger (throw the ball) or a lead-arm swinger?
Both
lead
Forget all the Details. Swing them Moe Straight Arms for distance. Just Swing, Forget body stuff.
Ira. You've been active on these forums for years. Why not post your swing so we can see if your advice is helpful.
@@ToddGravesGolf not gong in competition with you. Sorry.
@@shofeyYep. That’s what we thought. Moe is legendary…hands down.
thank you
Great upgraded video! Cool stuff!
Thanks.
Thank you
Wow
would you say Moe yanks it inside quicker than most?
No.
he's extended,,,u cant redirect club,,its on swing path
Is the skipping a rock direction not at the green or fairway but instead towards behind you as if you were skipping a rock to a green that was behind you, or as if your back was facing the lake when skipping a rock? That way you would stay lower through the shot longer? IDK?
Unsure of this question? Can you rephrase?
I had this same issue. The skipping the rock is just a function of how the arms naturally move when the club is released through the downswing. You shouldn’t be “trying to skip a rock” as a conscious muscular action. I too used to be confused as to what level I was supposed to skip a rock, was it in front of me? To the side or behind? Was the plane flat or tilted? Etc. don’t get stuck in that way of thinking, instead, if you are matching the model, correct address, proper motion and leveraging the club on plane, then when the swing changes direction, again, on plane, then “skipping a rock” is the natural way the arm works from position 3 to position 5. Due to swinging on plane, it will be similar (visual and sensation) to skipping a rock at a regular horizontal lake in front of you. It’s just important you understand the ability to “skip a rock” depends on your ability to match the model and swing the club on plane via hitting the positions, NOT just standing there trying to skip a rock. Use the big muscles to move and leverage on plane so the small muscles can act fast at the right time, unconsciously. Positions positions positions.
@@ToddGravesGolf What I mean is that if I try to skip a rock on a lake my shoulders are in line with the intended direction, but if I wanted to rotate more I would have my shoulders say 45 degrees to the right of my intended direction (tossing right handed). That way I stay lower, rotate more, and swing through the ball rather than hit at the ball. IDK? I'll have to try this next time I get out tp practice, and see what happens. Cheers
Wide stance. For stability or what?
Yes
u cant waver as much ,yes stable,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,he doesnt like hip turn it pulls u off ball
I got a question and hopefully you can answer it. How far did Moe put his club away from the ball when hitting his driver? I've kinda changed my swing to a Moe swing, but I'm still trying to figure out the driver set up.
It's really not how far he put the club away as its more of turning into the back swing. Everybody's distance is going to be different. youtube a video called Moe Norman - One of the Greatest Golf Swings in History. It's a great video of Moe at the trailing end of his prime. Plus it shows Moe doing that great seat position and slide back with his back end. That as he got older disappeared. You will also notice he is significantly more close position look in this video. You can note from the video generally how far he had the club from the ball.
@@bfg9000d1 thank you, i will look up that video..
Good question Juan. His driver would sit at its normal loft but more importantly, he maintained the same swing angle (plane) on the backswing and at impact - a key element for a repeating golf swing. That said, and unlike most all pros, after impact his swing plane changed significantly! It's clear that he felt that going through impact it was paramount to keep the clubhead square to the line of path for as long as possible!!! Clearly, getting a hyper-long club extension and lining up to the clubhead toe was not his thing. Anyway, most all pros feel that after impact it's easier/better to keep the club on the same swing plane going through follow-through. IMO in his day Moe was more focused on consistency than clubhead/ball speed and length, while today's pros are looking for extras with better club design technology (including longer shaft length, more aggressive use of wrists, etc.)

Awesome video!!
Thanks.
What verticle drop?? He said it but didn't do it. Same as Hogan.
Feel vs Real. The club shallows.
@@ToddGravesGolf Feel IS real. Tell us you don't have FEEL in your golf swing. Not a player that does not feel. unless you are DEAD
@@shofey Feel is subjective. It is a by-product. It is not the source therefore it is Not Fundamental.
@@shofeyWhat Todd said! Shofey, for all golfers (maybe even you), there are swing thoughts and/or things we try to do in our swing that are not 100% technically what we actually do... or are even achievable. All emerging golfers have various swing visualizations that accentuate various actions and no doubt, charismatic golfers are more than happy to amplify, exaggerate and embellish they're swing thoughts. So for those of us more left-brained logical thinkers like you and me, it's worth considering others like Moe have a flair that we may not choose to swallow "hook, line and sinker."
when club reaches end of backswing,,it comes straight down
Great video. 2 proven facts after many experts have analyzed his swing. 1st one is he was the greatest ball striker. 2nd is his swing is not practical and was for Moe and Moe only. This swing is not practical for 99.9% of the players out there. People, stop trying to swing a club like other players. Work with what is best for you. Any teacher worth anything will tell you this and teach you this. Anyone trying to teach you Moe's swing is selling you false hope and wasting your time and money.
If this swing was for everyone and so built for everyone, you would definitely see 90% of pros and amateurs playing it. You will see the greats all have their own swing. They make their swing into one that hits the ball constantly.
his principle is club on flightline,,
