From the stuff I've heard, the core stuff basically took elements of metal, simplified the entire genre of hardcore into chugging breakdowns, and added emo singing parts.
Blame At the Gates. They turned death metal into conformist garbage.
whats your opinion on whitechapel's somatic defilement? Nothing emo about that deathcore album.
Metalcore is a hybrid of melodeath and east coast hardcore. It has nothing to do with the late 80s emo scene or the 90s skrams scene

Lucky you lol. I’ve inquired about that a few times and have always been told no. But yes, can’t hurt to try
I might’ve had more luck because the one’s I inquired about were all pretty big sales. This is probably the last place in the world I should be admitting this lol, but the first time I did this it was for Epicardiectomy’s 2013 promo and the seller was asking $135 for it. I think it's a generational thing for sure but it's good to be aware of the differences, yes. When I got into music (by myself because I had no relatives interested in this stuff), my first encounter was with the scene movement (core, emo) but then I had a clear path that looked like this: core - heavy - thrash - death - black - and now mostly brutal tech death, old school death, war black, sludge...
All about personal experience man. I was born 1988 and was raised in a Christian Baptist house. And was only allowed to listen to bs Christian rock. Always hated it. Then parents split and mom layer off the Jesus bs and I started listening to radio rock and gravitate towards blink 182, the offspring, red hot chili peppers, basically pop punk. Then dove into darker punk. And eventually extreme metal. I skipped the metal core stuff and never liked it at all. But can understand why someone would dig it or at least have some roots in it. We all are into what we're into for reasons. Later dude and have a good weekend \m/
@@mikeviolate666 Oh yeah, valid point. Well to be honest i'm glad that we all got here eventually in a way or another. Cheers, have a great one!

Scenecore/Metalcore > Deathcore > Prog-Metalcore > Djent> Progressive Metal > Hardcore > Tech Deathmetal > Thall > Blackened Deathcore> now I basically just listen to everything listed there, there was no real clear tragectory.... good music is simply good music. I can jump from old scene stuff, to modern metalcore like currents/invent animate, to things like humanity's last breath, back to lorna shore, then to Archspire, then to some unprocessed, throw in some hardcore bands ect ect. yeah I mostly listen to modern bands, but I do go back to some older ones from time to time, I just like discovering newer bands and being part of the scene that paves the way for the future of metal as a whole.
@@NathanielBTM True, I like what you said about jumping from old school to different (recent) stuff. In my opinion we kinda have an advantage because of that. there is also metallic hardcore, fastcore, thrashcore, mathcore, slugecore, jazzcore, noisecore, posicore, grindcore, powervioence, crustcore,.. anyways 90's metalcore was not nor considered themselves metal bands. it was a sub-genre within the hardcore punk scene. when metalcore bands started having clean vocals mixed with that 'at-the-gates-core' sound i began to become disinterested in hardcore in general. i wonder how 'deathcore' came to be or why its named so because the bands are neither death metal nor hardcore.
I stopped paying attention to hardcore when they all became lame wanna be metal bands in the 90s. Some of the metallic stuff is good. At some point, it stopped being hardcore and became a bad attempt at metal by hardcore kids.
Queercore too before it came to be what this crap is today with the work agenda
@@dinkins335 i think the 90's were the golden era of hardcore. [93-01] starting with earth crisis firestorm demo and ending with candiria's 300% density. it was when hardcore was at its most diverse musically and its most politically driven era as well. converge, bane, Dillinger escape plan, ignite, strife, los crudos all sounded different but still toured together and called themselves hardcore bands. i came to realize, the one thing that hardcore bands from the 80-90's had in common was the drummers approach to playing. from minor threat to seige, and dillinger ect. the drums had a organic flow to thier playing style and not needing to follow conventional rules. while, metal is opposite lt has a 'mechanical' like approach to their playing style. its much easier for me to play what i mean than it is for me to explain with words.
@xdrezcorex I prefer 80s - early 90s hardcore.

The difference in metalcore and deathcore is or has been GENERALLY...metalcore has screaming/growling and clean vocals... deathcore has no clean vocals... deathcore they say is death metal with the slow breakdown parts (I don't agree) but other than that the only difference is metalcore has clean vocals
The no clean vocals in Deathcore isn't even true anymore... I listened to Whitechapel the biggest Deathcore band the other day and the guy started doing wimpy fucking emotional clean vocals, IN DEATHCORE! So that just goes to show even they are wimping it down nowadays, because I was actually able to stand their music in their very first few albums, it was just another "I don't need this cause it's just ok and that's it" but fuckin' clean vocals that don't even fit the song you're doing? Holy shit that was bad!
@3261341 well damn I didn't know that lol but that's sad to hear I'm not a wc fan but some deathcore isn't terrible but I cant deal with the clean vocals shit...that doesn't surprise me they have even started it is deathcore guess it was just a matter of time lol... appreciate the info though 🤘
@@gatecreepin15 The thing for me right is I don't even hate clean vocals, not even in heavier subgenres of Metal, but much like everything music, you have to make it *work* like for example Vektor's Recharging The Void in my opinion is the best example of this. They threw an entire clean vocal part into that song, but it worked, because they didn't throw it in there right after a fucking Slamming breakdown or some dumb shit like that y'know? So yeah sad to see these bands trying to be different but just ending up sounding even more stupid instead.
There’s a ton of metalcore with no cleans

I am familiar with 2008-2010 metalcore canoes like when I was in highschool. When I checked out modern metal it is even WORSE then stuff canoes at my school liked. Some of the 2000s metalcore bands were not THAT bad. From your description you were probably mostly listening to metal after 2010. The drums and guitars sound like ass now, the riffs suck, the vocals suck and solos are rare.
Well yeah, back when I grew up people called Trivium and All That Remains Metalcore, but compared to what Metalcore is TODAY that might as well be Thrash Metal at this point.
cause those bands I actually do really like, but that's because they have guitar shredding and it's not super reliant on the chug a lug breakdowns, it just really comes off to me like they want to be "Epic sounding" Modern Heavy Metal, so basically a more Power Metal influenced type of Heavy Metal with some core here and there.
I'm the same age as you guys and know what you're saying. Stuff was lame then but the new stuff is 100x gayer \m/
@@SuicidalGrind I remember Trivium and All that Remains having nice sounding guitars and drums. polished but not completely digital. I remember them having decent songs and riffs. As well as solos. To me modern metal refers to those Mesuggah influenced bands who don't have any good riffs. I would definitely rather listen to 2000s metalcore then modern metal. I would rather listen to the 80s stuff and death/black but while listening to 2000s metalcore I can still enjoy it and when I listened to it online I occasionally tapped my foot. Modern metal bands on the other hand make music that had little redeaming qualities and if anything they are stopping young people from being metalheads because many zoomers will here these bands instead of good gateway bands like Sabbath, Maiden, Priest, Slayer ect.

It's like one of my younger friends, also always sending me the core stuff, and all their lyrics is just complaining how life sucks and stuff like that is really no real metal band has lyrics like that winy stuff, and yea the vocals are not tough, maybe like the old school metal core from mid to late 90s when they had no clean vocals back then, that was more acceptable than the new core shit
Fear factory isnt metal damn
I'm curious as to which Fear Factory songs J-dawg was exposed to.
Fear Factory was literally my gateway into heavy music.
@@Chaz4543 Same for me. I had a friend who owned the Mortal Kombat soundtrack and of course it had Fear Factory on it.
@@Poser_Metal_Records not sure, wasn't agreeing with him either, sure by no means should they be classified as death metal or extreme metal but to say there not metal at all that just doesn't seem right. Be like saying Sepultura Arise wasnt metal or Chaos AD. Which were my gateway albums as well as Demanufactured
@@robertkenneth8227 Their first album was death metal. After that they switched to industrial.
Core 🤮
Lumping any kind of ''core'' music into Death Metal is like forced diversity, it never works..
The vocals on Suicide Silence - The Cleansing sound similar to the vocals on Exhumed - Gore Metal. . . Don't crucify me for saying it please lol, but both great albums!
Usually it's not the vocals that are 100% the problem but the stripped down songwriting, cause when you're playing caveman riffs like that with that super clean production it just becomes absolutely boring, it's gotta be mixed like a 90's Death Metal demo.
Okay what the hell is this that sounded not at all like the Gore Metal I listened to.
That release people like to believe is a good when it isn’t. It’s basically watered down Suffocation for people who don’t like Suffocation. That’s why it’s terrible.
I'm telling J-Dawg to get the cross ready for you brah brah 😆 🤣 , , , lol just busting balls man idk the reference your making but I've heard suicide silence tracks here and there throughout the years and I don't wanna know. Later dude and have a good weekend.
I just think the vocals from the cleansing sound similar to gore Metal. Not the instruments!
The people that shit on deathcore as "twinkcore" and gatekeep over the most cringy "brutal slamming grind gore death" are just sad. I love death metal, everything from Morbid Angel to Cryptopsy but deathcore has been kicking death metal's ass for the last decade. Both in terms of creativity and popularity FOR A REASON the genre had gotten stale and deathcore bands breathed new life into it and is bringing new people into extreme metal all the time. One small example, there are damn few death metal bands that can do what Lorna Shore and Slaughter to Prevail have been doing with vocals alone. Granted there are plenty of trash deathcore bands but there are equal numbers of fantastic bands if y'all would give it a chance.
Lmao amazing troll post. Almost got me.
