@@edwardbazydlo5896 Nope, the reason it was reversed was purely due to it's length and the setback mounting of the 427. There was still a driveshaft, though it was a very short one - maybe 3 feet. The Cheetah was the racer with no drive shaft at all.
Yes, the 289 was better handling for sure, and more predictable under power. That would be my choice, but it would need the 4 weber carb setup and close to 400 hp for the best thrills!

He’s wrong about the gearshift lever. If you notice where it comes through the floor, it’s back about where he is sitting. The reason why they used forward slanted gearshift levers was for that purpose. The driver sat so far forward and the transmission sat so far back. They used an off-the-shelf shifter in the original and just turned it around.

The reversed gear lever was used because in the 60's the only transmission strong enough to take the engine power was from the Ford Galaxy which had a long transmission tail stock and the gear lever faced backwards....... too far backwards when fitted in the 427. Did you know that almost all 427 street Cobras had 428 hydraulic valve engines that were less powerful than the 427? Even though the fender badge and valve cover insignias said 427, it was really a 428. The 427 was an expensive engine and Shelby didn't want to over price the Cobra anymore than it already was over the Corvette. All of the racing 427 Cobras were the real thing, and if an owner of a 428 street Cobra found out and complained to Shelby, he set him up with the real 427! A lot of guys are unaware of this "fun fact" as they are called.

IRS is the way to go IMHO with this. the most time consuming part i would say is readying the manual cause youre gonna wanna go through it at least a dozen times, then go through it as you work, the aluminum panels go on rather easily, its all just a bunch of drilling and riveting with some silicone sealant if you go to my about page on my channel and email me i can go further in depth with you and possible put you in contact with my boss, he is able to get good deals on things like vintage air AC/heater systems and Willwood brake kits as he is an official dealer for both
The shifter itself faces forward because it's a ford part from a full size Ford that had to reversed to be useable in the 427 cobra, which it still retains the reverse lockout for the Ford top loader transmission...
So it puts out 100 more horses and people can put whatever transmission and engine they want? This isn't a 1965 Shelby Cobra. This is a 2019 Cobra Reproduction
It's a Shelby American CSX 6000 continuation Cobra built under license for Shelby American by Hi-Tech in South Africa. Superformance is the distrubutor. I've NEVER SEEN a CSX600without a 427 side oiler or a Carroll Shelby 427 side oiler engine. Most have Ford Top Loaders. These cars are entered into the Shelby Registry. You aren't going to finf a 350 Chevy or a Hydra-Matic in a CSX6000. Superformance also distributes the Hi-Tech built MkIII Roadster, a replica Cobra built under license. It's much cheaper. People install Coyotes and Tremecs in Superformance MkIIIs.
Let's understand, kids, it not only killed Lambos, which are luxury cars with the ability to go fast, but Cobras killed Ferraris, which were racing cars first and foremost. And Cobra did it with utter dominance in the mid through late sixties.
I used to build these for a different company out where I live and we built a dozens of these for Shebly American out in Vegas, these were super fun to build I miss building these.

@@edwardbazydlo5896 Nope, the reason it was reversed was purely due to it's length and the setback mounting of the 427. There was still a driveshaft, though it was a very short one - maybe 3 feet. The Cheetah was the racer with no drive shaft at all.
Best sounding car you have had on this channel to date!
The 289 version is still the cobra with the racing history and accomplishments. Even some of the best racers felt the 289 was the better car.
Yes, the 289 was better handling for sure, and more predictable under power. That would be my choice, but it would need the 4 weber carb setup and close to 400 hp for the best thrills!
The moment when he stopped for the view and the camera was shaking while the car was idling 😍😍😍
“Just 160,000”
Not including an engine and transmission
Factory5 blows this out of the water .... 20 k
Fantastic classic car, great review. Hope you can do a GT40 sometime. Thanks.
@JV Performance N20/N26/N55 it still is considered a classic car
@@evanthomas9656 Id wouldnt consider it a classic its a reproduction model so i call the reproduction models psuedo classic car.
@F25 X3 still has the original engine
@BMW F25 X3 R Spec Did you even watch the vid? He literally said it is worth 160K in full and is an officially licensed continuation car. But then again, you only caring about a Cobra's value shows what kind of person you are and I can happily deduct that this car isn't meant for you.
@BMW F25 X3 R Spec Wow you didn’t read my comment properly either... It is a licensed continuation car, do you understand this?
He’s wrong about the gearshift lever. If you notice where it comes through the floor, it’s back about where he is sitting. The reason why they used forward slanted gearshift levers was for that purpose. The driver sat so far forward and the transmission sat so far back. They used an off-the-shelf shifter in the original and just turned it around.
I definitely think you should get some old school muscle! You show a different sense of enjoyment compared to the supercars! Great video!
Agreed. It would generate a lot of new content and attract a different audience as well.
He definitely should have some muscle in his garage
Them classics are sloowww, better get the new gems because they damn put up a fight.
@@tony_5156 old American cars are focused on engine size and noise not speed
The MOST expensive car ever sold at the "Barrett - Jackson" Auction was Carol Shelby's Cobra.
@OctoMan PC's - Still, way below the highest price paid at auction for an American car - $22,000,000 in 2018 for a 1935 Duesenberg SSJ - one of only two built, at Gooding & Co Pebble Beach Auction. It remains the highest price for any American car sold at auction.
@@Loulovesspeed nah, NART Ferrari. 23 mill
@@stoveguy2133 As I said, but you evidently missed, the highest price at auction for an AMERICAN car is the '35 SSJ Duesenberg once owned by the great actor, Gary Cooper. Powered by a 420 cu. in. DOHC, 32 valve carbureted and supercharged straight 8, it put out 400 HP. It was the fastest pre WWII production road car in the world. It would outrun an Aston Martin DB5 and a Mercedes Gullwing, which were made 20 years later! It also could reach 60 mph quicker than a late 70s Ferrari 308 GTB. One of 2 built, the other one was loaned to another world famous actor, Clark Gable by Duesenberg. Its top speed was somewhere between 135 and 140 mph. No other road car on the planet could come even close to that, and it only had a 3 speed standard trans! Eat your heart out Mercedes Benz! Lol

📛🤔 I don't know dude....... There MUST be a reason we don't see ANY 1976 - 1978 AMC Pacers for sale at Mecum or Barrett-Jackson...... It's MY theory that they don't even try to sell AMC Pacers, because due to their ultra-coolness, they'd just be too damn expensive for ANYONE to afford!
👉 Now, imagine the riots that would occur at Barrett-Jackson if they were to dare putting the most sought after performance car ever(a 1976 AMC Matador) up for auction, and only 1 person could walk away with it..... The world's top auto collectors would be fighting each other with knives and bats to get hold of it!! 😵😖😠
where can i find that pics?
Built one of these 16 years ago while working at a ford dealer body shop, the owner still has it, its an awesome car although i never got to drive it.

It still blows my mind they fit a 7 LITER V8 in that little car
They must have used a shoehorn to squeeze it in.
About the same size as a Miata
This is definitely one of my dream cars
Sadly its very hard to find an original but there are a lot of people that do replica bodies for cheap
That’s been my dream car since I saw it for the first time when I was six
Sweet car. I'm old enough to remember the original. Seeing them cruise through the drive-ins. I was always jealous.
Has to be one of the best sounding cars I’ve heard on VV!
FINALLY YOU MADE A VIDEO OF MY FAVORITE AND ALSO MY DREAM CAR!!!! 😭🤘
DUDE THATS ALSO MY DREAM CARRRRR!!!!!
The most beautiful V8 sound of all, in my opinion!
It's one of those cars that can get you into trouble in no time at all - And I love it for it ! 😁
The greatest roadster ever made, I live in Vegas and they have real ones for sale at the Shelby Museum
FRFR how much probably 1-2 million im guessing
Finally a youtuber acknowledges the classics. Most of them are all over modern super cars and thats it
3:22 FUN FACT! There are several professional builders of Factory Five replicas that can build you the same car and save you about $100,000. The Factory Five will also handle better and stop better. The main drawback is you won’t have an “official continuation Cobra" and you won’t have your chassis number in the Shelby Registry.
That body difference isn't noticeable till a real one pulls up then it is obvious. Also at the end of the day the resale value does mean something. And I just feel like in my opinion I would want one as true to form as possible (modern breaks would be nice though) and if I had one of those built everything I said I had a cobra there would be that little voice in the back of my head saying "not exactly buddy"
@@TheJohnnyf10 Comparing all replicas, I actually notice how the car sits off the ground more than body-style differences. For example, one Cobra replica has a long wheelbase and it does not look right to me. I have a keen eye though - I plan car club events for Cobras and Cobra replicas so I see these all the time. At the end of the day, I love all Cobras, and it's interesting to me how/why each owner chose their Cobra.
I only agree as long as you pick the FF with the IRS...
@@BradThePitts and at the end of the day that how and why makes every bit of difference whether it be price or a certain engine they just needed in it. Like I said for me I'd want it as original as possible but I wanna be able to stop good lol
@@hanslubas My solid-axle FFR with aftermarket 5-link corners harder than my first FFR with IRS, although the breakaway point comes more abruptly. Tires were the same, coilovers were not, so it might not be apples to apples comparison. One thing is for sure, I'm not busting axles at the dragstrip like I did with IRS!
You should do a review on a 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona or a 1970 Plymouth Superbird. So real iconic race cars of their time.
Love this car. It has been my dream car for as long as I can remember. I will have one someday. The only thing I would have to change is the seats. The original low height on the back of the seat isn’t gonna work with my back issues. I would keep with the same look but need higher back. Man I love that car...
Thank you a car youtuber that shows America muscle
In a British car, nonetheless
Nice to see you smiling at what all old muscle cars can deliver. That's why you have a relationship with these cars
Forget Superformance right here in Massachusetts we have a little company called factory 5 racing. They make incredible Cobra kits with an array of choices for engine, transmission, suspension etc.
hpkntnw I want to build one but you can buy a continuation cobra from superformance. And it’s classified as a Shelby Cobra not a kit car.
Superformance cars are a tad better
@@gt1r The are much more than a tad better. Factory is fine if you want to build your own. If you want a top notch factory built car, its Superformance or Backdraft.
Fred Gasior agreed. Just wanted to put it nicely
Fred Gasior -agreed
This is primal emotion, driving even casually in a no frills cobra. There is nothing comparable
Still my Favorite car of all time 🙌🔥
Same!
The reversed gear lever was used because in the 60's the only transmission strong enough to take the engine power was from the Ford Galaxy which had a long transmission tail stock and the gear lever faced backwards....... too far backwards when fitted in the 427. So they just turned it around to face forwards which, in turn , worked out just right in position for the driver.

In my opinion, the best car EVER made
Stephen Cooper . You have that right!
Yes a Shelby Cobra 427 1965! It has an awesome V8!
Awesome Cobra, Your description is right on, exactly... I have owned a Kit Cobra for 15 years...Greatest Car Ever!!
This is one of my favorite classics of all time. Love this thing 👍 thanks for sharing!
This is the car that brought me to America 42 years ago in 1978. I'm a Teslarati now, but still lust for this car.
fun fact, i actually build these cars where i work, the company name that makes these is factory 5, and honestly my boss only charges roughly 50-60k for one of these, so i would say we are superior for pricing
Been a fan of factory 5 since they started
Dude I love factory five. How hard are the kits to build?
@@jakekurland3568 surprised i didnt get this notification, sorry about the wait. in what i focus on its not that har, literally a lot of sanding, filling, sanding, filling, and sanding for the body work. engine and trans basically fall into place and you only have a 5 or 6 inch drive shaft. IRS is the way to go IMHO with this. the most time consuming part i would say is readying the manual cause youre gonna wanna go through it at least a dozen times, then go through it as you work, the aluminum panels go on rather easily, its all just a bunch of drilling and riveting with some silicone sealant if you go to my about page on my channel and email me i can go further in depth with you and possible put you in contact with my boss, he is able to get good deals on things like vintage air AC/heater systems and Willwood brake kits as he is an official dealer for both
@@calebb5106 can you tell me about the 818? What happened to the ecoboost version?
That car was actually built by Superformance.
The shifter itself faces forward because it's a ford part from a full size Ford that had to reversed to be useable in the 427 cobra, which it still retains the reverse lockout for the Ford top loader transmission...
Dude you litterly reviewed my dream car
Pulls over to see the amazing view, spends the entire time looking around at the inside of the car. To be fair, that's an amazing view...
So it puts out 100 more horses and people can put whatever transmission and engine they want? This isn't a 1965 Shelby Cobra. This is a 2019 Cobra Reproduction
I wondered about that going into the video, but as soon as I saw him leaning on it, I knew it was a kit.
I would be very happy with that car!
427 Cobra is an axe. Crude, but effective.
I wouldn’t call it crude, compared to other early 60s race cars lol
