Absolutely great idea for a video, Helen!! 👍🏻 For many people, the focus of a planner is functionally rather than decoration and aesthetic, but I think that fact often gets lost under the mountains of fancy spreads and accessories and stationery ‘must-haves’ commonly seen on social platforms, to the point of deterring people from using planners and notebooks, or even starting at all. Of course there’s nothing wrong with being artistic in these tools, but it’s faaaaar from being a requirement. I love when people focus on productivity, wellness, reflection, and documentation in planners and notebooks first, rather than just prettiness which then ends up not serving a purpose or being counterproductive. It’s wonderful to see this message from an artist who runs a sticker shop and has a great love of beautiful stationery! 👏🏻

I struggled a lot with wanting things to be pretty over functional as a teen, so it threw me off from journaling at all admittedly. I grew out of it, learned more resilience but it really is wild how nonfunctional (at least in my POV) some planners/journals are.
This is how I always plan - pen and a toning highlighter, but without the doodles! I can't cope with lots of colour, stickers etc etc (even colour-coding is too distracting for my brain) so to see someone like yourself just using pens is quite refreshing. And it's okay to not be OK. ❤️

I also had challenging week and it is based from a coworker who bullies to control our department and management does nothing about it. It through off my week and all my journaling. I hope the new week will be better for you.

My teen got into trouble at school and this week has been horrible. That cloud simply resonated with me. I'm going to use one and put a grumpy/sad face in it. I keep praying next week will be better. I like looking at all-pen spreads occasionally. Sometimes I find it more interesting to see how people use different colors, or in this case, greyscale & doodles, to denote different things.

Thought I'd share something about your rough week where things suddenly went from high to low without any major stressors. Happens to me, too (well, all of us LOL) and I found that eating mixed nuts and drinking raw cacao really helps me. Plus they taste great! It's because my cortisol levels impact my gut-brain axis and my serotonin levels drop in my brain. Or something like that. Magnesium and potassium, too -- boosted by the nuts. Enough. You're brilliant, Helen -- go research cacao, gut biome, cortisol and diet, etc. Maybe it sounds foolish -- but it's an easy fix and it really helps me. Maybe it will help you too!
This was a fantastic video! I've been so wrapped up in trying to use stickers and making it look fancy, that I forgot that you don't need all that, and it can just be pen and some doodles! Thank you so much, and I hope this next week is better for you. I've been on the struggle bus, and my mental health has not been good as I've been laid up for a month with a back injury. I've been shuffled around to several doctors, and none can give me straight answers, and it's a different thing each time.

I am so happy your taking it slower and having rest days it's great to see. I am sort of new to your channel and when I watched your planning vlogs . I used to get so overwhelmed and sometimes even cried because you're Workload it's like 10 people doing 1 job I really felt sorry 😞 like why can't she take a break. I absolutely love this spread! I’m definitely getting a Hobonochj next year - They’re very expensive in Europe, so I couldn’t convince myself to splurge because I usually don’t commit to my journals. However, this year I’ve been supper good journaling every day, and it has helped me a lot with keeping organised. Sadly though, my Moleskine journal’s paper is super thin and the Futenoske pens bleed through making doodling difficult.

No judgement either way. This just gives me some ideas for how I can turn my evening journaling time into sort of a memory plan.
I set my alarm at 5:30 and wake up at 3.. it really drains the mind and body. For me, unconscious stress seems to be the cause. If that is the case with you, I hope you resolve whatever is troubling you soon..!
Where did your friend get the soft pencil board she gifted you? Been looking everywhere - ordered a few but none were soft. Sorry to hear you struggle sometimes - but it is brave that you share it!
Not to be an annoying advice giver… but… I wonder if you’ve ever tried sleeping 8+ hours per night. It should drastically help you. And if you need medication to sleep, that’s ok too! I take gabapentin to sleep and it’s made such a difference for my mood stability day to day 💕
Hi Helen! I was wondering- do you ever feel pressure to decorate your planner because of owning a stationery business and feeling like you need to showcase your designs online? I'm currently taking magnesium an hour before bed! It's not helping me sleep more, but sleep better. I definitely need to tackle the more part >.

I've set my sleep to make sure i sleep at least 8 hours a day if i sleep more than 8 hours I feel sick, drowsy, and depressed.

She plans on different days, sometimes you can see the change in her outfit. The cuts in the videos are when she skips to a new day.
