The full Japanese theatrical trailer for Toho's 1959 sci-fi classic: "Uchu Daisenso" translated as "Great War In Space". We know it as "Battle in Outer Space".
This trailer is available on the Japanese DVD release. Hopefully, we'll see a US release of the film on DVD from TriStar/Columbia Home Video, since Sony owns the rights to this, THE H-MAN (1958) and MOTHRA (1961).
You just KNOW Stanley Kubrick and George Lucas watched this one, too, and loved it as much as we do! Maybe the G-Fest will show a decent SCOPE print some day... where else could we see it on the Big Screen?
@CCZilla Oh cuz i just bought this along with Mothra and H-Man and I liked The mysterians alot and I never knew that there was a sequel for mysterians.
Star Wars was definitely partially inspired by this film. Interestingly enough, not too long after Star Wars came out in Japan, the studio that made this film made a Star Wars knockoff called The War In Space, which is a loose continuation of this. Unfortunately, The War In Space was awful and the film was not very successful.
@egdeltur666 Yep, Varan wasn't very successful, even in Japan. I think it got a better reception in America, of which the film was initially made exclusively for in the first place. If you look at the trailer for Varan, it also says "from the makers of Godzilla, Rodan, and The Mysterians!" as well.
@TravaUser Man, if I understood what you said, then I can safely say that if all "full grown childs" like you have terrible grammar...then I'd much rather stay a baby. :)
I love model special effects in classic movies, much better than cgi crap today
Sony is currently working on a DVD box-set for release in the USA in 2009 which includes this, The H-Man, Mothra, and Rebirth of Mothra 3.

Same here. I came close to tuning out several times trying to watch Battle in Outer Space. The Mysterians is far better.
