A lot of people's impression going into this game is that it's in "ancient Sinnoh" when it's more like Meiji Restoration era Sinnoh (so like 1870-90) Hence the electricity and cameras and stuff. Also lines up well since the Japanese empire started settling and modernizing Hokkaido at that time.
Wait... 1890's?
As in... NINTENDO-STARTING YEARS 1890?!
Q nic3 detail is rhat there is reference to Gallarian Weazing, which cane to be because of Gallar's industrial revolution
It kind of reminded me of the demon slayer anime, where at first you think it is longer ago, but then all of a sudden the big cities have electricity and trains and industry.
I think a lot of people mix up „ancient“ and „feudal“ in this context, not realising that the time period that is considered feudal in Japan ended a loooot later than the Middle Ages in Europe
and coincidentally that puts it in a similar time frame to another game ive been having fun with, on the switch, great ace attorney! so its not super old, but it is like sherlock holmes olden days old. tail end of the peak of the british empire and such, which is probably why in the english translation of this the professor is talking in a british manner of the time, its what the japanese people would be familiar with.
I'm glad someone else noticed the mystery dungeon vibes, maybe that just comes with it being a story driven game? There's definitely some *very* mystery dungeon things in this game though that I love
Space Time distortions remind me of Monster Houses
lol poppt1 stopped playing pokemon games but picked up this game and said the same thing
i dont understand the Mystery dungeon vibes, yet i played all games of this spin-off
It may just be me, but I get some MH vibes too.
Red u can talk?😐
This game has a lot of really cool small touches that just make everything better. The nods to how dangerous a Pokemon really can be, the fact that your character will actually get wet when it starts raining, and will shiver or try to wipe water off their sleeves in an idle animation, little references to minor characters in DPP... I was legitimately shocked when I saw a character that looked just like Mira, especially considering Mira was an entirely optional partner trainer in Wayward Cave
“I bestow upon thee this Arc Phone and thy mission: seek out all Pokemon.”
New phone who dis!?
You have achieved *komedy*
I really hope this becomes a let’s play series with wolfey just running around and having fun xD
he said his twitch channel to watch him play legends Arceus
And eventually nuzlocke rules will be placed for this game
@@Yami_Industries That would be brutal, the battle mechanics allow for mons to attack twice in a single turn and so far it feels like anything could OHKO your mon unexpectedly
I'm not usually a sucker for voice acting, but not having it here really grates me for some reason. Just feels like there is huge dead spots of sound while reading text.
I felt the same way, but as far as I know there aren't any mainline pokemon games with voiced dialogue so at least it's par for the course.
@@CloudCollapse they gave voice acting to Pokken but not anything else
@@CloudCollapse pokemon snap had *some* voice acting.
Same. Voice acting and lack of bgm is the only things I don’t like about this game
Even if the voice acting consisted of grunts and breathing heavy, it'd still be better than nothing
I tried to avoid everything I could before getting the game but couldnt resist to watch your reaction to the gameee
NOW IM MORE EXCITEDDDD Looks so funnn
Reactions to the start of this game are always fun to me.
I too am getting over the lack of voice acting. It's a massive money saver not having to pay actors to record dialogue... in 10 (or so) languages. But we're in 2022, give us some voice lines! ... Besides that, loving the game so far.
This is a billion dollar company...sure the game is addictive ,the game would be amazing in 2009-2012 era but its the year 2022. Comparing with games that came after 2015 its underwhelming. If it was a indie studio we could give them a pass
Even an indie game like Hollow Knight uses cute, memorable sounds that are unique to each character, the least Pokémon can do is that, the expectation should be that they should be able to handle voice acting. Every other game is able to record that many languages in voice acting, even a game that is both story heavy and combat heavy like god of war. This is an industry standard. It really shouldn’t matter if the game is good enough to overlook it.
Well with this being such a radical change from the Pokémon formula, I can understand them wanting to minimize budget like that with it not being as guaranteed a success, and hopefully future games will have voice acting, then again I hoped the next game would have voice acting when Sword and Shield came out
*cough* fire emblem three houses *cough*
@@ankitsaikumar6866 Though the games aren't making the most money, so they probably just invest like half of what they're earning for the games which isn't a lot compared to the huge numbers they make from selling merchandise
"Where do babies come from"

I love that Wolfe is playing with zero knowledge of even the starter evolutions. I hope future episodes r posted too in case I miss stream..
I’m excited for the type combination ranking video! I’d also like to see Wolfey create a new type and how he’d implement it competitively and thematically.
I think it's funny how he always tries to include world champion in the title of his videos. I know it's for the RUclips algorithm but I just imagine him at home talking to himself in the third person.
Wolfey: The world champion is hungry.
Wolfey: Perhaps the world champion will have some lunch
19:07 this is my favorite dialogue at the start 😅 never received death threats before in a Pokémon game.
Akari has some real sass to her without ever being mean. It’s a nice change of pace for Pokémon.
I appreciate that every single dedicated fan's observation from the heavy dose of Mystery Dungeon nostalgia vibes all the way to noticing them actually mention Pokemon shrinking into the ball is apparent and noted each time I have witnessed this since my no-spoiler start a couple hours ago
And now the fact that I questioned the legitimacy of tape-stache
Thanks for the early review/reaction! Appreciate the dedication to the craft~ ❤
It's something I'm sure most people will miss, but as a plant fanatic I can tell they actually modelled most of, if not all of, the plants and trees in this game after real world plants. It brings me a lot of joy to see that level of detail.
Irl Lorax
My opinion on voice acting is that.
I legitimately didn't realise dark souls had it for my first playthrough because i skipped through/read all the text too fast to hear it. I don't need characters to read subtitles to me like im 7, i got it, i can manage. But i think I'm in the minority for that one.
i definitely agree w the part about reading it faster than they read it. but after a while, hearing the same music along with the little ding of skipping dialogue gets annoying, id at least rather it be voice lines that get cut off that i can choose to hear than not even have the option. idk, i know where you’re coming from though
I think if they voice acted cutscenes then left the bull of the dialogue as is then it'd be a good blend. That said I can always take or leave voice acting in games
Its stranger that Arceus is in your DMs constantly
Okay, this game looks like it has a ton of charm and character. Definitely appreciate the first impressions.
The lack of voice acting (not even full voice acting but at least some elements) feels like a missed opportunity.
game is amazing at first but once youre 30+ hours in you start to ask yourself, am i going to do anything new or get any rewards for anything? end up using only jet balls and sneaking cause battling is trash watered down
God literally sliding into your DM's for this game
Would love to see a full casual run through!
Edit: NEVERMIND YOU CALLED MY SWEET BOY TYPHLOSION LAME AS HECC

this game gives me mystery dungeon, botw, and monster hunter vibe all at once. it is awesome. the menu sound and soundscape and movement is closer to botw and mario oddesy (the rendering and graphics too)
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Pretty sure when you throw a pokeball it makes a Link sound.
I think there are nice references to mystery dungeon in this game. I noticed when you wake up after the first night Akari (I picked boy so not sure if it’s different if you pick a girl) says “let’s give it our all” which is exactly what they say in pmd2 every morning at the guild. Maybe I’m being slightly optimistic but they could be hinting at a pmd2 remaster?
@@BadFiend So I'm not the only one who thought that sounded like Link. I think it's there for dodging too.
the rendering is atrocious. I don't know how gamefreak can make a game run and look worse than BotW
Oshwatt is so crazy lmao, it learns swords dance at like level 10 in this game.
So from what I’ve seen in the first five minutes, God becomes my iPhone and teleports me back in time?

The game title kinda gives off a new series thing
“Pokemon Legends: Arceus”
That sounds like eventually its gonna have like Pokemon Legends: Xerneas or something like that
Pokémon Legends: Bidoof when
@@mustabindawind after Pokemon Legends: Shuckle of course
Yasss i love your idea of Pokemon legends xerneas
Pokemon Legends: Pikachu coming this fall
Keeping with the Mythical theme, I'd like to see these:

Pokemon Legends: Celebi for Johto
Pokemon Legends: Jirachi for Hoenn
Pokemon Legends: Victini for Unova
Pokemon Legends: Hoopa for Kalos
Pokemon Legends: Marshadow for Alola
Pokemon Legends: Zarude for Galar
Good to see that the first battle vs Togepi is in fact winnable. I got crit TWICE in that fight and obv lost because of that lol
Nice that they canonically name your age as 15. The common dialogue would have you think every Pokemon protag is 10, but I doubt a single one has been supposed to be that young.
Gen 1 the MC was 10. Nate and Rosa were 16. Brendan and May were 12, I think.
@@seraphimprince In Gen 1, Red and Blue were actually 11. The whole ten years old thing is just a misconception people got from Ash being 10 in the anime

The energy in the music during long text cutscenes definitely helped keep my interest. 9/10 music bops.

very excited to get to know your thoughts!
Typhlosion being fire+ghost type is easily my pick
That 60 bp stab signature ghost type move(forgot it's name tbh) is definitely worth it with specs in 6v6ss
Inflicting burn and dealing double damage can wreck bulky water types like pex (this move's a tad weaker hex but better with that burn utility )
Fire+Ghost is already an amazing typing both offensively and defensively
Btw bud didn't u take part in the limitless vgc kickoffs tour??

Imo you should make the rest of the playthrough into some best-of highlights, and then talk about how the new mons in this game could affect the sword and shield meta, and possibly a dynamax-less gen 9
Your my favorite content creator !❤️❤️❤️
You've handled the news/rumors to the game the same way I did. It's the only way I feel like I can get some enjoyment out of new games lately.
I couldn't help myself and had to watch this lol
I dodged spoilers so well for this game. I avoided anything that wasn't the cover art (even had my friend do the store navigation for my preorder) and didnt go on socials until after I beat the story. It was so good!
Am excited for post fame, after I get home from work

Lmao Wolfey I love the Dunkey reference with the trialing mission 😂
“Assassins creed is a good franchise”
Ight wolfey, I gotta suggest a video idea lol. I would like to hear you talk about the new Pokémon forms and their possible competitive viability looking at their stats and abilities. Additionally a video on the new battle mechanics like status conditions, attack sequence, and strong/ agile style in competitive
I'm very interested to see your take on the new battle system and new pokemon. I feel the new system has strengths and weaknesses (no longer being able to read/predict the opponent's move/switch is a huge weakness, but the move ordering with Strong and Agile styles seems interesting), but hearing your opinion will be interesting!
I think that the Strong/Agile Style could be brewed to be a standalone core mechanic (instead of Megas/Dynamax).
Something as simple as letting you act twice if the first move of the turn is Agile (the second time with lesser priority, where you pick the second move together with the first) but at the cost of dealing half damage and losing your next turn but dealing double the damage if the move is Strong can be a basic framework over whom you could improve iteratively until you've got something balanced to go by.
@@Alessandro-vv2fh Whilst I do agree that it would make a really interesting mechanic, I think that two moves in a turn is probably not the way to do it. That's what make mega Kangaskhan so overwhelming. Power Up Punch being effectively a 60 base power Swords Dance and every attack breaking through Focus Sash was just insane. Giving any Pokemon the ability to do something like that wouldn't be good for the game.
I think that having it give one turn stat buffs would be interesting. Maybe each trainer has a limited number (3?) of 'Style Scrolls', which they can use at any point in the battle. What about if Strong Style gives +20% attack/sp. attack, -20% speed, and Agile Style gives +20% speed, -20% attack/sp. attack. You could even make it a triangle and have Strong Style give +20% attack/sp. attack, -20% speed, Agile Style give +20% speed, -20% defence/sp. defence, and then have an Enduring Style which gives +20% defence/sp.defence, -20% attack/sp. attack.
@@the_twig131 Mega Kangaskhan was still nerfed to the ground once Family Bond was balanced up in further games AND Mega Kangaskhan was both the threat and the best answer to said threat, so it became oppressive. By virtue of spreading it out and balancing beforehand by already knowing how this may actually be too strong (since we've already data about a meta where two moves in a turn were dominant), I don't think it would be too big of an issue if executed well. (Both attacks have only 1/3 of original power instead of 1/2? Or you can't make the same two in a row, thus being forced to use less effective moves due to coverage?) Neither of the three styles should be inherently stronger than the other, thus requiring you to choose both the move AND the style on your turn, which is an intriguing idea Legends Arceus introduced.
Again, IF executed well it may work and I see it working well. Things can go wrong in many many ways, but at least it would feel unique and fresh.
For example, a free "Style Scroll" buff, like you suggest, would essentially be the same trite different version of a mega/max (push a button, raise stats, profit) but with a different coat of paint and slightly adjustable bonuses. Add a few unique forms to your concept (if you use the Agile Style with Pikachu, you get Pikachu Agile-Formie, the Strong Style scroll with Charizard makes the CharizarD UlTrA POWER formie etc. etc.) and just see that this won't be anything really new from a mechanical perspective.
The competitive side needs something different, at least, to my opinion. And adding a dimension to your move choice (which is choosing the move and its relative style) could be the fresh change that competitive needs to shake things up.
I think the weirdest thing is the more subtle battle changes. Stat boosts seem to be busted since it raises physically and specially, and moves like Stealth Rocks actually deal damage
Pokemon music bopping as usual, Wolfey

I would've also picked oshawatt because the game is set in an old Japanese kinda setting and samurott will add to the overall vibe of the game...

Definitely a cutscene heavy intro but I guess that’s just the way Pokémon games are and I just have to live with it. But a skip to starter select option would be really nice for additional playthroughs.
Lol @ that Switch line-up screen, as expected from Pokemon world champ. Spotted an Undertale tho, kinda interested to see what other non-Pokemon games Wolfey played~
The name Volo is reference to the DnD book: Volo's guide to monsters.
Im sad so rare people get that
I am playing it and, graphics faults aside, I like it. Filling in Dex pages is a bit grindy, but I am a big fan of the Yakuza games and those are INSANELY grindy. I like the change in the battle mechanic where it is far more dynamic (turn orders and getting jumped by multiple 'mons at once). Primarily I love that is not the formulaic eight-gym-badges Elite-Four Region-Champion.
In battles you can use the ZR button with either a ball or a Pokémon selected to use it seamlessly instead of going to the items and Pokémon screen
Nice 4 am wolfey wideo
Legends Arceus is the successor of Pokémon Ranger with elements of Mystery Dungeon. It's one of the best formulas for spin off game imaginable. If there were more elements of Colosseum/XD, it would be nearly perfect
Yes this was my head cannon on why we can technically be the same person in every Pokémon game even if they exist in multiple universes Arceus is the one that sends us to correct all the timelines so that the evil teams and such don’t destroy everything.
Biggest brain theory I just had, or maybe small brain who knows, but maybe this is the prequel to mystery dungeon. In that game you're turned into a Pokémon and your memory is wiped to save the world, maybe after you've done your job, in the alternate ending you do decide to become human again and then Arceus turns you back, leading to the events of this game. I mean there's MD vibes, I've heard primal dialga and palkia are in this, who are also in MD, you have a natural affinity for catching pokemon because you were a trainer before turning to a Pokémon, but the world wasn't developed enough at that point so when you turned into a pokemon the area was still wild and the others had only ever heard stories of humans, like how the village here is aware of Pokémon but only a few have formed bonds and most people fear Pokémon.
Hey Wolfe, hope you’re doing well and having a great day! 😊
