Linkus, this video came out at the perfect time. I watched ZDI's run earlier and immediately booted a new save to try some of the strats out. Thank you for making this! EDIT: I couldn't figure out the ascend skip, this really is a huge help.
Skipping the final boss door is crucial to running no paraglider since (with personal experience) fighting Colgera without a paraglider and without wing armor is practically impossible. Probs to the speedrunning community for breaking the game so fast.
Ascend wasn't an intended ability it was a debug mechanic that the developer had fun with that they decide to add it to the game. So i guess that is why it is so OP.
I don't why, but I still feel like there's still going to be plenty more to discover in terms of speed strats and movement tech. Of course, I'm not a speedrunner, so I wouldn't know just how optimized this currently is, but if botw showcased anything, it's that there really was a lot more to discover for speedruns than anyone even considered possible. Great run, and good explanation!
5:30 If I remember correctly there is actually even more steward constructs that will give you a battery. There is of course the one that comes to you outside of fuse and the one shown but I beilieve that there are even more that will give you the battery pack

This run is awesome but I can't help but feel like it would be even cooler to see what new tech runners come up with in version 1.1.2, since you can't cheese the game as hard.
Hey linkus! I once learned that if you have a shield that make link ragdoll when he Shield surf, (by attaching an object that pokes out of the shield) when your falling and your nearly by the ground shield surf with that shield to cancel any fall damage.
Hey Linkus, great breakdown! Love seeing how this speedrun got optimized in just a few weeks. In the shrine where you use the ability to rewind time, you said you have to wait for the clock hands to overlap at the end to open the final door. However, I was watching my friend do a casual playthrough, and he used ultrahand to fuse the clock hands together. I feel like this technique would save time as you wouldn't have to wait on any sort of cycle. Have speedrunners tried doing this before?
I feel like a pro now. The way he went up to the ascend shrine (like right next to the icy waterfall) was exactly how I got up there too. If you climb normally without jumping, you can also make it up xD I was to lazy to walk around
5:50 But... I used that way casually. I didn't see any other way up. It's totally doable without any speedrun strats. Not as fast, sure, but not as impossible as Linkus makes it sound, I'd say.
If you can make it up with just jumps, you can make it up normally. Jumps take up more stamina than climbing normally, but they have the trade off of being faster than normal climbing.
I got the battery from that same construct robot on my playthrough as well, I had no idea that was abnormal. I explored that area first and went into the snowy area immediately until I found that dude.
Honestly, kind of hilarious how by the time this video came out, there was already a new Any% World Record set that beats the 59:22 ZDI one that Linkus is reacting to. Samura1man's 58:51 video was posted like 6 hours before this analysis video. Edit: And then SlyZorua posted a 58:02 video like an hour after this analysis, and then a 57:54 video using what looked like the same route as ZDI like 9 hours after this analysis. Wild times for Any%.
To be fair, there were multiple time loss situations in this video, like the failed shield jump in the ultrahand shrine, the missed jump before warp, the missed initial jump to the glider devices, and etc.
It's funny you mentioned doing that much damage to the doof as a casual, because I... did more. Turns out the lightscale trident is really REALLY strong.
Here's something cool a lot of people seem to be sleeping on. The Zonaite bow in this game is the ancient bow from BotW. Holding down the aim makes the shot straighter till it makes a nearly flawlessly straight shot.
Thank you so much for this video Linkus! I just finished the game casually and this explanation of the route and tricks was just perfect for getting into the speedruns of the game!
They should call this HoldHands% because it's a speedrun to see how fast you can hold Zelda's hand. It just so happens to also be the same timer stop as Any%
As much as I love all these early version glitches, I kinda hope the current-version speedrun becomes the dominant category. Partly because it'll be really impractical to ask everyone to maintain an early-version copy of the game (especially once dlc comes out) and partly because the second half of this Speedrun has already gotten a little unfun-looking, focusing more on weird menuing and cheesing as opposed to combat and movement and resource management. This run is really cool for what it is but I hope this isn't what the majority of future runs look like
Have to specify for ya since I've heard everyone say you can only get a few faries, go to the circle ponds on the different sky islands and there will be 3 at each one unless you've already picked them up, I haven't tried duping faries but I ended up with 30 in like 20 minutes
This is the kind of video I've been waiting for. I look forward more to Linkus talking about speedruns than I do about watching other people's speedruns
You know i can see why Nintendo got rid of duplication because how easy it apparently is however they could have left the harder ones in. You know the ones where casuals need to take time to practice a bit and not do it by accident. Though i would actually like to know which of these glitches are still able to be used in the current version, like maybe the one at the beginning to where you skip building that bridge where you dive jump slash dive jump slash or the weapon throw sprint. Or maybe even the being able to get to that one platform when doing ultrahand skip, as even if it is slower it is still probably way faster to do than to get the first shrines normally if Nintendo missed that part when patching the fun parts out
@@heathersmith4042 Personally i think the ones being found are the ones Nintendo intentionally left minus the shock dupe with item stand which is easy to do but you need to finish the Terrytown side quest first. And you need to separate the fused item with the material as well even if you are going for the thrown one But either way all of the ones being found are kinda useless as you can't duplicate Zonai devices or fairies anymore. Like if i can't use them at the start of the game there is no point, what's worse is they did not have to remove the bow method as you needed to time it however they intentionally took that out by making it where you can not drop a bow after dropping one till the arrow fully knocks meaning you can't duplicate
Man Im like halfway through the game and watched this cause I normally dont care about spoilers but I had no idea the end of this was going to be so epic.
Regarding the tutorial shrine order, intending to "explore", I got to the ascend (ice) shrine before even unlocking them. Spent 30min killing two constructs with tree branches and then realized I couldnt even enter the shrine. Was totally worth it.
The funniest thing about totk being utterly broken beyond measure, is that the game wasn't rushed at all. It's just that there is so much stuff in the game that stuff got through the cracks
It is the Nintended path but not the Nintended way, because the dev wants you to climb and not jump like in the vid. Also the dev wants you to loop behind the waterfall to reach that spot, so falling into the water to get there is probably not the Nintended way as well🤔
I love the explanations so much, but I can't help but to think of Miyamoto sitting in a darkroom stroking a hairless cat menacingly as he takes notes on what to patch
i actually grabbed those battery cells at the snow area in the beginning of the game because i explored the entire island before actually meeting rauru at the temple of time lmfao
It still blows my mind that they went to such lengths to shut down speedrunners and then gave everyone a bunch of tools that are obviously going to break the game more than ever before
Oh god I was so looking forward to this. Just playing the game casually I've seen so many tricks and tactics, I just knew speedrunners would break the game in half. This run is gona get so stupid fast in no time!
I remember on a previous video of yours (I think) that was explaining some of the glitches in the game that someone said that this was going to be impossible to do so quickly. Yeah, I wonder what that person feels like right now
5:35 Linkus thought this was Skyward Sword for a second... no no, the islands are near high enough for that. 10:20 Oh... he calls himself out. ok 12:45 and its back
I got it on the snowy mountain too🤝🏼 I suppose normally Link will get them by the lake where three stewards are thinking about what to do with the logs and fan (it's where you get to the zonaite store in the cave
the gsi route is the one I took in my first playthrough, though I did get ultra hand first I went for the snow area next, then flew down to the fuse shrine, then took the caverns, fought the boss, and went back to the ascend shrine to fly back to ToT
If you have two Switchs and a physical copy of the game, you can reset a new game into version 1.0. You can also have two separate game files (a brand new game with version 1.0 and another on the other Switch with your current updated Version 1.2 or higher). First you need to transfer all your save game data (including saves from other games on the switch and cloud data) put onto the Switch you want a more updated version of the game. Then, after moving everything, factory reset the Switch that has no save game data on it. After factory reseting, you have two choices. If you want a Version 1.0 AND a current Version 1.1.2 that you are playing, you need to create a new account/user on that reset Switch. OR if you don't mind losing your current TOTK save to get a Version 1.0, go first to the Switch with your TOTK game save and delete BOTH the Save data on the Switch and in the Cloud. Before moving any save game data, go into your settings and turn off automatic updates. Then, either with your new user account on the reset Switch or your main account, put in the physical TOTK cart. You should see the cart game version is 1.0 when clicking "+" over the title. When you click to play the game, always make sure you click "Start Software" and NEVER the "Download Update" that the cursor automatically puts itself on when you boot up the game. If you can't play the game without the update (this will only happen using the same account), then the Switch downloaded your old Save Cloud data of your old game and you will need to turn off Save Cloud Data and delete the Save data on the Switch you are trying to play version 1.0. Try to start the game again, if still an issue, you need to reset the Switch again and repeat the previous steps. I personally hadn't gotten very far in TOTK and accidentally updated, so I completely reset my game to play on Version 1.0.
6:14 I'm almost certain you can make stamina foods in the great sky island which makes it not necessary to be perfect to get up there. But I did that on my normal playthrough because I couldnt' figure out any other way up there (forgot I could build bridges)

This game is definitely haram lmao you can kill pigs and eat pork + a multitude of other haram actions
@@stan3449 ?? Why is it offensive
@@Drip7914 its also not real
@@Drip7914 so Minecraft is also haram?
Loving the speed run break downs and TOTK coverage, great content as always Linkus!
Samurai new world record uses a way cooler route in my opinion. But this was deff a great run
he's at 58:55 also, speedrunner are amazing!
Great content as always! Love the explanation.
Congratulations!!

Or maybe even the being able to get to that one platform when doing ultrahand skip, as even if it is slower it is still probably way faster to do than to get the first shrines normally if Nintendo missed that part when patching the fun parts out
while i agree with you, there are more duplication glitches being found every day. at some point, nintendo is just going to stop patching them.
@@heathersmith4042 Personally i think the ones being found are the ones Nintendo intentionally left minus the shock dupe with item stand which is easy to do but you need to finish the Terrytown side quest first. And you need to separate the fused item with the material as well even if you are going for the thrown one
But either way all of the ones being found are kinda useless as you can't duplicate Zonai devices or fairies anymore.
I gotta beat the game so I can watch this video! xD
Speedrunners are underrated, the amount of time & patience it takes for best runs is insane, probably shed tears speedrunning Tears of Kingdom
Congratulations!!

Regarding the tutorial shrine order, intending to "explore", I got to the ascend (ice) shrine before even unlocking them. Spent 30min killing two constructs with tree branches and then realized I couldnt even enter the shrine. Was totally worth it.
I’m pretty sure going to Ganondorf normally cost me more time than this whole run 😂
I love how we now live in a world where both a Mario and Zelda speedrun involve picking up a frog on an older version.
Why doesn't link keep his zuggled Diamond halberd for Ganondorf? Shouldn't that be enough damage?
When you stack weapons, it causes memory issues so I'm assuming that triggering the Ganondorf boss fight is impossible.
Tip: if you have arrows then shoot one arrow at both ropes ( 7:00 ) and I believe it’s faster than cutting them with a sword
Lore accurate link be like.
In my opinion you speed runners are amazing. I wish I knew how to do it, but since I don't I'll just enjoy y'all doing it.
Anyone else take 3 hours playing around on the sky island😂
Yes😂
I spent my first day on TOTK just goofing around on the sky island🤪
The funniest thing about totk being utterly broken beyond measure, is that the game wasn't rushed at all. It's just that there is so much stuff in the game that stuff got through the cracks
No game survives first contact
at 5:51, was that not intended? i found that route up the cliff in my casual playthrough lol
It is the Nintended path but not the Nintended way, because the dev wants you to climb and not jump like in the vid.
Also the dev wants you to loop behind the waterfall to reach that spot, so falling into the water to get there is probably not the Nintended way as well🤔
Easily one of the best explained videos I’ve ever seen. U sir deeerve a suB
That’s crazy that someone already beat it under an hour
Congratulations!!

I love the explanations so much, but I can't help but to think of Miyamoto sitting in a darkroom stroking a hairless cat menacingly as he takes notes on what to patch
I acatuakky beat it in 19mins (trust me bro)
Omg new wr crazy
:0
Based 90's speedrunner.
i actually grabbed those battery cells at the snow area in the beginning of the game because i explored the entire island before actually meeting rauru at the temple of time lmfao
Congratulations!!

For the final fight (with dragons) it would have been so cool if the elemental dragons all teamed up with the zelda dragon to kill ganondorf
super well explained and super well edited video! good work linkus:)
It still blows my mind that they went to such lengths to shut down speedrunners and then gave everyone a bunch of tools that are obviously going to break the game more than ever before
It's really not mind-blowing that they fixed glitches from botw
Oh god I was so looking forward to this. Just playing the game casually I've seen so many tricks and tactics, I just knew speedrunners would break the game in half. This run is gona get so stupid fast in no time!
I went for ascend first in my playthrough and I didn't realize a construct that gives you the fuel cell is in two places - that's cool.
Accidentally clicked this video, was enjoying and impressed with the knowledge. And then I saw this is a Linkus video!! Makes sense now! Great stuff!
I remember on a previous video of yours (I think) that was explaining some of the glitches in the game that someone said that this was going to be impossible to do so quickly. Yeah, I wonder what that person feels like right now
I did ascend first and went to fuse on a wing casually and just thought it was what you were supposed to do lol, nothing seemed odd about it
Congratulations!!

I didn’t know why they took away these glitches, I now understand.
5:35 Linkus thought this was Skyward Sword for a second... no no, the islands are near high enough for that.
10:20 Oh... he calls himself out. ok
12:45 and its back
5:14 For my part, I thought that was just where you got the battery pack. Makes sense now that they'd have a couple spots to get it.
Congratulations!!

5:25 idk where you'd normally get the batteries but in my playthrough this is where i got them
I got it on the snowy mountain too🤝🏼
I suppose normally Link will get them by the lake where three stewards are thinking about what to do with the logs and fan (it's where you get to the zonaite store in the cave
the gsi route is the one I took in my first playthrough, though I did get ultra hand first I went for the snow area next, then flew down to the fuse shrine, then took the caverns, fought the boss, and went back to the ascend shrine to fly back to ToT
Wow, I love the Japanese typeface they used. Really invokes early Ghibli title cards like Nausicaa and Laputa
Congratulations!!

The climb up to ascend was the way i did it on launch day, i honestly didnt know that was unintended or even not the main path
5:20 I went to that robot first in my first playthrough I had no idea it wasnt the intended giver of batteries lol
I just love Linkus for doing Manscaped ads.
Got some for myself and its great.
Congratulations!!

I would love to see what in the world a TAS of this game would look like
