“Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part. If the foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear says, “I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,” would that make it any less a part of the body? If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything? But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. How strange a body would be if it had only one part! Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you.” In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary. And the parts we regard as less honorable are those we clothe with the greatest care. So we carefully protect those parts that should not be seen, while the more honorable parts do not require this special care. So God has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity.” (1 Corinthians 12:14-24)
Jumping Fan This is referring to the Church which is indeed called by Him and belongs to Him. You’re talking about America, a secular country that has long abandoned any semblance of remaining committed to Yahweh’s principles and laws.
Hello.I am Japanese. 🇯🇵 I heard this song playing in a clothing store yesterday and thought it was a very calming and nice song. I've never heard of this song before, but I want it to be more widely known around the world.
This song seats in a very remarkable place in my life's journey. As an undergrad navigating the deep waters of life finding hope and meaning for my life and journey, this song was an anchor. I came back to it on 28th Nov 2024 because it kept playing in my head. Thank you, Casting Crowns.
I used to be a pegan but at that time I was in a serious depression, then I became a Christian. Nothing was really different but then one day something just clicked that even if I am not enough for myself and I fail myself Jesus will always pursue me no matter what.
This was my absolute favorite song when I was a kid when it first came out. Haven't listened to it in years but I randomly thought about it the other day. I especially remember loving the lines "But it was the rhythm of the dancers/ that gave the poets life/ it was the spirit of the poets/ that gave the soldiers strength to fight/ it was the fire of the young ones/ it was the wisdom of the old/ it was the story of the poor man/ that needed to be told." And 11 years later those are still my favorite lines, but I also note the way the chorus changes from "they ran away" to "will we run away", reflecting on how it's not a story happening to others but it could be our story as well. Not to mention the overall message of allowing our differences to divide us when the Father wants us all to come home that 100% went over my head as a kid. I'm tearing up now, have a blessed day
It's ashamed that so many churches have special interests and have succumbed to the ways of the world. I can't find the Righteous and Faithful Spirit Jesus in any Church I attend anymore. I have renewed my faith and I think I'll worship in the way the Lord tells me; by reading his/her Scrpture. "Jesus loves me , yes I know (for the Bible tells me so".
Coming home from my martial arts lesson today, I had this CD playing in my car and I put this one on. I felt something really strong while singing along to it. It brought me to these recent times to the election. Now that Trump has been elected, I thought about all of the hate I've seen on social media. We're letting "our differences divide" and our country will be weaker than ever before. We need God to bring us back home so we can stand strong together and shine our light again.
(Matthew 12:25) "Knowing their thoughts, he said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself comes to ruin, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand."
Though we all have a different individual role and function to fulfill, the ultimate purpose is the same. Different joints, ligaments, and muscles but all members of the SAME BODY of CHRIST.
I can’t express how blessed I feel listening to this song; it got me thinking of my personal journey as a Christian. Thank you Casting Crown, God bless you all.
This song now has meaning to me compared to the first time I heard it. I've seen churches fall apart, and me being 28, I've definitely seen my share of older people thinking the young are foolish as well as the other way around. This song still applies today in 2020. Thank you Casting Crowns
The animation beautifully illistrates the point that "City on The Hill" tries to get across. When we beleive that we don't need anyone and have nothing to learn from others it destroys any possibility of the unity God wants us to have.
It's sad and true. " Ye are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden..." Unfortunately our Christian light can fade due to lack of vision, disputes, schisms etc. At this time especially the church needs unity and " to let our light so shine amongst men that they see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven".
this song is meant for the Body of Christ; its meant for us who are the light of the world.Ephesians 5:14 " Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light." May God give you understanding of this scripture.
I woke up with this song stuck in my head so I had to listen to it. I almost passed on an animated version of it...so glad I did not. Wonderfully done for a fantastic song!
Love the artistry of this band and video! Very well done! The last scene is POWERFUL! Come on, Brothers and Sisters! Let's get this right and Love like Jesus!
Isn't this what we are now? Each one thinks he knows what's better instead of working together, they let their differences divide. They start turning on each other.
Love this song! Thank you all the people from Casting Crowns for sharing your talents with us all. I pray God will bless you! I get hope and blessings from listening to your songs.
Did you hear of the city on the hill Said one old man to the other It once shined bright, and it would be shining still But they all started turning on each other You see the poets thought the dancers were shallow And the soldiers thought the poets were weak And the elders saw the young ones as foolish And the rich man never heard the poor man speak But one by one, they ran away With their made up minds to leave it all behind And the light began to fade In the City on the Hill, the City on the Hill Each one thought that they knew better But they were different by design Instead of standing strong together They let their differences divide And one by one, they ran away With their made up minds to leave it all behind And the light began to fade In the City on the Hill, the City on the Hill And the world is searching still But it was the rhythm of the dancers That gave the poets life It was the spirit of the poets That gave the soldiers strength to fight It was fire of the young ones It was the wisdom of the old It was the story of the poor man That needed to be told It is the rhythm of the dancers That gives the poets life It is the spirit of the poets That gives the soldiers strength to fight It is fire of the young ones It is the wisdom of the old It is the story of the poor man That's needing to be told But one by one will we run away With our made up minds to leave it all behind As the light begins to fade in the City on the Hill One by one will we run away With our made up minds to leave it all behind As the light begins to fade in the City on the Hill The city on the hill And the Father's calling still (Come home) To the city on the hill (Come home)
It'd be wonderful if all of the different denominations, including Catholic, orthodox, and protestant, would set aside their petty differences and unite together as the Church, the Body of Christ. That can never happen while continuing our complacent idleness. This COVID-19 fiasco has made it painfully apparent that idleness and complacency can no longer be tolerated. 1 Corinthians 1:10-17 1 Corinthians 3:4-7, 21-23

Absence makes the heart grow fonder. We hear that from some of the romantics in this life to explain the absence in our lives. Realizing we're all on a different journey and with prayer and sincere hope that at the end of our private walk, with the help of the others who're walking this same walk, we'll all come together at the "City on the Hill". Pray for one another; without ceasing.
I’ve been a fan of Casting Crowns since their Casting Crowns: Casting Crowns album released in 03. The moral of this song is that whether we run or stay at the end of the day we are all the same and shouldn’t cast stones on others
Because of the animation I listened to the words and the story. After a couple dozen plays I still say, Wow! Animation and the message and musically it's for me one of my all time greats. Thanks
Thank god that this story had a happy ending because of Jesus but its such a shame that life doesn't all the time as some of us don't know the joy and love of god AMEN
Worried and worn out the other day at mcdonalds a poet confrinted me i was reminded from his words why i was in this town and what i was fighting for this song is very very true listen to it and plz take its words to heart it could change your life and give u hope and meaning in dark times.
Divine! Great that someone took time and effort to create this! I love the animation, so well supporting music and text! It's eyeopening and at the same time spreading the Gospel ❤
It is the rhythm of the dancers that give the poets light. It is the spirit of the poets that give the soldiers strength to fight. It is the fire of the younger, the wisdom of the old. It is the story of the poor man needing to be told... Does anyone wonder what happened to the rich when they wrote this? I mean they mention them in the beginning, but they never say anything else...
It's only the very last part, the bit at the very end, with the old man with a beard holding his hands out, that I didn't like - it seems to me that it conforms too much to the stereotypical idea people have of God, as being an old man with a beard!....I just loved the video right up to that point!((((
I think yesterday illustrated this song very well. We've reached a point in America where we're doomed as a country if we don't change. Even if the song wasn't written about that, it can be equally applied. We were founded on the idea of religious and ideological freedom, and we left morals by the wayside.
The abrahamic faith as a whole is a form of the city on the hill, the many religions under god constantly turning on each other about the right way to worship him.
This song, is just amazing! I heard it for the first time at their concert and saw this video. Bought the CD too. City on the HIll is one of my new favs!
One of my favorites I love this God can use anything and everything. Keep it up CC you're spectacular and the salt of this earth you are the city on a hill. Praise The Lord
In the city On the hill this story is so sad they wear Divided By their Differences Instead of imberassing them God Gave them All Differences for a reason Amen
All praise to GOD. Thank you Jesus. This song has helped me past the judging sin. Praise be the Lord for using Casting Crowns to help others stop trying to do God's work. That is covered in Genesis. We don't need another Tower of Babel. AMEN. Thank you for making this Video. I use it often when people Judge. I was just doing this not to long ago and we see in others what we were or are or have great knowledge of; mostly we were or are what we see in others. I see the Judge a Mile away because I was the Judge. NO MORE! only God knows. Amen.
A Church of Jesus Christ's Love This song isn’t necessarily talking about not judging each other’s sins. It definitely does talk about not judging each other’s personalities and sub-cultures (like preps, nerds, goths, jocks, artsy people, activists, band geeks, etc.) Unfortunately, we Christians are often not wise enough to carefully distinguish between what’s actually sin vs. everything else. This lack of wise and careful distinction may lead us to judge others for stuff that’s not even sin in the first place.
Aside from attributing it to their deity, this really is an amazing and beautiful song about how civilizations are better when the people of this Earth work together, accepting all our differences and similarities. It's quality like this which leads to me giving each of "Casting Crowns" songs an objective listen through even though I normally dislike christian-based music.
Although, people are different with strength and weakness, we're also the same with feelings and needing to each other. All of us live in this City on the Hill.
Praise God I watched the church i got saved in fall apart after the pastor died because everyone wanted to fight over who the next pastor should be this song is legit everyone thought they knew what was best and people that didn't get what they wanted left the Chruch the Praise team leader became the pastor and had to make a whole new Praise team personally i don't think any of it was God's will the Chruch isn't the same and everyone has gone there own ways this song breaks my heart that Chruch family was the only family I had for 11 years
This song is seriously underrated. It's got a very important message.
I agree
The LORD is calling us back to him
“Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part. So God has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity.”

It makes me weep for America. Thank you for sharing this music.

My friend God loves you.. I command you to repent and believe in the gospel.
This is talking about the unity of the Church which is called by Yahweh, not about America which is a secular country not necessarily called by Yahweh

We need to help ppl out of thd cult. So they can be healed before its to late. Sadly many ran to a man and left God.
I don't want to run away. I just want to do whats best. Will you pléáse pray for my husband? His heart is palpitating and fibrilating terribly.
Have faith and tell your husband to have faith as well.
How is your husband doing now Helena ?
Hope he is well....

As someone who's witnessed multiple churches collapse from so much disunity, this one speaks to me.
Mandalorian Patriot It’s specifically for the Church. Nations may rise and fall, but the Church should endure and has endured through such calamities.
When we let our opinions blot out GOD'S word,,The Spirit can pack up and leave,,then there is no church left. It will fold as a house divided.
Isn't this what we are now? Each one thinks he knows what's better instead of working together, they let their differences divide. They start turning on each other.
The song is always Brand new can’t express how blessed I feel listening to this song.

Did you hear of the city on the hill
Said one old man to the other
It once shined bright, and it would be shining still
But they all started turning on each other
You see the poets thought the dancers were shallow
And the soldiers thought the poets were weak
And the elders saw the young ones as foolish
And the rich man never heard the poor man speak
But one by one, they ran away
With their made up minds to leave it all behind
And the light began to fade
In the City on the Hill, the City on the Hill
Each one thought that they knew better
But they were different by design
Instead of standing strong together
They let their differences divide
And one by one, they ran away
With their made up minds to leave it all behind
And the light began to fade
In the City on the Hill, the City on the Hill
And the world is searching still
But it was the rhythm of the dancers
That gave the poets life
It was the spirit of the poets
That gave the soldiers strength to fight
It was fire of the young ones
It was the wisdom of the old
It was the story of the poor man

Well done Casting Crowns, Be blessed
I love this song , very powerful message, City on a hill "instead of standing together they let their differences divide".
This is perhaps the most beautiful video I've ever seen.
This is a beautiful song. I saw it one time in a concert of their's and it was amazing.
Luckyyyyy
Because of the animation I listened to the words and the story. After a couple dozen plays I still say, Wow! Animation and the message and musically it's for me one of my all time greats. Thanks
Oh my God. That was so astonishing!!
Thank god that this story had a happy ending because of Jesus but its such a shame that life doesn't all the time as some of us don't know the joy and love of god AMEN
Amen!!!
God with a capital G. Or just GOD
Worried and worn out the other day at mcdonalds a poet confrinted me i was reminded from his words why i was in this town and what i was fighting for this song is very very true listen to it and plz take its words to heart it could change your life and give u hope and meaning in dark times.
2024 still in love with this track
The power in those words is awesome! Thank you
That... Was... AWESOME!!!
My favorite worship song ever.
Wow just wow love this song
This song has a very strong message.
wonderful song with a strong message :D
Wow the lyrics are pretty deep! What an awesome song! :)
Divine! Great that someone took time and effort to create this! I love the animation, so well supporting music and text! It's eyeopening and at the same time spreading the Gospel ❤
Amen Hallelujah 🙏🏻❤
i love the violin! Sooo So beautiful! She is blessed!
It is the rhythm of the dancers that give the poets light. It is the spirit of the poets that give the soldiers strength to fight. It is the fire of the younger, the wisdom of the old. It is the story of the poor man needing to be told... Does anyone wonder what happened to the rich when they wrote this? I mean they mention them in the beginning, but they never say anything else...
thats a great way to see this song!!!
This animation makes the song much more clear. Well done! We need to be good to each other.
I love the song and animation. People can really learn things from this.
It's only the very last part, the bit at the very end, with the old man with a beard holding his hands out, that I didn't like - it seems to me that it conforms too much to the stereotypical idea people have of God, as being an old man with a beard!....I just loved the video right up to that point!((((
what a perfect message for all ppl in any time. love it and love the vid animation too.
Awesome Song 🕊
A beautiful song and awesome animation! :)
Thank you so much Casting Crowns, I have listened to this about 100 times and it is very deep
In the city On the hill this story is so sad they wear Divided By their Differences Instead of imberassing them God Gave them All Differences for a reason Amen
This is so true! We all work together to further His kingdom. Love this!
Beautiful! Love this....
All of us live in this City on the Hill.
these songs are amazing every song i listen to from casting crowns i think are amazing you sir are a man blessed by god
Praise God I watched the church i got saved in fall apart after the pastor died because everyone wanted to fight over who the next pastor should be this song is legit everyone thought they knew what was best and people that didn't get what they wanted left the Chruch the Praise team leader became the pastor and had to make a whole new Praise team personally i don't think any of it was God's will the Chruch isn't the same and everyone has gone there own ways this song breaks my heart that Chruch family was the only family I had for 11 years
One of my favorite song. A very important message indeed.
Thank you Lord for every day you are all I need
Very powerful message!!
I'm SO GLAD they animated my favorite Casting Crowns song!
Great picture of the gifts as explained in 1 Corinthians 12.
God's still calling everyone back to the city on the hill. He's calling us to come out of the wilderness of sin.
