Google says lower ceilings helped to efficiently heat the rooms by fireplaces. I always thought that it was because people were shorter back then😂

People then were much smaller and lived much shorter lives . I think living till 40 was considered a long life. This was due to lack of sanitary living conditions and the food or lack of it that most people had access to.

Having owned a house on the West Hill many years ago, I know this property well. The current owners deserve congratulating for such a sympathetic restoration yet also modernisation.
Have lived all across the South East and now split time with family in the Cotswolds as well, but our decade in Hastings remains our fondest and we revisit every year. There has always been a thriving arts and events community, international chess congress, a beach launched fishing fleet using eco-nets, theatre within walking distance, the usual big name stores yet lanes with unique little shops, plenty of choice for dining out or having a tipple, good station for commuting. beautiful nearby towns and villages to visit. Magical place to raise children, retire to the coast or simply have everything on your doorstep on days off from work. This really is a unique opportunity to acquire a slice of history and wonderful lifestyle.

I love your videos so much they are an event! My first run through is at .5 speed slowly taking it all in as your inviting presentation style is so loving and appreciating without the selling tone. Now I am about to watch again at normal speed. Great way to start my very cold day in front of my woodstove avoiding going out to shovel snow again. Thank you from Ontario Canada. Gorgeous - love the simplicity of the renovation. Looks like part of it exists separately next door to the left from the street? Wonder if that has had the same care taken given the party wall. I actually spent a night in the Piece of Cheese house across the street back in the 80s, a friend of my housemates owned it, she was an interior designer. It used to be a coffin makers? Lovely house and can feel the history in every beam :)

I can feel, the atmosphere, the peace, the serenity through the screen. I did once have a cottage from the 1500's that originated as a little Inn named The Eagle', had the same. Once inside you were transported into another realm of existence......so tranquil, peaceful. The building held and cosseted you and the weekends seemed to last days, for sure was a time warp 😁. The owners have a done a wonderful job of restoration and I hope future caretakers take care in maintenance. I have seen too many beautiful historic homes where young people have moved in, ripped the soul out of the house and created a blank heartless void of chrome, glass and industrial metal beams, and tiled floors. Is sacrilage and should not be allowed. If they want ultra modern, they should buy or build an ultra modern space. I reckon the time loop in these buildings is shut off or evaporates once they start ripping out the interior.nso very, very sad, asconce gone, us gone for good.

    • @juliebrooke6099
      @juliebrooke6099 9 дней назад +1

If you buy the freehold you buy both the house and the land it’s built on plus any gardens and driveways. Most houses are freehold. The alternative is leasehold which usually applies to flats (apartments). In leasehold you only buy the use of the property for a set period, typically 999 years or 125 years. A freeholder owns the land and can charge an annual ground rent, and the building which they will charge you to maintain the outside. If the lease is getting short you can pay the freeholder to extend it. There are plans to abolish leasehold.

I couldn't live in it. No space in the kitchen for anything. No room to entertain. No storage or wardrobe space in the bedrooms.
Literally suitable for one person only, someone very wealthy.
    Has an awful museum atmosphere.
Take out the paintings and clutter, you're left with an expensive to maintain cramped house.

I live in a 1960 built house, not one cupboard was built. Talk about no clutter and my kitchen is small. The builders must of brought a plot of land and stuck four houses on it. I’ve still made it nice and neat. I quite like this house, a tad claustrophobic

Love the house but too much clutter for this mother!

I like the garden better than the house. It was too hodge podge for me.

Wonderful property, or was, till someone went berserk with white wash!

A wonderful house. I'm surprised that the NT hasn't wanted to acquire it. Surely there can't be many homes of this age still in good condition. It deserves to be bought by them and preserved as an example of how people lived in the 1400s.
To be honest, I feel you should get someone else to do the video show round. You're not awfully proficient at this and I think someone else might have done better.

wouldn't touch a listed building with a barge pole. Not possible to upgrade these buildings to meet modern specs and eventually no-one will be able to afford to live in them due to punative taxes, yet still the estate agents wax lyrical.

Went past this house when I visited Hastings for the day. I was wandering what it looked like inside, and now I think it is absolutely amazing🎪🎭🛁🌞

This house is SOOO cool but I wouldn't want to live here, mostly because I'm 6 ft 2 and I'd likely bang myself a concussion on those door frames. Still it's amazing and I'm glad you shared this tour. We don't have houses like this in the United States.
