- Ryan Crouser @ Concordia University on July 9, 2011. National high school discus record 237'5". Shot put 73' 5", best single day shot-discus double in high school throws history.
Now he's an Olympic gold medalist in the shot...
David Heffernan is he really
@@nerv6053 yes look it up
Olympic record holder actually
World record holder in the shot
Ee
The amount of chest-hip separation Crouser gets in discus is insane. He is able to gain at least 20-30 feet just by simply landing in his power position with his discus all the way back. In order to achieve that, you need a lot of quickness with your footwork, but also a lot of patience with your upper body. Crouser was around the same size as me, and I base some of the aspects of my technique off his...
10 years later and he is now the world record holder in the shot put 23.37m absolute legend
And now 23.56 🤯
Up to 23.56m now….
I love that you are such a great athlete from Oregon.
Your family has such a great athletic history as well.
I won the hammer throw national meet in NAIA 1993.
You broke the world record in shot...and I know you will break the world record in discus in your next adventure.
Good luck and god bless you.
I came here to see how my HS throws stacked up...i'll be leaving now... :D
I got 46, in Shotput, but then Covid happened and never got to beat the school record.
My friend got 50 in shotput. I think he’s a sophmore idk but I never threw shotput before
He was so slim back then...
Truly impressive. Continuing the Crouser dynasty! Well done!
wow-237 feet is so huge..so fast for such a huge guy...pulling for him in the next olympics
Sean Power he got gold
this aged well
Oo
Ee
Hey I have some good news for ya
Congrats on winning GOLD !!! And a new OR. I hope to run into you some day. I live in Happy Valley area.
Good luck in Rio next month. Bring home the gold.
and he did!
The finals arent until this evening
And he did, with a new Olympic record!
He sure showed them how to do it.
Yea that's our hero!
Just crushed the shotput WR!
Yessir
Wanna see him do it again? ruclips.net/video/8jmxGxW_ZxM/видео.html
Reason to love u tube. Seeing some one from 12 years ago. Never been, never met, still connected.
Nice to see how far he's come, here's to hoping for you to break the shot world record.
How do you feel knowing that he did? :)
@@samanimations2002 when I saw the thumb nail to his world record video for the first time i went crazy lol
@@samanimations2002He just got another one!
I love how long it takes for the disc to land.
Very good, is it normal in US that juniors throw with 1.6k? Here we throw with 1.5k at age 16/17 and 1.75k at age 18/19
Zandter mostly all high schoolers use 1.6k in the us
i'm pretty sure they had to use the discus measuring tape to measure his shot throw as well.
Now he owns the shotput world record
I just stumbled across this old relic. Wow!
Watching this after your 23.56m WR!
I think they’re going to need a bigger field…
He just broke the record for shot put…
Does anyone know what the windconditions were when he trew his record? Hard to tell from the video.
Was this a regular track and field meet? or just a throwing competition?
3x GOLD MEDELS IN A ROW
What is the best stand throw for each event?
I understand what you mean.... but in all fairness to ryan crouser, he was competing against other people in this meet. he was not the only one. This was indeed a meet probably to get the mark in, but it was a legitimate meet. Colleges were there to witness him throw this. And a mark is a mark. He prob could have thrown farther if not for injury
That's f...ing incredible. Man that kid can propel objects.
this destroys the discus world record by 5 feet thats insane (i know its a 1.6kg and not 2k but still nuts)
For high school shot putters out there, how crazy is Michael Carter’s high school record of 81 ft 3 inches to y’all? When do you think it will be broken?
Rumor is that you will give Discus a try after the upcoming Olympics, hope it's true. Really believe you can win gold in the event. The USA is in need of a serious discus thrower to challenge the current world's best, give it a shot at least, would be great for the sport and maybe increase Americans' appreciation for the throws.
Well I certainly have nothing against Ryan Crouser, what a superstar and it's obvious he was capable of that throw and way more. Was the meet set up just for this special occasion? I mean if a person gets enough special comps they are bound to get what they are after but is that fair to previous record holders? Was this meet scheduled at least 6 months in advance?
I wish professional throwers could do 2 events rather than just one
Look at rutger smith
Tony Sommers john godina as well
I think Ryan should retire from shot now that he has the world record, and shoot for the discus world record. He has the power and technique to be competitive at the world level.
They can but they just focus on one rather than both.
when you have arms as long as he does the disc is being spun faster as he drives through the circle. plus he seems to use a ton of leg strength.
I really didnt think anybody was going to beat Masons record as a highschooler. God fucking damn man the new Virjillius
Actually the HS discus is a standard 3lb and 5lb discus.. the shotput is 12-14lbs. But 237 isnt a bad day, but far from the best record ever!!
say what! what is your point old sport?
Epsilon Eridani it’s a 1.6k discus and 12 pound shot
A 1.6kg discus is 3.5lbs thats what the boys use
It's not far from the best record. It is the record.
@JAKE8E8S Not to mention that in some countries, it only takes the B standard to qualify for the Olympics, which is 63m. It's not ridiculous to think Crouser could have done this in HS, let alone by summer 2012. I think his shot won't be until 2016, though
how come he threw the indoor shot so much farther??? i thought the outdoor shots were supposed to go farther
Was the previous record even close? Those numbers are phenominal!
That's 70 feet further than my high school's record. Freaking nuts.
Congratulation. You are the best.
Wonder why he doesn’t throw disc now? He’d probably be a world champion at it.
The person he couched just won the gold medal of disc in Paris as well as breaking the Olympic record.
My sons are coming after you. One day I hope they get there
did they?
Federal Bureau of Investigation 😂😂 four years later
why has your shot went down so much sense indoor?
Do you think that this mark was false? or that it didnt count?
@EndlersaurusRex thats actually a pretty accurate way to describe mason's throwing technique
@jackstech1 standard for high school in America. what else would he be throwing??
I just got 71.9 feet in discus with no spin and Im in seventh grade. Yay =D
I got 93 feet with a scale and I'm in 8th
Garrett Campos Wow I totally forgot that this was posted May of 2015. The memories! I do well more than that now!
I got 114 first season 7th grade lol
+Michael Springer nice one Michael. Lmao
+PetervsRUclips i threw 144 my freshman year.
Ryan (or anyone reading these comments), why has the United States produced so many of the best shot-putters over the past several decades but failed to produce a truly competitive discus thrower? I understand why our javelin throwers and hammer throwers are not world class; most high schools don't have those events due to safety concerns. But I don't understand our we have so few discus throwers.
Discus is more finesse
砲丸は高校記録じゃないのか!!
im trying to make state by the end of my senior year for discus, are there any tips for the full spin or certain workouts i should focus on? would love to even hit 200 ft ahah
my comment has nothing to do with this ring entering controversy here. So these late season meets sometimes have loose judging. I remember one at the U of Oregon in the summer of 85 in a javelin competition. I think alot of these records have taken place under less than ideal conditions. Not taking anything away from the Crouser boys, they surely are very talented.
Every high school state track schedule says mason finley has the nation high school record. Why is that?
Mason Finley had the record the year prior to Ryan. High Schools probably haven't updated it.
***** Oh ok. I thought they would have updated it by now, but you're probably right.
Throwing a 5kg shot-put 22m, as a high-school student?
The world record outdoor is 23.12 m (75 ft 10 in) using a 7.26kg shot-put, and that is grown men. I am in serious disbelief, that you were 17-18 throwing that far. That is completely insane. You must be a world record thrower in the Olympics by now, since you throw probably 3-4x as far as any average men's thrower.
urdeath01 nice prediction! Won Olympic gold 3 years back, someone reply on this comment when he gets the world record! There’s no way he won’t
Do you have any advice ?
dont go outside the lines. B-)
That’s crazy he’s awesome
Epic....
are you just strong or is it mainly tech. ?
I know he's still mad he didn't break the national record in shotput
@Jhende930531 Finley consistently threw in the low 200s and occasionally pooped teens, but only threw over 220 twice, maybe thrice. Crouser threw over 200 as a Sophomore and then was repeated injured as a junior and season. He has clearly better technique, as evident by looking at their two national record throws. Don't even forgot he threw shot significantly further (Finley threw 72, Crouser thew 77 indoors and 73+ outdoors). Both were great HS throws, but Crouser was better hands down.
he beat EVERYONE.....
they dont have to add up lol obviously, ryan crouser has a very unique form and technique style that is very different from olympic throwers. He has absolutely FLAWLESS technique.
Holy crap he was insane in high school. I’m only throwing 100 for disc rn.
Injury i believe. No doubt 80 ft shot and 250 disc without injury. Look out for him in the NCAA finals as a sophomore. Maybe double shot/disc all-american
how old were u when u first started?
Great stuff!
I have seen special meets or comps where rules were not as adhered to or the meet was run a little loose. Not saying this one was, I would think the people involved in this meet used the highest standards in officiating it. I just like to see records given under the strictest conditions in all fairness to everyone.
can't wait to see what he'll do in college
haha
@@OakQueso i know right
If you were a thrower of his caliber, you'd be starting the clap as well lol you're watching the #1 track and field thrower to come out of high school so the clap shoudl probably be expected. Also considering he has the national record for both shot indoor and disc outdoor lol
@dendrok1 For America? 65m could do it. In 4 years you don't think someone who probably already throw the 2K discus 60m+ can't get to 65m, given his current size, and knowing his background?
I think he has a good shot, just like Finley, but both will probably be better shot putters initially (as evident for Finley).
wait, did he beat finley then?
what about as a freshman?
Outstanding!!!
Freshman year disc?
His freshman year he threw 180 x.x
DAMN
theoretically yes
Good throw man! Most certainly honorable, but I'd have an easier time believing this was "Nat'l Record" quality if I could find anything about a Ryan Crouser breaking that mark online. If it was unofficial (practice toss/non-event), I could understand, but that would ultimately mean it would be illegitimate to give it the label of "National HS Discus Record."
I've found multiple of his discus record but none on the shot record
The shot throw shown should have never been counted. He scratched entering the ring from the front.
He probably learned a proper diet from Dean, Brian and Mitch. Hope he doesn't lose one of his balls too.
What a Beast
@Throwfar8 Totally appropriate song! Especially after all his injuries lmao
i love throwing at Macs throw center (concordia)
Hear, hear. Some of my athletes have specifically requested that people NOT clap like that--screws up their timing.
i went to the same track meets he did its insane!!!
00:23 I'm gonna start doing that twist before the throw, it really look like it adds a lot of torque
i am a sixth grader going into 7th and i threw the disc 121 feet and the shot put 40" 6'
Where you at now? Junior? Senior?
Mr. Meeseeks I found him on athletic.net he threw from freshman to junior year in discus 133 150 159 and in shot 40 43 47. But he was a junior in the 2018 season meaning his senior season should have been this past season although I can not find it
who is mason finley lol
i dont think so lol I started the clap at new balance for the discus and threw just fine, I won actually. My friend Evan did the same thing and threw 59m. It's an emotional high and it pumps you up. If an elite athlete wants to get pumped to throw a distance that 99.9% of america cant throw, then so be it. It takes a little animosity to throw THAT far. I assume that you have thrown before?
@AdamManns He had a back injury
@bdonin he went to longhorn country
@XxPHD69xX oh well i thought he did, but yeah hes very good.. came out of nowhere but this year is probably they best year of throwing gfor high school i ever seen in my life,,,
@monkEalvord just because officials at your meets think its a rule doesnt mean it is. its a complete myth.
How far do you throw the 2k discus and 16 lb shot? You should be one the of best in the US right out of the gate. Congratulations!
Can just look it up now. It’s 22.90 meters for shot and disc it’s like 63 meters
Let's see what Ben Smith does this July.
Won nationals by the looks of it
I am coming for this record
Good luck old sport
This bloke just won the Olympics. You have no chance lol.
2012. School. English. You.
@jackstech1 well gee it was stated in the video.......
@fastfatboy1 they still have that rule at my meets i dont know what that guy was doing
This is sick, I throw like half in each...
awesome throw no doubt, but i honestly think he could have thrown ten feet further if he had more power coming from the back leg.
@3lectronicx good luck with that
