    Yes! another UBoat video 😃
    I'm not going to watch the whole video tonight, tomorrow is a work day 🙄
    But what I do when I start a new run, I check my officer's abilities just in case I have a merchant, select him and then go and buy things to equip the boat, better prices.
    The mouse wheel will always zoom out from the officer's station, when looking through the UZO or periscope right clicking will switch between zoom levels.

      Ah, yeah... you're right, it's mouse right-click for the zoom. I do have a tendency to forget that. The bino zoom is so often the mouse, and I knew it had to do with mouse, just forgot it was right click.

    The issue with map tools being unavailable/not working correctly boils down to either having the torpedo interface open or one of the officers selected.
    Keep up the content and good work!

      Came here to say the same thing. Once the tubes are in the face, maptools stop working. I wonder whether the devs intended it to work that way.

    Thanks for the patrol and tutorial videos. At 1h:41m hit again left alt to remove the UI so you can shoot again with the deck gun. I am looking forward for your next video!!!

    Another great video! Brave man, starting a run without periscope stabilization! 😂I haven't gone that far... 1:09:22 that happened because the torpedo "menu" was opened. And when reloading torpedoes, I found out that if you don't have anyone selected, click on the tubes first, drag torpedoes to the tubes and then click on the engineer after (just direct him to the tubes), he will load all at once. Thanks for another class, that first hit at 3Km plus, was definitely a "curved ball", what a nice shot!👍

      Ah! I have noticed that when that torp menu is open it won't let you click on the officer icons. It must apply to the map icons as well! Another good one to bring to the devs attention. I will also have to give you torpedo loading method a try! Would be nice to have the crew just reload em all. 😊

    Please do the next one in German. This is the only watchable uboat series on RUclips and the voice acting is just so much better from the German cast. Please trust me. I don't even sprecht the damn deutsch and I understand everything they say, it's so immersion breaking. Please consider this small request.

      Please don't. It was your videos that got me to try the game in English and whilst the accents could be better, I agree with you that it is much more immersive when you can understand what's being said.

    1:38:20 - I’ve noticed you have to remove the UI again to resume control of the gun. I think you can tap Alt to remove the UI again without having to leave and reenter the station.

    Love your videos, do you think you can do an in-depth video on the four bearing method? I know you covered it in your intercept tutorial but you went kind of fast and I can't follow it. I'd love for you to break it down barney style and explain why we are making the bearings as we go along (I don't understand HOW or WHY it works).

      @@evilsix6149 If you are doing anything in either game and getting an exact bearing to target (and that's without an exact range) then don't fool yourself. You're cheating. LOL In other words, if you have accurate enough info to get anywhere remotely close to a 4-bearing method solution to work, then you're cheating.

      I'll show you how to do it, but I'll mostly be explaining why no one can do it very well because we are not monitoring a towed array inside a Virginia class submarine. 😂
      Everyone reads about 4-bearing, swears they are doing it right, but can't get remotely close to the right answer. In short, you are doing it right. It's just that by the time you are close enough to the target, that your data would be good enough to get a reliable answer, you are also going to be within visual range and can just look at your target like a WWII sub commander and get a better answer.
      There is a reason why the 4-bearing method is not talked about in the memoirs of WWII sub commanders. ...and it has nothing to do with a paper written in 1953.

      @@xljedi2335 yes, that's what I thought. with the Silent Hunter 3 or 5 (the Wolves of steel) mod where the hydrophone only has a range of about 30 km, it's logical that I see the target sooner (except in foggy weather). In UBoat, the hydrophone has a range of over 100 km, so it would be more interesting to calculate the four Baering method for the long distance.

    If you are running your speed in knots, I wonder if it might be easier for you to have your distances in NM. That way it will be easier to plot accurately how far you (and the target) can travel in, say, an hour.

      Good question but no, that doesn't have anything to do with it. The vectors I plot and distances traveled are relative. So the comparisons and math that I do are not influenced by the scaling you are talking about. In fact, I frequently change the vector scale from km to m depending on how close I am to the target. It's the same concept used on maneuvering boards where the rings can represent various scales. I will tell you though, that 3:15 (or more correctly 3:14) rule that people use; that does change depending on what distance scales you are using. 3:15 is only right if converting km to knots.

      Settings asks you which units you want to use. Some combo of nmi is what you're looking for.

    Hey, quick question. Is it normal for the map tools to be kind of 'faint'? For some reason, mine aren’t as detailed or clearly marked compared to yours. Any idea why?

      I've seen a lot of discussion about this on the Steam forums. Has something to do with the video drivers I think? Change a setting or two and the lines look fatter. You'd have to check the Steam forum, I don't remember the graphic card settings off the top of my head.

    How do you calculate distance using the scopes metering as there is no explanation anywhere on how to actually use the scopes to calculate distance other than the image doubling tool called the stadimeter or whatever. I play realistic and want to use the scope more to calculate distance but have no idea on how to use the scales on the side and bottom. I gather the bottom scale is degrees to centre but the side one I have no idea about or how to use it.
    You sort of mentioned briefly at 1.5x magnification that it wasnt covering half your scope and you estimated it is around 5km. How do you know this.

      I've just noticed that when I'm at 1.5x mag, the ship is about 3000m away when it fills half of the space between the vertical wires on the scope. So if a tanker fills the space between the wires, its about 1500m away. The smaller merchants the same applies but they only fill about 2/3 of the scope when 1500m away. It's just something I have gotten used to seeing after ranging so many of them. Now I guesstimate the distance every time before confirming with stad, I'm usually pretty close. I'm also starting to pay more attention to the vertical metering on the 1.5x scope so I might be able to use that as well. I feel fairly confident that I can hit a ship out to 3000m with a 2-torp fan.

      The math is ship height divided by the # of squares you see on your periscope. The result is in hectometer(1hm=10m). But I don't know if it works on vanilla periscope, I use a mod. This is for the 1st zoom

      ​@@geobalabasciuc9996It doesn't work for the vanilla periscope, as its markings are not accurate. I use the the "more accurate periscope sights" mod for what you described and I would recommend anyone to give it a try.

      @@geobalabasciuc9996 I looked up hectometer and it states that 1 hectometer is 100m. But it still dont explain what the numbers on the side represent. What are the numbers 50, 100, 150 mean. Are they 1/10 of distance say 50 is 500m and so on and then you have scope multiplication to go by. Dont know what you mean by squares on periscope. I assume you mean each notch on the side. I really want to use it but I just dont get how to use it properly.
      Going by an example, how far is a ship with a mast height of 22m standing even along the 50m mark on the periscope.

      @@xljedi2335 my hope for this game is that somehow UBE gets working again. It had all the real convoys, so much historical information and real newspapers etc. UBE was the best mod ever made for any game I have ever encountered except perhaps Falcon BMS. I really hope it gets made compatible and the devs will help it out.

      @@calumlittle9828 UBE is actively being updated. 1.0 changed a ton of backend code so Link and the guys are basically starting from scratch
