For those who don't understand it, ill try to explain as best as I can in the scene before this one, kanji asks naoto to stop calling him "kanji-kun" and to just call him kanji. in Japan, dropping the part after a name usually implies a very close relationship, either best friends, or intimate. essentially, kanji was asking naoto if he could be her boyfriend, from what I could tell, he only did all of this because he thought he was in a dream and anything he did wouldn't carry to the real world. lo and behold, he finds out he's not in a dream, and realizes that everyone he's encountered so far is real, including naoto. he basically asked naoto out in real life without knowing it, hence his embarrassment hope this explains it. feel free to correct me on anything you think is wrong
This joke was actually kind of mistranslated due to the way the honorifics were translated into the English version. In the Japanese version, the joke actually carries a very different meaning due to the way characters refer to each other in the Japanese version. In the canon route (this video here shows a "joke" ending), Mitsuru says something along the lines of: "To think that we were saved by someone who had so little understanding of the situation" with a kind smile. That was funny.
The Japanese version had Naoto switch from calling him "Tatsumi-kun" to "Kanji-kun". First name basis is only used for family or people who are VERY close to each other.

If it makes you feel any better, it’s implied this is kind of what happens in other routes as well. He’s even the final boss of Teddie’s route instead of hacked Labrys or the doppelgängers.
The reason is because the tv world is basically making them hallucinate the whole time. The characters will speak to the real person but are tricked into hearing them either digging at their personal issues or agitating them in some way to encourage them to fight. They are actually fighting but the words that lead them to do it are just the world messing with their heads. Kanji also assumes this is all a dream because he was half asleep when he fell into the tv, so he already thinks none of it is real and the world is messing with him further. This is also shown in his fight with Naoto, he points out that at this time she's not even in Inaba, so he can't possibly assume it's actually her.
I've seen some people bringing this as a validation for Kanji x Naoto being a canon, but Naoto's necklace has nothing to do with Kanji's, even the size and color are different. Ouch. Also, I always thought that Kanji's crush on Naoto was made for a comic relief purpose, so I never saw it being something serious. I still like my boi Kanji tho, it's just the Pimp King who gets all the girls so nothing personal lol

Biecie Jack honestly shes not a bad pick. I picked Rise in my golden run on PC cause she reminded me of FF7R’s Jessie, and pretty much won me by replacing Teddie as the battle announcer cause he made me wanna mute my TV anytime I go to TV world, I felt really bad when I rejected yukiko, she didn’t take it very well. Especially cause I did say yes at first to see what her romance was like and then rerolled the save file.
