I still watch this documentary till this day. All this separation in Hip Hop is ridiculous. This is where I first learned about Black Wall Street. I was and still am totally on board with the independent route. And I think Texas had the smoothest intro. Great documentary 👍👍

@@calebellis7173 Virginia is basically an extension of NC, so how it's not southern? 😂😂😂There's no difference in culture. People in NC go to VA and vice versa. There's no big change in culture or difference. The states even do business with each other and share news and radio coverage depending on the location. West Virginia and Kentucky are even more southern than both VA and NC and poorer. 😂😂😂. Maryland itself is just an extension of VA, so yea all are Southern.

Why was I 12 years old with this DVD? I saw this on TV and had to get it! It’s beautiful to look back and see how southern music & musicians has evolved ❤
Bruh u got my subscription for this upload..this is one of my all time favorite documentaries...it's too real u got cats eating with their family being interviewed..cats in the kitchen being interviewed...i remember my big brother introduced me to southern hip hop in 93 when i was just 7 and by 95 i was the only cat in my crew in the Bronx that bumped south music with my homies looking down on it..at first.. thinking about that Source Award moment with OutKast the world never knew what was coming but I'm glad the south finally got the respect they deserved..much respect to Luke and what he said cuz he's absolutely right this is America, freedom of speech but in the end it's good all the times the music industry and really any industry is hit with attention like that cuz in the end it's freedom of speech and all they did was make more people take note of it...this is a classic documentary that any fan of hip hop should see and I use to lend my DVD out to friends to Put them onto it until one didn't return it and i been meaning to get another one but again thanx for the upload bruh..also props to J Dawg and his Gangsta Walk
Bought this from a mom and Pop store in Norcross Georgia. This is one of my favorite documentaries. I actually ended up working with the producer and Director FLX years later small world.
Before i even watch this Doc i want to say that Houston is the first Southern city to have real motion in the Rap Game. Then Miami area. Salute them two first.
*A Ranking of the 4 Major Regions in the Rap Game From the Strongest Region to the Weakest:* -*#1 the South* : No region does it better, the most creative of the 4 major regions. No region is more diverse in terms of sounds and styles than the South, no region has created more Rap subgenres than the South and no region has had a longer reign than the South. -*#2 the East Coast* : This region has always found a way to stay relevant, even at times when they aren't the top region. -*#3 the West Coast* : The West has a noticeable lack of technically proficient rappers compared to the other regions which is a knock against that region from the perspective of stylistic diversity. They also tend to go through periodic droughts where they only have one or two rappers. -*#4 the Midwest* : The weakest of the major regions, the only region that has never had a reign. There's never been an era when the charts were dominated by Midwest artist or by a Midwest sound. The Midwest is also the only region that has never developed any identifiable sounds that represent their region which is a major blow from a production standpoint(The South has Crunk, Trap etc.; the East Coast has Break Beat, Boom-bap etc.; the West Coast has G Funk, Gangster etc.).

Dirty States Of America the documentary is still a classic featuring all the artist from the south like YoungBloodz, 8ball & MJG, Big Pokey, Paul Wall, Quanie Cash, Grandaddy Souf, Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz, Lil Flip, legendary DJ Screw, Baby D, Petey Pablo, T.I. Baby Ray, Big Will, David Banner, Three 6 Mafia, UGK, Killer Mike, Geto Boys, Lil Scrappy, Willie D, SkullDuggery, Fiend, ESG, Pitbull, and Scarface.
I wish the Documentary gave more props to other WELL deserved legends from Y'all So Stupid to Rap-a-Lot big dogs like Big Mike, 3-2, TMT & Suave House vets like Crime Boss & Southern Circle, & even cats like Lil Keke & Mystical. & did the South ever have b-boying, graf artists, beat-boxers chapters??
@TRAPPINDENDE nah not even niggas just got no substance. Once niggas stopped writing about they struggle and the passion and soul left ,hiphop declined
Proud to be from The Dirty Dirty South.
