I take a section of stick and do the same thing. Then I use a steel U bolt to connect around a sappling which holds the chain of the DP. Its easy to attach and detach and allows the animal to rotate around the tree and catch area without binding which could otherwise give it leverage to pull out.

I like the concept of having the earth anchors already attached with the J hooks so they are ready to put into the ground but here is a disadvantage to that concept. If you want to move the DP to another spot, then you have to deal with the problem pulling the earth anchors or opening the J hook and leaving the earth anchor in the ground. I'd prefer to use a D link connector through the last chain swivel and the earth anchor top loop. That lets me remove the trap any time I wanted to without having to pull the anchor cable. No reason not to leave the cable in the ground and just save that spot as a future place to reset. Lots of my locations produces over and over again after waiting a while before resetting the same spot so I like having a preset earth anchor.
The use of a D link also is stronger plus it tightens down solid and no raccoon is going to figure out how to loosen it. I can use that D link to connect a cable extension in either of the ways you showed in the video when I want to anchor around a tree or post. Not a fan of having TWO kinked up cables after trapping a raccoon, which is likely what you will get if you have a cable extension around a tree that is in turn connected to an earth anchor as shown in this video. Having a raccoon twist up two sets of cables on one trap is just doubling my work and trapping expense! Swivels help but some raccoons will kink up and chew on cables no matter how many swivels are on the trap.
    Enjoyed the video however!

How do you release the raccoon without getting attacked? Shoot, kill, remove, cleanup brain splatter and blood?

i just pet it and say good kitty then let it go. your attempt at trolling is wasted here.

So if you put the PVC pipe in it, you won't get your finger caught right?

Ok because I am 13 years old and I have been trapping for a year now. I have been using footholds and large cage traps. I am thinking about getting dog proofs

Welcome to trapping! If you are targeting Racoon it is hard to beat dog proof traps. They cost a little more to get started but you are not catching unwanted animals except for the occasional opossum. Even with the pvc I guess someone who is not being really careful could still manage to get a finger in the trap, just don't stick your finger in there!
If you are trapping Racoon it is hard to beat cheap sardine pieces as bait. I place a little chunk under the trigger before setting the trap. You can pour a little trail of the sardine oil leading up to the trap if you wish. Remember @@bigbeepus3039 to place your dog proof trap in the Racoon's trail as they don't like to get off from their normal path. Best of luck sir, I bet you do well.
