I had been trying to trap raccoons in this trap for the last 5 days. They kept retrieving the bait without setting it off. I watched your video yesterday and it was the GAME CHANGER! Bro, thank you so much for sharing this idea. It made all the difference. Am subscribed. Looking forward to more of your vids.
I put a small marshmallow on just like that. I use that whipped marshmallow for bait and it never fails. I don't trap for money, I trap because I'm tired of coons messing around my house. These traps were a godsend because I live in a town and I can't be cutting loose with my shotgun.
Hey I know this is two years old but I’m sure you’re still catching critters. Anyway thanks for the tip inside the trap. I used what aircraft electricians call heat shrink. I layered it a couple of times to thicken it. Thanks again
have you ever had a dogproof nearly cut a paw off of a opossum or raccoon..we did and now we put a bit of thin tubing around the wire so it doesn't cut the foot off
Did you have the trap somewhere for the animal to wrap around or get leverage on? Such as a tree/sapling, log, or anything like that? It's hard to believe you set it in an open area.
Just caught a racoon with one hand. I got him on the one good hand he had. Figured he was caught with someone else's trap, and got away. He didn't get away this time
Do you like the powder coat more than bare? We use to dye them but one year we decided we would try a bare metal and it seemed like they were more curious about the shiny.
When I first started buying them they were bare metal and I painted them white to give them some rust protection. Now they come powder coated so I paint the bottom half white so they stick out to the raccoons a bit more but leave the top half brown so the stand out if there is a light dusting of snow.
@@blackspruceoutfitters9711 Yep, it works, got a large coon that had been killing my chickens last night. My wife shot it with my Ruger 10/22 while I was at work ;-)
Interesting, Gary Bonnet (inventor and manufacturer of the Griz Gettr') showed us this tip in 2002 and we used it long before DP's were named DP's and RUclips was just a Thought LOL. Just goes to show, what goes around - comes around,
I am new to the coon trapping world and I just got me this coon trap in the mail. Is it supposed to come with a setting tool? I do not know how to set it 🙄 Thank You for any feedback.. from Rookie of the yr. Lol
@@blackspruceoutfitters9711 thank You. Yes, I found a metal rod that works perfectly 👍 but I was 🤬 when I first got the trap because I did not know lol
Wouldn't anybody, but a moron, just lay the hose on a solid surface, like a piece of wood, like maybe even a wood ruler, to cut it. Then the job would be, chop, chop, chop... And during the process, you wouldn't have to go bandage your thumb.

Thats a good idea. 1st time I've ever heard or seen anyone do that. And I've been using dp's for years. Good tip 👍

How do you dispatch them then?

Good idea!
That seems like a reasonable modification I hope to see some more content this season!
Great tip going to give it a try appreciate it
Great tip buddy!! I don't know how I didn't see this before!
Very helpful tip! Thank you!
Great tip..Will give this a try ! Thanks

I have not. I have heard of it happening though. The best thing you can do is check your traps as soon as possible so the animal isn’t in it as long.
I've had a few coon feet in the dp no coon though

Have you ever came across one of your traps pulled with and triggered but no coon? Like they escaped I guess ? Happened twice to me
thanks a lot the only thing is my dp duke have the round trigger so wont do me any good thanks again
That's a great tip! I'll sure try it out this year. Subbed ya

@@blackspruceoutfitters9711 thats a smart idea, i like the half paint idea. thank you god bless
I seen a guy paint all his dog proof traps white.
Is it big enough to use a whole egg as bait?
Are they cat proof ?
Pardon my ignorance but what is this supposed to do on the trigger? Thank you
The raccoon is more comfortable grabbing a piece of rubber instead of a cold chunk of metal.

They do not come with a setting tool. you can buy one if you choose to, but it is just as easy to use a large screwdriver.

Thank you all.. yes, I just used a screwdriver as well :)
Lubricant? Bacon grease.
Or slip a small marshmallow on it?
Duke should reverse the swing of the trigger so it can be bumped back instead of pulled forward..
but then it wouldn't be dog-proof anymore.
Very amusing,
About fox
About fox will get then
Just found these on my land . Tossed them in trash . 🤣🤣

Be careful. The venom is dripping from your fangs.
