As a new trapper this year I have been using cotton under the pan so thanks for the poly fill info. Should be better because the cotton holds water and compresses when wet. Poly should solve those issues. Great info. Please share some more tips!

After 55 years of trapping l only use house insulation! Dirt cheap won't freeze even wet! Just tear off a piece that fits under the pan. A whole roll would last a lifetime! Out here in Idaho lots of us catch 200-500 coyote a season! I use almost all blind trail sets! Hardly ever carry lure or bait only urine when I make a "shit set"! Hahaha

Do you air it out before you use it for the season? I’ve used wax paper or buckwheat hulls for 46 yrs. always wanted to try the poly but was afraid of odor.

I buy it at Wal-Mart and it does not have any odor. You can buy a huge package for less than $5.00, will last me about 2 seasons generally.

Ok cool. One thing I’m not understanding as a rookie trapper. Pan covers are to dirt from getting under pan correct? Now are we trying to cover the latch? Thanks for posting.
    Vic

By latch are you referring to the "Dog"? No reason to cover that, a pan cover is just trying to prevent dirt, mud, sand etc from moving under the pan and restricting the pan from moving down when an animal puts weight on it. This helps the trap performance, helps prevent freezing and allows the trap to jump better out of the earth that is covering it. Does that help?

Trapping the Ozarks yes the dog sorry. Thanks for commenting back. Had idea the pan cover was to keep dirt from getting under the pan. Obviously. But. Dirt coving the dog was what I really had in question. Thank you sir.

Hey, by the way, I would recommend using a trap pan cover. Like this ruclips.net/video/PTTWgr__hUg/видео.html
