Great idea on the sliding loop. Small tree big tree in between tree it will work!

I have used POGO anchors with good success. The trick is to use a washer sized to the conditions you are trapping in.
For example I use 1.25 in washers in hard pan (clay type) soils, and I will use up to a 2.5 inch washer in sandy or wet soil.
And I am always adding extra swivels when I can.

Yeah Wildman also what I'd like to see you do is some RCR for cayots and the support system how you do it cuz I'm pretty sure use Earth anchors for that but if you don't that's fine I just want to see how you make yours and I want to see how you set it with a 9 gauge wire if you use that alright buddy thank you

Great content. I mostly just staple a split ring to a big root with lots of play , or a cut sapling 10 15 feet long as a drag or toggle as some call it. The staples can be used year after year. Coons give you lots of action. Lots of fun.

I use 4ft of 7x7 cable 3.32 and I fasten the cable right to the DP with a double ferrule then I make a big loop on the other end then I can go around the tree put the dp through the loop and just pull it tight only thing though is your cable isn't able to be removed

I actually totally differ with you on this one. Wire is way cheaper and the cables can break if the swivels get frozen. I never attach them to a tree or give them anything to grab. The earth anchor is the best if you can drive it in the ground. If not then wiring to a large rock 6" or bigger works and I have had good luck with a drag if small trees are around. Sometimes they will tie themselves to a small tree with about 5' of chain. The earth anchor pre-installed is light and fast so it is my go to. Also super cheap if you use a washer and a stop at each end of the cable. 2 aluminum stops, 18" of cable and an 11/2" washer. Right through the bottom hole in your drowner and you have 2 swivels.

Wire is absolutely junk for fastening DPS cable is way better use 5ft of 7x7 cable 3.32

@@adammoggysawmilling5164 anything is about junk if you don't use it right. I'm not talking leaving 4' and hanging loose. What the heck is cable? Wire! What does 7×7 strand mean what does 1×19 strand mean 🤔? Don't tie your shoes right and the knot will come apart. Does that mean all shoe laces are junk and you need velcro? Or glue them to your feet? Wire has been fastening things way before I was born and still sold for fastening today!

Not all earth anchors are created equal
But they all would keep your traps and raccoons in place.
I am not a big fan of the Berkshire variety myself though because they are usually damaged when pulling and not very reusable- hence disposable i guess
The issue I have with extension cables around a tree is that many critters climb even 3 legged and that can cause issues
I plan to use the plastic pipe mounts thoughh, thanks for the reminder of those from my trrapping course.

I use 18 inch earth anchors that are permanently attached to my DP traps... I don't need a tree to attach to and there ain't no way a coon is pulling it out.... Holds bobcats and coyotes with no problem. And thieves can't pull them out.

  • @gobblergetter

I use a solid loop on each end, wrap the tree , put one loop thru the other and connect the dp with a j hook in the universal swivel hole. Pinch shut with j hook tool.
No one can steal the trap with out tools.
Also the adjustable loop is fine till a big boar coon pulls that loop so tight it can't be opened.

Great video, one observation. On the adjustable end of the cable, why don’t you just clamp the short end of the loop and let the cable slide through the other side. This would eliminate the stop on the short end of the loop.

Yeah Wildman the cables okay but like I say it's going to get all tangled up and you're going to have to untangle the raccoon best thing to do is just nail the the DP with a 2in fence staple right to the tree they ain't pulling out of that buddy and they're not going to get all tangled up

The trouble with using plastic pipe to hold the dog proofs on trees is the norther OHIO Raccoon have found out if they pull the trap down the bait ( Cat food & Bacon ) will spill out .

    • @NBWildman
      @NBWildman  Год назад

to fix that just put two screws instead of one about an inch apart...then they can't rotate the clip

  • @johnlindsay8630

Like I say buddy stop wasting your time 2 inch fence staple it'll hold a raccoon it'll hold a fox it'll hold a coyote if it has to put one on I don't know if you'll be able to get him in Canada do winch but look around and ya don't you don't have to put it to the swivel just put it like a foot 12in or whatever up on the tree and I yeah it'll hold a raccoon and because it's short the raccoon will get tangled up
