Thanks for watching guys! Blake my daughter had a temp of 38.1 today so has had a COVID test and we’re all self isolating till her results come back. So no vids for a few days. She’s fine though and to be honest You couldn’t tell she was even unwell! Cheers Guys 💪
Hope you are all ok nothing matters more than 👪
Andy Gorman facts!
All the best to your family. Hopefully a lack of youtube videos will drop the prices of the clubs I'm watching...
you should do a trump style return.. (make us laugh if it wasn't so serious)
aKeckers1 haha best comment ever 😅
Interesting video. I recently have bought various second hand clubs and have been surprised at some of the prices on eBay. Pretty sure I have paid over the odds with many of mine
MIZUNO ST180 DRIVER - £155
COBRA F7 3 WOOD - £120
COBRA F7 HYBRID - £70
PING G5 IRONS 3 TO SW - £110
Pretty happy with the clubs though
The Ping irons seem like a good price to me!
I'm going to drop one you've missed. Maxfli Revolution black dot irons. On evilBay for under £100, and they are excellent. Picked up a 4 iron for £20 the other day. Lovely feel and and great club. Also pitted my Callaway x-forged 51/12 (2007) wedge against several newer wedges at my local shop/range, and i kept my 2007 club. It was just better.
I totally agree about the prices. I got a full set of Titleist AP1’s 4-G for $250 a few years ago and he threw in a 4&3 hybrid. That’s 10 clubs for $250.
I love your reviews on older but solid performing affordable gear! I know the importance of a proper fitting, but I also love finding great deals and buying somewhat blindly. Then if it doesn't work for me, I'll sell or trade or gift it to a youngster or Senior with crappy equipment. It's a great way for Gear Junkies to get to try a ton of equipment, for an affordable price. I love pulling in to my driveway and seeing that long skinny package! I've used many of your reviews as a guide! This is definitely my favorite channel for Golf Equipment content.
Ben Ross are great, so good on price too. Hope you are all well Simon!
Wilson Staff irons best for value and performance
Thinking along those lines Cameron. Do you game Wilson irons yourself?
@@awp7662 yeah, C300 Forged irons 4-PW standard lofts & lies, with KBS Tour 105 Stiff flex shafts. Fantastic. Picked up a club length in distance, they fly high, really good spin, have a bit of tech with the power holes for off centre strikes, and feel pretty soft. Some of the ball flights from toey strikes I’ve had are quite amazing
@@cameronloveless1751 nice! I'm thinking a d7 forged + staff model blade combo. Also looking at Srixon z585 + 785 combo
@@awp7662 wow! ok...That could be interesting, very different clubs to look at and also different lofts, may not be the best combo set. You’d probably have to go with two 6 irons! Might pick the Srixons up cheap now the new ZX5 & ZX7 are out. Don’t think the new models look as good as the old ones Too busy, too much going on
@@cameronloveless1751 you're not kidding! Just looked up the lofts and that definitely wouldn't work! Z785 it is then!
I agree with most of your assessments, but I'd like to add a few more:
Underrated putters - Rife Aussie and Island series (pre-Evnroll). A great selection of Ping-style head shapes and some REALLY attractive mallets (Mr. Beasley, Barbados, etc,)
Underrated fairway woods - Callaway Hawkeye (dirt cheap and a million loft options), Mizuno T-Zoid (original beige or Forged dark blue) and Titleist 906F2/F4
Underrated wedges - Nike Engage. Nice straight leading edge and a few different sole options.
Underrated irons - Hogan Apex Edge Pro, Bridgestone J33 Combo, Ping i10, Titleist 962 (classic with weak lofts), Callaway X16 Pro Series
Underrated drivers - TM Aeroburner TP, Callaway Big Bertha Alpha series, Titleist 910 D2 or D3.
Love it!! “SLDR goes a mile but it’ll send your bad shots everywhere”. Absolutely correct. I’ve got one and my mate reckons it’s broken because the bad shots shouldn’t be that bad. Want to buy it for £250?? 😂
i have one and hit it great. You got to up the loft. So if normally you play a 9.5 driver, crank it to 11.5 and put the weight at the neutral setting.
I know I'm late to this video, but so excited as I just switched to the YES "Nicky" and you're so right! I dropped 1 just don't 3 putt anymore!
I just bought a new mallet putter on line for $49US. It is made by a little company in Beaverton, Oregon.
Best putter I've ever played. The three times I've played with it, I've dropped everything inside 8 feet, and I'm canning the odd 30 footer, with only two three putts in the three rounds. Cheap and effective, that's the ticket. (The three putts are my fault, of course. But I am a notoriously bad putter, so I am happier than a clam.)
You know you've made it when your video's actually have an effect on EBay club prices!!!
SAS = Best Golf Content on RUclips!
Hope family is all good.
SLDR 460 S: Got no issues with mine if you ignore the fact that I aim 50 yards left to find the middle of the fairway.
Titleist 913 Fd low spin and H in my bag 👍
Hope your daughter is okay! Great vids as always!
I have and had my YES! putter in and out of the bag for about 10 years now. finally going for a putter fitting in November. but ti think I'm going to hang onto it forever Simon. no market to big or small will let me ever part with it. cheer from 🇨🇦
Totally agree on the Yes putters. I have a Callie putter that I bought new 4 years ago. Best putter I have ever used and it has an antique finish so the head looks the same as the day I bought it.
Sorry to hear about your daughter. Hope she gets better soon. Re Yonex gear, my driver is a Yonex XPG HD that I bought secondhand 3 years ago. It is excellent! It cost me £129 and I've more than had my moneysworth out of it. Great video yet again!!!!
I picked up a Cleveland Smart Square putter 2-3 years ago for £15 on Ebay and there was loads of them because no one cares for Cleveland putters but even now the cheapest on Ebay is £60. Still a great putter for the price, very solid face and nice MOI mallet head. But the best bit for me is the square markings help line up the putt and a good alternative to the famous Odyssey 2 Balls.
That's when i love u the most.... Honesty... Thank you mate!!!! Hope Everyone safe at home
Thanks Boss, we are all good 👌
I have an SLDR with a 60 gram stiff shaft and I love it honestly
I bought a Ping G 5 driver at my local market in great condition with head cover for 20 euros. After some practice on the range its now in my bag and I know its not as forgiven as to days drivers but in my opinion its fantastic. Iv'e been playing golf along time and still play off ten at 65 years old enough said.
I bought a cheap Benross driver and it's transformed my game from the tee. Also agree about RBZ driver, just couldn't hit the thing a few years back
Wilson Staff Infiniti putters are excellent and you can pick them up brand new for less than most 2nd hand putters - they look great and feel great .... am looking for a 2nd hand set of forged irons but they are going for silly money - 5yr old (5-W) for nearly £500 .. madness so will keep my knackered AP2 710's and maybe get them refurbed and the grooves sorted out instead!
You got the video absolutely right. It's so good having a pro golfer spelling it out. To re-enforce it, eBay is full of everything you spoke about at inflated prices as people looked to get into golf during the Covid time. And thats not a bad thing. Clubs need more golfers and it is the best sport in the world as far as i am concerned. But the majority listened to overwhelming reviews and paid through the nose for something that wasn't right for them. I hope the prices drop, and it gets sensible again,. Great video Simon. Love the content.
honesty how refreshing love these videos
Good call on Benross drivers - they are very good value and always have been. Wouldn't argue with the call for Yes putters too.
Underrated putter - CLEVELAND.
@Jake Baillie I've been using the Tfi range for 2 years. 3 months ago, like you, tried and bought the FRONTLINE model 4 and it's like auto-pilot from 12 foot and in.
A putter that actually has something technologically different.
@Jake Baillie I love Cleveland as a brand very underated in the UK market.
Yep 100%. Got a Cleveland tfi with a superstroke and it’s unreal for my game
YES!!! I agree 100%!!! In the last 3-4 years, Cleveland has put out some Awesome Putters. They perform great, feel great, and the prices are unbelievable. The Huntington Beach Softs are like $130 new and you can get em in mint for $50-60 on eBay. You can't go wrong with Cleveland Putters.
@Jake Baillie Yep! I agree! Performance to Cost wise, the Frontline models are hard to beat! I think Cleveland's last 4 Putter lines are as good as anything out their.
I always kept an eye on Yes putter just in case I saw one I liked I knew I would be able to get it for cheap, sadly I think this is going to change now! Be interesting to see if all the underrated items mentioned in this video creep up in price!
Great video again 👍🏻
Good sound advice just cancelled order from Callaway saved £600 !!!!!! Now going to look 2nd hand. 🏌️♂️🏌️♂️🏌️♂️
I play sldr driver and I love it. It's a great budget driver
I bought three Benross drivers for £30 a few years back. I use one, gave one to my brother in law and gonna list the spare one tomorrow 🤣 thanks Simon.
Talk about coincidence .Lol just bought a set of pristine yonex irons mins ago for my son 15 pounds, bought brand new wilson 52 deg harmonised wedge feels and looks like vokey for 40 pounds ,a demo rife blade putter for 40 pounds and a never hit Srixon 565 driver with xstiff miyazaki shaft for just over 100 pounds. Hope you right about those yonex irons. 😀
I got a Taylormade r7 quad 3 wood for £35. And it’s an awesome club. Likewise. A callaway ft9 for £45 and a full set of forged srixon i701 tour irons for £80. Also a pair of cg15 Cleveland wedges for £60 delivered There are some incredible out there if you look.
Simon, I hope everyone is ok, look after the family first mate. Great content as always, keep it up.
Great video Matt great to see someone who doesn`t constantly plug all the overpriced)quipment out there.Have never bought a new club in my life as there are always great bargains in the second hand market (present time excepted) Don`t think i`ll change my ways at 76 years young.
Always look forward to your videos..Hope your family get the all clear.Good Luck
Used to be a TM driver guy for years then they brought out the R1 and for me the forgiveness went out of the window never owned a TM wood since.
Just picked up a full set 4 - pw Titleist DCI 981 irons look almost new condition $10 and included were a 51⁰ & 56⁰ Cleveland tour action wedges.
Completely agree with the Callaway wedge comments.
I sold an MD3, chipped and dinked all over, grip fraying and started to rust....over 50 quid!
I had it since new, so a few years old,but only paid 100 for it. Wouldn't buy a second hand one though.
What are your thoughts on Honma wedges? Specifically the TW-W4 last year? Still selling for near 150 new, managed to get two in fantastic condition for just over 100 quid.
I do Love a good Simon rant! lol
My only quibble is that you should say "over-priced" rather than "overrated".
100
So true about wedges. I recently sold a set of 3 Cleveland 588 RTX wedges for £190 on eBay. Bought them at different times over the last couple of years for under £50.
Simon, firstly I hope you and your family are well and your little one is getting better.
On the subject of overpriced clubs, I own a set of Ping G irons 5/sw. Purchased new 3 yrs ago for £525. Recently see a set in average condition on a well known online 2nd hand retailer for over £400. Crazy
I have Wilson Staff FG tour F5 irons (5 to PW) that i bought 2 yrs ago and i love them!!
also my putter is a Wilson staff Infinite Bucktown which I bought new for £89 and I love it too, tried the ping sigma at the same time but i like a responsive face and the insert just didn't do it for me.
3 Cleveland 588 RTX wedges 52, 56 and 60, paid £60 each new for them, and guess what...yep I love them too!!
The first driver I ever purchased was an sldr and I had no clue about it’s reputation until recently but I believe I got a good deal on it only spending 70 usd on it about 2 years ago from Dicks
Simon I currently hit a TM Burner super fast 9.5* stiff flex driver between 280-300 yards with anywhere from a nice draw to a duck hook. Looking to upgrade for something a little more consistent but keeping the distance.
Great video! I'd also add Cleveland putters and Adams irons and hybrids to the underrated list.
Adams were always well known for well regarded hybrids as their strong point.
I bought an old adams 3 hybrid and this is the best hybrid i have hit. forgiving, high, and long.
Don't know too much started playing 3 months ago, but I picked up an old Taylor made Burner 08 reg stiffness for $26 bucks from the PGA super store and hit 250 yards. Really feel l lucked out.
Watched this again and I am with you on most of the clubs you talked about. I haven't played the Ben Ross. Living on the other side of the pond. Yonex has to be a great iron for the money. No one here in the USA plays them. Well, not all. Amazing prices for these underrated ions.
Hope your Daughter is well plus the rest of the family. Just love the second hand stuff, it's so much more interesting than the mundane testing of new gear which generally is no better! Keep up the good work and hope you're back at it soon⛳🏌️🤞🏼👍🏼
Great info Simon. Hope your daughter is better. Take care of your family and stay safe.
In 2023 I got a Taylormade SLDR for $30 at PGA superstore lol. Named it the "Dirty 30" and its my favorite fun club when I;m not being super serious
i was hoping to find a YES with the c-groves for a bargain, and now that you mentioned it, the price went up! lol!
I play a yonex driver from long ago. It has printing on it that it’s a graphite head. It strikes well.
Haven’t seen a sas golf rant in a while lol 😂 love the video
I had a YES putter years ago and really liked it. Nothing wrong with them at all!
The SLDR is still one of the best Driver for distance if you hit the ball straight I rarely miss the Fairway and I bought the Sim2 it was 5 yds more in simulator than my SLDR....i hit it...Ebay 9.0 adjustable Rogue shaft 60 stiff for 65.00 US.... and Fly Z+ I have 2 75.00 Blue and 100 white rare.. and hit it long and Straight..... not as long as SLDR.....
I do live in the US and I think recently the UK got a Callaway preowned site but odyssey putter‘s stroke lab or o works are going for anywhere from 75 to 125$ usd in very good condition. Callaway preowned does have a eBay store which has kept the eBay prices from individual sellers down.
Plus the Callaway preowned shipping warehouse is an hour and a half away from my house so it usually gets sent to me the next day if not the day after
I recommend a Yes putter to my mate who has just started, loads of them on FB marketplace.
Genuine and informed, what more could one ask ?
Considering the price of equipment in India, the US and UK are considered cheap. I bought a TaylorMade Rescue hybrid for about $55. Should be like 10 years old at least
Agree with most of the selections but I'd throw lynx into the under rated irons aswell seriously contemplating selling my cobra f7s for a set lol
Marc, played my best ever golf with Lynx irons and thinking of going back to them. Maybe vt or the forged blades look nice.
A set of Lynx blades on their way Marc⛳🏌️👍🏼
@@awp7662 ohhh nice I did trade my f7s for a set of wilson c200 tonight so they may end up ebay tomorrow
@@awp7662 what ones did you go for
@@marchamilton6233 I picked up a set of the Lynx forged blades 3-pw recoil stiff shafts for £125 from eBay
Hope your daughter is okay! The best golf channel on youtube mate, keep up the good work.
Hope your wee one and all of you are ok! I got a brand new Cleveland with a custom shop RTX4 head for £40! Did really well I think!😉😁
I've hit Tour Edge Exotics for years. Super underrated. Their fairways and hybrids are super solid. Ping G10s are the most solid hybrids I've hit and own.
Best wishes and prayers for little Blake. Stay safe
The SLDR was a pretty good idea in theory but a little flawed in practice. TM moved the CG forward, which at the time was unusual. So, yes, it would increase ball speeds BUT it proved very unforgiving and at lower swing speeds harder to launch. Best pre-owned TM... Aeroburner. That thing goes like hell.
Top video, really enjoyed that. Getting a new/second hand set next year after I have my kidney Transplant in a few weeks.
Will definitely take a look at Yonex.
Keep the videos coming, love the content being produced 👍
Thanks
Chris
All the best for the transplant mate! Appreciate you watching, if I see a good set of yonex’s il make sure to notify you. 👌
@@SASGolf thanks very much 👍
Hi Chris, I read your comment and had to reply. Congrats with the transplant pal, take care and look forward to smashing it down the fairways next year. I can't play at the moment and so I've not hit a ball in almost a year and I am hopeful for next year too. Take care
Good luck, Chris
@@mjsgolf7004 thank you for your message. Fingers crossed you can get out and do the same 👍
Excellent content - thank you and thinking of you and your family at this worrying moment.
Quality vid as usual but will take u up on the sldr comment. It’s made a massive difference to my game. And it’s only the second driver I’ve had in the bag that’s not been there for 2 club lengths 😂😂
THE 2best drivers I have ever played 1ping G10 driver 12.5 degrees draw bias and my gamer the SLDR 12.5degrees dark grey colour head with 57speeder shaft fujikura
The SLDR is a fantastic driver Simon the Taylormade loft up campaign was great for me and I will keep playing it
I bought a set of yonex z force irons for 65 pound for 5 iron to Sw. powerful irons . Highly recommended
Used club prices are pretty crazy right now. imo I passed on a few good deals for used irons earlier this year. I'm kicking myself now. I guess I'll wait some more. I don't really 'need' different irons anyway, just looking for something that has a bit of help when I catch shots a little low in the face.
💯
I think waiting is the best idea. Just for kicks I looked at drivers and I went back to 2014-2015 models and they are expensive for my tastes.
Love to see a review of Macgregor clubs, like the rise and fall, which were the best vintage ones and what you think of the new products they still produce
All the very best Simon Hope all the family come through ok. Great content as usual but priority clear.
Look forward to hearing all well. Cheers mate
Cleveland putters for sure underrated. Soft series, older tfi2135, tfi satin lines. So good and cheap new so even better deals 2nd hand..just less popular so may have to search a bit
agree about the Titleist 913 drivers/fairways, it wasn't until they introduced the TS gen that the 913s were eclipsed
Good no nonsense advice thanks Simon
A month ago I bought a very good set of Mizuno MP55 irons from Ebay , $220.00. The most forgiving MP irons ever. They went straigbt into the bag. Butter, Baby!
Great video with great advice.
Branding appears to be everything. I have my Dad's Tommy Armour irons that he is no longer able to use.
Was unable to get so much as an enquiry for them.
Given what appears to be a change in the market, I might give it another go.
Was literally screaming yes putters at the top of my lungs. The yes Tracy changed my world $50 aud spent and it’s literally taken an av of 4 strokes off my game. Might be time to sell it since you’ve mentioned it now 😂
So true Simon, the secondhand market is fast becoming like the NEW club market, a bit of a joke and a total rip off. No wonder less people are playing golf. Great vid and needed to be said, keep up the good work .
Absolutely right.. just got some htx gold 7 - sw, £65.. so easy to hit..
Great vids..keep it up pal..
I used to play a lot as a teen but then injured my knee playing football and stopped playing golf. I need to get some irons that are second hand and seriously have no idea on what to get and my budget would be max £200 for some second hand ones 😩
I want to add 2 clubs to the best value/quality clubs you can buy used:
1) Callaway Xr-16 9 Degree Driver - can be bought for $70. If you then buy online a 6.0 HZRDUS Smoke Shaft for $90 - you will have a $160 Driver. If you set the 9-degree driver open/de-lofted to 8 degrees, and play the shaft/playing_length at 45.25", I will challenge anyone to find a better/hotter modern driver that costs $500
2) Taylormade Gapr High #4 22 Degree Hybrid - you can buy the head for $60-$70. Purchase a Steelfiber 110gram parallel tip X-Flex shaft for $50 - all in with grip and adjustable shaft tip you will be $140. That $140 club, which you can open/close from 23.5 degrees to 20.5 degrees, will be better than any hybrid you can buy for twice the price
i got that callaway xr driver and i love it, got it on ebay for 70 dollars (won an auction that no one else was interested in), i crush it straight (took some practice) and last year i used to drive with a 2 iron, idk how much of it is me and how much is the XR driver but man i don't know if i'll ever change that club.
@@reiko57 I went to a Callaway Demo day last year that had every head and shaft combo to try with multiple fitters/launch monitors etc. I hit my XR-16 with my HZRDUS shaft first so they could get all the data - and then every head they had, including all the Tour Diamond Heads, and none of them could beat the XR-16. When you open the 9 degree XR head to 8 degrees, it produces near-perfect launch conditions of 13 launch with 2100 spin - and the head is light and aerodynamic so it's fast through the air. In the end, a number of the fitters asked to hit the club and were all killing it. I'm sure, tested by a robot the newest drivers might be technically better at more spots on the face, but for the price, especially if you swap out the flimsy stock shaft for a reasonably priced eBay upgrade, you simply cannot buy a better driver with more price performance. And I also own the Taylormade M2, and like it, but the XR-16, with that HZRDUS shaft, is slightly longer because it is faster through the air.
@@wallstreetoneil mind doesn't have the stock shaft either, someone upgraded it, it was in such good condition i just figured they couldn't hit it (which is wierd because i hit it dead square, just played yesterday and did not mis-hit it once) and thought that it was probably going to preform very poorly but like i said i put in quite a bit of practice and the results are definitely worth it, i agree it should be de-lofted, i hit mine very high into the air sometimes but it goes so straight i can't mess with anything lol. i would tell anyone looking for a driver, especially if it has an upgraded shaft or you already have one- get a callaway xr driver, it's excellent.
Last year I bought some MP-14s for $80, repainted them, regripped em, & sold them for $220 about 3 months later
Love the video! Love my Benross Hotspeed Driver! Keep the advice coming as it’s always appreciate 👍
Completely agree. Abbie putter picked up for £40 is stunning and still decent in terms of roll and touch. Budget Scotty!
Love this video - Just saw a couple of Yonex stets of irons on Aussie eBay from 2007/2010 - is that too old for a beginner set?
Underrated- Cleveland Huntington Beach Putters. There aren’t many milled putters of this quality for under £100 brand new! So I’m sure you could pick them up cheap second hand!
Agree with Cleveland wedges , the Rotex 2.0 CB are awesome 👍
Simon you have doubled the price of the Homna driver for now, fair play!
Haha I thought I had a steal the other day... But realised I'm one in 35000 haha
So I managed to put a set togethwr for my friend for 300 pound.. Callaway big Bertha 454, TM RBZ 3&5 Wood.. Cobra ssi irons, couple of vokey wedges 52 and 58degrees.. And a ping pal putter, and wee ram recovery club jst for the sake of it.. All that and a bag for about 330 total all through gumtree, Facebook marketplace, and beleive it or not the putter and wedges I got in a charity shop
Yonex drivers and hybrids worth a look.
Year old drivers can be had for £50-£100.
Sending best regards Simon. Loving the vids and be good if you could review some hybrids from outside the big manufacturers that are value. All the best
Absolutely nailed the underrated putter category. Yes! putters are solid. They come in diverse range of shapes, weights, sizes. And, they readily available at reasonable price points.
Underated putters. Cleveland. I got a brand new Cleveland elevado satin online for £72. They came out about 3 years ago but it's still a beauty, especially brand new
Cleveland is a good shout, but used it for wedges. Agree though 👍
@@SASGolf I can't argue with that. Have 2 cleveland wedges also. My 56 RTX has 16 degrees bounce and it's like cheating. Great from the rough around the greens also which I'm in a lot
Good putters, got a cleveland square strike “nearly belly” length after the longer length were banned, very good value.
I just bought two j40 Bridgestone drivers!! Great drivers, something a bit different!!
Engage Cleveland praise auto like! I generally like Cleveland irons and wedges. Drivers are decent and I bought a hibore 3 wood off eBay that became my favorite than the law of averages hits and it's still great but not as great.
i like the wilson infinite putters i have the windy city, they are reasonably priced.
I scored an SLDR 460s for 16 bucks the condition was okayish, when I hit it right it goes flying for miles upon miles but since I'm a 22 handicap not so good my long game is pretty shit because of it, those looking to buy one, if you're getting one below a 50 bucks then go for it nothing beats it's ball flight and distance on the wrong strike
Hi love these videos, I spend a lot of time on ebay not to make money but just because I love tinkering. I wanted to try the Taylormade Original One Mini Driver, but they are going for around £300, I know they only came out last year but that is crazy. Hope everyone is ok there.
