That’s a crazy request. Asking us to pit the Beatles against each other? Paul has so many fanfreakingtastic excellent songs and I think John would have as many if he had lived as long. George and Ringo wrote a couple of really good ones. My top pick changes based on my mood at the time. Right now I’ll go with imagine.
I took my mom to see Paul Mccartney in 2013. We were 7th row and we could feel the heat coming off of the pyrotechnics during live and let die. It was amazing. My mom passed away unexpectedly in 2014 and I also treasure the memories of that concert. She was a huge Beatles fan and she introduced me to their music. It was a magical night that I will never forget ✨
I am glad you got to share that moment with her. Life is all about making the most of the moments we get and remembering to appreciate the time we had.
Wow. My name is Chris and I have the exact same story, same years too. Reading your comment made me do a double take. Life is about making memories and at least we did that. 🙏🏼
Sad about ya mum man. Nice to have that memory tho of seeing Paul McCartney together🙏🏻. I seen him live in perth god must of been 5 years ago I think. One of the best experiences in my life.
This only shows just how diverse a genius Paul is. And having seen him live several times, it’s still one of the best moments in a show filled with amazing song after amazing song.
Just saw Paul McCartney last Sunday and he KILLED with this song. It was done hard and heavy with full pyro and fireworks. It was almost like Paul was doing the GnR version. He was so good all night but Live and Let Die was a real standout.
I have seen Paul and Linda in Toronto.and Paul in saryause n.y. and both times were fantastic.his voice is still great.grate band.i love the way he talks about the songs also.verry cool.Beatles best band ever.come on John and Paul wrote about 300 songs and sang and played them.☮️✝️ unbelievable 💖 know auther band has even come close.
I saw his June 12th concert, in Baltimore. The pyrotechnics and fireworks were amazing on "Live and Let Die"! The whole concert, 37 songs, was terrific!
I think Sir Paul’s solo and Wings music is fantastic. To this day one of my favorite albums is Wings Over America. Thanks Prof!! Beautiful post once again.
Oh YEAH - maybe the best live album ever, and the sound is incredible for 1976. The show in Largo, Maryland was my first concert... My understanding is that Macca taped every show, mixed them all down, then took the best three of each song, remixed them, took the best one and did a final mix - that's Wings Over America.
cool didnt know the story behind i found the triple vinly foldout great deal like 20 bucks but doesnt have original poster same as foldout photo but yeah great live record one i of best in the 70s and there were many
@@caramanico1 On that tour he had a horn section which he hasn't had many times during his solo career. I know he had it on a tour 1 or 2 years prior Corona.
One of my favorite songs that any Beatle ever did. What an incredible song. You know, last fall, I was talking to one of the teachers at my school who has been there for longer than I’ve been alive. I told her that this was the #2 song on her birthday. She was amazed by that and told me that she loves watching James Bond movies. None other than Bond. Paul’s a legend, man. Also, Professor, you have good timing given that Sir Paul is turning eighty on this very day. I am wishing him the best of his octogenarian days. What a milestone.
Nice catch on his burfdee being today. It's a good age to get to. Speaking of school, for my upper/grammar school we had a half hour coach trip. Our regular driver would often play this over the stereo (along with many other classics) and it was guaranteed to get the whole coach singing along.
@@duromusabc .....looooooove that G-Hits! ...I always held on to me "All the Best" CD (because of the tune, "Once Upon A Long Ago")...but, I'm DYIN' to get "Pure McCartney", but, Bills, ya know....
Live and Let Die is the ultimate Bond title song. Literally captures the essence of who James Bond is. One of McCartney’s best. When I saw Paul play at Miller Park in Milwaukee several years ago it was the show stopper on a night when it was 80 plus degrees with brutal humidity and Paul and his band played for over 3 hours with the roof open!
Live and Let Die is only second to Goldfinger as a Bond theme. But I listen to Paul McCartney regularly, one of my all time favorites. I was a little kid and my dad too me and my brothers to see the new Bond film. Of course we were hooked. Such an amazing experience. I did get to see Paul perform it later on and I was just as electric.
As great as “Live And Let Die” is, my favorite Bond song is “For Your Eyes Only”, sung by the great Sheena Easton. I must admit, though, my reasons for this are personal. I recorded the audio for five of the MTV “Rock Against Drugs” public service announcements, and Sheena was one of the artists. I found her to be a total pro, and just DELIGHTFUL! I’m telling you - if you ever had the chance to spend any time with Sheena, you couldn’t help but fall in love with her. She’s amazingly pretty in person, and just wonderful to work with. What’s really astounding is that she’s such a tiny lady, yet she can get these HUGE sounds to come out of her. I’ve worked with Belinda Carlisle (formerly of The Go-Go’s) and also with The Bangles on the MTV project, and they were all great to work with. But Sheena was the one who stands out in my mind as the best of the stars involved with “Rock Against Drugs”. Any time I hear her voice, I find myself stopping whatever I’m doing for a moment and thinking, “WOW, What a voice!”, and then I realize it’s the lovely Sheena Easton, and then there’s a flood of happy memories of the time I worked with her.
I saw Paul in concert at MetLife Stadium for his Got Back tour, and the crowd went crazy during "Live and Let Die." Wonderful song as well as wonderful pyrotechnics (including both fire and fireworks).
June 28th - Happy 80th Birthday, Sir Paul! Grateful your many incredible talents and contributions to the Rock & Roll era. My life, for one, would never had been the same if it weren’t for you and your three mates from England! 🎶🎸🏅
Sir Paul's B-day is today. He was born June 18, 1942. "We're gonna have a good time!" Fans and admirers around the world are wishing him many more years to come, this day.
Loved this song as a kid. Appreciate it more as an adult. I thoroughly enjoyed this video, especially the pic and personal story about your dad. Touching and special. Music is magical in so many ways.
Just saw Paul in concert (for the first time) in Baltimore last weekend. Such a great show - what a legend! And a great talent and entertainer. So glad I got to see him. And the pyrotechnics with Live and Let Die were CRAZY. 😁
It was 1990. I lived in Detroit. Tickets for McCartney went on sale for the Chicago show, I bought 2. A couple hours latter, tickets went on sale for the Detroit show. I bought 2. Couple hours later, Cleveland, I bought 2. The next day, tickets went on sale for the new York show at shea stadium- wher thier first us show was. I had already spent all of my money. I couldn't get the tickets.. i was prettt bummed. My mom called me and asked me to come over for dinner- i was 20 at the time- after dinner, my dad gave me the receipt/conformation for 2 tickets to shea.... I cried.
@@mrb152 I saw him in Baltimore. The pyrotechnics were awesome! and he was so funny, when the pyro was done, he pretended to cover his ears and be scared
Blasted? They're just envious of Paul's talent. This song is actually a testament of his versatility which appears to be boundless. The dual platform piece captures the full essence of a Bond movie. No question. Those questioning this song needs to get a LIFE which is obvious they're lacking at. Macca just laughs at them.
I really appreciated this episode. It’s a great song and you highlighted its significance wonderfully in both the real of music and movies. I also appreciated the story of taking your dad to see Sir Paul, a personal anecdote is always touching. I took my wife to see Sir Paul on his “One on One” tour and when THAT song came on, I was really BLOWN AWAY! Never seen so many people STAND for three hours straight.
The little reggae part in the middle of "Live & Let Die" ("What does it matter to you, when you've got a job to do, you've got to do it well . . .") Paul has said that that part was Linda's idea and contribution to the song. The song was also the first time since the Beatles break-up that Paul worked once again with George Martin as the Producer of the song.
Fantastic as it was, the recording is almost a sleepy lullaby compared to Seeing/Hearing it LIVE in a Stadium 🏟 show. The Bombastic effects of the Explosions, Strobes and Lasers add a Physical element that the ears alone can't quite produce !!
Saw them in the Omni in Atlanta...live and let die was beginning, I was at the concession stand and there 4 rent-a-cops standing by, when the fireworks hit with the drum and the boom went off, one of the rent a cops nearly jumped out of his shoes, reached for his gun and the others laughed their asses off.
I remember always hearing Wings music on Delta airlines radio stations. My Dad worked for Delta & everytime we flew (which was quite a bit by 70s standards) as soon as I'd get my headphones, I'd immediately plugged them & frantically search for that station that always played Paul McCartney & Wings. This song has always been in my top 5
I was blessed enough to get to see Sir Paul on his latest tour. He played it, and I was in awe. I love Wings, Paul, and the Beatles. This episode helps me to remember why.
Love this song. Love this channel. This is my favorite James Bond movie. We were living in Bangkok when Man Weith The Golden Gun was filmed. Met Roger Moore and the cast. That memory still stays with me. Keep up the great work, Prof. Today's album count: I have 3 out of the 6 you have showcased.
Just watching Paul at Glastonbury 22 and to my surprise he’s singing well and putting on a good show of course he’s got some very good backing people with him he’s doing really well for a guy of 80!
Welp, every Beatle is now officially an octogenarian. Another one bites the dust. Happy birthday to a legend! 🎉 EDITED TO ADD: Crap, I forgot that George Harrison is not officially an octogenarian just yet. He will be in February, though! 😊
WOW!!!! Eighty...in 1964...my high school freshman year..one of the girls, when asked what she wanted most to be answered.. "Mrs Paul McCartney"...we're both 72 now
The best song of my bucket-list experience, seeing Paul McCartney live in 2016! The pyro was amazing and the energy in the room was palpable. Happy 80th birthday, Paul, my favorite Beatle! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
McCartney is, and always will be, my favorite musician/singer/songwriter. This song is timeless and has remained a fan favorite in concert to this day. Paul is a musical genius indeed!
"When you were young/and your heart was open book/you used to say live and let live" followed by the back up singers very Lennonesque "you know you did, you know you did" always felt like a hidden barb, directed at John during this time when they were still feuding.
It does have a vibe like that but they'd actually made up by then and were keeping conflict on the low down. Lennon got a lot of backlash for his attack song How Do You Sleep. And Paul was getting annoyed by endless questions about the Beatles and the fighting. Paul contacted John and they made a peace agreement at the end of 72, from then on they were chatting on the phone regularly and eventually the business conflicts passed.
@@hellsjamfleas Correct Helen and an important correction too. There is enough spoken about the feuding but not enough about the true regard and appreciation they had for one another.
I can’t say how much I enjoy your content! I recently saw Sir Paul in concert on his most recent tour. He played live and let die and and it brought down the house! Best to ever do it
Some years ago I saw Paul in concert. This was one of songs he played. The accompanying pyrotechnics made it totally fantastic! It probably was the highlight of an already super show! It was a great show, a dream come true for me. I’ve been a Beatles fan from the time they started in the early 1960’s. They truly changed the world of music!
Got a sunburn from the explosions from sitting in the second row of a McCartney show when he performed Live & Let Die. Every time I've gone to a McCartney concert I am always in anticipation of that song and it's theatrics.
Always have loved all of Paul’s music. All the Bond soundtracks you mentioned were good but my favorite would be “ Live and let die” Thanks for keeping the music alive!
Saw this live last month at the former Carrier Dome (now called the JMA Wireless Arena). Indoors, the sound and pyro was absolutely terrifying. 35000 fans left stunned and deaf. Outstanding!
Glad to hear you're going to cover more from The Beatles and their solo careers, although I can't help feeling like they're always underrated, the truth is they can't be overrated so it just feels like there's never enough said, it's not very often you can point your finger at a specific group of people and say, "There! Those people!! They changed the world!!!" 😉☺
They were the first to become the most famous group of young men with talent to ever be as successful and famous as they became. The BEATLES were part of growing up at the time. They were and still are the most successful group/band EVER. No one will ever eclipse the FAB FOUR. NO ONE!!! 😊✌
This song still packs a packs a punch. But, my favorite McCartney tune is Uncle Albert, Admiral Halsey. Isolation by John Lennon, Isn't it a Pity by George Harrison, and Back Off Boogaloo by Ringo Starr are the other three.
My mother assembled John Lennon’s, 1964 Rickenbacker Guitar. My mother... Dorothy J. Tandle was working at (RIC) Electro Strings Rickenbacker Guitars back in February 1964 in Santa Ana California. The phone rang at our house at 6:10AM with the GM of Ric Ward Deaton asking if my mom could come in ASAP to work on a special rush order guitar My mother was asked to follow Lennon’s Custom guitar from start to finish. This was the Black & White semi-hollow bodied “Miami” model (serial number db122, d=1964, b=Feb.). After the wood shop cut out the body, she sanded the body, then worked on the neck & fret board, then she assembled the guitar after the finish was applied. After finishing the guitar, she gave it to the tuner/inspector. He was a good friend and gave mom a ride home three times per week. He asked my mother “Since you built it, what song would you like to hear?” My mother said…“Peanut Butter And Jelly”. That was a song she wrote and the tuner knew the cords. My mother sang the song as it was being played. SO… The very first song ever played on John Lennon’s famous 325 was a song my mother wrote about the messes I made as a child. There is a “GREEN” check mark inside the guitar. She did all the work herself. She did the same for many custom orders at that time. She was trained in all areas except the wood shop and finishes. She assembled George's 360-12 string first ever, John's 325-12 string first ever, Paul's 4001S Left handed Bass first ever. Ten years later…..In the 1974, I worked for “Fender Musical Instruments” in Fullerton California. I made two Fender Rhodes Electric Pianos for John Lennon/Apple Studios. The one used on “Walls and Bridges” “Well if they’re gonna send one, send two cause I’d like one as well” John Lennon ordering a Fender Rhodes Electric Piano at the Apple studios. (Elton John recorded “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” with the same piano) My mother and myself are the only mother/son that both built an instrument for John Lennon. My mother made guitars for many famous Rockers, including the red guitar that was smashed by Peter Townsend of the WHO and is in the Rock HOF. Chris Squire, Roger Waters, Paul McCartney (left-handed 1964 4001S FG Rickenbacker bass) , John Entwistle, George Harrison’s 12 String. Roger McGuinn 12 string and many others. I have built pianos for “You name it” just about everyone IE: “Pink Floyd” on “Dark Side Of The Moon” It is our little contribution to Classic Rock. I’m very proud of that fact.
My mom “Dotty” made most of special order famous RIC guitars of that era. Harrison‘s, Lennon’s, Townsend’s & McGuinn’s 12 strings. The first time she had to put strings on a 12 string with the double tuning head style she had to ask Ward (GM) how to do it and it took him three tries to get it right. Harrison’s 360/12 was the second 12 string ever made, but the first with new tuning design and the model the rest were made after making it the real first Production Model. At their New York meeting, Lennon asked Hall to make him a twelve-string model to match his 325, and in March '64, Rickenbacker shipped a 325-12 Jet-glo guitar to him in London. “Dotty gives our guitars the woman’s touch, that’s why they are so sexy looking” - Ward Deaton GM at RIC 1964
I see the glean in your eyes when you mentioned your father. Made me smile. Thank you. Father’s Day is tomorrow. Remember this all my friends, anyone can be a father, but not everyone can be a Dad. Be a Dad. Love you all.
Live and Let Die the song and movie are a couple of my favorites. The song could have easily replaced Bohemian Rhapsody in Wayne’s World as that classic that you can rock out to unexpectedly. Also the G & R version was just spectacular and reintroduced it to a younger generation. Honestly a toss up for which version I like better. No doubt that this is the absolute best Bond theme.
The G&R version was meh. It’s one of those instances that clear illustrates that distorted guitars are not particularly powerful. And I can’t stand Axl’s vox.
I loved this song when I first heard it in 1973. I was all of 13 and to see Jane Seymour, wow! Here is a funny fact, I did not like Duran Duran until I heard a View to a Kill. It was not for this song, quite possibly there would be no View to a Kill that rocked! Great episode. To me Live and Let Die is the greatest song of the Bond series! Thanks for covering it!
Just saw Sir Paul on Thursday night at MetLife Stadium…the final stop on the Got Back tour. Seeing him on stage with Bruce Springsteen still seems surreal for us folks in Jersey. Still buzzing!!!! 🤯🤯👏🏻👏🏻 And “Live and Let Die” STILL leaves the audience blown away! Always a show highlight!
"Live and Let Die," with everything it calls for, is one of the highlights of Paul's concerts; Guns 'n' Roses' version reinvents the song by evoking the mean streets of L.A. that were a huge part of their music.
Great video Professor, thank you! Live and Let Die is possibly THE greatest movie theme song ever written. It was a real game changer! This also might be my favorite McCartney song of all time, although there are a lot of contenders for that spot. I appreciated that you shared your experience with your dad. The first time I saw Paul play this live, it brought me to my feet and cheer before I even realized what I was doing. It was a moment I will never forget.
My top five favorite Bond theme songs, in chronological order: Live and Let Die, Nobody Does It Better (Carly Simon), A View To A Kill (Duran Duran), Goldeneye (Tina Turner), and You Know My Name (Chris Cornell). Nobody Does It Better is actually one of the first pop songs I remember getting really hooked on when I was a small kid (like six or seven), years before I even knew what James Bond was. And Goldeneye is the Bond theme that has probably grown on me the most over the years the more I’ve listened to it.
They're all quality tunes. But, I also really liked Shirley Bassey/Goldfinger, Nancy Sinatra/You Only Live Twice, and Sheena Easton/For Your Eyes Only.
"Live and Let Die" is a masterpiece but, for me Carly Simon's "Nobody does it Better" caught me by surprise when Bond's parachute opened. I remember exactly where I was when heard that first time while watching the movie and it rates as one of the most sensual songs ever! My cousin married George Martin's Nanny and Paul's song always reminds me of her and the many stories she has shared of the 5 Beatles. (Btw she didnt think much of Yoko). You do a great job bro ... love your channel!
I went this 2022 to Sir Paul's concert at SoFi Stadium to see and listen him play this fantastic song. It was great. Like You said, the Stadium exploded when Live and Let Die was played. Unforgetable memories for me and my husband ❤️
I was young enough to be a McCartney fan first, THEN I found out about the Beatles! I'm glad it happened that way, because people seem to want to tear down Paul's music for not being as good as the Beatles. I got to listen to it without prejudice. I will always be a fan of this terrific musician, my favorite singer/songwriter of all time. His solo stuff was great, and rock critics need to finally admit it. By the way, the line is "in this ever-changing world in which we're livin'", not "in this ever-changing world in which we live in." DJs always make fun of this "improper English" after they play Live and Let Die on the radio.
I too came from that angle so I know exactly where you're coming from. The critics are now slowly admitting to the genius of McCartney but a proper and complete appreciation will sadly come after we have loss this great man. Tragically that is what the human race seem to do time and time again. But you and I and millions of others appreciated him for every contribution as it came to us with great pleasure.
I was 12 when Live and Let Die was in the theaters. My newly-met best friend had just gotten me into Beatles music and now he was going to get me into 007. Talk about being blown away. As a 12 year old, I had never seen anything like it. Then I saw Wings in '76 about 10 rows up from Linda's keyboards, and Live and Let Die blew me away again! Thanks, Chris!
Happy birthday Sir James Paul McCartney, 80 years old today. I've loved you since I first laid eyes on you on the Ed Sullivan show. They were my first concert at the Hollywood Bowl, on August 22, 1964. Every aspect of my life change for the better when I saw the Beatles. P.s. I love you
Dennny Laine was very instrumental in Wings success crafting songs that took Paul’s best ideas and made them better. He helped tremendously with production and arrangements and musicianship. Denny rarely gets mentioned these days but after Paul and Denny’s 10 year run the hits dried up. Paul’s Wings success is in part due to Denny’s behind the scenes talent.
Saw Paul McCartney in Hartford in 2002 for the Back in the US tour...it was my first concert, at 9 years old, and I still remember feeling the heat on my face during the pyro in their performance of Live and Let die...My young mind was in amazement. I was hooked on live music from that point on, 20 years and 100s of concerts later, safe to say that that concert and that song started it all for me.
Great story! The song was a fantastic choice and it reinvigorated the Bond franchise, which was starting to get a little tired by that time. I was theatre usher in '73 when this movie was released and back in those days, we had to stand at the back of the theatre for the whole film. With 3 shows a day, it didn't take long before we had memorized all the scenes and the lines that went with them! Never tired of that dramatic opening song and it still brings back fond memories. Happy belated 80th, Sir Paul!
I grew up as a fan of Wings in the 1970's, and Live And Let Die is absolutely the best song of the 3 five person line-ups. The obvious album that this song could've been included on would've been the "Band On The Run" album. I rank Live And Let Die alongside Wings other classic songs, Jet and Band On The Run.
There was no way Macca was going to include Denny Seiwell's and Henry McCullough's brilliant contributions after they quit Wings just as they were about to fly to Lagos to record the Band On The Run album.
I have watched the full movie of Live and Let Die 2 or 3 times since its release, but i have watched the first 15 minutes of it dozens of times! Thank you Sir Paul. And Happy 80th Birthday!!
I loved the Beatles, but I love all their solo work just as well my favorites from each is, Paul McCartney and Wings, "Listen what the man said", John Lennon, "Imagine ", George Harrison, "My sweet Lord", and Ringo Star, "It don't come easy "! I couldn't imagine the world without their solo work! Thanks for Keeping the music alive Professor!
For me it's one of the best Bond themes. A View To A Kill is up there too. You can here George Martin's influence all over it. Martin always made The Beatles brilliant. Just look at their catalogue before they started working with him. He helped them grow exponentially.
"Another Way to Die" by Jack White and Alicia Keys doesn't get enough love. Even though "Quantum of Solace" is seen as on of the more uneven entries in the Daniel Craig era, that song is friggin' awesome. Another little interesting piece of trivia in the great "Bond song that never got used" catagory was "Man with the Golden Gun" by the original Alice Cooper group in 1974. Of course it was a "cart before the horse" moment, with the band taking it on themselves to write and record it first and then try to sell it to the filmmakers, who ultimately passed and used a much more boring, bland theme song that no one remembers.
The one thing I liked about The Man With the Golden Gun theme used was Lulu sang it, a powerhouse voice in a tiny body. If people didn't like the song, it certainly was NOT her fault.
Intersting information I didn't know. Even though I am an old fart these days (in my fifties but feeling older) I agree about the Jack White/Alicia Keys song. It is just so funky and groovy. It has it all. I even ,ove the video of it. You're the only person I have come across who loves it like I do. Thanks for posting.
1976 Wings over America San Francisco Cow Palace. The 3 of us were in the nose bleed section. We noticed there were seats on the left side 15' from the stage. Away we went. Nobody around. Live and Let Die live was incredible. As a bonus when Sir Paul McCartney left the stage he hesitated, gave us a wink and a wave. AWESOME! Happy 80th Sir Paul
1. Live And Let Die- McCartney; 2.Nobody Does It Better- Carly Simon; 3. For Your Eyes Only-Sheena Easton Some of the best songwriters wrote great words OR great music. Paul McCartney is one of the elite that could do both.
A View To a Kill is my favorite Duran Duran song and movie of all time! And I did like the more rocking version of Guns ‘n Roses version of Live and Let Die better than the original, but no doubt the original is iconic and will go down as a Bond classic.
This seems like Sir Paul’s first foray into symphonic composition. For a 1960’s pop/rock star, it’s pretty mind-blowing. The tempo changes, the very different sections, making an orchestra flat out ROCK… good stuff and paved the way for many things to follow in popular music.
This song has always blown my mind since I can't grasp how one person could write something to intricate with so many tempo changes, but that's just me. Love the GNR remake, too, as Axl Rose captured the emotion perfectly. I used to think the movie was racist (it is in a lot of ways), but it fit in with the blaxploitation era that ultimately financially empowered a lot of Black actors and other Hollywood types.
Live and Let Die is definitely an amazing song with how it changes as it progresses. From starting slow, picking up the pace and going full out fast rock, and with the unexpected slower Reggae bit in the middle. The inclusion of the Reggae section alone makes the song memorable. As to the greatest songs by the members of the Beatles done post Beatles it is difficult to pick just one from each. My choices would be: From Paul with Wings: Live and Let Die, Band On The Run, or Jet. From George: Give me Love, I've Got My Mind Set On You, or My Sweet Lord. From Ringo: Photograph, It Don't Come Easy, or You're Sixteen. From John, Imagine, Woman, or Whatever Gets You Through The Night.
When I was at the McCartney and Wings concert at the Kingdome, June 10th, 1976 when he started playing this song the entire stadium started to go crazy, then the fireworks exploded and I was quite literally BLOWN AWAY! I haven't had a concert experience like that before or since. That's one reason why Paul Mccartney is my most favorite musician of all time. His former Beatle-mate Ringo is my most favorite drummer of all time.
“The artist had a job to do and he did it well, even if it meant giving those other fellas hell”… Hahaha I see what you did there! 😁 I looove Paul & looove James Bond. This is definitely one of the best songs and movies of the entire franchise!! Top 3, IMO, in no particular order: Live and Let Die, Goldfinger, View to A Kill
I knew you were going to dedicate today's video to the great Sir Paul McCartney on his 80th birthday. My favorite musician of all time, thank you so much Professor =)
This was the first Bond movie I actually saw in a theater, and I remember it also being the first time a movie theme song resonated with me, to the point I went looking for the song on a 45 as soon as I could. Still one of my favorite all time songs of any genre, and also still one of my favorite Bond movies. Just classic.
Always happy when a favorite artist gets the Professor of Rock treatment. Live and Let Die is my favorite Bond theme, with View to a Kill coming in a close second.
Live and Let Die is a musical feast for the soul... 2nd best Bond song in my opinion and a very underrated song and band, so much so you didn't even mention the song, The Living Daylights by the mighty A-ha!!
I took my dad to see Sir Paul around 90 when he really started playing Beatles songs at the Linc in Philly. Paul made a big deal about getting in trouble with the Pyro for the song so he brought out the mayor and the fire chief on stage for permission. And it was super loud. Awesome!
Best Bond song ever. Great time for Sir Paul as the great Band On The Run album came shortly after. One more day of vacation tomorrow and it’s back home so cheers from Tablones, Colombia 🇨🇴
When I first had this classic as kid when it first came out I thought it was such a cool song and I still think it’s one of Paul’s greatest songs he ever recorded.
Poll: What is your pick for the GREATEST solo Beatles song from each of the four members?
Gotta be Live and Let Die
No disrespect to any of the rest of The Beatles, but I have to nominate…
Imagine by John Lennon
That’s a crazy request. Asking us to pit the Beatles against each other? Paul has so many fanfreakingtastic excellent songs and I think John would have as many if he had lived as long. George and Ringo wrote a couple of really good ones. My top pick changes based on my mood at the time. Right now I’ll go with imagine.
The Beatles solo works grand-slam! John - Imagine. Paul - Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey. George - My Sweet Lord. Ringo - It Don't Come Easy.
My Sweet Lord - George Photograph - Ringo
Mind Games - John
Live and Let Die - Paul
I took my mom to see Paul Mccartney in 2013. We were 7th row and we could feel the heat coming off of the pyrotechnics during live and let die. It was amazing. My mom passed away unexpectedly in 2014 and I also treasure the memories of that concert. She was a huge Beatles fan and she introduced me to their music. It was a magical night that I will never forget ✨
I am glad you got to share that moment with her. Life is all about making the most of the moments we get and remembering to appreciate the time we had.
What an experience! So sorry that you lost your mother so abruptly. She sounded like an excellent woman!
Wow. My name is Chris and I have the exact same story, same years too. Reading your comment made me do a double take. Life is about making memories and at least we did that. 🙏🏼
I was in row 9 in November 1975 (Sydney) - got the same experience.
@@sarahfullerton6894 I was there too. He put on a great show!
I did too
Md?
I think Sir Paul’s solo and Wings music is fantastic. To this day one of my favorite albums is Wings Over America. Thanks Prof!! Beautiful post once again.
Oh YEAH - maybe the best live album ever, and the sound is incredible for 1976. The show in Largo, Maryland was my first concert... My understanding is that Macca taped every show, mixed them all down, then took the best three of each song, remixed them, took the best one and did a final mix - that's Wings Over America.
cool didnt know the story behind i found the triple vinly foldout great deal like 20 bucks but doesnt have original poster same as foldout photo but yeah great live record one i
of best in the 70s and there were many
@@caramanico1 On that tour he had a horn section which he hasn't had many times during his solo career. I know he had it on a tour 1 or 2 years prior Corona.
i like his music better than the beatles
I’m quite partial to magneto and titanium man. Dunno much about the wings albums as a whole though.
What a milestone.
...just mentioned Macca's 80th, in me post! ..Great Minds, eh', Lady Liliy!??
@@RBS_ Yup. Thank god I realized this at the right time!
Nice catch on his burfdee being today. It's a good age to get to.
Speaking of school, for my upper/grammar school we had a half hour coach trip. Our regular driver would often play this over the stereo (along with many other classics) and it was guaranteed to get the whole coach singing along.
Love Sir Paul’s 2001 greatest hits 2 CD studio album set Wingspan ! All of Wing’s songs !
I saw the most recent Bond movie the other night. They REALLY should have tapped Paul to right the Bond song for that movie. It was genuinely lame.
Guns N Roses version is pretty Bad Ass too!
Any time I hear her voice, I find myself stopping whatever I’m doing for a moment and thinking, “WOW, What a voice!”, and then I realize it’s the lovely Sheena Easton, and then there’s a flood of happy memories of the time I worked with her.
my fav Bond film my fav theme is You Only Live Twice
I saw Paul in concert at MetLife Stadium for his Got Back tour, and the crowd went crazy during "Live and Let Die." Wonderful song as well as wonderful pyrotechnics (including both fire and fireworks).
the music for “live and let die” really suited the themes during the movie making it one of the most exciting bond films ever☝🏻
"We're gonna have a good time!"
Fans and admirers around the world are wishing him many more years to come, this day.
Loved this song as a kid. Appreciate it more as an adult. I thoroughly enjoyed this video, especially the pic and personal story about your dad. Touching and special. Music is magical in so many ways.
Adam’s stories about his dad always get me!
Just saw Paul in concert (for the first time) in Baltimore last weekend. Such a great show - what a legend! And a great talent and entertainer. So glad I got to see him. And the pyrotechnics with Live and Let Die were CRAZY. 😁
Oh my goodness, that is so cool! I bet it was exhilarating!
I was tehre too! I wthe pyrotechnics were stunning. But not as stunning as the performer.
I cried.
I saw it in Fenway. That song rocked Fenway and the pyrotechnics were fantastic.
@@mrb152 I saw him in Baltimore. The pyrotechnics were awesome! and he was so funny, when the pyro was done, he pretended to cover his ears and be scared
Live and Let Die is The BEST Bond movie song for me! So dynamic and just a great song to listen to and sing along with…. I love that song!
Thank you for the love for this song. I think it is one of the greatest songs ever, by anybody. Always the highlight of his live shows.
Live and Let Die is an all-time classic that EVERY music fan NEEDS to listen 🎧 to at least once before they die.
I saw Wings do this in Sydney, Australia in 1975. The pyrotechnics were amazing and totally worthy of the incredible song. Blew the audience away.
How could have anyone disliked that song? That song is 50 years old, and it still gets the heart pumping
George worked on RAM actually
Fantastic as it was, the recording is almost a sleepy lullaby compared to Seeing/Hearing it LIVE in a Stadium 🏟 show. The Bombastic effects of the Explosions, Strobes and Lasers add a Physical element that the ears alone can't quite produce !!
I saw him live a Fenway Park recently. It was Amazing
I’ve heard the live version and it is fantastic!
Paul mccartneys solo career is epic.
I love the beatles. But damn ima Wings fan since i can remember.
So many awesome songs covering such a range.
Best Super Bowl halftime show ever. The fireworks punctuating the bass threw me into yelling "hell yeah" at the tv. Great memories!
The song and (at least for me) my introduction to Yaphet Khotto are the two main reasons to love the movie.
Yaphet Khotto is a hell of an actor!
Well, happy 80th birthday for Paul
Peace and Love for him, his family and his friends ✌☮
Welp, every Beatle is now officially an octogenarian. Another one bites the dust. Happy birthday to a legend! 🎉
EDITED TO ADD: Crap, I forgot that George Harrison is not officially an octogenarian just yet.
Great show. McCartney is my musical hero. Nothing like seeing Paul sing Live and Let Die in concert. Love it.
Paul always does Live and Let Die and Hey Jude live. Both amazing songs and perfect for a concert ... So much fun!
Thank you, Beautiful Paul’s 80th Birthday Celebration. Looking forward for your Beatle contents. God Bless... ❤️
I saw McCartney a few years ago in concert. The pyrotechnics were huge, could feel the heat way up in our seats during this song. Great stuff.
“Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey” is definitely in my top ten, it’s just too hard for me to pick one single favorite McCartney song.
"Munkberry Moon Delight" is a super good track as well. "Junior's Farm" and "Jet" so hard to pick a favorite McCartney song
@@secularZoo Those are some awesome tunes.
Damn, you just picked out perfect list of Beatles songs post career wise for me to listen to. Been a fan since 1981 since I was 8 years old

Love the t-shirt. Happy birthday, Brian Wilson.
My mother assembled John Lennon’s, 1964 Rickenbacker Guitar.
My mother... Dorothy J. Tandle was working at (RIC) Electro Strings Rickenbacker Guitars back in February 1964 in Santa Ana California. The phone rang at our house at 6:10AM with the GM of Ric Ward Deaton asking if my mom could come in ASAP to work on a special rush order guitar
My mother was asked to follow Lennon’s Custom guitar from start to finish.
The one used on “Walls and Bridges”
“Well if they’re gonna send one, send two cause I’d like one as well”
John Lennon ordering a Fender Rhodes Electric Piano at the Apple studios.
(Elton John recorded “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” with the same piano)
My mother and myself are the only mother/son that both built an instrument for John Lennon.
I have built pianos for “You name it”
just about everyone IE: “Pink Floyd” on “Dark Side Of The Moon”
It is our little contribution to Classic Rock.
No THANK YOU NOTES from them. At least she made them happy?
A great theme song, Jane Seymour as the Bond Girl and superb, imaginative stunts make Live and Let Die my favorite James Bond film.
"Let Me Roll IT.." By McCartney is always going to be the best solo Beatle for me....hands down.
He's the best hands down.
@@fivestring65ify no, but he’s great just like John and George were greatness. Each in their own way
I see the glean in your eyes when you mentioned your father.
Would have loved to hear that in Wayne’s World, you have a point there!
The GnR version was so good because in many ways it respected the sound of the original; it didn't reinterpret it.
The G&R version was meh. It’s one of those instances that clear illustrates that distorted guitars are not particularly powerful. And I can’t stand Axl’s vox.
This is your best episode yet! Coincidentally, my dad-a staunch country & western octogenarian-loved Live and Let Die. Mind blown, Dad, RIP.
Awesome! Paul McCartney is One of my favorite Singer/Songwriters !
McCartney's music was the soundtrack of my childhood, and I didn't own any records at that time! It was heard everywhere.
Just saw Sir Paul on Thursday night at MetLife Stadium…the final stop on the Got Back tour. Seeing him on stage with Bruce Springsteen still seems surreal for us folks in Jersey. Still buzzing!!!! 🤯🤯👏🏻👏🏻
And “Live and Let Die” STILL leaves the audience blown away!
Nobody Does It Better is the first Bond theme song not to have the movie title as the name of the song
They're all quality tunes. But, I also really liked Shirley Bassey/Goldfinger, Nancy Sinatra/You Only Live Twice, and Sheena Easton/For Your Eyes Only.
Good timing Professor, I just watched Wings over America on Peacock.. They truly killed it live…Another great episode ..
Nobody Does It Better is the only Bond theme to win an Oscar.
Nobody Does It Better is a great theme song! (I’m also partial to Shirley Bassey’s Goldfinger).
I love to play Nobody does it better on piano too. It has a beautiful melody and hook and as you say so sensual.
Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey is still one of the most fantastic number one songs of the 70s. I think it won a Grammy for best engineered song.
It's a great song, for sure.
Great song on a great LP , loved Ram for nearly 50 yrs .
Very beatlesque! Love it!
John Lennon thought this song was a piece of shite. But Lennon was biased and hated most of McCartney's songs after The Beatles ended.
Agreed. Denny was awesome.
Just saw Sir Paul in concert last month. Live and Let Die was literally explosive in the arena. Ok in be of the best songs of the evening.
You could always rely on McCartney to just write the most amazing songs. Really a legendary songwriter!
Agreed. He has a bunch of talent.
No doubt. Some times the instrumentation let him down (those 80s synths don't always work) - but he is a master songwriter.
I love it, it's one of McCartney's few dark songs. A big shift from those silly love songs.
The Silly Love songs that helped make him a billionaire, lol.
Thing about this channel is every artist is the best in the world. It's all lavish praise and no critical examination of anything.
Damn it Professor, everytime you start talking about your Dad, I start tearing up!😢
Me too!
Wow, it’s cool that you got to watch all these amazing movies along with the audience!
I like both versions ! GNR did an awesome cover version
Love the 2001 album compilation Wingspan
Its really dramatic and dynamic. How can you not love it if not at least appreciate it.
AC's "Man with the Golden Gun" was pretty lackluster so I don't think it would have been a contender
1. Live And Let Die- McCartney; 2.Nobody Does It Better- Carly Simon;
3. For Your Eyes Only-Sheena Easton
Some of the best songwriters wrote great words OR great music.
Paul McCartney is one of the elite that could do both.
All stellar songs!
I saw the film as a kid when it came out. I still vividly remember the title credits and the song.
A View To a Kill is my favorite Duran Duran song and movie of all time! And I did like the more rocking version of Guns ‘n Roses version of Live and Let Die better than the original, but no doubt the original is iconic and will go down as a Bond classic.
Duran Duran really nailed it with that Bond theme!
This seems like Sir Paul’s first foray into symphonic composition. For a 1960’s pop/rock star, it’s pretty mind-blowing. The tempo changes, the very different sections, making an orchestra flat out ROCK…
good stuff and paved the way for many things to follow in popular music.
My choices would be:
From Paul with Wings: Live and Let Die, Band On The Run, or Jet.
From George: Give me Love, I've Got My Mind Set On You, or My Sweet Lord.
From Ringo: Photograph, It Don't Come Easy, or You're Sixteen.
From John, Imagine, Woman, or Whatever Gets You Through The Night.
Guns & Roses = WORST COVER EVER!!!
I looove Paul & looove James Bond. This is definitely one of the best songs and movies of the entire franchise!! Top 3, IMO, in no particular order: Live and Let Die, Goldfinger, View to A Kill
I knew you were going to dedicate today's video to the great Sir Paul McCartney on his 80th birthday. My favorite musician of all time, thank you so much Professor =)
this song has been a staple at Paul's concerts from day one.Always awesome pyrotechnics!
My favorite from Paul McCartney is No More Lonely Nights. Happy 80th Birthday Sir Paul! Keep up the great work professor!
