Unit production being the command and conquer style is very nice
I think you still have to have the full price prior to making the build command. In C&C you could make a build/train command anytime and construction would simply pause when you ran out of resources.
Not entirely like C&C I assume, there you could only produce one unit at a time, but having multiples of a building sped up the production process (not in all games I think, but I don't remember exactly).
@@ODDin17 I know Red Alert 2 worked as you described, while C&C 3 and Red Alert 3 had a sub-tab for each individual production facility. Not sure about Generals.
This is similar to C&C3 because it had tabs for all your unit production structures. @@ODDin17
@@JWQweqOPDHGenerals, you could produce multiple units at a time if you had multiple production buildings. Can't remember if you could produce units while underfunded. I dont believe you could (might go play real quick now that im talking about it lol.)
Hey Lowko, you missed that you can load different types of basic infantry into the “bunker” to modify them like the command and conquer utility trucks.
Here are what you get when you load them:
B.O.B -> Repair Station.
S.C.O.U.T. -> Sensor Tower.
Lancer -> Close Range Saw Tower.
Exo -> Long Range Cannon Tower.
Med -> Area Healing Station.
-
I thought those designs are absolutely GENIUS!!!
-
I tried loading the Vulcan and it didn’t work. 😂
Also the rocket cars are absolutely op in the meta at the moment. 😅
-
There is also a science vessel looking flying unit that wasn’t shown in this video.
His death animation are quite something. 💥
Its a very fun take on the Terran mech style.
the fact that the Atlas says "speak up" when it's selected is amazing :D glad that Frostgiant has these little references and easter eggs in the game. It's all about the details, these devs clearly love RTS games
32v32 - the hardest part of that match up is ensuring people don't quit early!
their PCs will most likely quit first
@@joovids3576 Good point - I wonder what monster of a rig you would need....
biggest in rts terms i´ve seen is on SupCom Forged Alliance Forever they made custom maps with 10v10 and armys get huuuuugee
@@Fifury161 Put a minimum 5 min limit before they can quit XD
@@captainbroady Sadly I don't believe that could be enforced...
Just wanna say thank you so much for being a real one and taking the time to mouse over tooltips and icons. You're the only streamer I can find who's done this systematically, and it's a great help for those of us who aren't in the beta! This video is one of the best Stormgate resources on all of youtube
19:20 that casual Hero burn. Nice one.
Still only using 9% of his brain. "Hold" is found on the 10%
Really appreciate your comments about the mechanical gameplay. ive been watching for over half a decade, and i gotta say, it's pretty f***ing rad that you got a key. I remember watching you recast tourneys, and your old school zerg tutorials. Makes me happy to see you here, dude. Hell yeah
As a casual player, I'm loving what the Frost Giant team is doing with this. It's very well thought out. Thanks for the video!
nice to finally see someone go over descriptions of units/skills one by one!
So excited to get my hands on this game! Thanks for the preview and the great explanations of concepts and tactics Lowko, you’re the best dude 🙌
Veteranship is a Command and Conquer mechanic. Was basically exclusively in those games, and was a huge aspect of Red Alert 2.
I feel like people who complain about snowballing dont take in to account a couple key points.
1. The units that are upgraded typically are early game units (as they see the most combat if they theoretically survive). Meaning, the upgrades are pretty minimal (whats a x2 hp marine gonna do to a pair of Siege Tanks?)
2. To get and keep those veterancies, you will have to be outplaying your opponent anyways. In any game, playing better than your opponent snowballs the game in your favor. So the argument doesnt really make sense. In SC2, you wouldnt be mad that a multi-base marine drop got the player who executed it ahead. Same thing with veterancy, except they can still be blown up with burst damage, meaning there is technically more counterplay than falling behind in eco in SC2.
I can't say I like the look of this game.
But I will be supporting it either way. Purchasing and giving it the best chance I can to earn my time from sc
its free right? so nothing to lose by giving it a go. I want it to succeed but as of yet I remain unconvinced.
@@artaihnandez4980 Yeah, it does a couple small things here and there that are kinda neat, but overall I am absolutely not impressed and I don't like the unreadable yet not interesting art style or weak sound design.
Art style is definitely unappealing.
Yeah it reminds me of those "totally not starcraft" mobile games. Except the gameplay here is literally a reskin of SC2/Wc3
@@JoRyGu yep. I know its harsh to expect a small studio to compete with Blizzard and the other big boys but I really wish they went in a different direction with the art.
51:50 I agree that 3 is a good number of factions to balance. I also think that Zero Space has a good system where you don't have a monolithic faction but instead have a base + mercenary + hero, and essentially get balance through diversity and counters.
This video just sealed it for me. I'm not looking forward to Stormgate anymore, it is a veiled in mystery literal clone of SC2 but with the boring slow combat from WC3 (they should have cloned the supply upkeep mechanic while they were at it) with the only saving grace being CPU optimization and core utilization for current CPU gens unlike SC2 that is core limited. Zero Space is infinitely more interesting from the showcases and actual gameplay footage that they weren't shy or mysterious to share and with much more less money, and likely less experienced devs.
I strongly disagree, 3 is extremely boring. Games like Dawn of War and Warlords battlecry had over 9 and 16 races respectively and just exploring and playing around with them was already insane fun.
I think you are quitting far to early. Starcraft 2 in Beta stage didnt look anything like on its releaseday. In fact, Starcraft 2 used to be a lot slower too, so they simply increased the gamespeed, problem solved (this is also the reason why upgrades have such strange researchtimes, because they were initially planed for a lower game speed). @@raizan5946
Year and how well are they competitivly ballanced? In SC2 it took the devs many years to get a decent ballance just between 3 races, and they are still tweaking. Sure you can increase the number of factions by a lot and still keep ballance, but then the factions need to be very similar, thats how AoE has always done it, same baselayout for each faction, then add a few unique trades and bam, new faction. Personally i prefer the starcraft way with really unique factions. Maybe with the rise of AI we can have more unique factions and AI does the ballancing. @@shanthagopian7559
@@shanthagopian7559 Stormgate might be limited to 3 races for competitive, but that doesn't mean that co-op missions or compaigns might be. Starcraft 2 had a lot of unique commanders with different styles. The balancing for combat I think is why 3 races isn't a bad choice. In SC2 commanders would get some insanely powerful features that wouldn't work well in competitive matches. Ballancing won't matter at much in that regard.
woah this has been a long time coming! awesome
pretty awesome stuff, a lot of the abilities remind me of the Scion custom races mechanics
So when they said from the makers of WC3 and SC2 they really meant we are just taking those two games and mashing them together. I mean the Quality of life upgrades are nice, but doesn't really have a whole lot of original feel to it. It's very easy to se where they just directly copied things from the previous games.
Im always looking forward for Lowko to play Stormgate
Thank you Lowko for going through the Factions step by step.
I don't know if you copied Winter's thumbnail on purpose or not, but either way it gave me a good chuckle!
First ting i noticed 🤣
"a vaquita!" The Imps are so cute XD also the build animation is awesome!
I immediately wondered about hog rush when you first described it, thanks for showing I won't need to. Maybe there's a rush supplement, to other forces rushing.
Thank you for explaining the civilization step by step
pretty cool how some starcraft devs supports in making this game
35:30 I think the siege tank projectile hang time depends on how far away it fires. It was fast for you because you were not shooting far. If you were to fire at the max range, it would be slower.
Finally a nice exploring of the game and not only playing.
Love the build mechanic that invites new players and also rewards precision and higher level play
I have been a funder all the time, since the beginning, they got more than a million. Love of people about RTS is insane. Love all of you.
I'm so excited I got into the closed beta and finally got time to play today
The main reason I love StarCraft is because of the characters and story. Even if stormgate is an improvement I don't think I will keep playing it as most people are still playing StarCraft 10+ years after release. This game reminds me of red alert and I think it will go down the same path
I hope you just mean Starcraft and not Starcraft 2, because your comment would contradict itself since SC2 story is a pile of garbage written by children.
9:35 Heck yes, surely grabs the closer BOB. And u still can send the worker when the building isnt available, let the worker in position, and Q when the materials are gathered.
Having customizable keys and even UI-settings is absolutely mandatory. Some people would even like to mirror the bottom UI with the minimap on the left, controlsection to the right.
And the absolute burner would be if you could switch the icons in different places of the controlsection, so you have personalized GRID-hotkeys - this would be the pinacle!
I love watching gameply!
Love the Christmas Tree in your videos'. Merry Christmas.
Excellent description and tags on this video.
cant wait for full realse!
That max player count is getting me hooked. Nice preview.
Love myself some Lowko in the morning featuring my fav hyped game Stormgate :-)
StormGate and ZeroSpace
looks kinda cool, hopefully there will be some sort of graphical improvement. Obviously mechanics are important but to attract and retain players it has to look at least decent too.
Yeah, my biggest problem with this game is that it's just too much SC2 inspired, while also looking like a mobile game. I feel like the hype will die down rly fast and everyone will just go back to starcraft anyway.
I agree with you entirely, especially the second part. It's sc2 inspired, but it's not looking even close to as good as SC2 which is weird. @@JustMe4414
Thank you! This was a great overview and gave me a really good look at this game. (Which I have been waiting for with baited breath.)
Also, last I had heard there would be 3 Factions in this game. If this has changed someone let me know. (I think a max of 5 at the absolute most but 3 is best for a Rock, Paper, Scissors feel even if each faction is evenly balanced.)
I'm very hyped for this game. SC2 used to be my main pvp game, but I faded out of it in favor of LoL and later (till now) Hunt Showdown. This might finally be my ticket back to good old RTS action.
Infernal seems like the go to for a fun run, a combo of Zerg & Undead
Therium being a resource that slowly spreads is soo similar to Tiberium
You say too similar, I say synthesis of the old RTS gaming monoliths
It's just a gas geyser that uses more memory. Not impressed.
Tank projectiles are distance based. They seemed faster to you because you were aiming very closely to the tank. At max range, the window to dodge their attack seems fairly generous.
Wow, the Hedgehog is literally the IFV from Red Alert 2/3.
Really cool to see who reminiscent some of these units are from the other titles.
I can't wait for years of competitive Stormgate and online tournaments!
Thank god they borrowed the way buildings and macro work from C&C. That was always my biggest gripe with Blizzard type RTS. I think one additional improvement they could make is a hotkey for pulling the nearest idle/gold/gas mining worker which you can opt for before placing buildings. Along with queueing, if you only press the hotkey once, it will pull only 1 worker to pull multiple units. If the hotkey isn't used, placing the building could still auto-pull. But so far this is exactly what I was hoping would get implemented.
Not giving a dime to a game dev until said game comes out in a complete state.
If you showed me this and SC2, i'd think SC2 was the newer game 😂
OMG - you hit the nail on the head! That's exactly what I would think as well.
SC2 is a finished game while this is still in development. Obviously SC2 is going to look newer right now.
So excited to see some new RTS! 🎉
no
I can not wait!
The hedgehog reminds me of the rocket buggy in Command and Conquer Generals
excellent stormgate gameply
he fixed the typo
Interesting how the siege pick-up is balanced by it having a fire delay, so you can't instafire after unloading and pick them back up.
Frost Giant maximizing micro all over this game, all without loosing the macro :)
Stormgate looks fire, and as for the: how many races at launch / in general I’d like to point out the Dawn of war 40k franchise which has 9 and each is pretty unique. I like the diversity of multiple factions a lot
looks good so far. i hope they will polish further the graphic. it looks blurry especialy the terrain (unless it zoomed in)
okay the infernals look absolutely awesome. and the imps are so cute with their little gibberish
on the one hand I am extremely happy to see a new RTS that seems made by very competent and experienced people
on the other hand the art style is the most uninspired cookie cutter garbage I have seen... had I not followed RTS news I would have never even looked at this game just from the art style alone
Infernal look so fun and cool! Cant wait to see the third faction. Also love that there is blood in the game. Not sure why but I just find rts games without blood and good special effects on units and structures just not very immersive.
Would love to see more of that. hope it will go crazy when its released
edit, just finished watching the video, is the win condition is to destroy all the opponent structures?
The win condition is for Frost Giant not to lose every one of the $35M dollars they borrowed from investors.
This game is cool. I'm excited about it, but it ain't SC3 unfortunately. Thanks for the incite Lowko, and look forward to what comes next for this game.
I love Stormgate's style, but i would love to see a hyper dark gritty Starcraft 3 built off snowplay!
Interesting that Therium grows back, didn't see something like that since Tiberium in C&C.
I absolutely love the look of the weaver
Thank you finally some controls who could not play yet.
holy shit love u lowko and stormgate
It's like Lowko has never heard of Command and Conquer, and thinks the C&C production style is a huge innovative idea.
building units off a hotkey is why Protoss warp gates are so good.
"I hope it doesn't crash anything." RUclips immediately switches to an ad... 😂
Total Warhammer has a TON of factions. It was pretty amazing that, in 1v1s, it was as balanced as it was!
The Winterstarcraft Inspired Thumbnail lol!!
I wonder how well the singleplayer content for the game goes, and if there's gonna be any support for mods.
Also wondering if, for multiplayer, something other then 1v1 will be popular.
Certainly hoping for some sort of coop mode á la starcraft 2 coop, was pretty much all I played while it was supported
@@jonathanvtorp There is a coop mode behind Lowko's head.
I swear to god, if the vast majority of the campaign's gonna be like "HURRY UP COMMANDER THE SUN HEAT WAVE IS GONNA KILL US IN 3 MINUTES 15 SECONDS IF YOU DONT REACH THE OBJECTIVE HURRY HURRY" that one aspect of the sc2 campaigns infuriated me to the ends of the earth. almost made me quit too. I f***ing despise being rushed with time in ANYTHING.
They want a big focus on 3v3 too (and the map editor will be in the same client, so there'll be plenty of custom games)
From what i read is there suppose to be multiple mission based campaigns based on the different Factions.
This can increase the skill ceiling cuz you can split unit in hot key instead of your factory. now we can have more minor army instead of one big ball and 2 run by.
Would you want to play some ZeroSpace too? I am looking forward to this one as well
Yay sometimes dreams DO come true!
god i hope this game succeeds!
age 4 had shift que since the start of the game. But they didn't give a visual guide until later
Very few glitches and 0 crashes, that's atipical for the current early stage and a really good sign
I'm all in for a new hypothethical race (or even faction) that kinda mirrors East Asian cultures. Definitely should have a little tech, too. Since they look good in a Sci-Fi-Fantasy setting.
Damn i am here early, happy to see you doing it, i just dont know what to say
I really hope they settle on four factions. Are maybe even branch off into sub-factions eith minor differences like Age of Empires.
Oh look Kerrigan is back
Going to miss Crucio siege tank, such an iconic sci-fi unit :)
this is more a spiritual successor to Warcraft 3 than it is of Starcraft. It'll be nice to see a new RTS, but I'm still looking forward to something more like Starcraft
the dog bark sound may as well have been recorded from the bark my dog makes when she wants to come back inside
Game looks great especially Infernal, looking forward to what Stormgate brings to the furture
The unit respons delay in age of empires is intentional and changes from unit to unit, otherwise some units would be crazy strong if they had instant respons.
For the tournaments sake id like to see 5 races possible but i know the balance would be a nightmare to deal with so 4 is thye dream that can come true
Amazing how they were able to make a game look just like games I played 20 years ago. Well done.
Automatically injection for queens was a good thing. it is really a monkey ability get back to Hatchery and inject. Top players could use queens for more tactical and strategic decisions as zoning, provide support for units, etc. Low level players would enjoy having a queen "tower"with a small bonus in production.
I hope we get space dwarves
When he turned on dlss and was worried it might cause my video paused for a second and I thought it actually crashed but it was an ad lol
The lowering of the skill floor sounds really nice! Easy building and easy unit building sounds super comfy!
"We have Starcraft at home"
i dont know man, i dont like how it feels... its like warcraft 4 but made in 2008
wait, with that 30 second buff is proxy worker rush a thing?
iM REALLY EXCITED FOR THIS GAME :3 IM SUSCRIBING BRO
whenever you get industry vets creating the genre theyre passionate about, i get hyped. I'm not a big RTS fan, mostly just StarCraft and C&C Generals, but like, I'm hyped for this. Been following for awhile, now a Backer on Kickstarter. I expect this to have everything everyone wants in an RTS, and if it doesn't, there will either be a good reason, or it'll come down the road if the game is successful enough, which I think this will be. There's a lull in the RTS genre, and this is getting the attention of all the SC2 YTers who are probably getting burnt out on SC2 by now lol.
for the factions question idk i like more 3 to 4 is nice and good but if i can have more that would be better lol
might be far fetch but i would like a new faction with a new update or something
like for SC2 i love the co-op for the different commanders and units that they give u and yes i want more lol
Hopefully they add custom hotkey presets like SC2, and AoE2. As a beginner its so overwhelming for me to change all the hotkeys myself especially if same keys do multiple sifferent things. Atleast if its setup especially for me who is left handed to have defaults in the right areas i can start playing quickly
My experience is that defenders advantage is very strong in this game.
I only played a single game of pvp but I've really felt the up and downswings of attacking / defending.
The game is slower paced than sc 2 in my opinion but also more punishing if you're not using your ressources efficiently.
Also missile cars are beyond broken.
omg a game that lets you choose where the minimap is... i'm in.
