Hey! I'm the guy that made the iceberg (Ringo Suuta) and you did a great job explaining it. Imagine my shock when I saw this video in my recommended. A shame you didn't include some later additions but that's understandable considering how I went back to add and delete entries pretty sporadically. There are some entries I'd like to add on too/correct. - The whole Shaggy vegan thing is interesting because despite Kasem leaving due to the Burger King commercial, official media made after and around the same time like the Disaster area site and the "Those Meddling Kids" commercials continue to refer to him as vegan. Despite there being no obligation too at that point. - Iwao Takamoto did more than just Scooby Doo. Before working at Hannah Barbera he worked at Disney and got to animate some pretty iconic characters and even worked directly under one of Disney's Nine Old Men (nine of Disney's best animators) I'd recommend reading more into him. the-animatorium.blogspot.com/2015/11/animator-of-month-iwao-takamoto.html - Scooby Dooniverse was an entry that deserved way more of an explanation. It was created by Torsten Adair and his attempts to bring everything together is pretty fascinating. Mentioning things like the Kevin Bacon game and even having a full chart of connections that would've been cool to see in the video. www.comicsbeat.com/scooby-dooniverse-cartoon-shared-universe/ - The Disaster area website is pretty interesting as it's home to some obscure tidbits about the gang (such as their idols) and might be the earliest mention of their canon ages (that I could find at least) web.archive.org/web/19961018161428/www.turner.com/tbs/disaster/scoobybios.htm - In regards to Scooby Doo's true name origin there are multiple songs which mention the name that predate the show. Including "Feeling so Good" by The Archies and "Everyday People" by Sly and the Family Stone. Both examples were by popular artists and came out very close to the original series airdate making them likely origins. However it seems like "Scooby Doo" or similar terms like "Dooby Doo" were pretty common nonsense words possibly originating from scat singing in early vocal Jazz (I swear there was a Louis Armstrong song where he said Schooby Dooby or something similar). There was even a Flinstones episode where Barney sings the name ruclips.net/video/sqNAj2tSbwI/видео.html - The Toon Tour Mysteries explanation is missing the most integral aspect of those disks. That each one had a particular episode from a Cartoon Network show that involved a mystery. When the episode was selected there was a little opening animation showing the gang talking about the case in question and after the episode was over Velma would appear and ask who the culprit was and you had to select from 3 options. They even recapped all the clues in the episode to help you out. I had discs 3 and 4 as a kid and they bring back a lot of memories. archive.org/details/scooby-doo-and-the-toon-tour-of-mysteries-opening - Bald Fred has a surprisingly rational explanation. Somebody speculated that it might just be a person having vague memories of the Skooks RUclips poop series. Fred is portrayed as a psychotic abuser who hurts Daphne and I think has one or two scenes where he appears bald. - tinyletter.com/waitingroom/letters/the-scrappy-doo-wikipedia-mystery Somebody actually wrote a whole article about the Scrappy Doo incident and got a full interview with the person who wrote the Wikipedia article about him. It's surprisingly wholesome and the user talks about how Scrappy really resonated with them due to seeing parts of their autism in Scrappy's inability to read people. - Hannahbildungsroman thebaffler.com/salvos/hannabarbildungsroman Here's the article I was referring too. Pretty good read. - The Harry Reid entry is funny largely due to the absurdity of it. The presentation also includes comparisons of Barack Obama to The Joker and Nancy Pelosi to Cruella Deville. These were also important Democratic figures in American politics at the time and to see somewhat understandable comparisons (in the context of trying to vilify your opponent) be contrasted with a Scooby Doo comparison is just really funny. It was reported on by Left leaning talk and news shows at the time as a way of displaying how comically paranoid and dumb the Republican party is. Harry Reid himself later responded to it saying he was honored to be seen as similar to Scooby nypost.com/2010/03/10/sen-harry-reid-embraces-gops-scooby-doo-comparison/ -The sheepnesia thing is tied to Alt right politics (conspiracies like Trump lost due to election fraud, pandemic being planned) and sites like Infowars so that's why I made that description. Ironic considering Scooby and the gang stand against everything Trump and his goons worship. -The El faro thing isn't one hundred percent true. "Rhut roh" wasn't the exact last thing heard but it was part of the ships final transmission before sinking. You can see the full transcript here web.archive.org/web/20201112004206/dms.ntsb.gov/public/58000-58499/58116/606566.pdf
1:06:35 yes but the whole point of the curse is to take away what mattered most to them, that’s why Fred lost the mystery machine and scooby and shaggy lost their hunger/scaredness Daphne didn’t just become fat the whole point was that that was what mattered the most to her that’s also why her hair went all frizzy which was her beauty to HER.
It may not be available now, but as a kid, I had Scooby Doo meets the Addams Family on VHS. I don't anymore though, mum got rid of all of our VHS tapes when we started to get DVDs instead. Pity I never got it converted beforehand.
I gotta admit, pretty great video. But I’m kinda surprised that there wasn’t an entry talking about how the Green Ghost aka Phantom Shadow is sometimes blue in certain incarnations. I get why this could be the case( because he used to be called the Phantom Shadow and still called that plenty of other Scooby-Doo fans not counting me) but it always confused me on some level. I mean, his signature color is still green regardless of what which name is used when talking about it. This is the same reason why I prefer Ashoka’s lightsabers being green as opposed to blue or white. Granted I do like her other lightsaber colors, but it’s it’s a signature aspect of her character, so my point still stands. A good example is Scooby-Doo Mystery Mayhem; in which there are three ghost enemy variants. One is an (in my opinion) ugly looking small ghost, variant number 2 is a big green ghost but THE Green Ghost (if you catch my drift), and the last and most common variant is supposed to be the aforementioned classic villain from the show. But for some baffling reason, he’s got a blue glow covering his body which is CLEARLY green. Let’s just say it’s the only time that such a (TECHNICALLY insignificant but still reoccurring) continuity error doesn’t peeve me, but I still love ❤️ the video.
great video it was a lot of fun and learned some stuff i didnt see as a kid. the swedish dub versions of the intros is pretty good, season 3 intro swedish dubtitles(the one with the shark) is my favourite. the movies i saw on tv as a kid are cyber chase, monster from mexico, chill out, aloha and reluctant werewolf. zombie island i either watched very little of or it was never on tv in sweden at that time. sd wheres my mummy or scooby doo och kleopatras förbannelse as its known in sweden. sd and the loch ness monster i dont know if i watched as a kid, i remember seeing a very similar loch ness monster but it might be tintin in the shark lake or an episode of proffesor gadget that was similar or if am remembering a ducktales episode.
