      Brickleberry might’ve been awful, Allen Gregory was offensive, Fairview made me want to get a chainsaw root canal…
      But Velma is SO AWFUL it’s legally considered a carcinogen. Johan Liebert from Monster wasn’t this deplorable and that somabitch LITERALLY had a Neo-Nazi group try to make him their god!

    The entire point of the original Scooby-Doo on zombie Island is the fact that, eventually, you get sick of watching them pull masks off of people and want to see them catch a real monster. The original film not only gave us this concept, but a perfect execution of it: it has the characters expecting it to be another person in a mask and has them be very surprised and genuinely terrified when it turns out to be real. The sequel completely missed this point.

    • @superchicken5095
      @superchicken5095 10 месяцев назад +6

      I agree with all your points. The only thing I'd like to say though, is that "Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island", wasn't the FIRST time real monsters were in Scooby-Doo
      Technically, the first time real monsters were in the franchise, was in the second of "Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo". Although probably the most well-known examples OTHER than "Zombie Island", are "The 13 Ghost's of Scooby-Doo", and the three Hanna-Barbera Superstars movies;
      "Boo Brothers" 👻 "Ghoul School" 👾 and "Reluctant Werewolf 🐺

    • @Supasmartguy
      @Supasmartguy 10 месяцев назад +3

      @@superchicken5095 the real monsters were silly, goofy, and not inherently hostile in those. Plus, I'm pretty sure those were in a separate continuity.

    • @kidprime6863
      @kidprime6863 4 месяца назад +1

      The sequel tries to de-canonize the events of the original. Saying it was all hallucinations caused by gas. That explanation is completely weak.

    • @kyleellis1825
      @kyleellis1825 22 дня назад

      @@superchicken5095 They have that levitating candle in the first episode. Supernatural has always been present.
      Though, with all the movies having the ghosts be real, having a movie go back to people in masks is a change up in the same way it originally was. Just no need to poo all over the original when doing the new movie.

    I have been brainstorming an idea for a Scooby Doo miniseries where Mystery Inc. is a full on detective business with Fred as the lead detective, Dauphine, Shaggy, and Scooby as field operatives, Velma as a forensics expert, and other Hanna Barbara Scooby clone characters as staff.
    As far as stories go, the first one is a classic Scooby Doo episode with a twist at the end hinting at a much larger mystery, an episode that challenges Mystery Inc.’s perception of monsters when they find out some staff members ARE monsters themselves, a battle of the bands where the Hex Girls are revealed to be actual vampires, an island of giant skeleton warriors, an updated Boo School, and Scrappy Doo’s big shot at redemption. That’s what I have so far, but let me know what you think and if there’s anything else that could be worth exploring.
    I do have 2 major rules. 1. There ARE supernatural elements in this series. 2. No making characters cruel for the sake of being subversive.

    • @WxIxLxLxIxAxMxS
      @WxIxLxLxIxAxMxS Год назад +5

      I regret to inform you that your idea is much too good for the standards of today's Warner Bros.
      They are looking for garbage, mediocrity, or anything in between. But your idea is actually _good._
      They won't go for it.
      They'd rather produce literal garbage like _Velma_ or sh¡tty sequels like _Return to Zombie Island_ that ruin their best movies.
      You're better off turning it into your own mystery series with original characters. There's nothing wrong with taking inspiration from something you love and turning it into your own thing. Like the Venture Bros was inspired by Scooby Doo and Johnny Quest.
      Good luck to you, good sir or ma'am. If you do write your own mystery thing, I would very much like to read it.

    Back then, I wasn't a big fan of the Scooby-Doo franchise, but I grew more fond of it as time went by. I found it interesting how you put SD: Return to Zombie Island and SD on Zombie Island as the #1 worst and best respectively, as the former is a great example of how to do disservice to the fanbase by making a sequel that serves as a nostalgia trap while Scoob! also did disservice by favoring cinematic universe-making over franchise-building. One movie I've been meaning to watch is the fairly recent Trick or Treat, Scooby-Doo, and I hope Hannah Barbera learns from the many hits and misses from all the movies they made for the series.

Don’t get me wrong stage fright was great but the other two just had the amazing animation style, amazing stories, and great characters. Stage fright has those but doesn’t have the nostalgia factor of the other to and the darkness. I loved the dark earlier 2000s scooby doo’s. Great list tho

    I didn’t hate Scoob!, but the biggest issue I have with the movie isn’t the artstyle, isn’t the lack of mystery, isn’t the Tinder joke-it’s that this clearly intended to be a kickoff to some cinematic universe (because, yes, it’s a strong business strategy but nobody understands how to ACTUALLY build one), yet instead of trying to pitch the movie as a Part 1 of ???, the movie feels more like it was written to be a Part 4, Part 5 or even 6. Most of the designs feel well translated into this new style but they introduce Dick Dastardly, Blue Falcon, and even Captain Caveman like they already had their own movies that went into detail about their backstories, character, and we should already know them. You can see the remnants of what was *supposedly* a stand-alone Scooby-Doo movie (maybe a franchise rebrand, maybe just a quick one-and-done modernization, who knows what the original plan was), but then they slammed three or four different movies on top of it out of either lack of confidence or just thinking the Scooby-Doo name could let these other ideas springboard off (kinda like what the DuckTales reboot did with integrating Rescue Rangers or Darkwing Duck), but it’s more like Robyn Starling in the Tom & Jerry movie where they basically just hijack the rest of the story.
    I didn’t intend this to turn into a whole rant, but there we go. I didn’t hate Scoob, I actually would’ve liked a Hanna-Barbera version of the MCU, but it’s just so sloppy and held together with duct tape and chewing gum.

    Oh wow, I *totally* didn't expect Stage Fright to be in your Top 5 at all, but I'm happy you have it! I of course love it as a Phan for being a Scooby-Doo mystery centered around Phantom of the Opera, a crossover I'd low-key hoped for as a kid due to the story's origins as an intended mystery novel, but yes, it *is* quite funny, and I love what they did with Steve. Part of me wonders if the reveal of him being totally fine was a riff on the less-than-stellar execution of Gerard Butler's deformity-that's-really-a-sunburn in the 2004 Schumacher film of the ALW musical. 😆🌹
    I was *about* to say that it makes up for you not liking Witch's Ghost, but then I saw it placed in your Top 2 spot! Based on your criticisms towards it in COTC, I figured you weren't a fan, but I'm glad to hear you give praise to it this time 'round! You must've really re-evaluated the film since your last review! You even *gasp* called it one of Tim Curry's more nuanced performances! *shakes head* Not trying to make fun of you for your old opinions, I swear, I'm just really glad to hear you've changed your attitude towards it, because it's always been my favorite, even more so than Zombie Island. Though that mainly comes from WG having the advantages of being set in New England (where I'm from), the Hex Girls, and Tim Curry's involvement. 😉🥰🧙‍♀
