Something that should be said. Wylie Burp form 'Fievel Goes West' was the final role for cinema legend, world war 2 veteran, and genuinely nice person James Stewart.
A man who played the some of the greatest movies of all time. Such as Rear Window, Vertigo, and It's a Wonderful Life. He was also the star of many, many westerns. Including some real classics.
Him getting to play an old sheriff taking one last stand is a beautiful final role for him. And for that alone, Fievel Goes West has a warm place in my heart.

I mean it's kinda refresing seeing Sharpteeth not acting like a bunch of mindless beasts who want to murder kids 24/7.
Also the fact that they have their own language....kinda.....it's basically roaring with subtitles.
Kinda makes you wonder about other Sharpteeth and how everything would've worked out if they were able to communicate with herbivores.

I don’t know, I feel Pterano’s punishment was a bit too harsh. Yeah he definitely deserved punishment for his actions, but to be sent into Mysterious Beyond to fend for himself in a place that’s filled with predators that could kill him for 5 years is way too harsh of a punishment in my opinion. They’re banishing him because he was a bad leader and for kidnapping Ducky which he quickly helped resolve. Bobsheaux gave his own compromise for Pterano’s punishment, and I heavily agree. His compromise for Pterano’s punishment was to have him be a look out around the Great Wall and look out for predators. That way, he could contribute to the great valley while also being away from it. And he could learn to become a good leader by leading other flyers and having them survey areas around the wall so they can give him surveillance. Then after years of service, he’s payed his debt to the great valley and can be brought back into it. He’ll receive punishment for his actions, but can still contribute to protecting the great valley and improving as a leader. It’s called community service.

This is a man who abducted and endangered a child and led to mass death a bunch of dinosaurs. Furthermore, he is a flyer the predators in the mysterious beyond aren't exactly going to be interested in him and he could go to mysterious beyond but he could also go somewhere else. Trying telling the parent of the one he abducted and endangered and the friends of those he was responsible for the death of,that all he is doing is patrolling the border when such a job isn't even necessary.

@@lampad4549 I stand by what I said. Yes, he got those other members of the herd killed, but it’s not like he did it on purpose. He was egotistical sure, but you’re only thinking this through THEIR perspective. Think about this through Pteranno’s perspective. He wants to prove himself that he can be a good leader and looks after some members of the herd, but didn’t realize until it was too late the he wasn’t experienced enough to lead, and got all of the other herd members killed and was forced to abandon them. Think about that for a second, he’s had to live with that guilt for so long with no one to comfort or console him, not even his own SISTER (yeah where were you on THAT one Petrie’s mom!?). Or at least i think she’s his sister, i don’t think the movie really goes over their relationship, so maybe Petrie just calls him Uncle for no reason idk but still. Instead they just immediately sent him off to fend for himself. Also, and i have to mention this, how did Grandpa Longneck know about the parts he wasn’t there for? And yeah you could make the argument Pteranno told him but, then that makes it kinda worse because that shows that the herd was so quick to condemn him. They KNOW it wasn’t his fault, and yet they need further convincing that it WAS his fault? What sense does that make? Again, Pteranno was egotistical yes, but it still wasn’t his fault and he had to live that guilt for so long with no one to comfort or console him. And now he’s just trying to redeem himself, and yeah sure he had to take a hostage, but it’s not like he was heartless. He still showed concern for Ducky whenever she got hurt or fell. And when he thinks she’s dead, he legit feels guilty about it. And again, he still quickly helps fix the mess he caused, so again, the comprise my stated still holds true.

The Land Before Time movies were a huge part of my childhood. I rewatched the series a couple of years ago. The first film is an undisputed masterpiece, but I actually don't mind most of the sequels. Dare I say that I found some things to appreciate about them as an adult. However, there were some low points too. Regardless, these movies are special to me and they're the main reason I love dinosaurs.

I also really enjoy Fievel Goes West as well. Even though looking back at it, it really isn't a faithful sequel, but still enjoyable nonetheless. I also watched the video to direct sequels, Treasure of Manhattan Island and Mystery of the Night Monster. For direct to video sequels, they're actually pretty good and they're interestingly more faithful to the original An American Tail than Fievel goes West. An American Tail 3 also opens up the implication that Fievel Goes West is all Fievel's dream.

I wouldn't say that Pterano hates violence because he has a habit of hitting his minions on the head if they say something too sinister or if they get out of line so he's a bit hypocritical. Also the beginning of ADGTH 2 did not rub me the right way, because the dog angel gives carface (a character who ran a mob) kidnapped a girl and tried to kill Charlie, a reward for good behavior, while Charlie (who was a con artist at first, but ended up sacrificing his life to save the girl) is given no reward. This just feels like a forced set up for Charlie to prove himself but he already has in the previous movie. Also, I kinda like the bird and crocodile duo from TLBT 4. It just cracks me up when the bad guys bust on eachother. Finally, if there's one thing i can reward all TLBT movies is that they could've just made up new creatures and just called them dinosaurs, but no, they actually seem to know what all the dinosaurs would've looked like and stook to the real shapes of the bodies. It's just my opinion. great review man!

Considering that Don Bluth also created/animated that Dragon's Lair arcade game, I think it is a good homage that the villain of that Bartok prequel ended up turning into a Dragon herself.

In the Bartok prequel, I think Prince Ivan might be a reference to Ivan the Great or Ivan the Terrible.
Considering the history of Russia and how this is a prequel to Anastasia, how old is that Bat anyway?
If we are thinking of Ivan the Terrible, that white bat must have lived longer than 300 years or something.
Good choice for number 1 film and I really missed out watching that as I was a teenager at the time when Anastasia was released and while I loved the film, I missed out on the Bartok prequel due to other stuff that was going on in my life at the time.

Agreed. I haven’t seen this one, and I remember a lot of people actually hated this one because it doesn’t focus on Anastasia (like maybe she and Dmitri start a private life in Paris and have a child together) and considering how much Bluth fictionalized Anastasia’s story, they’d do that instead. I always enjoyed Bartok as a character, but was under the impression he was always with Rasputin, despite he was an unevil henchman like Kronk or Wiggins.

    • @TBoneTony
      @TBoneTony Год назад

@@kristinahuchison2511 Agreed, Bartok was always a loveable villain's pet despite the fact he was perhaps more neutral.
But it would have made a good prequel to find out how Bartok ended up being with Rasputin, maybe Rasputin was a kind monk only to end up twisted man bent on revenge.
Bartok would have been with Rasputin long before that happened so it would have been conflicting for him.
But then again, Bluth didn't want to focus on that dark part of the story, so he may have decided to go with a Bartok story long before he crossed paths with Rasputin.

Especially given the fact that most kids that watched all the previous ones were too old for them or didn’t care. What also didn’t help was many main stays of the franchise like Kenneth Mars (grandpa longneck) and John Ingle(Cera’s father) sadly died a few years after 13’s release which I is a shame because I feel no one else was more perfect for those roles.

I thought I was crazy for liking ADGTH2 better than the original. ADGTH is a classic and the sequel definitely has its flaws. But I think people are coming around that the sequel has the better plot. Plus, it was a great source of comfort for me as a kid. Thank you for posting and PLEASE make that ADGTH2 video you were considering!

If only all of these sequels were made by Don Bluth himself, and no one else, then they would truly be great movies to watch.

It also doesnt help that Land Before Time 14 brings Chomper and his friend Ruby into the movies and lets them just play around in the great valley with zero explanation whatsoever. Said explanation is in the tv series they made back in like, 06 or 07

Not gonna lie, Journey Through the Mist is probably the Land Before Time movie ive seen the least of the pre-Stone of Cold Fire age (as in the point the series changed from hand drawn to digital) but i do enjoy the callback to the first movie with Ellie not wanting to play with Cera and the others cuz they arent Longnecks, just like how in the first movie, Littlefoot's mom said that all the dinosaurs kept to their own kind and never mingled. Also Mysterious Island was the movie that convinced me that the reason carnivores in kid's movies never talk like everyone else is because they speak a different language than the herbivores

I really liked Land Before Time 6 myself, the whole bitching and moaning part of the film didn't ever really catch up to me as a kid, but the whole arc of appreciating the people you have in your life served as a very cool story for little me. My dad was my hero, so seeing that it was valid to not need a hero from media was refreshing in some sense.
And to me Land Before Time 4 was very, very good too. And I kinda liked the dumb and dumber villains.

Okay nitpick here. If I remember right, the Alligator from Land Before Time IV is blind. Why would she react to the bird showing her his butt? See the little flinch? And an alligator’s nostrils are all the way at the end of their snout, so it’s not like she smelled it

And to be fair Amblination was going up against the Disney renaissance films which proved to be successful. One thing Amb. Really did was gave birth to the greatest animation studio to go against Disney: Dreamworks

To be fair, By the time the all dogs Christmas sequel came out car face was so different he might as well have been a completely different character to the one in the first one, does that make it good? God no!
But he’s really no longer the vile mobster that he was in the first film, he’s just kind of a Dumbass Henchman to the main villain and then the same in the Christmas one.
And that’s the biggest problem with the majority of the Don Bluth sequels, they just completely disregard anything about the characters and what they were in their original theatrical films for the sake of changing everything so they can milk the franchise.

NIMH 2 is utter garbage. It borrowed elements of the sequel books (the mice of NIMH did survive the ventilation system but were trapped in NIMH) and just made it something with no substance or worth. This is one I believe Bluth wasn't part of (thank goodness). All Dogs 2 and Fiefel Goes West are good, I remember enjoying them. After LBT 2... it should have gone the way of the dinosaurs and went extinct. I mean, how may did they make? 20? Lol
