Personally, I took the line, "I still want to be a powerful wizard jerk... just not... him" as PB basically saying that he still wants to be very powerful and even use dark magic most likely, but not the kind of PB that threatened to steal Finn and Jake's skin from the original series
He just takes their bones instead :V
I mean part of dark magic involves being incredibly selfish, I don't think pb will be able to develop his powers to their fullest extent without becoming exactly like old pb or just never preforming more higher ranking dark magic spells
@@Tatodragon now THAT'S character development
@@Tatodragon Instead of trying to take their skin while alive he politely asks for their bones after death. Character development.
@@Tatodragon They weren't using them anymore...
I like to believe that while PB still becomes a dark wizard, that he's become a bit more caring about the people around him considering that we know that he's basically the new ruler of the Candy Kingdom
I know it sounds fucked up but i would rather prefer old peppermint butler over this new peppermant butler
Yea we don't see new PB enough to no how exactly he is in the future so it kinda feels like jumping the gun to say he the exact same person
HAHA! But which pb?
@@mramillio9647 same
but how did he became princess of candy kingdom?
I didn’t realize how much I need a Huntress Wizard special until you said it.
Yeah, she's one of the most underrated in the show, outside of it she has a pretty big fanbase thankfully, so maybe Adam Muto could take notice? Maybe give her an episode in the Fionna and Cake series? PLEASE?! SHE IS LITERALLY ONLY A MAIN CHARACTER IN 2 EPISODES SO PLEASE.
@@Green1sh01 it wouldn’t make any sense for her to get an episode in a mini series about gender swapped characters, but I totally agree with you man. She’s among my favourite characters and she has like ~20 minutes of screen time total. 4 years later we still don’t have any Finntress closure lol
@@des2562 I mean, it could if done right. Fionna, Cake, and Simon could land in the main universe again in the middle of a forest, suddenly Huntress Wizard pops out of nowhere after sensing their interdimensional magic.
@@Green1sh01 maybe… or maybe we’ll get a few glimpses at the main universe here and there… I’m honestly not a big fan of having the new series take place in a universe that basically stops 99% of everyone’s favorite characters from making any appearances at all, but hey maybe they’ll prove me wrong and we’ll get to see HW. Or maybe we’ll see HW’s gender swap version interact with Fionna, that could be interesting (tho it wouldn’t be a replacement for regular HW imo)
pls ;(
It would’ve been so hilarious to me, if after Rock Larry was turned back to normal and excited about seeing Spader, Pep just feels awkward about it and turns him back into a rock.
That’s what I thought would happen
I can’t believe he actually fuckin died
@@kemonito7132 I mean a lotta people actually died in this movie like a joke, I don't think the original TV killed that many people
@@kemonito7132 With blood too
@@kemonito7132 Fr 😭 I was so surprised they committed to him actually being dead lol
I don’t think Pep reverted back to his same old self in Together Again. I think he still definitely has a darkness to him, but with less of the fucked up evil-ness that old Pep had. Take what he said near the end of Wizard City, “I still want to be a powerful wizard jerk… just not… him”.
I completely agree, it makes perfect thematic sense for Pep to still be the one we know and love but a little different, it's kinda like the greatest theme of the show after Muto became the showrunner, that everything stays, but still changes ever so slightly.
I think the same tbh. I have no proof but maybe Cadebra is still alive and well, maybe she's the one who put the flower crowns on the Basket ball and the skull.
@@gustavoduarte3507 True, I just think the way they did it was a little confusing. I was hoping that by the end of the episode maybe old Pepbut was going to reconcile with the new kid version and let him learn and grow, fade away and give him a softer nudge and reconcile two parts of him to eventually grow into a superior Pepbut prime of sorts, who's kinder and willing to learn and grow and be less of a jerk. I think that's still the vibe but it's kind of confusing when it looks like he... exorcised himself out of himself to not be himself? It's odd that it almost implies old Pepbut is dead, but apparently he's not in the future. Huh.
On that note though, I do appreciate this special implying Pepbut definitely has some darkness and cruelty within him. It feels like a deserved payoff for a character who was always implied to be wrapped in some bad vibes and dark juju but it was always played off for laughs and never explored as he was a side character. It's cool to see the other side of that. Kind of wish we ever got that for Princess Bubblegum who constantly did unethical science things toward the end of the series and never suffered any repercussions for that and we the audience never got a clue in she was working through some bad thoughts herself.
@@gregvs.theworld451 your comments on bubblegum seem outdated since there were entire arcs about her
...same for pepbut, actually. his dark side showed up MANY times within the main show. when did you stop watching?
@@tipsy634 Well, I mean yes we saw his darkness, but mostly in a way that was like him doing/saying a messed up thing and it being played for laughs like whoa! that's messed up and shocking! which of course is fine. I just liked seeing some of the characterization that may have led to Pepbut being the kind of person that constantly does shifty, dark, borderline immoral things.
If it is a prequel, then a good take away would be “even if you end up right where they were steering you, you can still get there without their verbal abuse”
PREACH
personally as a PB fan this episode made me kinda mad i never saw him as a bad person necessarily but sorta a more extreme bubblegum where he’s so devoted to his craft he doesn’t take into account the emotional consequences of his actions
I’d agree but I watched that clip of what he did to Peacemaker’s kids as the poor guy watched and damn lol PB is cruel
It's no together again but the episode actually works pretty well as a pilot for a new series, I'd actually be more interested in more of this than a Fiona and Cake show
I definitely want an AbracaDebra show. edit: Wait, is it Cadebra?
I agree! After I finished this episode I wanted more of Wizard City featuring New PB and Cadebra with their Wizard School adventures! It's might be a mix of slice of life and maybe drama on maybe how New PB will return to his old self later.
I actually prefer this Wizard stuff than the upcoming Fionna & Cake spin-off that deals with yet another multiverse stuff (i'm just tired of this as a DC and Marvel fan). I'd still watch it tho because I'm an Adventure Time fan.

i actually would have preferred a susan strong and her friend adventure for a continuation of her character, and bmo wasnt that bad
Oh, wow. A special episode about Susan and Frieda could've been so great.
BMO was literally just like an extended Adventure Time episode, and that isn't a bad thing. It was just fun.
This episode hit home for me on a personal level.
I think with struggles of acedemics and not living up to my expectations it really hit me. I think with these show, each one touches on a different aspect of the human experience. Whichever one affects you most, is most likely to resonate with...
PB didn't just become who he used to be. The old PB died, maybe even got destroyed when his soul got separated. Old PB was evil and needed to go down. The new PB still uses dark magic it seems, but he's probably a much better person.
definitely think that is the case. he probably does dark magic stuff but with a purpose now.
Like he stole finn's bones, but he probably did it with the intent of using them for the greater good now.
Yeah, Bubblegum probably retired and is with Marceline somewhere else, while PepBut made a statue in her honor and turned the Candy Kingdom into the Dark Magic Kingdom
@@deadcool3227 yes if you seen the candy kingdom ruins and giant prizeball guardian in graybles 1000+ episode i guess candy kingdom demolished maybe bubblegum left to the pepbut this is why kngidom fall or maybe most of the new or old candy citiziens go to space to new planets to live and some of old candy people still living in the prizeball guardian maybe a big enemy come to ooo and maybe there is a threat to them than princess bubblegum and pepbut try to save candy people with prizeball guardian and maybe bubblegum be sure candy people are safe and she just stay with marceline or married whatever
I tink it's haw princes bubelgumm was before her arch she did some morably grey tings but for the good of the candy peaple
PB said he still wants to be a dark wizard, just not the pb that haunted him. I feel like It makes sense for him to become his old self but less evil which it appears he is in together again since he leads the candy kingdom now.
It’s weirdly poetic how the first episode of Adventure Time and the last episode of Distant Lands were never meant to be the first and last episode.
what episode should have been the first?
@@veryoriginalandfunnyname9219 I believe it was The Enchiridion.
I disagree on your point about him ending up the same way. He never dropped his plans to become a wizard with spooky ass magic. He just decided that didn't mean he had to be someone cruel and uncaring.

i mean it came out 3 day ago
i watched it but i didnt understand what choose goose was doing, why is he in hell again? i know he's kinda a con man but enlighten me please
@emmerrick a year late, but the reason why choose goose is in hell is because at the end of wizard city, he ends up drinking the ichor, and presumably turns into a monster, and presumably does evil thing after that.
I really feel for the crew that worked on this series, they had 3 amazing episodes to work with but then were told to make a 4th at almost the last minute. I mean, they made it work! it was sweet and i loved seeing PB again, but you can tell it wasn't supposed to be the original finale. still love it tho!
hot take, I thought bmo lost was fine.
strange to say that my favourite part of it was the background art, but I genuinely really enjoyed it.
I think the issue with BMO lost was, it felt like generic filler. The characters were interesting only half way through, the plot was flawed and the idea that BMO just so happens to come across the green circle thing hours before the place got destroyed is just too much of a coincidence for me, specially when you realize that thing was in space.
The BMO special is entirely just a commentary on capitalism.
@@YaBoiAshX tbh I can appreciate the filler approach with the context of the rest of Distant Lands being more or less story driven (wrapping up storylines, continuing them etc etc). I think it was a nice and especially safe reintroduction to the new series, as something that’s still Adventure Time but something different?
I agree, I enjoyed it. BMO is one of my favorite side characters, and it was just fun, a little chaotic, and while filler-ish, it's much better than some of the other filler in the original series (and I agree with the above person who said it's a good introduction for what to expect from Distant Lands). BMO as a character just serves as an archetype of innocence and naivety in my eyes, and that's what the episode gives.
i think it was just not solid enough to be a 40 mins episode but it wasnt *bad* just so, so long
BMO is my second favorite Adventure Time HBO special. It's one of the few times we actually got actual concrete details on what happened to the humans.
blaine also says “stop right there, criminal scum!”
I had to go back 10 seconds to see if the ad I got a millisecond after Rocky got shot to see if it was part of the video. It was so perfectly timed.
I would have loved if this premise was spun-off into its own show honestly. It has a ton of potential and I had a blast watching it.
First off BMO movie is perfect to me and you can't change my mind. But I woulda traded PB episode for a Simon episode. I woulda rather seen simon pursue finidng Betty only to come to terms with knowing he'll never see her again.

What I want is a Huntress Wizard special. Maybe a resolution on her and Finns relationship. But more to the side since Finns already had an episode.
I just really wanna resolution to Finns love life.
Also a Susan episode traveling parts of Ooo we haven’t seen yet with Frieda.
Those 2 feel essential. But personally I want a special about Lady Rainicorn. Lady is a reoccurring character of the supporting cast that we really haven’t seen at all in the specials.
It’d be more in line with the PB or BMO episodes. Just a fun adventure
YES!!! *Cadebra was such a great character. I loved her presence and it was also my favorite of the short series.*

I thought the same thing too, never been a Fionna and Cake guy, but the multiverse thing seems really interesting.
I guess it might just be Fiona and Cake so that they don't keep trying to add more to the same universe.

Those last 4 episodes of adventure time opened so many opportunities for more stories to be told
Kinda love how...Adventure Time has characters stumble, bumble a lot or make funny noises. How relatable the characters are as they struggle through just existing. Alongside climbing larger obstacles. Like a natural flow.
I need more.

How can we call this a finale at all to begin with, when Adventure Time with Fionna and Cake will continue the story next year. Isn't it clear at this point? Adventure Time is going to live on and on. After this next chapter for Simon, Fionna, and Cake, it isn't hard to imagine that a Beth and Shermy series could be on the way, and after that, maybe a Marceline and Bubblegum series, and then maybe some more Distant Lands specials. It seems so obvious to me now that this was the plan all along. Adventure Time was never really going to end, it was just going to move on to the next phase of telling the stories they want to tell. I wouldn't be shocked if a proper theatrical film were on the way in the next few years at this point.
So with that in mind, I have no problem with this chapter in Adventure Time seeming like the odd entry that it is. Right now it feels strange as a follow up to Together Again, but give it 5 years, and I think it's place in the franchise really wont seem as out of place as it does. Ultimately, Together Again, probably should be the be-all-end-all finale for Adventure Time, but, we are a loooooong way from the end of Adventure Time truly being that reality. So, I dunno, I kinda don't mind that we have the proper finale now. The story is clearly going to venture off from Finn and Jake, and I'll always want to know what their finale is even as the series moves forward, so I kinda appreciate we have that story now. And, they jump around the timeline a bunch anyway, it's not like they can't still give us another great Finn and Jake story as we move forward into that world.
I'm good with new spin-offs/specials and all that,i just hope they show more about the mushroom war,i been waiting that for years
I liked and subscribed because it is rather nice to hear a youtube video talking about what they like about a show ~for a change from what RUclips normally recommends me.
From my understanding since that wasn't the ghost of pb but instead it was a curse he put on himself to always strive to be the best in the dark arts. This explains why it's verbally basically the huge punt of verbal abuse being thrown on post dumb² juice pb. I think the original pb was also effected by this curse and even though he became incredibly powerful it might have humbled him into realizing being the best isn't that important. Which would explain him basically making hella friends with princess, celestials , demi gods etc.
What I love about this episode is that it shows how big the world really is. In the perspective of the 4 main characters, the world feels small because they're one of the most powerful people in Ooo. But here we see how huge Ooo really feels from the perspective of a normal citizen (aka young Pepbut). Where Wizard City is a big and bustling place where so much happens that you actually believe each kingdom or territory has enough content to have their own series.
8:55 wow he is gonna love the new show then!
Man what i would do to be a kid again and watch every episode after school for the first time as they aired. If there ever is another series like adventure time that fills the same void i would be very happy.
Good to know the Adventure Time world can still carry on after all these years 😊
I was soo hyped for this episode because i love any time we get to see wizard city
If I had to rank the distant land specials from worst to best I’d say Bmo last, Wizard City, Obsidian, and Together Again I’m sure this is probably everyone’s same ranking but if not that’s cool
Why hate bmo what did he do to deserve it
@@SalsaBeDrippin nothing it’s just compared to the others it’s not my favorite I don’t hate it but for me it’s the weakest

@@awesomeclown like for me it’s cause it was a prequel and this was before bmo got his character development it wasn’t bad in my opinion it was just like oh so that’s how he met finn and jake okay didn’t need to know that but sure
It softened the 3rd movie's ending, so in a way AT never ended
I loved this episode, except for how little development they allotted to the “villain” professor. She seemed fascinating.
Found the dynamic between cadebra and pep really endearing, because the way they made young Princess bubblegum be all rambunctious, silly, driven. Idk it just seems he need that rock to attach himself to. He always needs a princess bubblegum
i cant understand why you hate the bmo episode so much, it was a cute little expository that adds some lore to what we already kinda had known. Just wanna get a better understanding cause its just interesting to hear cause i loved all the distant lands eps.
The issue was the episode took too long to get interesting
Ngl, I had no idea this was the end of the mini series.
Maybe that's why I loved it so much lmao. Expectations are there even when you say "Nah I set them low".
🥺 i actually felt this episode deeply
Hahaha I would love it if Choose Goose becomes an antagonist, he seems both so silly and evil. Though... in episode three he looked like he was good again so, redemption arch? unless Fin and Fiona's universe have their own death worlds, which is where I think Choose Goose will appear in.
If they ended on together again, it could have been used as a definitive ending to the series, which would have been fine it its own right, but ending on a story that's almost completely removed from the characters of finn and jake leaves room for further stories in the same world. I think its a good epilogue to the proper finale
i think it really shows you that the adventure time world moves on
How much Harry Potter-like this episode do you want this to be?
Adventure time team: Yes
For an episode that wasn’t meant to exist, they did a damn good job
I do wish Huntress Wizard showed up, I know she’s kinda doing her own thing but she is still a wizard after all
I mean she showed up at Finn’s birthday party (seems like she got an exclusive invitation since the invitation list was so small and the candy kingdom was on lockdown at the time) in “Seventeen” so it’s not like she can’t leave the forest at all.
Now stop me if Im wrong, but maybe the reason why Pep But kinda turns back to his old self is because of the order of the stories and the fact that 1-3 were already planned out before the order of the 4th? I mean idk, but I definitely agree that the whole "PB goes back to his old self" is pretty unsatisfying after seeing the end of this episode.
Yeah I agree like man why would he ever destroy his past his past was great not staying with cedebra
i mean he kept saying he wanted to be his old self, just not exactly like his old self
It could've good if Ep 3 and Ep 4 were switched, that would've been a great finale
I was pleasantly surprised at how much more tolerable Cadebra is than her pitiful uncle. Her dynamic with PB reminds me Billy and Mandy and now I want a show of them.
Fortunately, I enjoyed watch tv shows. I hope they will idea new "Adventure Time: Wizard City" tv shows.
This episode feels like the setup for a new series
I would watch an entire show with just cadabra and peppermint ngl.
I felt like adventure time, but at the same time I forgot it was adventure time.
Awesome review - you summed it up great!
This is one of those eps that would be a very beloved but easily forgettable oneshot in the series itself. It's Adventure Time doing its Adventure Time thing, an extended episode which was a playground for the writers to do what they wanted.
It was never meant to be the finale for Distant Lands, but it was the last ep the DL team worked on, and they said themselves they had more fun with this ep, probably because they had lots of experience by that point and didn't have to worry about dealing with major character storylines. They were able to be more creative with this.
As opposed to bMO, because while that ep was creative, production was ROUUUUUGH. Really difficult. That might be why the ep turned out so subpar. Like with how s1 was the worst season because production on that was a nightmare.
A comment about peput: DL team pointed out yesterday that the castle on the Candy Kingdom in Together Again is supposed to have symbolism that represents both light and dark magic, so Peps has been very interested in both, as opposed to his hyperfixation on dark magic in the main series. I do agree though that it's confusing. I guessed this when Together Again aired (I wouldn't see PB giving PB the crown if he was super evil and sacrificing people like before), but I'm glad they said it out loud.
Technically, this could take place after “together again.” We know bubblegum can live a long time, and we have no idea how long the rest of them can live. So we don’t necessarily know if this occurs before or after that event.
But anyway, I like how this sort of takes on this idea that a person can be abusive towards themselves. A lot of people are their own worst critic, and this shows how detrimental it can be to not be kind to yourself and why it’s important to not let your past drag you down. I feel like a lot of people go through something like this at some point in their lives, but when they look back they think they were kind of acting like a jerk (which PB totally was being a jerk to cadabra) and they so they don’t like thinking about it much. A very nice and relatable story that I don’t see done well very often.
I think somebody on the show said to think of Together Again as the actual finale and to think of Wizard City as a bonus special
Cadabra is a great character because she loves Fake Magic, witch is something that has never been explored in fantasy.
The key difference between the old PB and new PB can be seen in Together Again. Instead of taking Finn and Jake's bones, he asked to use them.
Pretend to care by liking? You freaking got it my "friend"!
Honestly I loved the voice actor they used for the tadpole wizard. I loved every second when he was on screen
imo the watch order should be bmo, wizard city, obsidian, together again
Kadabra was like one of those videogames that makes you think you have a choice, but it all ends the same anyway
I would love to see Fiona and cake with its episode 1 energy
Lovely, cute, sweet, Dark, unsettling and creppy
When I realized the first episode was all BMO I really didn't want to watch it but I gotta tell you I enjoyed it by the end I feel like it was worth the watch. I mean I don't plan on watching that episode again but it was a good one and done moment with some new characters that I liked
Adventure time whyyy I love the old adventure time watch i the last episode season 10 almost made me cry I wish it never ended like that I miss old adventure time 😭
I think this was made the last episode so more people would still be craving for more adventure time
" It's not Together Again but its still better than BMO"
That is the most accurate way to describe this .... last episode.
If someone asks me about Adventure Time, I'm going to recommend ´++´´ watch Wizard City before Toghether again.
Pepbud always was how he ended up, he always was going to end up how he did again because I don’t think that the curse is a very accurate representation of him, it’s more like how he saw himself back then and pushing him to be what he thought he was instead of what is is.
I'll admit, I am kind of sad that we didn't get a Hunteress Wizard + Finn episode. The Finn episode we got was good, but leaves us with the question of WHAT happened between Finn being a late teen at the end of the series and his death as an OLD MAN. Did he stay with Huntress, if not did he hook up with someone else, did he ever have kids, did he ever get married, how about divorced and/or remarried?
SO MANY QUESTIONS!
I NEED ANSWERS!!!
Pretty sure the writers left a lot of Finn’s life ambiguous just to let us fill in the gaps ourselves… which is nice, but I wish we were given a scene with him and HW
Imagine if Little Peppermint just showed back up to the Candy Kingdom as a giant mint striped furry monster.
Together again literally traumatized me, i sat there like this 😮 the entire time.
I’d look at this going in as a “lost episode” - they used to do that a lot with cartoons and you knew going in that the lost episodes weren’t going to be the best. They just were the last.
Trinston was here ..
I Get That It's Meant To Be 3rd..
But Like..
I Sorta..Still Count This Happening After Together Again. I Dunno It Feels Like It Should?
Also Even If Canonically This Happens Before Together Again...Maybe PepBut Is Different From Peppermint Butler?
And Even If Not...We Still Don't Know Why Peppermint Butler Needed Their Bones? Maybe It Was To Perform The Curse On PepBut?
Well this is a slap in the face, i thought we had 2 more episodes
maybe one day they will give us more of these type of epilog episodes on adventure time but only time will tell. for now i will just have to be happy with fiona and cake until i can finally see if fin finally had a family or something after jake died or how the new ice king is doing after gunther became him. until then
I think Wizard City is an ending yet an opening I think the reason why it was released after Together Again was to show us there are plenty of more stories that can be told in the Adventure Time universe and based off reception and ratings of Distant lands as a whole it can lead to more episodes/seasons being green lit if there is an interest for it.
Originally wizard city was supposed to be the third episode but some fuckery occurred so Wizard city ended up being the last episode. Kinda wish distant lands got renewed for a part 2 since it feels like it opens new Mysteries like why is Bronwyn living with Finn and why are they still young when all the pups were in their 30's by the end of the series? What happened to Princess Bubblegum that she's frozen in possibly candy stone? What exactly did choose goose do with the tadpoles that made him end up in Dead World 1? Also I really want a Shermy and Beth story since I really wanna know what happened to Ooo 1000 years later. Especially since its likely Jake died before Jermaine leaving Finn to go on a few adventures with Jermaine before he passes too.
This was a good episode.
But yes on rewatch Together Again is a fantastic finale and is what I needed after the show's original ending.
ngl i was kinda disapointed that theres no huntresswizard in this episode
This episode is my second best (just under the uncontested best one "Together again" ) and tbh I really like the story that it tells
Peppermint butler is the creed of adventure time
That’s the best explanation for me
This show is truly great!
I liked this as a last episode because it had classic adventure time elements
I just realized after watching this that the bottom of hell where we see choosegoose is a pit full of bootleg moisturizer
I actually really enjoyed this episode
I really want a sequel series about pepbut and cadebra
Wizard city was supposed to be the third however due to a long list of reasons they were swapped
Pepbutt revealing his contingency plan for marceline lol
I did enjoy all four Distant Lands specials even if BMO and Wizard City are more comedic and are more on cute but darker wired nonsense. I am more a BMO Stan. Both Obsidian and Together Again are God tier.
Honestly together again doesn’t do enough to show us how peppermint Butler turned out for us to have seen whether or not he curb some of his former selfs darkest tendencies
Loved this episode, just wish it was third instead of 4th.
