    Coach Sanders has a heart for young people. He owes no one an explanation for taking that job in Colorado. He tried to uplift and train our youth with his Prime Academies in the Dallas-Ft Worth. The powers that be and our folk helped derail that mission. I wonder what was really going on at Jackson State to encourage his departure?

    The Deion Sanders move to Colorado reminds me of when some black people say they don't vote because their vote doesn't matter. The common answer to that is - if our vote doesn't matter, why do they try so hard to stop us from voting. The PWI institutions saw that Deion was starting something very special at HBCU institutions that was going to take away from their pockets. So they had to stop him.

    We grew up in Jamaica on Anansi stories; they were as popular as Aesop’s fables. I will search for that book. Everyone told these stories to their children and they passed it on from generation to generation through “ word of mouth”. It came from our African culture during enslavement, they didn’t know English, so in the early days it was passed on to us as bedtime stories told by your parents and grandparents. Anansi was a “ trickster” . He was always a con artist! Those were fun days😂

Yes whatever is happening at Jackson State and all HBCUS is part of our absolutely rich and irreplaceable culture dating back generations of us and yes the rest of mankind can imitate it but they cannot do it as we do because we are the originals and have always been able to thrive and survive no matter how hard our circumstances have been. Can't keep us down for too long my peoples. Deon Sanders is part of us the originals no matter what my peoples.

If Jackson State goes back down the tube it wont be because of Sanders. It will be because of the decisions the university make going forward. Build off what he did. Pick up the baton and thank him for what he started. He on to another goal.

    21.57 - In reply to Dr Carr's question what should we be doing? regarding American privatisation of Afrikan resources. It behoves our global Afrikan interest to invite Keidi Awadu to this discussion, where he will explain that 1.1 BILLION dollars a day is spent by Afrikan Americans betweeen November and January on seasonal shopping. Just 10% of that spending, diverted to capital development investment bonds would begin to transform the Afrikan continent by investing in natural resources and infrastructure development. Check out Keidi's books, The Repairing and Futurenomics.

    I don't think any person ratoinally singles out Deion Sanders. I think he is symbolic of a bigger issue where it seems "our" best and brightest flip sides instead of standing with the whole. I also don't think Deion used the HBCU system for his own gain nor had a deep desire to even leave. As a person that has followed him, his mantra has always been to first visualize the success you want and then live up to that image. He states he learned this from watching "hustlers" growing up and the biggest motivation he has always had was to make something of HIMSELF. His mantra has always been self-improvement through the power of the will and that seems like what he has been passing since his playing days ended JSU included. For him to sell that to so many and then pass up individual opportunities that came he was would be hypocritical to his mantra.

    • @TheEncyclopediaBrown
      @TheEncyclopediaBrown 2 года назад +1

      I agree that Coach Sanders's current story is symbolic of a number of bigger and deeper issues. As for his rhetorical stances, I agree that he has been consistent in his mantra. As for the rest, well, he's no different than any of us with regard to actions and speech. People who place the needs of larger groups ahead of their own needs or desires stand out, for all the obvious reasons. That's no less true for those who gave and give their lives and careers working in and for institutional formations that are the most in need. Grateful for the chance to explore some of the deeper issues.
