A trick to estimate the number produced is to find the serial numbers of all the examples you can. Find the average of those numbers and multiply by 2. Not precise but a reasonable estimate.
Any books you could recommend (Chap, Bloke, anyone) on early Swiss perccussion an flintlock muskets and rifles writtten in english? Thanks great video as usual
In English none that I can think of. Even in German or French there is no standard work on it. Part of the problem is that each canton was free to do as they pleased provided their guns could fire the average 17.5-18mm ball ammo. Only from 1842 did things get standardised with a universal percussion conversion and the newly built 1842 smoothbore percussion musket ordered from various Belgian gunmakers. There is an excellent book covering 1842-1867 but only in German.
TheMysticalBadger Hi, the book is volume 2 of a series called Bewaffnung und Ausrüstung der Schweizer Armee seit 1817. The book is “Eidgenössische Handfeuerwaffen bis 1867.
Very beautiful "Field Stuzer" and an interesting further development within >3 years from the drawing board to the final Ordonanz weapon, in spite of the simplification beautiful compartment preserved. Does this weapon have the same "compression bullet" as the Austrian Lorenz rifle M 1854?
Typically I'm not interested in muzzle loaders but the muzzle crowns and ramrods have grabbed my attention.
My 1851 has a tapped hole for a tang sight. Have you ever seen one for sale? Looking looking…
Great information on your video. Nice rifles.

@@thebotrchap What is the title of the German work? Also, do you know of any source of molds for the 1863 pattern bullet?

From where do you know what & how much powder and what bullets to load in these?
From the books which deal with them and their ammunition :)
@@BlokeontheRange Thanks! Do you have a particular book in mind about these? :)
Im currently watching all your muzzle loading videos 😄
Chappie can better answer you that, cos it's his book :)
