    Yeah, they've become something of a comfort band for me. This band has meant so much to me personally and, honestly, something about them not changing their music a whole lot, similar formula and all, is oddly comforting. Like I ALWAYS know what I'm going to get with TAA and it's nice having them, like an anchor (haha more water reference) in a scene that has a lot of bands trying to do so many different things

    Ahren does also have pretty nasty highs, put on display in the song(s): Death is all around, as well as a Feature with the band Confession, in their song Holy War. Live, Amity does change things up a little, especially Ahren who frequently joins Joel in heavy vocals. Love the reviews guys.

    Everything you have said here is bang on, yet they are a band I’ve listened to and loved since I first heard I Heart Throbsy as a teenager. They can still put out some bangers (Soak Me In Bleach & Like Love for example).
    Hard to explain, I just keep coming back to them. Credit it to them, they’ve been around for 15yrs and still pull crowds (Good Things Brisbane).

    ♫ Your geeniiitaaaliaaaaa ♫ dw i'm with you Johhny I got you ;) For real though, completely agree. Amity have always been a band that have just not spoken to me. Entirely with you on this Johnny... I love bands like Imminence, silent planet, fit for a king etc... metalcore bands which have that bit of extra grit and strain and emotion in their clean vocals, you can really hear what they feel. While to me this is probably the best original (I loved their cover of born to die) amity song ive heard (love the heaviness and the choir chanting sounds).. as soon as the clean vocals come in, it just becomes a very safe pop song to me... doesnt challenge my emotions at all, feels a bit lifeless despite him being a good singer. I love that they touch on heavy subjects... and as you both said they have always done this and helped a lot of people, but for me.. as you also said, I listen to music to make me feel good.. not just sad people being angry.

    I have a lot of opinions on this band so I’ll try to keep it short because I’m on my phone lol…
    I totally understand everything you guys are saying and it’s true… yet I love them. Let the Ocean Take Me is such an important album for me for personal reasons.
    I’ve also discovered certain songs on their albums hit at different times.
    But yes, the choruses can get a little repetitive but I guess for me that doesn’t bother me. I can also say that I like the topic of their songs being darker. It’s a reason I loved the Alkaline Trio and Bayside as well.
    There’s a lot about their music that keeps me personally coming back but I can see where some would have issues.
    Definitely loved this track but “All Fucked Up” is my tops for sure 😍

    • @NimaNiknam
      @NimaNiknam Год назад +2

      This is the same for me. I understand what they say and it is true but I do agree that the choruses being similar doesn't bother me. I like the mix of clean and unclean vocals throughout the song even if they do get to be similar. And I agree All Fucked Up is probably my favourite as well and that's one song that they do branch out a little with the formula.

  • @aaronhansen5101
    @aaronhansen5101 Год назад +2

    Got to say that while some of their albums do sound the same, Misery broke that with a lot of different approaches.
    Drag The Lake and Set Me Free off of Misery does show that Ahren has a little bit more range that can be tapped during choruses.
    Also, Aloneliness from the last album was pretty different for the band, which does show more of Ahren’s range. Joel’s parts are all clean, too.

    Depressivecore, I checked them out at goodthings as it's been ages since I've seen them live and also to see how this song translates live and was surprised that Ahern was also doing backup screams for Joel as well as his cleans, don't think I've heard him do screams since a sleepless winter before Joel was in the band

    Been a long time fan of Amity since their first EP etc. 😊
    I’ve always enjoyed listening to them and looked forward to every album they drop, as they’ve stuck to the same formula since the very beginning. But they’ve evolved with it.
    You’ve gotta think.. they’ve been a band for how ever long.
    Like fair enough, ERRA .. bad omens and all the other bands mentioned, they’re great an all… but they are pretty new coming bands in comparison to amity.
    Those bands will of most likely taken a lot of inspiration from amity and bands like them to get to where they are now.

      @restoringforce9893 Год назад +2

      It's better when you know what to expect. TAA has one of the best choruses in the entire genre. It's pretty hard to write an unique vocal melody for a chorus. 90% of metalcore vocalists end up singing random notes that fit the scale. The melody doesn't have a resolution. It goes nowhere and doesn't have proper accents

    Anyway, never had a huge connection with TAA, they just never stuck, but I can get down with the instrumentals in this song 100%. The vocals kinda lose me with the chorus and the kids chanting before the breakdown. I get the metaphor, just not the vibe or sound.
