I would guess that most people who follow you, will never set foot in a studio, but the learning is invaluable to anyone who wants to make music. Especially appreciate your pointing out how you need to develop touch before most pedals are actually useful! Saving me untold amounts of time and $ screwing around with expensive pedals I’m not ready for yet! Having mostly played acoustic this electric stuff is still new to me and I’m still working on the touch difference. It’s a whole new world for me! And one hell of a boat load of fun! Thanks for helping me keep it that way!

One thing about copying someones entire board who has less experience playing outside of home is piece-of-mind. "Here is stuff that real people I know say work...and here is the order". "If I can't make it work, it's me". I'm not condoning it, just offering an alternate take.

For sure. Great point, I mean, I intend to try alot of the pedals Uncle recommends, because…why not? He’s done the footwork of wading through hundreds of them and found the best. But every player is different, something that works for one may seem trash to another (Frisell apparently loves the Strymon Flint), but I think we can agree that Buk has established a baseline, at least. Somewhere we can start from, and for that, man, I’m grateful. I’m just a hobby player these days, haven’t gigged in years, but I still want inspiring sounds. Now I just gotta save about $300K for a Burst. Then I’ll be happy.

Love when you discover a sound and its clear as day in that moment it works. When I first played a king of tone with a tele through a deluxe (reverb) or tweed it was an instantaneous realization. Same with the lightspeed or even this modded blues driver I have. I feel as players we overcomplicate things often. When you hear it just trust it. For me the test is always live and whatever combination puts me in a clear space in the mix

It’s a very deep rabbit hole that gets another level every year with new products. I chased tones for years and built dozens of boards at obviously great cost. Finally my guitar buddy said “You know you tell me this pedal was used by this guy on this record but honestly I never hear that.” So, I just started looking for “my sound” and that’s turned into finding other people’s tone by accident. I just think of pedals differently and it’s made my sound and playing wholly different and more enjoyable.

I have had launch pads and DigiTechs and for me, the 2 pedals and an optional old cry baby if needed are it ..

I like the three-switch pushbutton from a JC-120 in the thumbnail's bottom left. It is and has ever been a good design because it is connected straight through to three individual TS plugs. No exclusive or hard-to-get special connector. I always liked it because you can use any types of simple, regular switches - single, double or triple - for a JC-120. But of course, you can also go the other way round and use the triple switch for any type of gear other than the JC-120. Cool.

I think I might need a Noballs. I have 3 Boss BluesDrivers, and that's all I ever used since they were invented. The EQ has got me curious too. All that is strictly gigging. 8) Man, I've got the laptop plugged into studio monitors and that old flat top sounds great!! Thanks Uncle L!! Hope your having a great Sunday!! 8) --gary

That old Boss eq is the shit, I’ve had mine for 30 years, works great, simple, sounds killer, and has a very cool gain sound through a good amp if you crank it 🤟🏻 now I have to wonder if I need to send it to AnalogMan for the mod 😮

My biggest pedal disappointment was the Line 6 DL4...saw it on so many pro boards, but when I got mine is just seemed to sap so much high end and put a pillow over my sound even when off. I am a delay addict though, I will try anything once!

Hi Tom. I think you are the master at playing man sound choice, however I really enjoy tube screamers. With a LP into a marshall it is incredible. I also think that if you tried the handwired version, without being stubborn, you might just like it my friend!

Another fantastic episode that was very poignant. I can't believe I always thought volume pedals were a waste of space until about two months ago when I got an Ernie Ball to make swells easier than using the guitar volume knob.

You're the first person besides myself that has said you can't play without a volume pedal. I started using one 25 years ago and it just became a part of what I do. I get distracted without it.

I got the Nobel's because everyone seems to have one. I got the Lightspeed because, I think, that Pedal Show talked about it. I got the GE-7 because of you. I got the Tremolo because a few session guys were talking about it, and I started to notice how everyone had a mod sticker on theirs, and I thought it must be special. (still haven't got my pedals modded tho, because that would mean spending cash I don't have, lol). But I've got a Blues Driver, a RAT, and a boost I like. I'm still looking for the money to get a humbucker guitar, a marshall amp, and a few other things. I'm trying, Tom. But I'm def going to copy you because it's about emulating success

Tom, I don't know if you knew this, the Timeline dBucket algo is a 1:1 copy of the brigadier. Same sound, same parameters. As far as I know, this is the only small pedal Strymon has put out to be completely ported over to one of the big format ones.

Ha! I met you in your Line 6 snob phase....I was the other guy on the Cagle record at Blackbird in '07..... I asked for any advice and you told me not to try to go stereo and to "get rid of those LINE 6 pedals, immediately!!" You said I should get a Memory Man, which I did, and I loved it!! Of course, the L6 pedals were the old 4 button delay and modulation modelers which, after I got the Memory Man, I realized sounded like ass!

@@501chorusecho The MM opened up a whole new world for me.Wish I still had it.... ;( Been through a crap ton of delays since, el cap, timeline, etc....using the Boss DD500 currently and it's been the best sounding and most user friendly of the "multiple type" delays I've tried. Thanks for the inspiration, Tom!!
