TSU's Say Yes entrance at 14:54 gave me Chills due to the rich low brass warmth. Such a butta musical moment! The tubas were letting everybody know we were in their presence.
Funny how every year people complain about TSU's book. So when they play some rap tunes, just like every other SWAC band. Something negative is said. Good job both bands.
I love the boom, but I give this to TNSU. To my surprise, TNSU had more power, but still maintained a clean sound. That Say Yes was the truth!!! I like JSU attempting more technical arrangements. However, the execution was hit and miss. This isn't the boom I'm used too. I felt like I was listening to a less precise Cookman. That energetic feel was absent.
I know the JSU vs SU band battle has its fans but this is the best battle of all schools. I can actually cut this on and clean up my entire house. Both bands do a great jobs choosing songs carefully. And that song JSU played at 7:00 was off the chain.
+ChicagoMarchingBands so when JSU plays a bunch of rap songs in the 5th its a problem but when TNSU does it they are better! GTFOH with these easy ass high school songs ( Gin and Juice in a 5th quarter) does not sound nothing like the song
I love TSU...for a HBCU thats not in the SWAC...yall gotta admit they sound great being in a PWI Conference OVC...so without having the pressure to battle other HBCUs....they hold it down...the OVC hasnt made them soft...but great job JSU...i mess with yall also..lol
+dandewaynejackson jsu boring this year, its nice for 2 or 3 technical pieces but leave that shit in the meac. The last song they played did sound excellent but they can do without the others.
Loved JSUs technical selections, don't have to play rap songs all the time. TSU sounds amazing as well, THEM TUBAS LAWD and I love that arrangement of Blessing. JSU still got that power too. Both bands did GREAT.
jsu is significantly larger than tsu.... or so it seems. Jsu sounds great.... but omg tsu..... I have never seen them with this much intensity. also noticed some temp problems from jsu. Jupiter was a killer arrangement. way to rep.... both schools
+Xavier Miller LOL how can you say that about the Boom's trumpets and not about TSU's. I can hear the Boom's trumpets just fine on the parts they are supposed to stick out on. This 5th wasn't even close. The Boom straight up outplayed TSU.Yall should of played those rap tunes during pregame.
+St82daP T I'm speaking on some songs I luv me some jsu but let's be honest with the brass numbers jsu has it should be more damage happening. but it's the first game plenty of time to improve but we'll see on Saturday with it being boombox week....
+Xavier Miller I think it's how the music is arranged and not the actual section. But as you stated its still early in the year and the band will only get stronger
This was a pretty decent battle over all and both bands sounded pretty good but I think I give this one to Tsu. I like how Jsu is trying to play more technical songs but it's not worth anything if you don't execute them. I also felt like the melody and chord structure kept getting lost in Jsu's songs but props for the attempt to be versatile. Tsu seemed a little more put together and although they were loud , for the most part they stayed balanced. Tsu did lose me with some poor arrangements and bad song selections but they executed what they did and that's the name of the game. Good job to both bands, I'll be ready to see what Jsu brings to the table when we see them in Pv!
Very slight esge to Jackson. Both banda sounded EXXELLENT. Very clean. Although, TSU was kinda too clean. that became clear when they played "in those jeans", just because "IFeel" Southern has a trademark in that song. I give Jackson the edge only because of the "stank" they had on thier already clean sound. and a little better song selection. TSU, keep doin you. I enjoyed everything you played, the sound is there.
man tnsu won this won this one! obviously because Jsu has a sync issue on multiple songs. both bands sound great but cmon son look at the five directors you have.
in all honesty. the Boom show way more diversity in their book. they appealed to all audiences with hip hop, modern r&b, old school, new Jack swing, and technical pieces. with fixable tempo issues I'd say the Sonic Boom is a force to be reckoned with. JSU won but TSU sounds amazing
Coming from a Maze fan, it hurt me to listen to them BUTCHER "Can't get over you". JSU can play, NO QUESTION, but not being able to follow tempo is an issue reserved for 6th grade bands not college ones
I gotta say, even though I'm a Boom fan all the way I can't give em the W for the 5th. Tnsu power, song selection, balance, everything was on point. Meanwhile, jsu trumpets was getting swallowed and btones sound like they not the beasts that we used to hearing over there. Like tgey not fully ready for the boom's play style yet but it's early so...
being there in person jsu did not sound that clean they were just loud and had a echo while tsu were very clean with the sound but otherwise they were both great
Tnsu won the 5th its not all about being loud until jsu realizes this theyll be just another loud band. I think jsu will have a problem with the Louisiana bands this year. Both Grambling and Southern!!! Not hating on jsu either!!!
Stop it you know jsu and su are the best bands hands down jsu sound great although last year they sounded better but truth be told jsu always will be a power house and for tsu they sound good but still need to step it up
I have a great deal of respect for jsu and what they do but I've heard way better sounding jsu bands it seems to me their trying to overblow and play their music. Ive heard su and I've heard grambling both sound good. I think if jsu would tone it down a bit theyll be ok. Southern sounds dam good this year and so does Grambling. Im not hating on jsu or nothing like that but you can only be loud for so long and then once they run across a band thats not focused on being just loud but also playing their horns its gone be tough for em!!!
TnSU won to me. JSU playing everything up tempo is not good.. you massacred Tiger of San Pedro..SMH. Please regain your old style.. this was a down year for JSU, regardless of instrumentation...
Where is the 339. I counted 250-260. Couldn't be 100 percent on the number because they so cramped but still 250-260. Never counted 300 nothing the entire season.
I think and I say this for the 1st time ever..that I have to give TSU the slight nod for the win. If this boom show up at SU this weekend they will get the same thing that dega got if not worse.
Foolishness!! How can you chose TNSU over JSU. Song selection is all we talk about in other band debates. JSU was clean enough, had more than enough power and has an amazing book so far. TNSU just couldn't hang to me...
Honestly, Im just listening for arrangements that the band brings to life...that I can jam to and that they seem to have fun with. I grew up across the street from Norfolk, went to Hampton, and so being a MEAC boy Im expecting a certain sound from the big SWAC bands and JSU delivers that for me in this video. Now I was just there when they went to southern and got that ass blown on, but i still love their arrangements.
What game were u at guy? Southern can't hang with jsu either even though they are the only band that comes close...tsu has a good band though I would put them third after jsu and southern
If JSU trumpets would have flat come on out with it then the boom would have flat out won. Those trumpets are not pushing shit. Besides that. The boom is the truth
so while all the mention of being technical, should we forget the terrible tuba/drum execution for the several seconds after 23:35 or the merge of notes during Jupiter?
wasn't really impressed with either band. TNST too many rap songs. (that's not how we do things). :/ JSU not that clean but they were both pretty good balanced bands. almost like they switched places. looked weird.
The boom just crank its they only play rap songs. We play musically with power showing we can do it all. The boom gave you everything you can ask a band to do and let's not forget this is THEE BOOM's first game
I didn't know there were zero quarter & fifth quarter specific songs. Now when jsu plays something from the fifth in the zero it's not going to be a problem right.?
JSU has power....yea ok. So since when is power good when you sound LOUD and TRASHY. I'd rather have a bullhorn blasted in my ear and roaches crawling on my feet than to listen to this alleged power. TSu was loud and very well balanced. The music TSU played came to life. Tsu-a work of art. Jsu (power)- finger painting...both are pieces of art, but one is more defined, balanced, clear, realistic. Example. Both bands play Yoga. Jsu's yoga hardly stays true to the song. Tsu's yoga sounds like the song through and through. BUT if you're judging on who is the loudest (most wrong) as opposed to true musicianship and composition I guess you would choose Jackson.
Good job both bands.
exactly
Man that's what I'm saying. Tsu been technical but now that's over looked. Can't win for losing.
JSU tempo issues needs work. They sounding great though. TSU got my vote in this.
Tsu tubas sound amazing...
yes they do
TNSU tubas ate regardless and that gangsta paradise was pure heat
Great job on both sides. TNSU's Tubas are RIDICULOUS!!!!
I know the JSU vs SU band battle has its fans but this is the best battle of all schools. I can actually cut this on and clean up my entire house. Both bands do a great jobs choosing songs carefully. And that song JSU played at 7:00 was off the chain.
I'm a boom fan but I'm sorry TnSU got this one. Song selection, clarity, balance, and them tubas. Lawd!!
Lol people will never be satisfied. When TSU plays rap it's a problem, when they play technical it's a problem.
Man!!!!!!! I couldn't agree more....
I think is the 1st time ever I've preferred TNSU in the 5th. Both bands did a good job!
+ChicagoMarchingBands so when JSU plays a bunch of rap songs in the 5th its a problem but when TNSU does it they are better! GTFOH with these easy ass high school songs ( Gin and Juice in a 5th quarter) does not sound nothing like the song
+Travist Rushing Quit hating bruh, he didn't say none of those things you just assumed.
+Travist Rushing right man...I was there...jsu played musical arrangements. ..
JErnestIII lol. I didn't trash either band. But I do know HBCU band heads are the most sensitive mofos on the planet. All for 1 or none at all lol
ChicagoMarchingBands Foreal, It's hard to have an opinion around bandheads man...
I love TSU...for a HBCU thats not in the SWAC...yall gotta admit they sound great being in a PWI Conference OVC...so without having the pressure to battle other HBCUs....they hold it down...the OVC hasnt made them soft...but great job JSU...i mess with yall also..lol
+jgutter34 hell yea. i would love to have TSU in the MEAC
jsu had way more technical arrangements along with power and a very clean sound..
have to agree with you on that Tennessee state selection was horrible
+dandewaynejackson jsu boring this year, its nice for 2 or 3 technical pieces but leave that shit in the meac. The last song they played did sound excellent but they can do without the others.
+jacob berry oh ok
+jacob berry lol @ leave that shit in the MEAC.
But it was a problem last year when TSU played more technical arrangements 😴😴 y'all can't never be pleased..
Tenn St impressed the hell out me
it's unanimous!! TSU for the W.
ima have to give this one to tsu. 4:35 is sick
Good 5th. I'm going wth TnSU due to the constant tempo issues....ugh it kills me....but JSU was very entertaining and powerful.
TNst tubas tho! that knock
Thoroughly enjoyed both bands! I came away very impressed with my Crats though! Solid sound! There is nothing like an HBCU band battle!
Jupiter was a killer arrangement. way to rep.... both schools
tsu gave it to jsu!!!!!! I'm digging tsu
im a boom fan and im from the jack but TSU wins hands down
Look at my baby jamming in the trumpet section 😂
tnsu did good and jsu. but im impressed with tnsu this year
both bands are good and a good battle!! but I gotta admit jsu need to get the tempo and balance straight them trumpets getting straight drowned....

+Xavier Miller I think it's how the music is arranged and not the actual section. But as you stated its still early in the year and the band will only get stronger
As a former band geek, I really enjoyed JSU second piece. Just beautiful 😄
GO BOOM! Sounding great!
I just love how jus can get loud and bring it down to good dynamics
I love tsu's balance jsu's power is great but I'm going to take tsu closely very close tho.
exactly. tsu balance and musicality destroyed jsu. jsu was all power. no balance or musicality. tsu was cleaner too and their tubas were strong
+Dorian Terry all I have to say is 18:20
+Aw3s0m3D3v that was good but they were consistent with this approach the entire time. tsu' say yes at 14:50 was the showstopper for me.
+Dorian Terry are u kidding...u folks are def...Jackson state destroyed tsu musically. ..what technical song did tsu play..ill wait..
+dandewaynejackson the technical songs that jsu didn't execute that well tho.
JSU fans are a sensitive bunch. I'm going with TnSU. Balance and musicality won with me.
plus the tubas are louder than any other college, and the trumpets are really loud to without screaming
Did Anyone Hear any woodwinds from TNSU? Its already troubling the Camera is only on JSU Brass and not the entire BAND!
Is it me or is TSU Real loud????....Sound good....JSU BEASTIN as always...Slight edge to ummmmmmmmmmm TSU
yea
+sinfoniansax BCC you play for BCU
04-08
+sinfoniansax BCC what's up with d.wells not upgrading the playbook? that's crazy all he want to play is ice cream man,big ballin, vice versa ect
JSU btones aren't half as loud as they were last year...bones came up tho
SOP💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Very slight esge to Jackson. Both banda sounded EXXELLENT. Very clean. Lmao I've never heard of a band being TOO clean? isn't that good?
+sinfoniansax 1898 how can you be too clean...see thats the damn problem these days
That looks like a upright trumpet that TNSU is playing on. Haven't seen any bands play on those in a long time.
Imagine if tnstate was jsu size.....👀
man tnsu won this won this one! obviously because Jsu has a sync issue on multiple songs. both bands sound great but cmon son look at the five directors you have.
lol sippin Gin and Juice laaaaaid back I love Tnsu
in all honesty. the Boom show way more diversity in their book. they appealed to all audiences with hip hop, modern r&b, old school, new Jack swing, and technical pieces. with fixable tempo issues I'd say the Sonic Boom is a force to be reckoned with. JSU won but TSU sounds amazing

I'm a jsu fan they both did good and I can't for get about wt they did good ash
I see my bro Jonathan Johnson doing his thing much love
I gotta say, even though I'm a Boom fan all the way I can't give em the W for the 5th. Tnsu power, song selection, balance, everything was on point. Meanwhile, jsu trumpets was getting swallowed and btones sound like they not the beasts that we used to hearing over there. both bands are GREAT BUT I GOTTA GO WITH JSU
AOB playing Floetry!!!
JSU is the TRUTH.
I love Jsu, but when I was at the classic I was highly dissappointed. TNSU was all up in they ass. I was personally hurt.
being there in person jsu did not sound that clean they were just loud and had a echo while tsu were very clean with the sound but otherwise they were both great
Didn't like that Jupiter arrangement at all... Then had the nerve to add a Norfolk lic to it at the end lol
+Jonathan Mobley lol....if I hadn't played Jupiter before I may have thought it was something else
What was JSU's song @ 16:10??
dammmmmmmn TSU killed with that 2nd song @3:05
Tnsu won the 5th its not all about being loud until jsu realizes this theyll be just another loud band. I think jsu will have a problem with the Louisiana bands this year. Both Grambling and Southern!!! Not hating on jsu either!!!

I say TSU took this battle....
JState out played TnSU. . .
#JSU-W
#LuvDaBoom
I think and I say this for the 1st time ever..that I have to give TSU the slight nod for the win. If this boom show up at SU this weekend they will get the same thing that dega got if not worse.
After hearing Southern I truly believe JSU is the better band.
Not sure what ur listening to
#crat4life
Tsu won this one sorry much as I would love to give it to JSU
Does anyone know the name of the song on 16:09?
TNSU = ALL WHOLE NOTES! The songs sound like Memphis High School and I recall 4 of those songs get played
every year, Yall on some Hate Shht...
you recall wrong... none of these songs (except for paradise) were played played before 2015
+Travist Rushing You need to go back and do your research.
wtf are you talking about...you be hatin
this 5th was weird.. like seeing Jsu and Tsu switch places.
+Mac you are not the only one that feels that way
Foolishness!! How can you chose TNSU over JSU. Song selection is all we talk about in other band debates. JSU was clean enough, had more than enough power and has an amazing book so far. TNSU just couldn't hang to me...
+kelvonb09 Ok what were you listening too?

What's the name of the song @ 25:30 tsu playing
Mind Control by Big K.R.I.T
Actually tsu impressed me but JSU FINISHED THEM FAST
What's Jsu's last song
JSU brass is DEEP.
diversity in a book. W goes to JSU. tempo was thrown off by the band being spread out 4 sections. TNSU played too many old rap songs.
so while all the mention of being technical, should we forget the terrible tuba/drum execution for the several seconds after 23:35 or the merge of notes during Jupiter?
That run at 19:37 though....
jsu drum fills killing me....and the band
jsu song at 16:10??? they should have played this vs su!!!
What's the name of the song? Like it, played it before, but for the life of me can't remember the name.
Do You Remember Me - Jermaine Jackson
23:00 OMG!!!
Jackson state won
What is the song at 1:30
yoga
and tsu too
TnSU won in a category and JSU won in a category lol
TSU Tubas
Jsu just ain't coming through to me,, ! 👐🏽
I want Tsu to bring back James Bond !
we just played it Saturday in the 5th with famu...
Tsu played better songs
Fetty Wap hitting lol
wasn't really impressed with either band. TNST too many rap songs. (that's not how we do things). :/ JSU not that clean but they were both pretty good balanced bands. almost like they switched places. looked weird.
TnSu nice but I give the overall win to JSU. And yes SU bust JSU ASS this year.
tnsu had no technical tunes..
JSU trumpets need intervention
tsu playing zero quarter songs but this is the fifth...lmao and yall think they won...gtfoh!!! jsu opened a music seminar on they ass...
The boom just crank its they only play rap songs. We play musically with power showing we can do it all. The boom gave you everything you can ask a band to do and let's not forget this is THEE BOOM's first game
The Boom can't win no matter wat they do
+Jsujman0608 right.
I didn't know there were zero quarter & fifth quarter specific songs. Now when jsu plays something from the fifth in the zero it's not going to be a problem right.?
+Jsujman0608 bro...this is the first year that yall have played more than 2 technical arrangements in any 5th quarter in a while....just my $18.98
ummmmmm TSU anybody?
Jupiter was the best song Jackson played and some of those runs sounded a fool. Rushed. I'd say by the end of the song they were good though.
+King AndMoreKing lol tubas and marching euphoniums drowned your band out and you call it balanced. but what ever makes you sleep at night.
+arrogant08 it sure isn't Jackson's boom putting me to sleep.
I AGREE STRONGLY^^^^^^
This was lowkey a boring 5th... Both bands sound decent...
IN THEM JEANS THO, NO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lol i said the sme thing. Southern owns that song
Haaaaaaaaaa
Actually tsu impressed me but JSU FINISHED THEM FAST
