I've heard John talking about how the traditional top-roll the posting style top-roll never felt natural for him. He said that in a video training with Wolfell, and others I think. John's toproll almost looks like a hook, that's why it's called the high-hook move, or the can opener, it's the most dominant, and beautiful looking move in arm wrestling. And you are right, the posting style top-roll jeopardizes the hand more, whereas the high-hook top-roll style protects the hand more
İ ve watched Johns matches thousands of times. His armwrestling is just so unique in every aspect. This can opener/high hook term got famous with Devon Larrat because of his yelling etc. But John is executing this since 80 s. His toproll all about control all about makes you feel like weak turd. No one have that aesthetic and badass looking toprol than him.. You just cant fuck with the grandmaster of this sport.
@@armwrestlingelysium Off course John is the original High-Hooker, not Larratt. Larratt appropriating the name of John's most famous, and badass move just shows how great that move is
John is the original user of lots of thing. But the difference he is never be tradesman. Devon always in the trade and commercial side of this sport while John do he always do. Dominate east and west.
@@armwrestlingelysium That's how Devon operates though. Even if he's not promoting the sport he takes his time preparing, and it's usually many, and many months in-between competitions, and on the other side John is always competing, with no big breaks. John said in his livestream once to the effect of 'It's never the right time, when there is an opportunity to compete go, and compete. Never say I'm not ready, and it's not the right time" that philosophy of John is what makes him compete all the time
People cant understand how tough this is. You cant be in your top shape throughout the year. maybe one or two of your match can be in your decent shape. But John went Ongarbaev match after crushing tussle like Corey match. And i watched Ongarbaev vs John match repeatedly i watched every move of Ongarbaev and John in slowmo. John was just fatiguing as hell. İ saw clearly John still carry the marks of Corey match. And in that state still accept the match with prodigy like Ongarbaev. And still i dont think John did recover but he is going to do a match with Micheal. İnteresting man he is.
Yeah and he personally defines this kind of toproll as rolling-hand-control or dragging style toproll in comparison to the more commonplace posting roll. He also deliberately refers to this as "taras toproll" and posting as "travis toproll" in one of his tutorials for easier understanding. Which means Taras actually does basically the same as John. You can clearly see especially in slow motion when Taras pulls he would initiate a very strong cup first without supination to turn his opponents palm face up, isolating their connection to more musculature and then drag them with his toprolling route. But Taras fails against John due to John having better cup and would eventually turn Taras' palm up, thus renders Taras' better brachioradialis and bicep futile.
His toproll is a high hook. Very efficient move. Since you cup at the same time that you do your back pressure. Then you can finish with side pressure or you can choose to apply the posting toproll to win more leverage and finish your oponnent.
With the top roll hook you are dragging and snapping back, rather than using a bit of back pressure and side pressure to top roll with a relativity straighter arm.
Vitalik usually uses posting style toproll like ermes like arsen. And even tho Prudnik all rounded puller like Brzenk none of em execute like Brzenk. And i absolutely dont think Prudnik is not hand dominant as John when compare them with their golden era.(Thats my idea of course)
If you carefully watch engin terzi's way of executing his outer side pressure with almost full cup, you'll realise he even has more hand control than John Brzenk most of the time. Because engin terzi genetically wasnt gifted for thick hands and arms also he didnt have half the horse power john brzen had due to big mass and size difference. But he always literally left nothing for his opponent, first cup his wrist to fully take opponent's pronation, put his own pronation lock, loading with up pressure with his brachioradialis and constant side pressure, and drag with lat to annihilate his opponent's all angles. Just watch his matches carefully, you ll see his style is even more dominant that John brzenk's hand control wise
Yeah, one of the best moments in armwrestling history for me was when fellow North American Devon Larratt beat Pushkar left arm and yelled that during their supermatch. That's one way Pushkar learned English. ;

Great explanation dude 👏
If taras developed a press move he would have at least won a few matches with john
Exactly.
That's why he is the 🐐
your homages to john are very poetic
Thank you brother 🤝
The best hand in the game
RDR 2 raid bgm be bangin' on this video

The master of defensive top roll
Only armwrestler I have seen doing this move like going in a hook and then doing the can opener like John is Prudnik

I am unable to find one of your video, I think it was titled something like John brzenk motivation.
Yup they deleted unfortunately

Alexey Voevoda had very semiliar top roll even John said it
Music from the second part of the video?
It’s called the “Can-Opener”
My idol john brzenk 🙌
prudnik , vitaly, and levan as done that top roll as well.
Not quite exactly
@@armwrestlingelysium both vitaly and prudnik has done it in waf but not 100% like john.

Worthy of Charles Dickens or Stephen King!! ;)
You need to explain that to me dear brother. 😄 İs that a compliment or what 😄
@@armwrestlingelysium yes, a compliment, the key to good writing is the clever simile or metaphor; it's the cream in my coffee. ;)
Forgive my ignorance brother i M not American sometimes i M missing this kinda stuff ❤️ Thank you.
I don't think Taras is a posting top roll more like a high hook or cobra top roll.
Yes, he has mix of low hand and posting style toproll.

A prime John would've given the Ermes or Levan today a run for their money... and a prime John would CERTAINLY beat the Devon Larratt of today.
May be you forget levan ha
