Rock climber here. Lead climbers are endurance guys, but boulderers are explosive athletes who train a lot in max effort climbing lifts. We tend to have strong fingers and shoulders, but biceps not as strong as you'd think, and our cup strength is rarely exceptional because most climbing grips have the wrist bent slightly back
Biceps would gas out very quickly while fingers can last for a very long time. Rock climbers are usually very small guys probably the 160 lbs weight class, which means their muscles are probably small, just good finger strength an endurance, there is no carry over to arm wrestling.
@@scottgsarmwrestling4639 there are three primary types of climbing. Bouldering, lead, and speed climbing. The only ones with the great endurance are the lead climbers. Speed climbing is a 49ft wall that they climb in like 6 seconds. Pure explosiveness. Boulder routes are usually 5-10 moves across 16-20ft wall. These are high strength moves, not just for fingers, but for shoulders, chest, lats, abs.
A boulderer would have quite a bit of carry over strength. You're not getting through their fingers, they'll have a great lat drag, and they'll have at least some integrity in their UCL for side pressure. When I got into arm wrestling, I did a lot better than the average 160lb beginner. Of course there's tons to learn and build from there, but there is crossover

@@realkylehooks Fellow climber friend here, i was looking forward to type a comment like that but to my big surprise you already did it and Larry even pinned you! But if i can add something to your comment is that indeed most of the climbers are really slim, if you think about Megos and Ghisolfi, and even Schubert, thery are barely more than 50kg (110 lbs), even ondra is like 72 (160 lbs)... not a lot for armwrestling, and in bouldering (which you mentioned it) it pretty much the same, i think Woods is more or less around 70 kg. I tryed a little bit of armwrestling myself but i'm a lead climber and far weak for a sport so explosive, also a proper climber would NEVER be able to do both sports at the same time due to injury and pain in general...

Yeah, when John walks into a room, you're blown away at how big he is. First time I saw him was 2008 Harley Pull. His hands and forearms are huge and he's taller than one would Imagine.
People always say that John looks like a regular guy but they would be surprised if they stood next to him. He's 185cm tall and his entire bone structure is very thick.

This really puts in to perspective how big John is, peeps say he’s a small dude but he Deff is not, it’s just others he’s ArmWrestled was massive, but they call him the giant slayer for a reason. He brings them down most of the time. I hope this is no different but Devon isn’t the normal big guy, he has the Table IQ to boot. Either way anytime John pulls I must lean to his side and pull for him to Win

Yeah John is not a small person at all. His proportions make him look smaller when no one else is standing next him for scale. Even while knowing this, he’s bigger than you might expect in person.
And on top of that hes next to a heavy juicer and John doesnt have shoulders but damn those arms are huge hope John wins and finally puts this silly dispute to the end of Goat status

Has pins on pretty much every dominant arm wrestler ever, has beaten the likes of dave chaffee and cyplenkov in hooks, took larratts wrist in 2015, and his legacy is so great that he is unanimously agreed to be the greatest to ever do it. When John Brzenk talks close your mouth and listen. He's the best example of the SAID principle in training. To get better at AW'ing you practice AW'ing. Honored to say I have known John since the beginning of his career. There may never be another Brzenk.

I saw him at the UAL event where he beat Michael Todd back in 14, and he was straight up swole. If you see him from the right side, his arm/hand development is such that your brain doesn’t wanna believe what you’re seeing is real lol.

John’s point about baseball players is so true. In high school I beat a 290 pound lineman like it was nothing then lost to a baseball friend of mine who arm wrestled and he had the strongest hand/wrist I’ve ever felt
It makes perfect sense. Baseball players train their forearms, they have strong UCLs from the stress of throwing, and they train their shoulders and lats. A well trained baseball player would basically just need to add a little specific brachialis and biceps training to get their body prepared.

thats whats impressive with john, he built that crazy armwrestling strength with table time with barely any weight machines. you look at guys like devon, michael etc and they have machines in their house just training all the time but johns just so natural at it he didnt need it. im sure itll help him more if he incorporates it into his routine now but just impressive he got to such a high level without all that.
He apparently also benched 405lb+ without too much bench training. Guy is a freak
he is a mechanic too and turning wrench will give u incredible strength. Lol. Well it turns out John being a airline mechanic isn't very physically demanding.

It's funny how ONE incident that seems like NOTHING can impact you forever, like John's shoulder story. I was trying to touch my fingers together behind my back at 12 and just~ couldn't touch my fingers and my dad goes "I'll help you!" and pushes my elbow down so I can touch fingers. Been fucked up ever since and I'm 29 now lol

Yeah, John seemed nervous at first but loosened up after a few minutes. Larry is super nice to his guests, so that helps a lot
I would like to see Brzenk have a practice with Khaled after his match. Would be interesting to see.

John Brzenk is the typical sports movie hero...A professor like demeanor with spectacles beating giants 100kg heavier than him...No wonder a movie called "pulling John" was made on him...Also recognized by Guinness Record Book as the "greatest arm wrestler ever"... Being at elite level overs 40yrs career is unheard of... Also what is more remarkable is that John was never a full time arm wrestler, till today he still works everyday. He also has a reputation of pulling in the strongest lane of power of his opponent...Some consider him even among the greatest athlete that ever lived any sports...What's even more incredible is that he never lifted weight and never went to GYM....He is like a mystical creature...

I use to read John Brzenk's online forum that was about 10 years ago where he would answer fans questions regarding the sport. People would ask him the most technical questions only to realise he never did any special training for armwrestling lol.

Look at it this way. When Berzenk was armwrestling Dennis. John's hands was dwarf by Dennis. Levan's are even bigger than that. So, i'd say khaled will be a little longer and thicker since his hands are smaller than Levan's.

John Brzenk went over twenty plus years between loses in the 198 lb. weight class before losing to Todd Hutchings and plus beating mass monsters! What more can you say why he is the greatest!

He mentions tendons. The first and last name in tendons is Thomas Topham (deceased 1749). Autopsy showed his tendons were three times normal thickness as they wanted to have light shed on why he was so outrageously powerful. Additionally, his voice was so deep as to not sound human. Weight was 196 pounds. My fav strongman.

have a story to share : so once i was heading into this Cigar place to get couple of Sticks for later . to my surprise there was an Arm wrestling tournament happening right there and then . i was able to sign up …….half an hour later ,it all started . about 60-70 participants of all shapes and sizes …
I had to do 4 matches ..as i always do in Arm wrestling Im very technical,and i know all the tricks . i know if i could beat someone by just a handshake ..
eventually i wrestled my way to the final match ……and boom, i beat the last Man standing. i Won it all . what was exciting is i had my family with me ..my kids couldn’t believe it . heck i couldn’t believe it myself ….it definitely was a non forgettable day in march/2015.
loved this sport since i was 9 years old ….still do , and i still like to just tease a friend or family member into a quick table bout lol.

It was just at the top of his head. I know he has talked about how strong Pushkar was in his prime.
